Thank you for those encouraging words. I'm 19 days post op and still having pain and overwhelming weakness. I can only walk for 4 minutes and then I fall asleep with exhaustion! THIS makes me very discouraged because I feel that I should be able to do more. Sent from my SM-J700T using BariatricPal mobile app

When did you start protein bars?
Christinamo7 replied to camry2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maybe 10 weeks out or so? because I walk A LOT and sometimes need a little boost to calories/protein. I have only found one I like, and it is a treat for when I am extra active, not a daily thing. or when my hormones make me a stark raving lunatic, because the one I like is also chocolate. -
Unexpected surprise expenses
AvaFern replied to KC VSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't buy any of those things, except the food scale which was actually pretty useful because I clearly have no grasp of what is an ounce of food. I use regular Vitamins from the grocery store- probably Nature's Bounty or Sundown brand. I hate Protein drinks, so I have never used them. Don't buy the entire big thing before you know if you like it or not. I am now 19 months post-op and I am WAY cheaper at the grocery store and in terms of things I consume than I ever was before. It's surprising how it isn't terribly expensive to eat healthy when for the most part you eat roughly what a child eats, lol. -
I am 4 weeks and 4 days post surgery and I am also in the group that can eat more than the 1/4 cup of mushy food I should have per meal for certain items. From day one on the full liquids I was allowed yogurt (without any fruit in it) and I could eat the entire 6oz container. I could eat 4oz of cottage cheese or applesauce at a time as soon as progressed to mushy. However, meat definitely has a limit of about the 2 tablespoons they advised for the mushy phase. I have to admit I never puree anything, so it is chopped finely and has broth, gravy or salsa on it to help it go down and I chew each bite for a long time. Perhaps if I did puree it would go down easier. I had some issues in the first week or two with consuming all the Water on top of the two Protein shakes, but that is over. No issues with liquids at all. I have also been worried that my sleeve will not provide the restriction I need. Over the last 10 days I have experienced hunger most days. This is more of a problem when I am at work. I don't get as much sleep as I did before returning to work and I am still trying to figure out how to time my meals, shakes and water to avoid hunger.

@TheJuice202 that sounds smart. I'm only 10 weeks out so I have a long ways to go. I'm sure a lot of people need a number to keep pushing. The further along I go I feel like I may need to do the same thing to keep motivated! I've just always eaten pretty healthy.. so I know the weight will come off.

Any tips for shoulder pain???
sandiburn replied to momof5inWI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 1 week ago tomorrow. My shoulder only hurts when I lay down. I have been up and trying to stay active durring the day. I have spring cleaned a few rooms and will finish up the rest of the house tomorrow. When I get tired I rest for 10 min or so then back at it. Since I have started this, the sholder pain has gotten a lot better. Good luck with your journey. P.S. Heat does help. -
When Were You Ready?
taketimetofind replied to not me anymore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm younger. For me though, I decided to look into lapband for my future. Due to my weight (287) I am dealing with problems most kids my age should not have to deal with. I have PCOS. The doctor told me that if I don't lose weight, I could injure my chances in having kids. That's what did it for me. I am now 10% down (pre op) and am having the surgery in late August. I have never been happier. I want my life back. -

Hospital for 5 days.. 10 days of go slow and hang out with my mum for a bit and fly home on the 2nd jan. My friend who I went to school with wrote a ebook called about nutrition aval at: www.nutritionforweightlosssurgery.com I still have not told her im having surgery.. Im 100kg and don't look huge but still need to get this under control. Im shit scared about living on milkshakes for 2 weeks!

Gall bladder postop vs lapband post
Texasbandit replied to rn2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it depends on age and health too. My gall bladder was removed at 19. 15 years ago and to me the lapband was worse due to the gas and internal soreness. My gallbladder and gall stones were out and I was up and hanging out 3 days later. Lapband took me 5 days to feel normal. -
I drink a lot but I've had migraines since I was 10
-
Has anyone hit a plateau and not know what to do? I have lost 35 pounds since my banding in April. But now it seems like nothing I do gets the weight moving again. I am filled to 5.9 in a band that will hold 10. I have 65 more pounds to loose!!! Got any suggestions???

21 College Student Just Had Surgery, The Whole Shebang!

Hey I'm about 10 weeks out and I'm down 46 pounds!!! -
I am 5'6" and no that is not a bad goal at all however i would make smaller goals in intervals. The weight loss takes time it is not overnight even though the numbers do fall off in the beginning the weight loss does have stops and starts. The main thing is to think about how much healthier you are becomming and the progress you have made so far not what you havent lost yet. I lost around 60 lbs the first 6 mths and was down 100 lbs by my year appt. the last 20 plus came off over the next year . To tell you the truth i actually stoped weighing my self all the time for it was no longer a thought i just live now and enjoy each day. I know alot of people who have had the surgery gain some weight back and thats because they never really excepted the life change and wanted to still eat they way they use to so they would forse the food it causing vomitting which can cause you stomach to stretch. As for the extra skin you i have it and alot of in around my stomach and legs but it doesnt really bother me i am healthier and have more energy to chase and keep up with my children i feel normal. Just remember there is more then just the prize of weight loss there is the enjoyment you will feel when you relize you are no longer thinking about weight but what outfit you want to ware cause now u will be able to go to the store grab size 8/10 and go home without trying it on . All time time saved will be spend enjoy walks and vacation ect...

how often do YOU get your blood work done?
Tricia_H replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
My PCM checks me about every 3 to 4 months .... I call the lab techs "vamps" -- they laugh, and take over 10 vials from me. It's just best to get checked when your doc says to because they are trying to care for you. -
10/17/2017 was surgery date. In 2003 had original Rouen-y. Kept it off year last incisional hernia due to open procedure. About 2 years ago someone who meant the world to me died out of the. I went into deep depression. Stopped exercising (I did 5 miles a day 6 days a week). I had control of protein and diet. So I gained all weight loss plus an additional 30 pounds. Three months ago started having extreme nausea and vomiting. GI doctor found a large hiatal hernia. Called my old surgeon since in different state and was advised to have hernia repaired by a bariatric surgeon. Found wonderful doctor who said he’d fix the hernia but that my pouch had spread to almost 3 times it should be. So with a great deal of hesitation I had both procedures on same day. I’m was sent home on day 2. Am in pain and exhausted constantly I can’t seem to keep broth down but fine with shakes and water. I was unable to crush my meds because they were so vile I threw them up every time I tried. So I slowly swallow a pill st a time. I guess the gist of this since it’s been 12 years are these symptom and experiences common after bypass. Must note my doctor told me this surgery was one of his most difficult ever because he had to cut out massive amounts of scar tissue and cut up some of the mesh that was placed during incional hernia repair

I've never been under a size 16, I've dealt with my weight basically all my entire life, I've always been the biggest one in my family. I would try all types of diets, including seeing a physician, I would lose 10 to 20 pounds and gain that, that I took off plus 20 more. Lets cut to two years earlier, I was temping at the university of Miami as a medical assistant back in June 2010, then I was contacted by a physician that I knew and respected and trusted, we use to work together. This doctor was getting ready to open her own practice and ask me would I work for her. Cut forward I was going to be her office manager. That did not happen I worked for her for six months and then terminated. I was hurt I started eating then I couldn't find work. I search for a year no work. Now 2012 signed up with the agency worked for 3 months, April 29, receive a call get To the hospital Shon clasped ( my daughter) got to the hospital she is on life support, she coded 4 x's i was right there i never left her side she died the next day my world up side down now, April 30, a day before her birthday. I craved sugar I ate anything sweet, I had just lost my oldest and only daughter. Food became a way of comfort. I went into depression state I didn't want to talk to anyone, I was MAD. Mad at everyone and mostly mad at God. I felt like he didn't care about me anymore he took my child, my baby. I gained a long of weight and didn't care, my husband started to drink more, when I say in was tension in the house it was tension. I'm better now I ask God to forgive me for being angry with him. Know I've got work do. I'm 285 ponds for the last two years its been one thing after another. It has been hell. Now it's time to work on me. Sorry I was so long wined.

How hard is it to get insurance to aprove the surgery
Charm82 replied to Monica Castro's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on your insurance and how thorough and fast your surgeons office is, I asked my surgeon's office how long it normally takes it to hear back from my insurance and they said 5 to 10 business days. Mine was just approved yesterday (7/15) and got the call from the hospital to schedule my surgery yesterday as well, it took 10 business days. -
my doctor said that i could essentially eat anything i wanted as long as i didn't eat any carbs. this did include all forms of bread and pasta, and most sweets. for about 10 days, all i ate was meat and eggs.

I went to a support group and the nutritionist told us that now that we weigh less, we need to increase our exercise. For example, we used to be able to burn 100 calories in 10 min of walking or elliptical. Well now, its only 75 calories because we weigh less. Stay the coarse on healthy eating, but up your intensity on your exercise. Also, this "stall" is common. Although we are not dropping rapid weight, over the coarse of a month, we drop the same. The scale might not move for 2-3 weeks, but then all of a sudden you lose 3-5 lbs. I had my surgery May 28, 2013. First 5 months, 10 lbs a month easy. Now its more like 5-8 lbs. Remember, you still want to lose it slowly. That is the overall most healthy!
