Worried about how my boyfriend will handle the "new me"
lawanda jessica replied to Candle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Julie honey I know it's possible. It's just that you have to choose wisely. Me with my fat arse and all love pretty men. I'm a pretty woman fat but pretty. Anyone can get a man but it's the quality I'm looking for. In my twenties I was up and down with my weight so I dated all types of pretty men. Some arseholes, playas.mamas boys, nut jobs even a few unattractive men. I gave them chances and loved a few but it was rarely returned. I prefer the entire package. I'm 31 now and I have too much on my plate now to deal with a mans bs. Yes even at 200 plus pounds I want it all. I feel like other woman have their ideal mate and they are not half the woman I am(not size wise but quality wise) so why can't I? When you have been hurt enough you learn from your mistakes especially being a big gurl/teanager/ woman with low self esteem. Alot of boys/men play on that. I know I need to lose weight but I dont need some undeserving, self serving piece of a man to remind me of it everyday. I could very much remind him of his imperfections as well. Instead I would encourage, console, nurture and completely go blind when it came to his. I'm down on myself enough! When I get to goal gurl they better watch out because I'm going to be dangerous! -

What Not To Do With Your Sleeve

Full on half cup of soup LOVE THE SLEEVE
NtvTxn replied to techgurl1988's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You're the first person I've seen that has mentioned buffalo. My husband and I have left red meat almost totally behind and switched to bison a year ago. He had a blockage and after that scare and his stent was in place....we really changed a lot. We both read labels!! His nutritionist said that bison was so low in fat and especially sat. fat that it was like eating skinless chicken breast or fish...it is also very high in protein....perfect for me!!! The trick is I learned after much research, the buffalo must be nothing but grass fed, no grains at all. I order ours from a ranch in Texas and one in Wisconsin. Both ship the meat to our home on dry ice! It's soooo good! -
Not an emotional eater but I just LOVE food. worried.
Jeffie Beck replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Didnt get to read everyone's comments but I really wanted to chime in! I LOVE the taste of food. Always thought I wasnt an emotional eater. I don't eat when I'm sad, angry etc. Then the therapist who I see who works at my surgeon's office reminded me: happy is also an emotion! You enjoy the taste of food, it makes you literally happy when you can eat and enjoy it and sad (i.e. we cry and get emotional) when we cannot. It is a form of emotional eating that directly correlates to the disease of obesity. So no worries, it's normal for our abnormality. I have type 1 diabetes, meaning that since I was a kid, my body stopped making insulin. Unlike type 2, it didnt happen bc I was overweight. I was healthy, extremely active (9 years of ballet/jazz-tap), and well adjusted. It just hits us (halle barry and mary tyler moore also type 1, and are thin as a rail and quite healthy). I take insulin, and have put weight on increasingly ever since I started at 13. And also since then, I found it harder and harder to be satisfied with food. I'm 5 weeks post op today. And still struggle mentally with the size of my plates. But TRUST ME, if your sleeve will not let you comfortably eat more than you should. The gurgling and tightness you feel, like a big ol' ball of food is sitting in your chest trying to work its way down, is actually a blessing! My body is telling me "you've had enough, i need to spend some time working on this." I admit, I'm not thrilled yet about the smaller plates bc of what I want visually. BUT i am thrilled that i can eat so little and say, well, I'm done. I wish you so much luck as you start your journey, my dear. Feel free to add me as a friend and stay in touch if you continue to feel apprehensions. We're all here for ya!! -
Please Help Me Decide ...
Kami63 replied to Andrew0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't regret getting my band bc I would certainly have climbed to over 400 lbs without it, but I am revising to a sleeve on 6/25 due to complications with my band. I too did not have the sleeve options when I was banded 6 years ago. On lapbandtalk.com you will find many wonderful success stories and many horrible complications as with any surgery. Do your research and find what fits you best. I personally am ok with having 85% of my stomach cut out after having the horrible complications I had. But I am still not ok with the bypass. Good luck! -
I do know they had different instructions for diabetics as far as the risk of bs dropping etc and med adjustments. Your surgical team should instruct you on what to do and how often to check your bs. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

Sherb the denial from insurance company won't be due to pre existing conditions but rather because services rendered were not authorized under plan in first place and therefore all future care is also denied relating to those services. The only way around that is to get a new insurance company, which in many cases means a new job. Have seen this rejection on this site several times already. I think it's bogus bs. But I am sure it's real. Obamacare ties their pre existing hands. But that have large internal legal counsel for a reason.

Hello I just received my surgery yesterday for the sleeve. Has anyone else experience when they drank water it hurt the top of their stomach. I keep getting spasms at the top of my stomach. I'm Nervous about going home if I'm unable to drink properly. I've been walking pretty often but the gas is still there. Also my incisions hurt and I tried not to take the oxycodone but the tylenol doesn't do anything. I was trying to complete the fluid intake amounts but think I overdid it bc now I cant drink anything without sharp pains. Any advice on what I can do or does this just pass on it's own? Hope this helps After my consultation with the bariatric surgeon I had chosen, I had to contact my insurance and talk to them about what they required for me to have an insurance approved lap band. I have federal bc/bs of Florida. They required a letter of medical necessity from my regular doctor, a BMI of 40 or greater, 3 months of supervision by a nutritionist and my regular doctor, and a psych evaluation. I also made sure my bariatric surgeon and the hospital he was using was a preferred provider with my insurance company so that they would cover the maximum allowed. My surgeon's office walked me through everything I needed to get done in order to be approved by insurance. My surgeon set me up with the nutritionist which was a meeting once a month for 3 months. Then I went in for a 1 day psych evaluation. After the 3 months of nutritionist and doctor visits everything was submitted to insurance and I was approved in 48hours and scheduled for surgery within 30 days. My surgeon also required that I have a pulmonary clearance and cardiac clearance before surgery, all of which was covered by my insurance. My surgeon suggested a 10 day pre-op diet, but every surgeon is different. I am having surgery on July 24, 2012. And besides all the running around to different doctor appointments everything so far is going smoothly. Goo Luck on your journey!!!!

Did anyone eat scrabbled eggs during the puréed food stage? They are such a good source of protein and seem like they could be chewed well. I tried them blended and couldn't do it bc of the consistency.

I think it depends on the person and the opinion of your medical team. I've heard, been told and read repeatedly, no straws. I will be 6 weeks post-op on Tuesday. I started using straws at week 3 bc I was having trouble sipping slowly. So, I grabbed a straw, first sipping slowly to test the waters. Success. I have not had any problems with a straw--no gas, it doesn't make me drink too fast, or any of the other problems stated, etc. I'm sure everyone has had a different experience, especially since the NUT and surgeon's opinions vary from person to person. Good luck on the journey!

I lost my weight in 2020. Since then I’ve been struggling with my tummy mostly (I lost 120 and other areas could use a nip tuck). I have a pretty big belly it prevents me from tucking in and wearing a lot of things I would like to wear. I’m 56 years old and petrified of surgeries but especially this one. I know it will be very painful. And also the quote I got at the surgeons office was 15k for tummy and 15k for breast lift. I’m in Boston and this was in office not in hospital. In hospital was an extra 11k. My questions are 1. Does that price sound outrageous? Again it’s a good size job and I’m sure it’s more bc of that?? 2. Is there anything else I can do to reduce this tummy I know the big procedure is the only way to really do it but do these fat loss clinics (must be lipo?) clinics work? 3. How painful was this? 4. Would you do this in office? Thanks so much for your feedback!

What insurance? Wait 4 approval?
THENEWME2012 replied to BestPTA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I have BC/BS of Alabama and although my paperwork has not been submitted because I have to do a 6 month diet, Dr. T said it would only take a couple of days and he would have me a surgery date!!! Now if I could just get through these 6 months of anticipation. -
Sure no prob guys. Here are some of the books I found with the higher ratings and reviews. 1) 101 BEST Paleo Diet Foods by Health Research Staff 2) Everyday Paleo by Sarah Fragoso 3) Paleo Comfort foods: Homestule cooking for a gluten- free kitchen by Julie & Charles Mayfield 4) The Power of Paleo! By Mario ans Vienna Zander's 5) The Paleo diet solution: the modern caveman's cookbook 6) The Paleo diet cookbook by Loren Cordain, Ph. d. Now, don't forget this will be a lifestyle change not a temporary fix. Basically your body will be burning fat for energy instead of carbs. This is a very carb restricted diet. You're body will be in ketosis. But many people who assume they just do this for a week or 2 and than go back to a higher carb intake bight find the lbs coming back or weightloss stalling. I think this works for me bc I can live without rice for the rest of my life now.ni made the decision that is rather be healthy and I want to motivate my mom and dad who have a plethora of health issues and only cook very salthy, MSG infested, high fat Filipino food. I want them to live past their parents (bfathers died at 65ish) and have them walk me down the aisle and meet my kids. Besides my house is kind of a slaughter house. Sorry vegetarians:( but we love seafood and meat over here. I think it'd be the perfect diet for me. Also, did you ever think about this?: white rice doesn't taste like anything! Hahahah my nephew told me that the other day saying "Awww mommmm, but whats the point? It doesn't taste like anything!" smart 4th grader. I just found another good book by Loren Cordain and Friel: the Paleo diet for athletes. The first 20 pages are very good.

Dealing with others issues
Sleeve1stFitNext replied to katgb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never thought I would say it but my bf is now distant from me. He has not spoken to me since 3/25 the day before surgery. It is now the 3/28 and still no response. All the talk and bs that he was spilling about caring and wanting to be there was a waste of time. I have decided to not waste anymore time on him as right now is about me and my healing. Sometimes we have to let things go and stop dealing with the nonsense of insecure men. -
i agree with roberta and the others too . This just looks like a case of im not eating the way i should exercising and so forth and im not losing cause i dont put forth the effort and so lets blame it on something so let it be the thyroid. My friend has problems with her thyroid and she gets extensive blood work done every year so they know if her meds are right or need adjusted and they have all recommended the lapband over the bypass. so i think you little post is just a big pile of bs!

Hi all! I was banded yesterday with no complications. I slept like crap last night bc I am a side/tummy sleeper and sleeping on my back is really uncomfortable. Today I'm sore but no worse than web I had my c-section in may 09. I know I need to be up walking the block, but I'm pretty sore. How is everyone else doing?

I think it was just my body adapting bc I don't feel like that anymore. Goodness was that a testament of my mind over stomach. I won! -
We can't have carbonation bc of the gas bubbles right? so can we open a drink, say a diet coke, and let it go flat before we drink it? Not all the time, but once in a while if I have a soda craving tht wont go away. Im pre surgery and I am just trying to think of my options.

Anyone Have Federal BCBS?
Cynrey replied to sleeveme7781's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Fed BCBS basic. I just got approved and am having my surgery on Wednesday. Their requirements are a BMI of at least 35 or above. If your BMI is over 35 but under 40, then you must have at least 2 comorbities such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea. 40 and above BMI doesn't require any comorbitiy. They require 3 months (in a row) of a supervised diet plan with your physician , a referral and letter of medical neccessity from your physician and a history of obesity. Because of the required 3 month supervised diet it takes at least that long for approval. My gastric surgeon's practice is the one who required the NUT, Physc eval, and a few classes. It sounds daunting, but it wasn't that bad. I started in July and good approved in November. Mine took that long because of the 3 months consecutive appointments that were needed with my doc. Good luck to you ! -
Stepping on the scale.....
anassathalassa replied to Deleted Profile's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Right now I weight myself once a week, but once I go into maintenance I will probably do it every other day to hold myself accountable. Years and years ago I would weigh myself pretty consistently and it helped me stay in a certain weight range. But when I started gaining a few pounds (the freshman 15 lol) I stopped weighing myself all together and 1 year later at my physical I had gained almost 60 pounds! I think I was in denial of gaining weight and not knowing my actual weight fed into that denial. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
It is very rare to get pregnant on Depo unless they did not get it at the right intervals (or got pregnant before it would be effective). I don't know about impacting weight loss (I don't think it will have a big impact) but have you considered an IUD instead? The thing about Depo is - it's in your system for 90 days whether you have issues or not (you can't stop it or remove it like other forms of bc).My obgyn didn't recommend the IUD because so many women that come see her have had issues...constant spotting, cramping...just something I wouldn't wanna deal with. ????????????
