Gall Bladder Surgery 9/20/11
FlyGirl replied to FlyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember having those sharp stabbing back pains a few weeks after surgery and for me it never got bad enough to go to the Dr about it... I just assumed it was kidney pain because I was having a really hard time getting all of my fluids in. If it gets real bad definatly at least call your Dr to see if he thinks you should come in. My gallbladder pains are in the front, right side, right under my rib cage. Now I have read that some people get the back pains as well when they have gb problems. My dr ordered a ultrasound to see if there were stones and a HIDA scan to determine the function %. Good luck, hope you feel better soon. -

Banded 17th December in Australia
Melinco replied to Nicole0477's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you don't mind my asking, why did you have to be rebanded three days later? Did you have serious complications? -
Heartburn is the worst. It actually made me sick the other morning. I have been taking an over the counter med the last few weeks as I have ran out of the one I was given after surgery. I wish I had asked for more.

Don't worry, I was hungry all the time too at that stage.. I ate quite often, however making all the right choices, which was mostly protein. When I started to incorporated more foods (on next stage), the hunger was def not as bad. I am very happy with my results, 42 pounds down, 9 weeks post op.. You will do fine, Good Luck!

How much weight did you loose pre-op?
ShrinkyDinkMe22 replied to Readytobeskinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Between what I did on my own and my 2 week liquid diet I lost 32 total prior to surgery. 15 of that was while on the 2 week liquid. -
Congrats! The first couple of weeks are the worse but it gets better. It was hard for me to get comfortable also when going to bed. I bought a body pillow and tucked it under my belly when I slept on my side, it helped provide support and I slept much better. Good luck.

I received my letter to stay out of work for 3 weeks after surgery (8/31) but It has the dr name and location which makes it pretty obvious what my plans are ! Of course it does what was I thinking . The letter just states major surgery but the location and Drs name is a giveaway . I'm going to go to my PCP and hope they will write it over for me on their letterhead . Wish me luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sweets bingeing prior to pre-surgery diet
Esther54 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone else who did binge-eating and making every bad food choice possible prior to starting (and delaying starting) the pre-op diet? I feel disgusting and actually am getting turned off to the sweets and junk. What predicated the bingeing in recent weeks was my bariatric group telling me I might want to GAIN 10 lbs prior to surgery (to be over 200 lbs)---really crazy. Was this just to increase my medical necessity in the eyes of the insurance company? -
I'm only a week and a half out and have met my 64oz goal since day after home from hospital. But I was a big water drinker prior to surgery, maybe that's why? Not sure if type of surgery matters, I had gastric bypass. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

has anyone cheated on their full liquid diet
stevegoad replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I voted that I did. My doctor had Clear Liquids one week, full liquids one week, soft foods one week, and then advance as tolerated. I went from clear to full liquids a day early, from full to soft 2 days early, and from soft to more regular foods at about 3 days before hand (so I kind of worked 6 day weeks instead of 7 day weeks). So, I didn't really cheat the diet so much as the calendar. -
My pre-op diet started a week before surgery. I could have 3 to 4 Protein Meal Replacement shakes, 1 Protein Bar, and then Clear liquids like broth, Jello, and crystal light stuff like that. I am surprised they have not given you a guideline, maybe you could call and ask them to be more specific because it is going to be important, the usual reason for a pre-op diet is to shrink the liver if the liver is to large when they get in there they may not be able to do the surgery. This is not meant to scare you just inform you. The bottom line though is do whatever your doctor says ~~~Stephanie.

op is valentines day ive got the jitters
MegaBob replied to katieTC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Pre-op I focused how excited I was to be taking control of my weight problem, how happy I would be to see the scale going down, remembering how it felt to have clothes that fit, and that getting a sleeve was major but many people have successful surgeries far more extensive than a sleeve. Post-op I did exactly like my doctor told me to. I set a timer for every 15 minutes to remind me to drink. I drank Protein drinks to kill two birds with one stone. I walked until I was tired or starting to get sore, usually 20 minutes every two hours. I slept in a lazy boy because it was much easier to get in and out of vs a bed. I did not rush to the next stage of food, I did not cheat at all. After the first two weeks of liquid only ( my doctor requires 3 weeks of liquids) I was really ready for something I could chew, but I waited. I told myself it was a small sacrifice in light of how far I needed to go, and I knew that I had to learn to resist temptation if I wanted the sleeve to work for the rest of my life. I always take my Vitamins. I weigh once a week at the most, and only if it feels like "a skinny day". I look to the future and sustaining the weight loss as my goal instead of losing X # of pounds. I think of future events and how I want to look, feel, and enjoy those events years down the road. This way of thinking helps me internalize that the sleeve is a life style change for the rest of my life, not just a quick way to get to certain size. -
op is valentines day ive got the jitters
JerseyGirl68 replied to katieTC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Post op is a little different for everyone. I had a very uneventful recovery, and very minimal discomfort. Recognize that even if you feel great, you are numb inside and need to heal so don't over do it. Take it in stages so you don't get overwhelmed. When I got home, I was on full liquids. The first few days I focused first on getting in all my liquids, then Protein. After about a week with no issues, I wasn't have trouble getting in my fluids, so I focused more on protein. Which is what I have done since. You may be sensitive to temperatures, warm liquids went down easier initially for me. If you are concerned about anything that is happening - post. Someone is typically around and always willing to help or listen. Though your exercise will be limited, walking is perfect for those first weeks. make time for it. Best of luck to you!!! -
I had the same problem...I was in Poland two weeks before surgery. I just didn't worry about it, but didn't go overboard either. I just timed things so I would have two weeks pre-op to make sure my liver was as small as possible.
