questions for my plant based friends

I use organic Protein powder and it is great. It is called Fit365 www.fit365.com (Kyle Brown) (858)794-7777. He developed this Protein Powder just for picky people like me. (Smile) Grass-Fed Whey Protein (21g) Coconut Oil High Fiber Live Probiotics Gluten Free Non-GMO Soy Free Low Glycemic I was very concerned about using whey powder, especially since I try to eat organic when ever I can. However, many whey Proteins never claim to be organic and taste great at the same time. This one is and you can taste the difference. It is clean and taste great like I said before. I bought the vanilla bean and it blends with about anything. It is very filling too.

    Clothes after surgery

I believe there's a forum here that is specifically for clothing swaps. I'm on my mobile so I can't cut and paste but do a search for it. I know people are on there regularly. I just cleaned out my closet and had clothes with tags still on them that just didn't fit anymore. Donated them and went the old navy route as well. I was never much of s skirt girl, but those are becoming my go to bc they stretch with me.

Scared I will be denied by insurance!

Your post is me! I'm 35 bmi and used to be a marathon runner before kids and I also just want to be able to run and feel like myself again. I've tried everything to lose the weight too but it always creeps back on. Diet after diet after diet. This was really my last resort but I feel it's the only way I'll have success. I was denied by insurance last Wednesday with sleep apnea because its moderate and they wanted severe but my surgeon was able to appeal with the fact that my blood pressure has also been elevated recently and on Friday I was approved! Whew, yeah I think I was right on the borderline and was sweating it out waiting to see if the denial would be reversed. Wishing you success bc I can SO relate.

  6. @@Janrn91 Congratulations on your surgery tomorrow!!! How exciting! A day away from starting your new life! I know how nervous and anxious you are feeling too! I will pray for you that it will go as smoothly as possible! I am like you, I feel like a failure for not being able to get my weight under control, I feel that this is my core problem for me that bc I am overweight and failing at this that everything else is failing. A mess really. I have struggled with my weight all my life, except for a couple years when I was about 17 18, but I also was addicted to diet pills, as soon as I got off those I started gaining weight and just kept gaining and gaining. I've tried everything, yea, I'll lose a little here and there, then I'll hit a plateau then quit and gain double what I lost. I also love food. Its a very emotional thing for me too. I am very much an emotional eater. I am 5' ² weighing 320 pounds and I'm 27. I've had so many health problems, I'm taking so many medications, I just can't take it anymore. I am ready for a new life. To actually start living!! Ive just been going through the days, not really there. God put me here for a purpose and I'm ready to start fulfilling it. He has blessed us with this opportunity, we have to use it for the good and be successful! We will not fail! I wish you the best on your surgery tomorrow!! Please keep us updated!
  7. @@puttingme1st thank you for your tips as well!! I have practiced chewing a little bit and not drinking with meals, but oh man it is difficult. I mean I swallow bites and not even realize I'm doing it and I'm so used to having a drink with my meals, it's going to be very hard. But I have the opportunity to have time to practice and I need to do it. I also agree I need to start walking more too, to get used to it. That's what I am going to have to do right after is walk walk walk! Im SL glad your surgery went smoothly! I pray mine does too! I have my preop class on the 8th, I'm just hoping everything goes well with that, then I will start my 2 week liquid diet bc my bmi is also 58!
  8. @@SuzeMuze Thank you SO much for sharing this information with me! I agree with taking the day off before surgery to make sure the last minute things are in order. I would rather be over prepared then under when it comes to something like this. I've never had any type of surgery before, let alone one that will change my life forever, so I'm very nervous and anxious. But also very excited of what's to come. I heard about when they come to give you food in the hospital they just give you standard, so it is up to you to remember what your portion should be. And definitely NO straws. I've been trying to practice that. Still hard bc sometimes I do it and don't even know I have a straw. Same with drinking and eating. That's going to be really hard too. I've done that all my life, so changing that is going to be difficult. Its good hear about protein. I've seen a lot of people on here saying how hard it is for them to get in all of their liquids. Which made me pretty nervous about it too. I will do what I can at first, strive for the goal, bit know if might take some time. I will definitely stay away from the scale too....for a while. ????

9 days post op and STARVING, why?

YES!!! I went through the same thing. Like to the point of insanity. I had a hard time with protein drinks bc I wasn't allowed milk by my surgeon- water was gross with it-.. and I was on the acid reducer as well. It does pass, I promise. As soon as you get to the step to eat eggs, canned chicken etc..you will be full quickly. Best of luck & hang in there
  10. Update! I had to stay an extra night at the hospital bc of my white blood cell count. I took another set of labs around 5:30 so I should going home soon. Pain was very very very minimal. Only thing I can really say that bothered me was the getting up out the bed and laying back down. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers!!!

    Starbucks...

Yes and don't take no or some othe bs for an answer. I have gotten - it's an allergen. What allergen? Well people who can't have whey. So a dairy allergen ? They won't be having latte It clogs our steamers. No they don't you run the steamer right after. Most good baristas do. When I see them do it and messing it up I stop them immediately and refuse it.

Scared I will be denied by insurance!

Unfortunately, I was denied bc my bmi fell below 35 one year during my 5 year weight history ... It really depends on your insurance and the requirements

    Scared ????

I did notice I got my surgery date pretty quickly. Iam not sure why, but I thank the doctor who was in care for me when I went to hospital. He knew I was in pain and fed up with being ignored because of not having insurance. I guess he felt sorry for me and pulled some strings. I went to the emergency room 10/03/14 I was released the same day with an appointment on 10/08/14 to evaluate and have my pre op visit 11/19/14 and surgery date 12/01/14 . Considering I live in Chicago and this hospital is ALWAYS saturated I do believe my Doc was doing me some favors

Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

Hi All! It should be my husband because although he isn't obese, he could be more educated about HIS food issues....He is constantly yo-yoing with the same 15-25 pounds.....that said, whatever it takes for ME to get better is my focus. I was watching something yesterday that was all about some studies that have been done on "diets" etc..., and how most (I want to say 80 percent or so but not certain that is the actual value reported) people lose regardless of which plan they followed ie: low carb, low fat, paleo, vegan or whatever... but a huge number gained back plus some extra.... ok, well DUH! no kidding! any of us could have probably written that report! The battle has never been taking it off, but keeping it off, well that's another story. I really hope my insurance company will approve me. Another question for all of you who may know... I have BCBS... does anyone have experience with them and getting approved for WLS... I have to say I do not want lap band and I am worried that's the only one they will approve bc of my BMI being under 40... sorry, rambling here. Hope everyone has a great day

    November Banders

The first night I stayed at the hospital and I think I was given the same meds you talked about. I got a hydro codeine liquid which I never used. When I got home I used liquid Tylenol. I didn't have a hernia repair which I understand may make recovery more painful. I was afraid to use the script bc I was so constipated just from the anesthesia so I tried to just use Tylenol.

    Three Years Post-op Today

I'm following your posts from a long time now and your wisdom never fails, I love to read your posts and you are truly a role model. You really make it clear: the choice is in our hands and everything else is just BS, whining and crying. I do not have any idea about your 4th year goal but I know one thing for sure: whatever you wan't to achive, you will I wish you the best, and please keep posting!

    What’s it to you?

I had 2 reasons I wanted WLS. Number #1 was to prevent health issues. I was borderline high blood pressure, sleep apnea and starting to experience joint pain. I have family members who are dealing with health issues which most definitely were caused by weight. It just seemed like a sad way to live and I got tired of it. I wanted to be able to be the best me I could be. Number #2 was to feel normal. Being fat is terrible and it is not attractive. It breaks my heart to see so many fat children. I notice this more and more since I have been on this health journey. There was so much in life that I was missing because of my size. People can sugar-coat it and say that you should "embrace your size" and " love the big beautiful you" all of that is a bunch of bs. There was no joy in debating whether I can fit in a theater seat or if I could find something to wear at Lane Bryant. People should not starve themselves to be stick thin and obsess over looks but everyone should strive to maintain a healthy weight. I am a major people watcher and one thing I notice is how people seem to be getting larger.

    Update 7 weeks post op

Hi Alfie, I'm a retired Verizon employee in MD with Anthem BC/BS. I was banded 11/19/06 and a few weeks ago my band of 6 years has to be removed due to many problems, one being a dilated esphogas. Before my band I was on so many meds, now have kept off 62 lbs and BMI is 34.5. After speaking to my Anthem case worker Tuesday, I'm really afraid Anthem is going to deny my band to sleeve surgery due to my lower BMI and controlling my diabetes by diet and exercise. I am very concerned.....any thoughts or words of wisdom?

Anyone From Buffalo, Ny Out There?

Hello to all! I am new here and haven't really even started the process although I have been informally looking and researching surgeons in the area etc....any post ops with advice about who to choose etc? Seems like no one at all has WLS in WNY bc so many are hush hush about it all. Glad to see some locals on this forum
  23. I have uhc also. I had to call in to enroll in the bariatric program and if I chose a center of excellence then I get a $1,000 bonus in my MRA account. When I first started I got assigned a nurse she called one two weeks later n and I kept calling her back n nothing so I got unenrolled bc she said she kept reaching out to me n we never talked (lies) then I had to re enroll again n got the same lady n then the 3rd time around I got a new nurse we talked n she was really nice. Too bad it was her last day, lol so my new nurse Kim is nice too. So they talk to you before surgery and then check in on you post op to make sure things are good. I was required to do a six month diet. Could use weight watchers or Jenny Craig weigh ins. Or go to your doctor for 6 months. Even can go back to 5 yrs, your doctor has to fill out the form listing 6 weigh ins and notes about your diet. And you need a psych evaluation. Also notes from the surgeon office stating the procedure you want. I made the mistake on that part. When I 1st met with the np at the hospital we talked about the lap and and that's what I wanted at that time. Then I changed my mind but I didn't know i had to decide before I met with the surgeon. So months later when they submitted my paper they put the lapband cuz I didn't inform them of the change. I didn't meet the surgeon till after the 1st they submitted the papers. So we had to call to cancel that so UHC needs the new notes about the sleeve and a new psych cuz it expired. So did the psych 10/2 and finally meeting with the surgeon yesterday So they gonna submit again this week. So once I get an approval I get a date!

    Pseudotumor

Oh no Shelly! I would be very disappointed if my side effects of pseudotumor didn't go away but count my blessings they have except for the permanent vision loss. I have not heard of this lawsuit. I was on seasonal birth control when it triggered and I go back and forth thinking it was just my weight or a combo of weight and bc.

    November Banders

Hi Keeper, 1 day post-op now and physically I'm okay. I've been taking 1000mg of Tylenol every 4 hours, and that helps. I have soreness in my belly, and along my chest, back and shoulder from the gas pains. I was taking gas-x yesterday but then I read gas-x doesn't help bc the gas is pumped in your abdominal cavity not your stomach. Walking and a heating pad on my shoulder have helped though. I don't have any appetite, I've just just been sipping a lot clear liquids. I got down 1 protein shake yesterday, and 1 today, but that's it. Mentally I am looking forward to feeling better, and looking forward to eating real food again (eventually). Hoping I'll get at least 2 protein shakes in, in the days to come.
