Hi. I wish they would let me do a diet like that with real food! Mine is putting me on a liquid diet called Optifast. It's 5 shakes a day...period. I hear the first few days are hell, but afterward it gets better. 2 weeks of that! Yikes! But I also hear that you can lose up to 20 lbs. on the liquid diet! It would be a good head start to the weight loss. Then I have to be on the liquid diet for 1 more week after the surgery. Good luck with your diet and keep in touch...we will need support during this week! Take care!

One Dr said that sometimes a traumatic event will trigger panic attacks. I do remember when they put me under they were holding the cup over my nose and mouth and told me to take 3 deep breaths and it felt like there was no air coming through and I turned my head to get away and to get outside air and he pushed it tighter over my face and forced it on me and then I was out. But just before going out, I thought I couldn't breath and he forced that thing down over my face and it felt like I was being suffocated and murdered. Maybe that was it? Who knows, but now I'm fine and no more issues.
Anyway, now do you know me? Did you see any of that craziness?
If so, I'm sorry you did!
Did u stay at Lucerna Hotel?

Hi Deb
This is the first Forum I have EVER done so hope this reply gets to you. I was banded by Dr Dolan 3 years ago and he was brilliant. I couldnt be happier. I have lost 64 kilos and have maintained for 1 year now. I was 131kg and now weigh 67kg.It wasn easy by any means. The first year especially took a lot of getting used to what foods I could eat and unfortunately a bit of vomiting when trying to eat meats ans breads etc,, I was banded under Medicare out of Joondalup Health Campus and Dr Dolan even gave me a referral to have the loose skin on my tummy tucked (3 kg) and that was also coveredby Medicare. I cant believe the difference it has done. I still have terrible loose skin on upper body, arms and legs but it is a small sacrifice compared to what i used to go through. Do you have family and friend support? I wish you all the best. Jeanette:thumbup:

I'm doing well. I had my third fill about a week ago, and I'm trying to decide if it's ok, or if maybe the Dr. should take out 1/4-1/2 ml. I have to be very careful about chewing and what I eat now so I don't get anything stuck. I'm going to give it a little longer before I decide. I'm glad your surgery went well. I hope you're enjoying your time off work!

Oh I know OMG!! I started my pre-op diet yesterday basically I'm on the Atkins diet so no more rice! I did find a pretty good alternative though, cauliflower! I just put in my food processor so it came out like rice. It was actually pretty good :-) And yes I'm both more excited than nervous though. I can't believe in less than 2 weeks its happening!

Continued...
2. The week after surgry will be okay. I allowed myself to become dyhydrated and had bad headaches and nausa for a couple of days. Once I started sipping water I felt fine..tired.. but fine. The liquid diet is no big deal. It is a short time and personally I didn't want to eat anything big. Keep sugar free jello, soups & and protien drinks around! As surgries go ... this one is no big deal. The incisions were no big deal.. not much pain at all. It felt more like really sore muscles from too many sit ups. Just don't get to active before your doctor tells you!

Continued...Maybe the one that inspired you to have the band surgrey!! When you first see the scales move down you will be excited. But sometimes weeks pass and their isn't much of a number loss. These pictures will keep you inspired. When I lost my 50 pounds, I knew I felt better and I was excited about losing this weight. However, I was still a plus size and it is difficult to see the difference. I know that sounds strange but I never really saw how big I was and I am now shocked at the difference I see. So when I get stuck at weight for a long time I can look at my before pictures and then at my now pictures and it makes me feel soooo good. Sometimes when my weight isn't changing I am still losing inches. I do really recommend you taking that before picture. Some place in your house where you can repeat the pose in a couple of monthes ... to get a good comparison. It will help inspire you thru the tough times!

That is B***S***! He should have given you something for the pain. Where is your port? (mine is in the belly button) I took my friend socal with me, I couldn't see or feel what he was doing but she said he was really digging around trying to find the port, the look on her face said it all. I can only imagine what that pain would have been like w/o any novacaine. After the shot wore off it was quite painful...still 3 weeks later I cringe when I lean up against a counter, or carry a box or laundry basket. I would look into this a little further, maybe demand something next time. Do you feel any restriction? I was good for a couple weeks. I need one again. Good luck:)

Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear you are also having issues with your port. My port kept flipping on me, so I finally insisted on the revision to RNY. I have to say the recovery after having the band removed I feel SOOO much better. The recovery time was really quick too. Within a week I was off all pain meds.
Now I'll be having RNY done on 2/23 and I can't wait

No lol.. they gave me three weeks off! i am kind of going crazy at home so i am pondering the idea of going back on monday. the liquid diet does suck big time. i cant wait until its over. i was emotional too. i cried at the thought of not being able to use food as my comfort anymore. its a big change. i was emotional after too... but i have lost 8 pounds so that is cool!!! good luck you will do great

I had a hiatal hernia too. You already had a fill? My first fill will be the last week in March. When I went to my 2 week post op on 2/24 I was down 15 pounds since surgery. They told me not to expect any more weightloss until my first fill UNLESS I only eat 1/2 cup each meal. Then I may lose more. Well, I can eat normal now so half cup just isn't enough. But I have been eating low calorie, low fat, sugar free foods and doing the treadmill so I at least won't gain weight. I've been very lucky not to have acid refulx anymore. No more sleeping sitting up! But since I have been eating normal I haven't lost any more weight. I'm just trying to be patient until my next fill and keep myself motivated to stay active and smart eating. I'm curious as to how you are doing now as well. It seems everything changes weekly, doesn't it? How are your incisions? Mine are almost gone. I'll have a scar from my liver one because it did get infected for a day.

Hi, I just read your blogs and they are very inspirational. Thanks for posting them. I only a week postop lapband surgery, so this is all new to me. I did alot of research before getting the band and I feel like I have a good grasp on the concept and know the band is only a tool. You still have to deal with the games that your mind will play on you! I do believe exercise is key and who couldn't benefit from exercise?? Congratulations on your success!! : )
