Where in Canada do you live? I'm in BC!

What birth control should I use?

Nuva ring here too. Even though I take my thyroid pills every morning I'm scared poopless about missing a BC pill for whatever reason. I've had really no issues with it. I too have a reminder on my phone and on my calendar in the kitchen. The only thing I would say if you're thinking about doing the Nuva ring is make sure you store them in the fridge. My friend's brother now has a baby because his girlfriend didn't store her's in the fridge. Yeah....

What birth control should I use?

I used to be on Seasonique. I loved it. 4 periods a year. Then I switched to Nuvaring. It's nice too because you don't have to take a pill. I would put a reminder in my phone to tell me when to take it out. But the best advice is talk to your gyno to make sure you are on the right bc because there's so many out there! My hubby and I are now trying for a baby, so I'm not on a bc anymore. And my periods have finally come right on time by themselves!!!! whoo!!!!

Just another day, another day, another day

Today was a little off. I feel crappy, crappier than I have in months. The day started with me ignoring the alarm clock that was set wrong and sleepin in until 655a. I was supposed to be up at 615a because I had a neurology appt at 745a and wasn't exactly sure where it was. So I had to fore-go my much coveted morning shower in order to dress the kids and myself and get in the car. Hubby had to take me bc I still can't drive and he screamed and moaned worse than the children that he was hungry. So, of all freakin places, he decides we are going through the McDonald's drive through WTH?!? I ordered an egg mcmuffin and ate the egg mc part, that is to say I trashed the muffin. I was almost late for my appt but not quite and had to wait thirty five mins to see the doc. He was very nice and helpful and gave me prescriptions for my migraines (which I was so apt on filling but completely forgot on my way home) and made a follow up appt for one month. My head is pounding now but I'm not sure if its from lack of sleep (it has that dull feeling to it, that "you're freakin tired" feel) or an actual headache that turns into a killer migraine. I took the sample the doc gave me awhile ago, but its not working. Mia is atleast taking a nap but Jordan is standing here yelling at me that she "needs to call the police (comes out poohleees) because someone stole her bathroom stool". So I really want to lay down and go to sleep but thats not happening. I only take solice in the fact that Mike will be home in an hour or so and I will be able to sleep. Did good with eating today though, (aside from my egg mc - the muffin) had a lean cuisine for lunch and some hot air popcorn for snack. Good job tiffy =) ~tifftiff

    % weeks post Lap Band

I am also a little over 6 weeks out and hate to exercise. Honestly - it is just hard to do when you weigh over 300 pounds. I went and bought a good pair of sneakers and a ipod nano. I don't like listening to music, but my 13yo daughter introduced me to pod casts. Now I can listen to all different types of things including a weekly lapband podcast! I walk for 45 minutes 5-6 nights a week after everyone is fed and I have a little time to myself. I even bought a book to listen to. I can now walk the hills without being out of breath. My feet still kill me because of my weight, but when I walk the numbers on the scale go down. GOOD LUCK!!!!

    Diabetic Burnout

Hi, I have not had my surgery yet, I will have it in October . I am a insulin dependent diabetic right now . I have been following the eating plan my Nut gave me in March 2018. I have had some very low glucose scares,. They usually happen in the middle of the night . I have dropped my insulin way down and I make sure I get something with protein and a few carbs about 1 hr before bed. My diet looks like this 3 oz lean protein 3x a day 3 servings low fat dairy 3x a day ( this counts towards my protein) 3 or more servings of veggies a day ( 1 c raw or 1/2 c cooked) 2 servings max of fruit 1 healthy fat ( oatmeal, quinoa 1/2 c I eat 3 meals and 3 snacks for anywhere of 1000 - 1200 calories daily 100 g protein 60 - 90 carbs ( I never reach this ) I have not had surgery yet 64oz water ( I drink about 80oz) No caffeine ( decaf is ok) no regular creamer sf only I use vanilla protein powder in my coffee that helps with my protein also No alcohol ( empty calories, high sugar) No pop or anything that is carbonated No candy, chips, bread , anything made with flour, rice, bananas, cream soup, tomato soup ( unless I make it myself without sugar) No pasta No juice (regular or diet) I used to have juice to help with my bs lows before I started this Now I use glucose tabs with 4g sugar. No real sugar ( stevia, Splenda ,other subs are ok with my Nut ) I drink at least 1 protein shake a day to get my 100g in. I will be going down to 80g in the beginning of June If you would like to know more send me a private message. I have lost 44.5 lbs from following this and exercising 5 days a week. I don’t miss the carbs anymore, I do miss my club soda but I can live without bubbles in my water. I will be very honest I started this diet change 7 months before I am even having surgery because I know myself. It will take me that long to be clean as I call it. I do have a treat now and then ,I have gone out and eaten a pice of fried food but I always ask for a box to be brought out when they bring my meal I take most of it and put it in the go box. My husband gets any fried food left over and I get the veggies , I always order veggies as my side . I don’t always get my protein in or my water but I try. I was never up before 9 am and now I am up at 5:30 and leave for the gym at 6:30 Monday - Friday . On the weekends I am usually walking around our doing yard work that is my exercise for the weekend. You can do this. You will have some bs lows but you will deal with them and move on. Please don’t get discouraged because of 1 person. Ask all the questions you have this forum is full of the best people around . They have experienced everything after there surgeries and have the best suggestions and great ideas to help get through this. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

    My Solemn Promise

Well good morning. I am replying to myself in this post. I am drinking a carnation instant breakfast with some added skim milk to add protein. Should keep me full till lunch time. I awoke this morning with a refreshed attitude. No BREAD bc it is a huge down fall for me and I CAN get it down,at least until I get a fill. So say GOOD MORNING TO THE NEW ROBYN, ON HER WAY TO A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE!!!!!
  11. HAHA-I think sometimes ppl make rude comments bc they think the person being picked on is too timid to say anything back...I would have loved to see those red faces. Sometime ppl need some humility and be put back in their place. Ppl today just DONT THINK a lot before they speak!

    Pissy

Haha, yeah, I hear you. I told my surgeon (yes told, did not ask) that I was ending my post-op clear liquid BS after 10 days. He actually agreed and said it was fine. I think it was along the lines of I either end the diet or I end you.

    I Want This Sleeve!

*Hmmm* Where do I start?? (FYI:This is my 1st blog *nervous* lol) WLS siminar 3/5/12 I joined this website about a month ago after my first consult with my surgeon. On 3/29/12 I was so hyped to finally get the ball rolling because I am so excited to start my new life!! When he asked what surgery I was interested in I was so proud to say the lapband because I watched alot of youtube videos and joined the lapband website and was so set on that. Then he suggested that I should look into the sleeve. I was so shocked because I wasnt expecting that suggestion. So he told me I had a long ways until I had to make a final decision. He didnt pressure me whatsoever,He just wanted to me to look at this other option. So I went home and started to do more resarch on this sleeve. Fast forward to today....I WANT THIS SLEEVE SO BADLY!!!!!! lol.Im so happy he opened up this idea of the sleeve.I never looked too much into the negatives of the band. Im also looking into the negatives of the sleeve.Yes Im worried about leaks. Yes I am still a little nervous that 85% will be cut off but the longevity in the success of the sleeve has overpowred the worries that I have..I cant deal with the band with all the fills/unfills.And because im 24 he said in my lifetime Im going to have to get the band replaced( For exapmle if I had implants. The silocone has to be replaced). I dont want to have to deal with that down the road.Plus what if my insurance 20yrs down the line doesnt cover it??Ill b so screwed. I hope to only have to go under the knife once. Whats left to be done This month has been jammmed packed with so many appointments!! I have labs and my psyc eval tom and hopefully thatll be it. On Monday I had a sleep test done but of course they said itll take two weeks to find out if I have it. Hopefully I dont havr it.Plus thatll delay the surgery too. :-/ .Im really hoping to be sleeved by june bc I have a bday in july and would hate to have to spend it in the hosp or on a liquid diet .But if it happens that way so be it. Getting super prepared Omgee Ive been so hype abt preparing for this surgery.I havent even submitted it to my insurance yet.lol.I brought the wls cookbook for dummies.Ive been buying sample packs of differnt kinds of protien shakes/broths. I brought weights,a sauna suit,n a pair size 6 jeans I hope to wear one day.lol.Im just losing patience until I get this date.lol Ok lemme wrap this up.lol....It feels good to finally get enough courage to write a blog on this site. Now im ready to make friends, comment on other blogs, the whole 9.lol. Thanks for reading guys.

    Canada or US

Great choice great people, excellent doctor. Even though I am having trouble with getting my fills in BC, I would still go back to Dr. Yau. I am sure others would praise their doctors but Dr. Yau was one of the pioneers that brought the band to Canada. Doddie

What was YOUR Moment of decision?

I was thinking the very same thing. Especially considering the amount of BS he stirred up over there, only to disappear from that thread and be found posting here. I am also choosing not to share my story here. The flies are getting too thick.
  16. I have Tufts insurance and was told I didn't have to lose any weight prior to surgery. I gained about 10lbs between Oct and Feb bc of the holidays. When I saw the np for a follow up in Feb she said she wants me to lose the 10lbs by the end of March bc she doesn't want insurance to deny me. I've lost 5lbs so far and am so nervous that I could be denied over a few lbs. Has anyone had this issue before??

How I did Labor Day Weekend

Hi, I just discovered this journey blog and am so glad to found it. I really really need to write this journey down and by doing that will work through a lot of issues with weight loss. Since I just found it I am actually noting what I've done from 8 days post-op (this past Friday). I became hungry, yes really hungry. My co-workers ordered Chinese take out (I LOVE CHINESE). Since no one knows what kind of surgery I really had (most think I had gall bladder surgery), they kept asking, don't you want something? Finally I looked over the menu to see if there was anything liquid and decided to order hot & sour soup. I skimmed off the juice (about 5 tsps) and added it to 4 oz of chicken broth. It was so, so , so good. I am just fed up with sugary protein shakes and skimmed milk. I just needing something that had a little "kick" to eat (and salt)!! I finally got in about 68 ozs of liquids today. Saturday was my family picnic. I just knew this would be the most challenging by far. I scheduled WLS after the major holidays and hoping I could sail through this weekend. Well, the menu was traditional U.S. southern.....chicken (fried and grilled), fried fish, grilled ribs, polish sausage, hot dogs, hamburgers (beef and turkey), baked beans, spaghetti salad, slaw and chips. Boy, did I have to psych myself out. I prepared my shakes and just kept drinking propel and water (by the way, I can now get down more than 4 ozs-----can't wait til I finish healing to get my 1st fill). I must admit, I did cheat.........sort of. I took a chicken and rib bone and sucked that sucker to death! I even chewed a little bit and spat it out (that's the sound of a desperate overeater)!. I felt so, so bad. My family kept asking me why wasn't I eating? Since they don't know I had surgery, I kept telling them I was detoxing to wing myself from sugar and salt and had to be strong and stop sabatoging (sp) my diets. My family is always having some big cookout or dinner! The good news is again I got my 68 ozs of liquids in and I went on a nature walk up and down hills and even did the exercises at each junction. I am a Christian and very active in church. Today is 1st Sunday which is of high significance at my church. It is Communion Sunday. The only problem is I didn't know it (I overslept and forgot). Problem number 2, guess who prepares Communion? ME!!!! Church starts at 11, I got there at 10:15 to start the preparations. I know my blood pressure went up! I got it done but it threw my entire day off. As a matter of fact, it is 7:30 p.m. and I've only taking in about 36 ozs of liquids and 28 grams of protein. I need 30 ozs more and 60 more ozs of protein. Darn! I guess I'll be up til at least 3 a.m. After Church, my DH says, can't we go out to eat to O'Charley's and you get something off the menu? Despite my telling him over and over why I can't eat anything solid, he just doesn't get it. And this is so like him whenever I'd start a diet, he would sabotage it, yes seriously!! He will want to go out more to dinner than when I am not dieting! I drank 16 ozs of water, then 30 minutes later had my protein shake. I then drove down to my mother's house to pick up my granddaughter..............more enticing food. I need my head examined as I almost cried of hunger!! I quickly left and drank 17 ozs of Propel, ordered more hot and sour soup and skimmed the top and added to broth and it satisfied me. So that's it for now. I am about to go and make another protein shake and go for a ride with my DH. BTW, I found out the hot and sour soup has 100 calories, 1 gram of fat and 1100 mg of salt. I split it to one serving once a day so it shouldn't hurt. Later. Rumar

    Suddenly very hungry...

Thanks for the replies! I know it's not acid bc I take Prilosec everyday, and neither Pepcid trial or Tums trial made it any better. I eat chicken as well, plus tuna, eggs and ground turkey. I tried beef, but did not go so well. I am getting 70 plus grams of Protein in daily, and over 70 oz liquids. I get full fast when I eat, so I stop eating bc I thought I am supposed to stop when my body says stop. Maybe I need to slow eating down more, so I can get a little more in at my mini- meals. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Don't Get Upset

May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His Glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the Holy Spirit indwelling your innermost being and personality. EPHESIANS 3:16 The day begins and we are dissappointed or get upset and then we may act ugly, throw fits, and ruin our witness of what God has done in our lives. People will be jealous of you and how you have lost weight and they will envy your efforts and covet what you have. Do not act ugly or Get Upset. Pray for those people and be happy about your accomplishments anyway! Good health brings about true happiness and for a longer lifetime! Losing weight has always made me feel better about myself as a person but never made me feel any better than any other person. We are all created equal in Gods eyes! Be satisfied that you made the right choice for YOU! You can not decide for others what is right for them, the LapBand is for me, but NOT for everyone! Many people constantly seek the thrill of new experience, but everything new eventually becomes an old thing. Sooner or later, people have to be happy with old things too, or they will never reach God's higher goal of contentment. We must learn to be content with such things as we have to the point where we are not disturbed or disquieted, no matter what state of mind we are in. We should remain humble and enjoy plenty. The secret to facing every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, was to be content.:smile2:

    Last tango in Fatvile...

I realized today as I was getting dressed that I always seem to go the “extra mile” when it comes to my appearance on days I go to the doctor. Today I meet w/my bariatric surgeon & dietician on the path forward. Sept 21 will be here before I know it! But back to appearance – it just dawned on me that I think I go all extra on days I know I’m going to the Fatty Doc, bc I feel like my “cute” will somehow overshadow my “fat” – which is often…or at least SOMEtimes the case in the real world. But at a bariatric Dr.’S office – they rarely see the “cute” – if at all, and mostly only see a person that they are glad had sense enough to do something major, about a major health crisis. *sigh* I’m good at being fat. Have been fat my entire life. And though after all is said & done a year from now, for all intents & purposes – I’ll still be a fat girl…but a lot healthier one (and 75-100 lighter). It didn’t hit me until today that this will most likely be my last “uncomfortable, morbidly obese, disgusted with myself and how big I’ve gotten” summer. This time next year – I won’t be so cramped in the metro seat as I blog by crackberry, ill be walking taller w/a lil more pep in my step, AND I will have ridden the rollercoasters that I haven’t been able to get on for the past 5 yrs – at least a thousand times. While still struggling with some future vanity concerns and how ill feel in my new body – I’m still excited. & optimistic that this was the best decision for ME. I know I’m cute (most of the time)…but for so long the magnitude of my good-lookigness has been overshadowed by my weight. Get. Ready. Here she comes… *doin my Geyonce dance* uh oh uh oh uh oh…

    Lack of PROTEIN!

My biggest piece of advice - but one of everything. Even if you loved it preop. And then, 2 weeks later your tastes will change. So hold off in giant jars, etc.I've read that..ty for the reminder too....I'm glad I didn't but a few boxes of preimere protein bc tge sucralose is already making me sick and I'm still pre op until tomorrow!!! I've been holding my mom off on buying things! Lol

    February 2007 Bandsters Unite!

Hi Everyone, I'm so glad I found this thread. I was banded on Feb 23/07 by Dr. Amson in Victoria, BC. My surgery was fairly uneventful. I stayed in the hospital for one night. I am not having any pain to speak of. I do have a bit of bruising around my port but my incisions are pretty much healed now. I'm in my third week of liquids and mushies and am doing not too badly. I still get hungry but it doesn't bother me as much now. I am looking forward to regular food though! I am seeing Dr. A. next week and hoping that we can discuss when I can get my first fill. I lost 10 lbs in the first two weeks, but nothing since. I know they say that this is a time for healing but I'm getting impatient! I am logging my food intake on fitday.com. Thanks to all those who post their experiences. I'm learning lots. Erin

I have a BMI of 48. Was told on the phone that they would cover procedure if BMI was over 40. I also was told they only approve after you have all of the surgeons requirements are satified. So that leave me feel vernalble to having to self pay for all of the appointment I already have gone to if I get denied. Is therer snyone else out there who has had the surgery and federal BC/BS paided. Worried in Western Mass. Peggy

Had a dream last night that I went shopping one day after the surgery... *sigh*... if only! Thank you to all who post on this site... its been a god send for me!!
