Gonna get banded on 1/30!!!!!!
AshleeSuzanne replied to AshleeSuzanne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there! It is a diet that helps the liver shrink so the surgeon can access your stomach better. I work in the OR, and when my boss found out I was having the band she let me sit in on some cases and it is amazing because they have to really jostle your liver to get the band in. If the liver is smaller (can be acheived by cutting fat/carbs etc) it is much easier to maneuver and there is much less chance of your liver getting damaged with all the movement. I have a specific diet from my surgeon to follow, which consists of 2 slimfast (lunch and breakfast) and a small sandwich and salad in the evening. It is very low sugar/carb and I have to do it for 2 weeks. It has been a change in my lifestyle already, let me tell you. :wink2: Anyway, I hope all is well with you!! When are you getting banded? Hi I had my surgery on the 6th April 2009 with the hospital group in the UK. I lost 14llbs initially, had a fill on the 21st May and have not lost anymore since!! I have booked in for another fill on the 16th July and am hoping the weight will start to shift. I know the band is in place as certain foods get stuck also if I don't chew, or eat to quickly I throw up, but other than that I can still eat relatively large portions and get hungry alot. does this ring any bells with anyone and if so how did they over come it, I am feeling really frustrated as it cost £7000.00 and for that I only get four fills, of which I will use the 2nd next week!!

No, I can't tell him...well I will eventually, but I know he will try to talk me out of it. He likes my junk:tongue2: and says this is what happens after you have a baby...I can't accept this-this is the biggest I've ever been and I have a 9 month old to keep up with. I have 3 older sisters and I've only told one (the one who lives here in Dallas with me) I've told three of my closest girlfriends..the ones I know will support me and not judge! I've got a pretty good support system, just wish my honey could understand. He tends to not accept the things he can't understand. I guess we will see how it goes..I want to post pictures, but am afraid he might find them one day . LOL!!! Are you ready to go?? You will be fine. Just think-this time next year we will be saying "what was the big deal"!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Sghatl - I had two abdominal hernias. My doctor said it was a real mess inside, but from what many others are saying, I don't think it affected my recovery very much. My first week was pretty miserable, but now at 10 days, I'm almost feeling normal. Good luck with yours.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, the doc started me on Optifast this week. I pushed until this morning (after having a really nasty gallbladder attack last night) and am trying to hold it together. No, the ribs in the fridge aren't calling my name but it is getting interesting around here (especially with all the damn Halloween candy). And no, meditation, walking, keeping busy isn't really helping. I'm craving meat, something substantial and of course, can't. Surgery is November 26th now (doc pushed it two days due to my gallbladder getting yanked at the same time). 25 days....

I am so excited everything is coming so fast, all these test and clearance are coming to the end now. I will be having final pre-op testing this coming Saturday and final visit with surgeon next week. My pre-op diet starts on June 25th (only one week for me luckily) and the big day is scheduled to be on July 3rd; however I still have not received the magic call (to let me know I am approved by insurance BCBS NJ) but hoping to get it soon. I would like to know from your experience about the pre-op diet, if you guys did only shakes/ liquids or how your diet looks like?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!

Pre-Op Diet Ideas?
donna12 replied to Christina2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've got to do 2 weeks of protein shakes (3 a day) pre-op. From what I've read on here, which is great info is Jay Robb protein shakes are good, EAS is what my surgeon was pushing, Max Muscle shops, there are all kinds of drinks out there with high protein so you don't get hungry, just google them and i'm sure others will post on here too for you. Good luck. -

6 months med sup diet ??
jenncore replied to soozan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can always call and ask your insurance co. what they require. I know it varies widely depending on where you live and the kind of insurance you have. When I started seeing my Dr. about 2 years ago I wasn't thinking about weightloss surgery. She worked with me and set up a medically supervised diet with weightloss meds. I was able to lose about 20pds but then completely stalled. When I decided to have surgery, all of my appointments were already done. If you have any paper work from previous diets, get them together. Copies of cancelled checks will work as well! Please hang in there, I'm sure everything will work out for you! Jenn -
OMG! I have so much to do and not enough time, I'm trying to get a cheap fly from FL to SD for next week it's not possible the one that I found returning time is not good for me. Can you guys suggest any site? I have to go groceries shopping for proteins and vitamins. BTW I got an email from Louise that I need to do a 3 days liquid diets and I have to take a laxative 3 days before surgery (YUK). I was hoping that I didn't have to do no liquids diet since I have a low BMI. After all this done I really hope I can relax hopefully, I'll be pain free.

Surgeon sums it up.
LipstickLady replied to MoMo12onTheGo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup. Your last line is ON POINT. Every surgeon is different. These are great general guidelines, but they are not "THE RULE". I am allowed gum/straws/alcohol. Six months was the rule by my doctor, I was given clearance at three. I had a catheter as does everyone else in our practice. No complications. 60% is the worldwide average MAYBE, but of all the sleeved people I know, ALL have exceeded 60% weight loss. I think that's an extremely low estimate. Everyone I know hit their goal, or are within 10 pounds of it. I know you said it, and I agree with you. Everyone's surgeon is different. Follow your team. After all, you entrusted them with your life. -

Sudden rise in blood pressure after WLS?
ready2B posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had RNY 4 months ago and was able to go off of 8 of my 9 medications. I've felt great and have had no complications. My labs at my 3 month appt were excellent. My blood pressure has been stable at around 120/80 or lower for the past couple of years including the past few months when I've been down to only the one blood pressure med. But then for the last week my pressure has suddenly spiked to as high as 169/106 for no apparent reason. No undue stress, eating healthy, getting plenty of fluids, taking my Vitamins religiously. I've added back in my other 2 blood pressure meds but no improvement. Has anyone else has this happen and if so, what was the cause and what helped? -
I was scared before surgery but I had no nausea or vomiting post-op. I am down 54 lbs and feel great! You will, too, in a few weeks.

:clap2:Well today is better. I went for my first office visit since my surgery on Sept. 27,2007. I was glad to see my doctor. I was not so happy with him. I was hungry and felt I had left 2 messages and no one returned my calls. I wasn't in the state of emergency, no fever, nothing I felt I should call him on his cell about. But all in all I had left 2 messages. Sweet as he is, He turned it all around and said u know no matter what you can call my cell !!! Well I couldn't give a response so...He is very likeable and cute so what's a woman to do. I had lost 10 1/2 lbs so he was pleased wth me. I go back in 3 weeks for my 1st fill. He really shoots from the hip, no playing around kinda guy. Kinda harsh buts says he can't sugar coat any part of this or we run with it. Simple we use any excuse in the world to make adjustments for our crazy life style. One thing that he told me the day before the surgery, which I have to say kinda made me stand up and take notice was... He was talking to 2 other women besides myself, all getting the surgery & says look all three of yall ladies are wearing slip on shoes. So you can just throw them on and throw them off. Saying yall have made adjustments for your obesity. Which while thinking kinda pissed me off, but I had to be real or I will never get to the bottom of why I was ever over weight in the 1st place. Like he mentioned grabbing a chair without arms. I guess things we never really take notice of. My thing was seems like every time I went there everyone was larger than me. Yeah like me being 257 lbs. was small. What a joke, so I was justifiing me being severly morbitly obese. Just another excuse to excuse my lifestyle. Like a drug addict, well I only smoke a little weed or alcohol, I drink only on weekends, I'm not on the streets making an a$$ out of myself or beating my kids or the cops being at my house cause someone was out of control. Just all excuses to justify why we do what we do. By the way I do not do drugs or drink alcohol, lol So I know 1 thing for sure I have to get down to the real facts of why I seemed t not be happy , which I have loads of fun, or just seem to want to destoy my life. One thing about all this surgery, yeah I want the fine body, but my health was falling so much, I just want to be lighter & live so much longer !!! Now there I said the real TRUTH!!! :clap2:
