Dates that don't revolve around food

What does courting entail? I was never taught these things. What is my end of the deal? If I court a woman, what should I expect in return? Men aren't very complicated. Either you like me or you don't.

    Surgery in Mexico

My response keeps disappearing from this thread when I post it. My fabulous surgeon in Tijuana, Mexico was Dr. Ramos Kelly. I had a great experience and no complications. I stayed at Hospitale Angeles for a few days and then at Hotel Lucerna for a couple of days. He visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day at the hotel. Since returning home Dr. Ramos Kelly has still provided guidance and answered questions when I needed it. The care I received was better than most US surgeons and hospitals. Do your research and you'll find the best qualified clinician for you. Good luck!

    Surgery in Mexico

I had a great experience with WLS in Tijuana, Mexico. My surgeon's name is Dr Ramos Kelly and my MGB surgery was at Hospitale Angeles. I stayed there for a few days and then spent a couple more days at Hotel Lucerna. Dr. Ramos Kelly visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day at the hotel. I've had no complications and am losing weight! So glad I did this!

Dates that don't revolve around food

I started dating 6 months post op. I wish it could have been sooner but I was still really sick with complications. Sex after WLS was the best moment imaginable. Yasssssssssss girl. Hey now.

    11hrs away

Everything went so smooth! No complications and minimal pain. I was walking around right after I got in my room...the gas pains are uncomfortable but I was actually expecting worse. On top of that I only have 3 incisions! I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

    My Journey

I am a 36 yr old man out of Central California. I have been severely overweight since about 24 yrs of age. I started this journey about 2 years ago leaning heavily towards being banded, and the more I researched the more I started leaning toward VSG. I went to the doctor a few years ago and they weighed me before seeing me, and I topped the scale at 507 lbs. I nearly started crying, I couldn't believe how out of hand this got. And that's when the 2 year journey started. I slowly went through the preliminary visits for EKG, echocardiogram, etc. all the while trying different diets and exercise programs to see if I could do it on my own. I would lose some, but ultimately gain it back. I finally set my day back in March this year, and the date set was April 17th. I weighed 488 before pre op started. I started pre op on April 1st, and I lost 21 lbs pre op. Weighed 467 on the 14th. I ended up having my surgery the 18th after all. Today I weighed in at 437 and am loving my choice. There was a complication during my surgery, but my surgeon took good care of me and corrected the anesthesiologist mistake. I have more energy and am happier than I have been, and I have always been a happy guy. I thank God for everything and am glad I am not alone in this journey. I have a great support group... my girlfriend, my family, and my church family... and now all of you. [emoji1] Sent from my Z981 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Which Surgeon?

I don't know anything about Dr. C. I did have surgery with Dr. Illan and I have nothing but positive things to say. Not only was he great, all the hospital staff and valets were awesome. I have 4 other co-workers that are former patients and we have all had great results and no complications Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app

Dates that don't revolve around food

I don't get it.. you want someone to cater to your surgery and your diet restrictions, but don't want to explain anything. This is why I never cared for the dating scene. Too many people expecting mind readers. Communication (or lack thereof) is by far the biggest reason relationships/friendships of any kind fail. It's so much easier to just be up front and honest. Why people wish to play around and complicate things/make things more difficult is beyond me, but not my problem.

BCBS 6 mos diet requirement & comorbidity questions

It is hard because they make it that way on purpose. Obese people are still a group of people that it is okay to discriminate against. A lot of WLS programs make people jump through pre-op hoops to prove they are "worthy" or surgery and will be compliant hoping it will lower post-op complications. In the past insurance has made it difficult for people to get approved because they thought WLS was expensive. Now with Diabetes increasing and the cost of diabetes being so expensive, a few years ago a lot of insurance companies eased the path to WLS because it is more cost effective for them to get people to surgery ASAP. I got my ball rolling my BCBS by calling them, verifying my coverage. Finding a Blue Center of excellence, and going there for the seminar. Going through my normal Drs was absolutely useless. I went to the Bariatric program and then they told me what I needed from everyone else, and I just hounded everyone to get what I wanted as fast as possible. So I went from first visit to surgery in 8 weeks. ETA: I read your prior post, which you wrote while I was writing my post. That sucks but you need to get rolling on this 6 months ASAP if you want to have surgery this calendar year. The year is already almost 1/2 over.

  11. I'm 4 weeks po. I'm not regretting, but I must say, it's a little harder than I thought. I've had no complications, and I eat and drink what I'm suppose to. But I feel very tired, and I feel sort of down atm. Miss my work, miss having energy, weight loss is slow..etc. I always thought I was so strong, so I am a little surprised by it all. 12. They told me about the hair loss, I researched the hair loss online, but the feeling of pulling out 15-20 hairs at a time is not a fun one! Hoping this ends as fast as it started haha. I am, however, down 42 lbs since surgery, 60 lbs since the start of this whole process. And I have tons of energy. I also didn't get any of the complications I've heard of others getting. So if hair loss is my biggest obstacle, I can deal with that. But it is not fun.

    Nervous!!

So I'm not at goal yet but I'm having the extra skin on my stomach removed because it's giving me so much trouble. The surgeon said mine will be one of the largest he's done. My surgery is June 5th. I'm so nervous because it will be a 5 hour surgery and they had trouble waking me up from my sleeve surgery which was shorter. I woke up with the breathing tube in. Also he told me I have a higher chance of infection and wound complication because of my past history and some meds I'm on. It will be a 70 cm incision. I have to stop 2 of my psoriasis meds which also scares me. My psoriasis is pretty severe when not medicated. Even when medicated I can have our breaks. 3 times in my life, and each time worse than the last, I've ended up in the hospital with a really bad out break where basically all my skin comes off. Even with all these things I feel like I NEED this surgery to improve my quality of life. I'm almost down 260 pounds from my highest of 540 and my extra skin is pretty bad already. I can't do any of the other surgeries until I reach goal but this is one I can do part way. He's explained that I may need a revision tummy tuck when I reach goal since I'm still a little less than 100 pounds away from goal. Insurance approved coverage first try though which gives you an idea of how bad it is. I'm just nervous and excited at the same time. Has anyone had this surgery? What was your recovery like? What were your results? I don't do well with surgery generally. After the sleeve surgery I was kept 5 days instead of 2 and was in pain for 3 weeks. After my gallbladder removal I was readmitted to the hospital due to pain. They told me I wouldn't be able to save my belly button. So now I get to tell people I am an alien or was created in a lab..which I'm kind of looking forward to. Lol I'm so nervous but also so hopeful this will help...

  15. I am feeling similar. I think it is just normal to be anxious before a major surgery. I will be picked up tomorrow morning at 8:30 to head over to the hospital. I will have some pre op tests and then surgery. I will be keeping all of you in my prayers for a safe surgery with no complications. We are all going to do great. I hope we can manage to sleep a little tonight. See you on the other side!!
  16. Real roast beef is too tough for a fresh sleeve, eating stuff like that makes your sleeve work over time and it can twist. Google twisted sleeve. That is one of those complications that does show up until later on, but your actions now can create complications later on. Post-op diet is a prescription to prevent complications, this is a serious diet, not a time to experiment, you have the rest of your life for that, control yourself for 3 to 6 months. Your life is worth it.

  18. I had a GREAT experience with WLS in Tijuana. I definitely got better care than in a US hospital and my surgeon (Dr Ramos Kelly) visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day in the hotel where I went to recuperate for a couple more days after being discharged. I've also kept in contact with him since I've returned home and he continues to answer questions and provide guidance. My insurance would not cover surgery for me and the cost for self-pay in the US was astronomical so that was not an option. Medical Tourism is very important to Mexico so the assumption by folks that it is unsafe is unfounded and shows your lack of current and accurate knowledge of the industry. On this website, if 1 person shares a complication, many immediately blame all medicine in Mexico. And yet the majority of complications we read about are happening to patients who have surgery in the US - so that same mindset should make people afraid of surgery in the US. Crazy how your bias can skew your perception of reality?! My point is Mexico can be a very safe and affordable option for people who aren't lucky enough to have the right insurance.

Help! I ate a whole Pizza. How??

I'm still amazing that people treat the post-op diet like any other diet. It is a Dr prescribed diet to limit complications. Telling someone that is risking their life and healthy to seek therapy isn't a bad idea. They are already obviously desperate and reaching out for help if they are posting on the internet. Just because someone suggests you seek therapy, doesn't mean you have to, but a lot of people are not even aware OA exists and it can help a lot of people. Hell just reading the OA book can be helpful. People still treat WLS post-op like it is just any other diet and it isn't. If someone had heart surgery you wouldn't tell them to ignore Dr orders.
  20. I kept mine a secret except to my daughter and husband. I have a couple of reasons. First, it's no ones business. Second, I am embarrassed to admit I couldn't do it on my own. I ran into a couple of neighbors and they saw how poorly I looked. They didn't ask but I volunteered that it was "women" surgery, and there were complications (there were). If people ask about weight loss, just tell them you have been dieting. Again, it's nobodies business. Sent from my LG-D851 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I was banded 2 days ago (May 10, 2017) and I have Crohn's Disease. I would love to hear from others with Crohn's or Colitis; IBD; and even IBS... how are your symptoms with the lap band? any complications? success with weight loss? Any deficiencies? etc.. I'm very new to this, please share..

    Any May Sleevers?

I have a couple friends who have had the sleeve and they are enjoying life to the fullest and have been for a few months! I wouldn't think the first year is hell unless you have complications. Maybe the first month though. You'll see here that everyone is so different. Some are hungry some have to force themselves to eat. I'm going the 22 and understand that fear of the unknown. I guess we just have to dive in and deal with what comes. Good luck.
  23. I had GERD yet my surgeon recommended the sleeve. He said I most likely had a hiatal hernia and he'd fix it during surgery. He said that was almost always the cause of the GERD. I stayed on the omaprezole for 6 months and now I take it only occasionally. My surgeon said if I had another 100 lbs to lose he would have recommended the RNY but he said that the risk of long term complications, while low, of the RNY was higher than the VSG, so why risk it if the GERD would most likely be resolved? Of course, you have to do what you're most comfortable with, but I thought I'd share my experience with you.
  24. I had rny 12/30/16 my weight was 289. The first three months the weight was just falling off. I am now 4.5 months out and lost only seven pounds for the month of April and no pounds so far in may. Im down to 233 pounds. I get all my protein in for the day. I get all of fluid in. I exercise four times a week which I alternative between running, walking, and strangrhe training. I have lost several inches I went from a 22 to a 14 in pants and from a 3x to a large in shirts. So I'm definitely losing. I didn't have any complications after surgery no vomiting extra surgeries or any problems. But I am looking at other ppls progress and some are down ninety pounds. Am I doing something wrong?. I know we all lose at all different rates but I'm getting nervous. I do eat carbs from fruit and veggies maybe between 30-50 a day only because I do weight lifting and I mean light weights nothing extreme. Help me. I need advice and encouragement. Looking for 1st hand feedback

I had MGB over 5 months ago. I haven't had any complications whatsoever. I was self pay and went to Tijuana, Mexico, where Dr. Illan was my surgeon. I was in the hospital for three days, and then went to the hotel for two days, where a doctor came to visit me each day. I have steadily lost weight with no stalls, and it's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am almost 70 lbs down and I couldn't be happier!!!
