13 weeks post sleeve to bypass and have been stalled with weight loss...haven't lost for three weeks. I can't find anything that addresses this type of stall, so here I am! I've lost 35 since revision and was hoping to lose a little more. Having my three-month check up on Tuesday...thanks!

Hello everyone my name is Luna and this is my first time ever on this forum and website. I'll start by saying hello, and I hope all is well with everyone during these difficult times. I am a night shift nurse tech in a hospital. Almost 5 years ago I was 450 pounds. I had gastric bypass and I got down to 170 pounds, which was 20 pounds from my goal weight of 150. Three years post op I began working night shift and I have steadily, over the last three years, gained weight back until i was my highest weight since, of 244 pounds (Two weeks ago) I have since then begun eating better and drinking water and am now down to 234-235ish(it changes from day to day) but I am having such a hard time staying motivated and keeping myself from slipping back into the emotional and stress eating that working night shift and my job brings. I have a short term weight loss goal of 10 more pounds which I have decided I am going to reward myself with a new piercing, and I would like to lose twenty more pounds total before my trip in October, and just be more fit in general, so that my back, feet and ankles dont hurt when i walk around disney as bad this year. Long story short, im pretty depressed about my situation which really causes me to, ya know, stress/emotionally eat things i know I shouldnt, and begin to slip back into my bad ways. Looking for penpals, real life pals, online people I can become friends with to keep me motivated, as my support group is small right now due to the amount of hours i work. Feel free to reach out if this hits home. Maybe we can help each other!

Preparing for Band to Bypass
devotion replied to Ange6012's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks, Sandra! I hope you are doing well. I am glad I'm not the only one. I am self-pay for bypass, but the removal is covered under my insurance thank goodness! -
Preparing for Band to Bypass
devotion replied to Ange6012's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck! I am also going from band to bypass but the surgeon is making me do two separate surgeries: removal of the band and then the bypass. Ugh! I am thinking I should get a second opinion to see if it can be done all at once. Hope everything goes well for you! -
I have kaiser, and I'm finally at my weight goal, I go in on Monday for my weigh in! Super excited. But how long after that do they schedule your surgery? Do you just keep that weight goal. Or keep trying to lose? I'm getting the gastric bypass. And been trying to accomplish this since January. Thank you in advance Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

What Led To Revision
GreenTealael replied to dennydenco's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not everyone or even the majority of people will need a revision so try not to worry about it right now. Good Luck! -
I just had the gastric sleeve surgery three months ago. I tend to find myself being really concerned about stretching my stomach or doing something that will cause a downfall. For those preparing to have revision surgery, is there any advice you can give regarding what led to having to have revision surgery? What wisdom would you pass on to those of us who just had our initial surgery? Thank you. Very very grateful.

What’s your revision story? Was your revision as effective as your first surgery?
Tracyringo replied to Thisisgonnabegreat!'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
As far as weight loss goes I constantly struggled to keep myself under 175 with the sleeve and I was only eating around 1000-1200 calories a day. I lost 131 lbs with sleeve and I stuck to the plan that first year. I revised because of GERD weighing in at 180 in 5/2020 I lost an additional 28 lbs and my weight is stable for once !!!! The best part about this bypass so far is my weight is stable and I dont struggle to stay at this weight which is 13lbs less then I got with VSG. Good luck to you. -
Anyone from Ireland on this forum, with experience with Irish service for gastric bypass surgery ?

Use insurance for BYPASS or pay out of pocket for SLEEVE
STLoser replied to keneee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know for me, I would have taken any surgery insurance would have covered. Unfortunately, our insurance covered none, so I had to pay out of pocket. Because I already paid that money for my wls, it's unlikely I'll be able to get surgery to remove all the loose skin I am left with. If I were in your position, I'd go with what surgery covers. Also, I went into this wanting the sleeve myself, but after meeting with the first surgeon I changed my mind to gastric bypass. After that (it was beginning of covid), he was fired and I saw a different surgeon who recommended the Loop DS for me, which I had not heard of at the time, but after researching that's what I decided on because he said it was the one I would have the best chance of losing the most weight with. Hi there! I'm an RN and having a revision surgery (sleeve to RNY). I'm currently being seen at the UCSD bariatric dept but have had nothing but problems with them. I had insurance approval, but without explanation they literally refused to let me make an appointment for almost 6 months. I finally called them and said that I've been getting railroaded for 6 months and that I wanted to speak to someone who could actually help me. That worked and I got an appointment, but not until after they told me that my original approval had expired and that I needed to get another one from my primary doc!!! Anyhow, I've been through the entire pre-op process and weekly classes etc. a few times. Once when I was considering a lap-band. Once with my ex-husband, and the third time when I had my sleeve. Needless to say, I know what to ask and was very upfront and direct with my doctor. He ended up lying to me about the pre-op weight loss requirements at every single visit (3 in total), and then refused to refer me to the surgeon (When I saw him 6 weeks prior he said that he would write the order to see the surgeon). And no, I didn't gain weight. Lol... I'm just curious if anyone else has had a negative experience with UCSD and if you were able to get it resolved? When I asked for a different doctor I was refused, but after I put in a formal written complaint they decided to let me see a different doctor. In the meantime, my insurance has approved another bariatric group and surgeon. Yay! Hopefully my experience with UCSD is just an anomaly.

Preparing for Band to Bypass
Tomo replied to Ange6012's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck on your revision. If I had known what I know now, back then, I would have gone straight to bypass. Both the lap band and sleeve gave me many issues. Weight loss was good but the band cause esophagus issues so I had to switch to sleeve. Weight gain of course, when they removed the fluid for months to heal... And now the sleeve caused severe GERD and now I am revising to bypass. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -

July 22 surgery date - Revision from VSG to RNY
relaxrelaterelease replied to relaxrelaterelease's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I’m here at the hospital on my surgery Day! I’m an prepped and as soon as my surgeon comes in, I’ll then be taken to the OR for anesthesia and for surgery to begin. I can’t wait to be reflux free and pray this revision will be the key. Wish me luck! FYI: I only did the pre-op liquid diet for 7 days and lost 6lbs. For my records I am posting my weights: HW- 250-252 10/18 VSG - 242 LW - 202 7/21 RNY - 218 -
Had my revision on July 13 and am in my two-weeks of full-liquid post-op stage. I'm getting in my water, which is tough. Protein goals are unobtainable for me right now since everything tastes gross. I'm at the point where I'd lick the armpit of a panhandler for a scrambled egg or something easy to eat without all the fake sweet flavors. Stayed one night in the hospital. Received two blood thinner injections. Regretting the procedure, but mainly due to the staff at the clinician's office. It kinda feels like they got their hand on my money, so who cares about my follow-up and other concerns I have. I'm hoping the feelings of isolation and anxiety soon cease and I figure out the best way to proceed.

8 days away and having second thoughts, help....
NovaLuna replied to Vincent AI's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery involves a VSG stomach (just with the intestinal bypass bit in addition). I'll be 18 months post-op tomorrow. I was concerned with several things leading up to my surgery, but everything has worked out well and, honestly, like many, I just wish I'd done it sooner. 1) How long will we struggle to drink Water? I struggled the most with my fluid intake. I was really bad at it and I don't remember how long it took until I was getting in what I was supposed to, but it's not as bad as you're probably imagining. 2) I've seen that some people say they will almost always vomit after eating or drinking? I've never vomited once since my surgery. Nausea? Yep. Vomiting? Nope. 3) Will I be able to swallow the meds? I can't really help you with that as I have EOE and couldn't swallow pills BEFORE my surgery and still can't swallow them after surgery (EOE is an auto-immune disorder that can cause dysphagia. I can't swallow pills because I choke on them. Every damn time since I before I was even officially diagnosed 5 years ago. I, quite literally, haven't been able to swallow pills in half a decade) 4) Will we feel tired and impaired due to the limited food and water we can take? You'll feel tired because you had surgery! I've had surgery three times in my life (two other times then the WLS) and exhaustion is a normal symptom after. You'll be fine after a few weeks. I think it was about 3 for me. 5) I was made to understand from the doc that dumping isn't common for the gastric sleeve. It's very uncommon for the sleeve. I mean, it's not impossible, but it's more likely you'll just stumble onto a food you don't tolerate well. It likely won't be full on dumping syndrome, but maybe nausea or stomach upset. But then, there are some who have no issues whatsoever. You may be one of those. 6) I currently do not have GERD, but is this something I should expect to occur after the surgery? My EOE causes acid issues, but only at night. I had that before my surgery. After the surgery I noticed that I had LESS issue with acid. I take one antacid a day verses the two I used to take before my surgery. Only about 30% of people have GERD issues. That's 3/10. If you look at it like that, then your odds are that you may have no GERD issues at all. I mean, it can happen, but there's a 70% chance that you'll be fine. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best! -
Severe Gerd/esophogeal dysmotility. Revision vs nissen or just hernia repair?
CKmommy replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my rny in January. Only a couple months later I started to develop ulcers. Last week I went to the ER with increased pain to find that even with treatment I had one ulcer that had perforated. I had to have an emergency revision. I can totally relate as I dropped 10 lbs in one week and the pain has definitely been more intense. I also had some constipation issues so they gave me magnesium citrate which helped. This has been hard because I was just feeling like a normal human after 6 months and I literally am starting over 😂 I hope you have a speedy recovery! -
Started Soft Food Stage - don't feel after a meal
Thisisgonnabegreat! replied to Loriey's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I’m wondering, I’m considering for myself as I am seeking to schedule a revision within the next few weeks if my body some peoples body might just handle a good old green smoothie better than I don’t know avocados and tunafish or some thing. I’m seriously considering becoming a vegetarian and I’ve been trying to figure out what would keep things really simple and keep me feeling the most energized with the most vitamins and thought Hey maybe I will just live on green smoothies for a few months after surgery. -
what vitamins brands do you recommend?
catwoman7 replied to cheryl o's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
vitamin brands don't matter as far as sleeve vs gastric bypass go. single dose bariatric-specific vitamins tend to be more expensive, but then you also have to figure out the cost of buying separate vitamins (and taking two multivitamins a day, too). I do the latter, but I don't buy expensive brands, so I'm probably still coming out ahead. And there's the convenience factor to consider. As long as you're meeting the requirements, either option will work - it pretty much just comes down to personal preference. -
I'm at the early stages of going the procedure route, and I'm looking for any feedback good or bad. It will really help me make this decision if I get feeback from people who have gone through this procedure and not just what the clinics tell.

8 days away and having second thoughts, help....
Jaelzion replied to Vincent AI's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's normal to have questions and second thoughts. It's a big decision a life-altering experience. It's good to get first hand testimonials, but remember that we're all different, so someone else's experience may be different from yours. Here are my answers to your questions: 1) How long will we struggle to drink Water? I've read that even after healing completely it may take 15 minutes to drink even half a teacup of water without vommiting, is this true? I struggled with drinking for the first two weeks. In week 3 the swelling subsided, the pain eased up and I was able to sip without difficulty. And from there it just got easier. Two and a half years out, I can now chug about two swallows of water, LOL. 2) I've seen that some people say they will almost always vomit after eating or drinking? Is it really that common? I did not have this experience. I only really threw up once - the first and only time I overate. It happened because I didn't recognize what "full" felt like with my new tummy. After that, I knew when to stop. 3) I am on quite a few meds which my cardio says I need to start the day after the surgery. Will I be able to swallow the meds? Swallowing meds is hard at first. In the early days I crushed those that could be crushed and managed to get down the two that couldn't. It gets easier as the swelling goes down. 4) Will we feel tired and impaired due to the limited food and water we can take? I'm on my pre-op liquid diet now and I just feel so weak and hungry, is this the constant feeling to expect after surgery? No, it's totally different after surgery. The surgery leaves you with a much smaller stomach and it also affects the hormones that case hunger. Many of us have very little appetite in the early months and then appetite usually returns gradually. There's no guarantee that you'll NEVER be hungry, but constant hunger and weakness is uncommon, IMO. 5) I was made to understand from the doc that dumping isn't common for the gastric sleeve, yet I've read quite a number of accounts that say otherwise. Is this something common as well? I've never experienced it - I've heard it's possible but much less common than for bypass patients. 6) I currently do not have GERD, but is this something I should expect to occur after the surgery? I've read some people can't even lie down without getting acid reflux. I didn't have GERD before surgery and I still don't. The sleeve can make GERD worse for people who have it, so they are usually recommended to have the bypass instead. And it does happen that people who didn't have GERD develop it after getting the sleeve, but a lot of people (like me) don't. I hope that helps. Don't be afraid to ask your surgeon these questions as well. You should be able to go into this with all your questions addressed (although actual outcomes aren't guaranteed). Best wishes! -
what vitamins brands do you recommend?
cheryl o posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I am pre-op, i am expecting my surgery date to be early September. I have seen many brands for vitamins and types of vitamins that are single dose vitamins that have all nutrients in one. And other vitamins where you have to buy mutiple types. Which is the better one? Is there a diff? Does the vitamin matter if you have VSG or Gastric Bypass? How long will I be off of work?
ZhivagosGirl replied to Pennykay's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 2 weeks post op from my bypass today - I took a shower yesterday, it took it out of me, I unloaded the dish washer today, it still took it out of me. I still feel weak and tired most of the time. I can't imagine being back at work full time at this point. But like they say everyone is different. Best of luck to you. -
What have you tried so far? My suggestion would be calorie counting, there are lots of apps which will calculate your daily calorie allowance for weight loss, you could track for two or three months see how you go. If you don't fancy calorie counting maybe check in with a dietician. Other than that there is weight loss revision surgery once you've given some of the options a go, if you are inclined towards a revision.
