Hey y'all! my name is Holly, and my surgery is also this Friday! its at 1030am in Atlanta, Ga by Dr.Macik! SO very excited but nervous as well, itll be my first time being put to sleep, EVER so that scares me most! zpearle you will be fine, ChefGabbie is right, many surgeons only require a two week no carb diet like mine, with only liquids the day prior. Ive even heard of some banders preop diet consisting of ONLY 2 days of liquid prior to surgery. I pray that we all three have amazingly succesful surgeries.Lets all stay in touch after surgery to keep up with each other's progress, complications, etc! ONE MORE DAY LADIES------->;=]

My back was killing me!!! I think it's because your core has been altered and is not supporting your back right now. The first three weeks my back just ached. But it will get better - I had great days and then some not so good but your healing. The pain does stop so hang in there. It is all worth it!!

Surgery 9/4 & Hard Vein From Iv
cantwaittolose replied to robynluevano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing!!!....I was sleeved on 8/2. At first it was about an inch long, hurt really bad and hard..... I did a warm compress and it helped. Eventually the pain goes away, but I still have a little hard bump 7 weeks later...but it continues to get smaller. My dr. said it was nothing to worry about and it will go away Hope this helps! -
Discouraged. I hate insurance companies!
Heyher replied to sleever427's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to be at a BMI of 40+ for 5+ years. I didn't meet the requirements. I went through the whole internal appeal and made it to an external appeal and ended up paying for the surgery. I have a self funded plan and asked my employer for an exception. Was told no. My coordinator said my plan was one of the least accommodating she ever worked with. I was so stressed I got shingles on my face and ended up delaying my surgery by three weeks. But I read a lot of people on here who had great success with the UHC appeals. My plan sucked butt. -
Good for you. 30 pounds in one month. Let the process work.even stalls are natural yo happen..so don't fret when this happens. Congrats.

How long does the 3rd week stall last? I want to start losing weight...I feel so discouraged ugh. I've lost about 20lbs so far but I really want to start losing again or I feel like I'm suffering for no reason ???? Can someone tell me how to get off the stall quicker?

You are welcome! Best of luck with it all. I am much better today. Managed to clear the bowel discomfort last night and bloating down by half and OK with that! With the shake diet for next few weeks I make sure I put 2Tbsp. of invisible fibre into the Optifast shakes (my surgeon recommended the brand and not sure if you have it in the US?), so this will NOT HAPPEN AGAIN! I am off pain relief now as well so this should also assist. Feeling good today. Down another full Kilo (2.2 pound) and feeling pretty chuffed. Look after yourself. Hopefully an anti inflammatory gel on your joints where sore will assist + stretches (they work =ly as well). I hope your weight loss journey is a + one! Best of luck!

Hi there! Yes!!! Had surgery on 9/12 and woke up crying with shoulder pain. Pain meds don't help. When I breathed deeply it was worse. It took about a week to clear. Walking and a heating pad on the shoulder really helped. It will be just a memory soon.

Found the site yesterday (1/15/07). Now, I know I'm not crazy for puking several times a week. No one told me to go back to liquids/mushies after my fill for at least a day, or to do the same when I PB'd. I was afraid I'd have to get an unfill - looks like I just have to eat smaller bites, chew better, and pay more attention to my body's signals to "STOP or I'll puke!"

Hi, I am just beginning. June 25th is my consulation with the bariatric doctor. Then the week after with my cardiologist. I have had a major heart attack and I am 230 pounds, 5'2. Not sure what the BMI for that is but it has to be a lot. So my question is does anyone out there have any experience with Oxford Insurance? I am really hoping they cover this because I will probably have to stay in the hospital longer than most of you. I am trying to get it done at Mount Sinai in NYC, Dr. Kini- Anybody familiar with him:confused:

Terrible Psych Eval :(
rensterness replied to Stacy_wls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I see your situation is pretty common. I am now five weeks post op from the sleeve and attend support groups every Thursday and it seems the eval is a bigger deal then people would think. Find a therapist on your own, and ask them PRIOR to meeting them there actual opinion on barometric surgery. You will be surprised to see how honest they are and you can get a feel from their response and their tone. That's what I did and it went just fine. Best of luck to you!! Steri-Strips/bandages
wildrose1966 replied to tlm60's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No you are fine, at my 1 week post op visit she told me to rip them off as they get all grungy and could get infection. If you have any left on there, I would get them off. -
Weeks 5 and 6 I lost 2 1/2lbs. But after the stall I lost 5lbs. It's been 2 months and I've lost 38lbs. Trust me, stalls will happen, it's ok. Don't get discouraged. ❤️

It is different for everyone. I stalled for 2 weeks and even gained 2 pounds but I relost it. I am now a little over 5 weeks post op and have lost 20 pounds post op.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery After Lapband?
tropicalgal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had LapBand sugery in 2010 at the age of 51. I had prior health issues such as SIJ arthritis, & back surgery (2008). Before my LapBand surgery, I took myself off my presciption anti-inflammatory as directed. I lost around 30 lbs. in 4 months while going to the gym & walking on the treadmill at least 4 x per week. When my anti-inflammatory med finally left my system, my knees started KILLING me! I went to a Osteo surgeon who tried shots; found a torn miniscus and worn joints, but who didn't want to do sugery. Well, of course my weight loss journey not only stalled, I gained most of the weight back. I could barely go up & down my stairs at home, it was so bad. I got back on my presciption anti-inflammatory and am doing much better. I contacted my Bariatric surgeon and had a consult wih him yesterday. Heres the deal, I want the LapBand out so I can take stronger meds than acetametaphine for my pain. He and I are now talking LapSleeve. Has anyone else out there gone from a LapBand to a Sleeve? If so, are you happy you did? My doc did a flueroscopy and it looks like I have a hernia ; he said my band looks "flat". I'm praying my insurance will cover this re-do. I was self-pay for the band but no way I can pay for a removal & sleeve. Thanks to anyone who can respond to my question of LapBand to Sleeve. -

I love lucy lover replied to Scooby_Who's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to buy a case a week while on sale to stock up, I drink 1 every morning at work, better then then mixing the powder for sure -
I am a huge massage fan. Right after surgery I went daily for a short neck/shoulders/foot massage.... was a great treat and helped me deal with the restless/head hunger feeling I confronted right afterward. I wasn't ready for a lie on my belly full body massage for about 3 weeks. No limitations now.

Restriction Question
Jackie's girl replied to litl1997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So is it the restriction that helps you not feel hungry? I'm confused on that one. I just had surgery 2 weeks ago and I just got my hunger back yesterday. I am transitioning to mashies and I ate today. It was weird I felt full, as though i was full on top of the band, but my stomach was still growling and felt empty in the bottom. Does that make any sense? It did not satisfy my hunger and I was very frustrated, but I could, not eat anymore. -
Oh my gosh I am so nervous. I just got word that my surgery for the sleeve was approved. I got a lap-band on Aug. 2008 and my band is leaking so they are going to have to remove it. I decided to have the sleeve done rather than to be re-banded. I am just soooo nervous. Can anyone tell me how severe the pain is after surgery? I know with the lapband I was up and moving around about 4 hours after surgery. Also when were you able to return back to work? I drive a school bus 8 hours a day and just wondering? I have heard about 2 weeks down time is that about correct for everyone?

HI Mary!! Welcome to VST. I am also a revision patient from band to sleeve. I love my sleeve!! Best things I ever did for myself. For me I did experience some pain and I also had nausea and even a little vomiting. Even with all that though I do NOT REGRET my decision what so ever. I'm so thankful I was given a second chance and here I am today sitting at goal and continuing to improve daily! I took 3 weeks off from work and have a desk job. It was more than enough time, but it was nice that I didn't have to be on liquids while getting back because it can be a little tough remembering to sip sip sip all the time. I'm not sure if 2 weeks would be enough time for you, as I'm not sure all that entails being a bus driver. It does seem a little physically demanding, having to move that large steering wheel for hours and hours. But again, I'm not privvy to that. Good luck to you!!!! You're going to be fine. Nervous is normal, it's totally ok. Like favored mentioned above, we do have a section here specifically for band to sleeve revisions. I didn't have the band to sleeve revision, but I was in the hospital for 3 days (standard per insurance)... When I got home, I didn't use my pain meds at all.. I was off work for 6 weeks, my PCP thought I should just rest and adjust... I think you will be fine.. you should also trying looking at some of the groups on here.. I think there is one for band to sleeve revisions..

I'm 10 weeks po and haven't had a fill yet for fear of slippage. I'm down 36 lbs and have 30 to go. I haven't quite figured out how the band works. From morning to late afternoon I can't hold much food, maybe a cup at the most, or 1/4 of Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then at night it feels like I could eat a full meal. I've never tested how much I could eat, but scares me that I don't have band restriction at night. Does it sound like I need a fill?

Supervised Weight Loss DIet/ Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal and Weight Gain
1Day1Life4Now replied to sunny2day's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Rgrana, I too have BCBS Federal and I'm also on the 3 month supervised diet. I lost 4 pounds the first month and none the second month. My last weigh in is mid January. The nutritionist told me if we can maintain during the holidays without gaining, that is still very good. She still wants me to lose as much as I can between now and mid January to make the surgery easier. At the beginning she did tell me there was no certain amount that Insurance required us to lose and they wouldn't deny us for not losing so I am holding her to it. I am trying very hard to get some of the weight off but I am not stressing over it either. I'm in Mississippi, where are you? Do you have a tentative date yet? My tentative date is February 11th. I hope it will happen then and not later as I am planning a 2 week vacation out of the country in June. I want to be able to eat regular food. Good luck and let me know how it turns out since we are in the same boat. -
Yes mine slipped last month. My Dr. drained my band and put me on liquids for a week and did a recheck Thankfully it went back into place. I had to wait 3 more weeks before they would start putting any fluid back in. Last week was when I was able to get it. they put back in half of what I had when it slipped. It really sucks starting all over.

Sleeved 30Th July - Day 5
schristinew replied to kyzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm Sarah. I had mine July 26th, so I'm on day 8. I, like you, felt pretty good afterwards, and then all of a sudden I was feeling worse. I was still feeling pretty crappy 3 days ago, but it was like once I hit a week, I felt so much better. I have lost about 12 pounds, so that was the only encouraging part. My biggest problem was that every time I got up I hiccuped several times and it felt like someone was punching my stomach. It was horrible. I hope it gets better for you!
