  1. Had surgery on August 26, and doing relatively well. We are at the pour off the spoon stage and this seems to satisfy us more than clear liquids :) I am looking forward to something more substantial because our calorie intake is really low. thanks for stopping by! have a wonderful day!

  3. hi --

do you have to wait because of insurance requirements? How many pre-op support meetings are they requiring you to do? Where are you going for them?

It's still really novel but I like it so far. Most people seem to get back on their feet faster than I did but I am also older and had a stricter liquid phase. Today was my first day adding in food (day 15) and it is also a stricter diet than what I see on the message board. I started taking 2 Optifast like drinks a day and just 2 tablespoons of egg or soft cheese 3 times a day at mealtimes. I'm supose to build to 6-8 tablespoons a meal and expand on the foods beginning with proteins and then adding in veggies. I know this sounds terrible but actually I don't mind it. I think I'm OK with it for 3 reasons. First, because I did do Optifast for 12 weeks a long time ago---this doesn't seem as hard compared to that. 2nd--the band is REALLY helping with it. So far I don't have any cravings. I did feel hunger on the 2 weeks of clear liquids (250 calories a day!) but because of my Optifast memories --I was able to hold on. The 3rd thing that makes this easier for me (so far!) is that I found out yesterday that I lost 11 lbs in those 2 weeks of clear liquid. My MD told me yesterday that I can keep this as low carb and as low calorie as I want so I have elected to be REALLY strict. I'm hoping to lose at least another 45 lbs by Sept. That will be tough.

  4. I spent 20 minutes Walking. 78 calories burned.

  6. you have done really well. I have a couple questions if you don't mind. I am almost 2 months out. Doing well myself . How many calories did you eat a day? How often do you excersie and do you stick with the 65 grams or protine a day?

  7. Hi Georgina,

I forgot to ask.. how did the pre-op diet go? I am really worried about it because I hate milk! Did you do the low calorie/low fat diet or the total milk diet?

I weigh approx 16 stone & some people have told me that the milk diet is only for pre-op when yor BMI is over 50 (mine is 38)... its all so confusing at times!

I don't know anyone who has had Martin as the surgeon - but there is someone on here who said he was wonderful... he works mainly for NHS doing this operation on people with BMI over 70... so I guess we will be a easy op for him!

  8. Thanks Yettia!!

No great secret - lots of exercise, sticking to around 1000-1200 calories a day (about 90 % of the time - if I am going out to eat, I try to make good choices, but I still eat what I want), and journalling everything I eat, so I am always conscious of what my choices are. I am not overly restricted (works for me) - the band helps me not be hungry between meals (although I still battle head hunger). I eat a balanced diet that includes whole, natural foods wherever possible and I do eat plenty of carbs!!!! I also still consider pizza and chocolate food groups - I just don't have them that often.

    Good Luck with your banding!!!!!!

  9. good morning dear,

I am doing well and hope you are too. I have lost another 4 pounds so that makes me 19 pounds down. I have a bleeding disorder that i have had for 9 years. and with all the fiber and protein it made me bleed excessively. I am going to do the 1600 calorie since that is working for me right now. I would love to keep in touch with you as well you know we can't have too many sister friends. lol Take care and hope to hear from you again soon.

  10. yea..I was banded on the 6th of August..I'm excited about this being my seventh day! but, i had a question...how much weight did you loose if you don't mind me askin...I ask this b/c I made a few minor mistakes during this full and clear liquid stage b/c I experienced little to no restriction while doing this..I ate some small but bad thiings...as long as I walk a lot and I aim for 800 to 900 calories a day..do you think loosing the weight before my first adjustment drastically is possible...?

Thank you guys for all the suggestions. I believe I'm gonna go with the Syntrax Nectar. Per one scoop it has 24 grams of protein and I've tried this one before but it was a while ago

From what I've read, a lot of people like the taste of the Syntrax Nectars.

  16. Why are Sunday's so much more difficutl when it comes to eating within my calories? UGH

  17. Not a good day today..I just realized I am now afraid of food..When I look at it all I see is calories, regaining the 70 pounds I've lost and never making it to my goal weight

    1. Carlotta1

      Carlotta1

One thing I am doing to resolve fears, etc about gaining weight after I get to my goal..I am seeing a psychologist who specializes in eating. I was a binge eater before surgery..that was the past that I don't want to relive it. Also, use myfitnesspal to record what u eat..it is a valuable tool for me now and easy to use., knowing what u eat, how much can make u see in black and white that u r doing the right thing with your eating. That may take some of the fear away from u.

  18. The ups and downs of that damn scale!!! If I eat too many carbs, yet have the right amount of calories, the scale will either not move or move in the direction that I don't want it too. If I eat low carbs and eat less calories with exercise, the scale does the same or I lose weight. WHAT IS THE RIGHT COMBINATION?!?!?!!!???

could it be water weight? Maybe watch your sodium intake.

    3. BladeFox

      BladeFox

Relief57, that may be it too. I have high blood pressure, the kind that likes to retain water and I have been eating a lot of beef sticks. All processed meats has tons of sodium in it so I am gonna try to go 'clean' and see what happens. I love a beef stick when I'm running to meetings and don't have time to eat. Geez, this is hard.

      HalloweenBaby24

@Djmohr I take in about 90-100gms of protein a day.

  22. Burned 1600 calories today walking and intake was only 440. So weak and tired right now.

  23. Plateaus Suck! Odd observation... anyone else? I've noticed that when I'm under-eating or eating to much "sameness" day after day (with the intention to blast through that awful plateau) I don't go down on the scale. What I noticed is that I have to have enough calories to lose lbs.. In other words, after a big eating day, instead of the expected #-rise, it goes down by a pound or three. Anyone else experiencing this odd phenomenon?

    1. terrydumont46

      terrydumont46

I agree with your observation. if I am eating good food all day sometimes I lose more than when I am eating the same old stuff or staying under a certain calorie count.

  24. if you eat more calories than you burn off, you will gain weight...regardless of WLS or not...

hard to believe the amount i ate.....not to mention the (type)of food..it still blows me away that i can (only) a certain amount...pretty kewl though.so since i cant eat much, what i do eat, i make it count/worth it.

    2. Jim1967

      Jim1967

Exactly. I choose the good stuff over the bad cause I can only eat a little as it is.

  25. The vacation was great and lovely and I stayed very active while still getting to sample foods I hadn't yet tried since surgery.  After getting back, I decided to stay off of social media for a little while, which also included these forums.  I had a lot of work in the office to catch up on and needed to focus on that.  Of course, the past week or so I have been struggling a lot mentally and emotionally.  I've desperately wanted comfort food and have done well not giving into that temptation.  This week doesn't feel like it'll go much better, but October always seems to be the worst month for me.

Had an anxiety dream last night involving a substantial weight gain in the past week.  Absolutely no basis in reality since I've stayed on plan.  I think it stems from Saturday when I ate some extra calories due to a 2 hour hike earlier in the day that burned 900 calories.  The extra calories brought my total intake up for 1025, as opposed to 700-800.  And my extra calories were from curry egg salad, so it was a protein packed choice.  And yet, my brain some how decided that would lead me to gain 10 pounds in one week and threw that are me while I slept.  Brains can be jerks.

Glad to hear you are doing ok. I noticed you missing from here and was a bit concerned as it sounded like you were dealing with some stuff.

Great work with staying on plan on vacation! Always a tougher than the routine at home.

      Welcome back!
