Congrats! Most certainly take the time to heal up first! Then you can go full Super Hero! I had my band removed and was revised to Bypass in March, best WLS choice I've made!
-
Hi Everybody! New to the game. Had my revision surgery(Hence, "band to bypass" title)Monday August 6th, 2018. Doing well overall. Thought I was Super woman for a few days and over did it on the walking and consuming of liquids. Foolishly thought more was good(I mean aren't we suppose to get moving and increase dietary intake?). Paid for my aggressive start with VERY uncomfortable bloating and soreness.:( Had to regroup and scale back my regime and diet. Oh well, you live, you learn...hopefully.;) So i'm looking forward to a much healthier lifestyle with one of my first short term goals being able to decrease(or eliminate altogether) my need for insulin. Off to a great start already, no short term units needed and no high readings since leaving the hospital Wednesday! Yay me! So I wish all of us much success in our personal journeys and I hope to make some kindred friends along the way! Til we chat again, Take care of u!

Hello!!! Here is my story. My heaviest weight was 375, I got the lapband in 2011. I lost a little over 100 pounds, Became Pregnant and gained 60 pounds. After a few years the lapband stopped working. I yo yo my weight and started having bad acid reflux to the point that I couldn’t sleep laying or sitting up. Last year in June 2017 I had my lapband removed, and started the program to get a revision. Didn’t get it then, on August 28th, 2018 I will be having my VSG surgery . Tomorrow August 13 I start my liquid diet
-
Currently on week 3 of a revision from Lap Band to the Sleeve.
-
It gets better. I'm also a band to sleeve patient, although I had my band out years before I got sleeved. Be prepared, you will likely lose slower than some of the freshly sleeved. I'm averaging 1-2lbs per week.
-
The weight loss is definitely slower. I was averaging a pound a day the first week and a half after the sleeve surgery. Now it is about half a pound a day. I’m just taking it one day at a time though 😊

Acid reflux question? Based on recent poll.
elmatador replied to The Preacher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Didn’t see the poll, but I’ll just add that my reflux is better after VSG - I guess for me weight loss made more of a positive difference than the revised anatomy did a negative one. -
I have almost two masters degrees and was successfully teaching . I had lost 120lbs with my band prior . I’m sitting at the hospital post my revision right now . No one said they were proud of me . No one needs to be proud of me . I also need to express I did this for my health. This was not about fatness or beauty but purely health. I’m ok with losing that poor health identity

I'm glad you posted this because I'm really interested in hearing about other people's experiences too. Sent from my SM-G950F using BariatricPal mobile app -
Sleeve to Bypass revision weight loss success?
ellie123 replied to Tmusselman's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
About to do a Sleeve to RNY on Aug 22nd as well. This is for weight regain due to a bad Sleeve surgery 3 years ago. Tests revealed that the Sleeve was made too big and mishapen like an hour glass, which did not set me up for success at all. So I'm being revised to RNY which will also take care of the GERD and they will fix the stricture I have and Haital hernia. Nervous and very cautious about getting excited...I really would like to know the true differences between the two procedures. Will this never ending hunger ever go away? Is it true you loose weight so much slower etc. Would love to hear more about how you all are doing... -
Acid reflux question? Based on recent poll.
The Preacher replied to The Preacher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sure that I can handle the lifestyle change that it takes to succeed after this surgery, but after much research and reading numerous accounts of people developing severe acid reflux after having the gastric sleeve surgery, this really has me beyond concerned. It seems that the only solution to get rid of the acid reflux, is to have a revision to gastric bypass surgery, I'm not sure that I can come to terms with that, just not sure that I could handle that. -
I realize that most people will probably gloss over this topic...because for most 1 surgery works and is enough and if you fall into this category, please know how fortunate you are. This is not my story I am 5'8. In 2007 I was 273lb's and miserable! I got a Band. Following 13 fills and unfills the best I lost was 60lb's, I never achieved restriction, and unfilled to have 2 kids. All weight returned. In an unrelated accident my port flipped, and in 2015 at 265lb's I was revised to a Gastric Sleeve (Also had my gallbladder taken out, a Haital hernia repaired and the band removed). I lost 60lb's in the first 4 months and then...stopped loosing. At 205lb's I would have been happy with my results, but then, I felt no restriction and started to regain! Fast forward almost 3 years to today...I have developed GERD pretty bad and I've regained most of what I lost back! My stomach feels hungry every hour or two, I could always eat WAY more than my sleeved friends, and once I got myself full, it would not take long for the deep primal hunger to return. I have no relief from hunger. Especially at night, I'm ravenous! I became a grazer! I felt that the Ghrelin was back with an Army to fight me! A 80% international traveling job plus unlimited access to food in the best restaurants around the globe did not help. I have felt dejected, humiliated, like a failure, angry, frustrated and the list goes on for miles, if you are still reading, you probably know how I feel. And indeed, It's not just about how I look...it's about how I feel. Horrible!! My weight is pressing, intrusive and pervasive. There is no time that I am not aware of it. I have sleep Apnea, I can't keep up with my 6 and 7 year old's and the simple things in life are hard again. Completely demoralizing... After almost 3 years, I finally said "Enough" and went back to a new Surgeon. An Endoscopy revealed it has not all been my fault. My Sleeve was cut too big to begin with! My new surgeon reveled he knows the work of the previous surgeon who apparently was not very skilled at the time and making sleeves too big to be successful. A Bougie 42 was was too big to begin with but in my case, even that was very loosely cut. To top it off, my Sleeve was mis-shapen to begin with as well, setting me up for failure and I have a Stricture in the middle, causing me to have an Hourglass shape. Top fills up, stretches, bottom is hungry, then food goes to the bottom and is still there, top is hungry, in short...a hot mess! Miraculously given the Haital Hernia, GERD, Stricture and botched initial surgery, my insurance (that does not cover Bariatrics) has approved a revision to Bypass on Aug 22nd. I've been combing the internet for Sleeve to RNY revision but such information is not as readily available as 1st timers. I am so nervous...so frightened to go through with this. Scared of Anesthesia, scared how I would do, scared of the 3 week post op liquid only phase. Scared that I will fail again, that this will not work. Some Surgeons (like the Pound of Cure guy say you can only expect to loose 10 - 25lbs on a Sleeve to RNY revision, woa?? ) But I have to try...I want to live a full and vibrant life and not just exist like an Amoeba! This is truly Project last chance. My husband is supportive, but my friends, judgmental and not supportive. and if ever I needed some advice, encouragement, support etc...it's now... Nervous but cautiously hopeful, and very much in need of your support... Ellie

AUGUST 6 GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
ellie123 replied to E G's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wondering how you ladies are doing with your revision? Scheduled for a Revision Sleeve to RNY on Aug 22nd. Super nervous. I regained the weight I lost form my sleeve. Endoscopy revealed that my sleeve was cut too big and in the wrong shape (hour glass), so I have a Stricture, Haital Hernia, GERD etc. I'm glad I have answers now. That plus regain makes me a prime candidate for revision to RNY. I have so many questions. I've had the Band, Sleeve and now going in again...gosh, even though I know my surgery was not done right, it's so hard not to feel like a failure and worry that the RNY will not work for me. Not much out there on such revisions. And some doctors were saying at most you will loose 10 - 25lbs revising from Sleeve to Bypass. WOA? Anyhow, could really really REALLY use a buddy in the same boat right about now... -

Orchids&Dragons replied to The Preacher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also took the poll. I don't really know if I had GERD before my sleeve. If so, it wasn't bad enough to need medication. I'm now on omeprazole 40mg 2x/day, too, plus TUMS as needed. Problem is, they used to think omeprazole was fine for long-term use. Now it is recommended for no more than 6 months. If mine hasn't improved by the 6-month mark (Sept), my surgeon will probably do a revision to bypass. -
Menopause
Sanders001 replied to Naughty Glitter Goddess's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a mommy make-over (152 lbs 10 years after lap-band) and 6 months later started gaining weight really fast (gained 60 lbs within 4 months which is why I’m back on the Bariactric site), got tested and I was IN menopause at 48. I read that surgery can push you in to it. I having a revision done on Tuesday and I’m scared to death it won’t work as well thanks to the hormone/surgery thing. -
Hi Everyone! I was sleeved in March of 2016. I had sleeve to bypass revision on 7/30/18 due to reflux and nausea. I am post-op 12 days. I lost 14 pounds from 1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op clear liquid diet. I have been on full liquids since this past Sunday. I have two protein shakes per day and cottage cheese. I am around 60-70 grams of protein per day and about 450-550 calories. I am struggling a little bit with getting my fluids in... I'm around 50 ounces per day of water. The day I started full liquids (actually taking in any calories) I stopped losing any weight. I have actually gained 1.8 pounds since Sunday (6 days ago). I am a little frustrated, but am hoping it is just a stall or something. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

My surgery date is October 2018, revision to gastric bypass, I’m so excited I’ve waited over a year! I start my 6 week Ensure High Protein diet next week! My current wt is 322 lbs, not sure how much I’ll lose in this pre op diet, but I’m looking forward to my future! -
Newbie Scared and Hoping for August surgery friends
Hop_Scotch replied to Marisol Unda's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
My doctor will not do ESG on anyone who hasd previously had a gastric balloon as there is a high failure rate there, but do they know why the stitching had come apart? Did your surgeon do a bad ESG eg too loose stitching? Do you know how many ESGs they have done and what that surgeon's failure / revision rate is? I am a member of three facebook ESG groups and while there are people on there who haven't had success or much success there are so many more who have lost plenty of weight many longterm and maintaining. There are many reasons for failure just as VSG or RNY fail and until the reason is determined we can't say ESG (or even VSG and RNY) is a waste of money. -
Tricare and Revision to Sleeve
jeaniesleeve posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
TRICARE AND REVISION OR BYPASS SURGERY I'm quite certain this topic in reference to Tricare has been discussed a thousand times but I just can't find the answers I need. When I lived on post in Washington State on Ft. Lewis, I was able to get the Sleeve done. My surgeon assured me if this surgery did not work that in a couple or so years I could get the Gastric Bypass or I may need a revision some day. TRICARE or the surgeons here in Columbus, GA disagree and will not do either because my BMI is NOT at 40 plus. I assume I would have to gain more weight to do so. I'm at a 33 BMI now and no doctors can figure out why I'm gaining any weight at all. I eat healthy and I exercise every single day and I have since the surgery. I just stopped losing one day and it's been a steady incline since the middle of 2014 or later even. There's no explanation and breaking my elbows to keep me from putting a fork in my mouth might hurt and I would starve to death from malnutrition because I eat like a bird now. I need some help here because I have nothing. The surgeons are clueless and say no and my doc is clueless in saying the surgeons say no I'm NOT FAT ENOUGH. I'm fat and I hate myself. HELP!! Suggestions!!!! -
August 2018 sleeve surgery!!

I am having a revision done 8/13. The liquid diet hasn’t been too bad (mind over matter, right?). I’ve lost 4 pounds in 4 days so that alone has kept me motivated. -

4 years post op and can’t lose a pound
GreenTealael replied to BriWLS's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Unfortunately not all cals are created equal and sustained weight loss is trickier than cals in cals out. What are you eating? Carbs as in bread and pasta or carb counts (macros) ? You may need to reconnect with your team for a revised plan and do a bit of research to get over this hurdle. Google (scholar) and YouTube (Doctors,NUT,Trainers) can be great resources Research glycogenolysis, gluconeogenesis, lipolysis, and ketogenesis. -
For those having a bypass revision weighing in at 155?
Stephanie Rodriguez68 replied to marfar7's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I also had a band once upon a time and wanted to revise to the sleeve, but because of my reflux, my surgeon wouldn't do anything but the bypass. He told me the sleeve would make my reflux worse and so I am glad I went with the bypass, but I am 4 years out and have yet, to reach my goal weight. Now, granted, I don't do everything 100% all the time. But I feel healthier than I did before in most respects. The malabsorption is probably what has changed my body the most because I have a hard time taking all the supplements and feel I don't have the muscle and bone mass that I once had. I would like to lose about 20 more pounds, but if not, I am OK with where I am. This may just be my HEALTHY weight since I have been stuck here for awhile now. I hope you reach your goals with the revision and also have fun on your cruise. I love cruising and never have trouble finding good foods to eat.
