    Had my surgery!!

Congrats to you!! I had my surgery last week Tuesday. I told my mom the first day out of the hospital that I regretted it, and that I didn’t want to go through this process anymore lol. It’s nice to see that I wasn’t the only one feeling like that, but it’s done and over...and there is no looking back! I’m claiming greatness for the both us [emoji4]
  2. I went to Disneyland for 3 days with the husband and children 6 weeks out from surgery.. It was fine, I walked all day long and rode all the rides..I did get tired a lot but I managed. Now food.. I would look at what stage you will be in at that point and make sure you have what you need. Needless to say I didn't eat any of the park food, I brought my own.
  3. I'm just thinking about the swimming thing. I was told 6 - 8 weeks ... unless you're OK with not swimming the ENTIRE time you are in the Caribbean ...
  4. I was having my second surgery at that time. I guess my perspective is that to leave the country during the highest risk period would be iffy at best, not to mention a pain because of lifting and activity restrictions as well as food issues. I'd push it to two months minimum when you are off of most restrictions and are likely feeling more normal. It's a trip of a lifetime you should enjoy to it's fullest. A couple of weeks makes a huge difference post surgery.
  5. Hi all! Thanks so much for all the info. This is my first post, but I e already learned do much from browsing around here. My insurance only covers the band or RNY. I'm 100% sure I want the sleeve, but not sure I'm ready to do it in Mexico. I'm single with three kids, and I don't know if I can be that far away for that long if I don't have to. All the local surgeons seem to be charging in the $18K range, and their staffs aren't too helpful or good about returning my calls. I live right in the center of the state, a couple hours from SF, and about 90 minutes to Sac or Fresno. Any suggestions?
  6. Where is your large incision? Others have posted that it is on their left side, but mine is on my right. ?? I'm almost a week out and the only discomfort I'm having right now from my incisions is ITCHING!!
  7. Hey everyone sorry it's bin awhile since iv bin on, my surgery was sept 23/2010 nd I went in at 200 and now I'm 175 I feel great people have been starting to notice nd so have I, I can't eat much but I don't care I love it u really realize how much u ate before surgery. I don't know if anyone can relate to this but I often get this feeling in my throat maybe I little more further down it's hard to describe it's fizzy achy burning feeling feels as if you can throw up when u get that feeling my mouth sometimes even gets watery when that feeling comes, when it does I breath and it goes away but I wanna know what it is. I hole iv list what's recommended at 2 months and week out, I'm excited to loose more seems like the weight loosing is in spouts it will quit then come off again stop then start loading again etc. Anyway hope everyone Is doing good

I have waited maybe 5 minutes (if that) at Dr. Nick's office for every appointment I have had. The office seems to run smoothly and on time. Dr. Nick's pre-op diet was 2 weeks long. It was basically 4-5 slim-fast shakes or meal bars a day and ONE meal of 4 ounces lean meat and 1 cup cooked veggies or 2 cups raw veggies. The day before surgery was liquid only and clear liquids only for evening meal before surgery. Pre-op diet was not fun but was very thankful for the one "real" meal each day. I also used some of the protein shakes/bars that the dietician had, they were about the same cost (maybe slightly more) but IMO, the shakes tasted better. As for scheduling, I attended his seminar in mid/late June, saw him for my consult the following week, and scheduled surgery for August 4th. I could have scheduled earlier but between his summer vacation plans, my summer vacation plans and a business trip I had schedule in July, August 4th was the first day we were BOTH available.

  11. Hey all I am so exited to transition to the next phase how ever my menu is limited with ideas please share your favorites. Thanks you I don't regret any decision in my life because at the end I will make it work
  12. So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track!

    Anyone from Alabama ?

Dr. Britt and Dr. Groves will be providing monthly support meetings beginning this month. The meetings will alternate between Marshall Medical North in Guntersville and Marshall Medical South in Albertville. See the following link to view their calendar for dates and time. http://www.samc.stirsite.com/page/page/2453219.htm Just a note for all those wishing to use Dr. Britt or Dr. Groves. They no longer have a Madison Office and will not be holding any more seminars in Huntsville/Madison. Their last 2 seminars only produced 3 attendees each. Seminars will now be held in Guntersville or Albertville. With the high level of care and compassion these great doctors have for their patients, it is worth the drive to Guntersville or Albertville. Their aftercare and wonderful staff makes them the best choice in Alabama in my opinion. They are doing LAP-BAND® surgery 2-3 days a week now. They believe in the surgery and the need to provide great after care with follow up visits and fills (adjustments). __________________

    Holy Hell Im Beat )=

Okay here we go. Some of you may have seen me looming around for the last past couple months. Hiya I’m back yet again to give you guys’ mai updates. Im 19 female from Chicago i weigh in at 365 now and not happy about it!!! I have been trying to get lap-band for the last past year. I have gone through mai 6 month dietary evaluation for Ingalls and then I did all the pre-opt tests such as the EKG CxR barium swallow blood work and all those super things. I even had a surgeon picked out through Rush Hospital in Chicago. Mai insurance even said I was good to go even though I had to fight them tooth and nail to have them say that lol. I was to go in on FEb 19 and get mai surgery date scheduled BUT get this… After all that the surgeon that I HAD (Dr. Meyers) the insurance called me on the 18th of Feb and told me that they’d pay for the surgeon himself but NOT the hospital or the surgery center so i needed to find someone else to go with or the surgery would be a no-go:crying:. GO FIGURE!! So now I’m getting re-pushed to a different surgeon (Dr. Rashand from University of Chicago) they scheduled me to meet with their nutritionist, psychologist, and the surgeon himself:scared2:. I tried to explain that I’ve been though the ringer and have already done the preemptive workup multiple times. I had to give them 4 days of mai food logs and then they were to discuss me on Wednesday which was yesterday. I got the call on Tuesday a whole day earlier that IM APPROVED!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I now have to go to an information session on March 11th with mai support person from mai family. After that I go back to University of Chicago and meet with the team and stay there all day doing blood work, physical, chest x ray, barium swallow, EKG, and anything else they can pull out of their bag of tricks! Once that’s all done (AGAIN! ]=) then I will be appointed a surgery date and start mai 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I am really hoping i am banded by the end of this month i really honestly am !! 2 years is soo long to have waited for a start to a new life now to have had it in mai reach and pulled back again is just heartbreaking and im a tender heart gahhh im just flustered :cursing:soryyy ppl. Has this ever happened to anyone else?!?!?!?:confused2: if anyone has myspace and wants to talk to me add me please im lookin for ppl around mai age or even close to mai area MySpace.com - nikole ♥ - 19 - Female - Chicago, Illinois - www.myspace.com/yourockmaisocks

    Surgeon sums it up.

Yup. Your last line is ON POINT. Every surgeon is different. These are great general guidelines, but they are not "THE RULE". I am allowed gum/straws/alcohol. Six months was the rule by my doctor, I was given clearance at three. I had a catheter as does everyone else in our practice. No complications. 60% is the worldwide average MAYBE, but of all the sleeved people I know, ALL have exceeded 60% weight loss. I think that's an extremely low estimate. Everyone I know hit their goal, or are within 10 pounds of it. I know you said it, and I agree with you. Everyone's surgeon is different. Follow your team. After all, you entrusted them with your life.
  16. I am so excited. My husbands insurance is going to start paying for the sleeve Jan. 1st. Now i am trying to decide on a doctor. I have been to Dr Nick's semiar and support groups for a couple of months now. Now a friend of the family told be about Dr Barker also. How did anyone decided on which doctor to go to? Both seem to be on the our insurance plan(UHC). I have been reading all these forums for weeks now, i really want to do this right away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :001_unsure:

Stocking My House And The Perfect Diet

Welcome!! I had SF popsicles, SF Jello, FUZE Slenderize drinks, Crystal Light, Propel Zero Water, chicken/beef broth, New whey Protein shots (42g each)and Protein powder for shakes. I was on a 21 day clear liquid diet after surgery (except he allowed Protein Shakes after 1st week) so I had everything I needed. If you are allowed soft or pureed foods in week 2 pickup some Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, cream Soups, etc. Don't overstock on the stuff though because in the beginning you won't be able to eat much anyway. Can't help you much on the 100 lb loss yet. I am more or less following Stage 2/3 of the Atkins plan. It has been working for me. Mostly protein first is the key, so we stay full longer and don't lose muscle mass as we lose weight. I took off 6 weeks, which is more time then most people because I had short term disability at work so I was able to heal completely, both mentally and physically before I returned. My mind was a fog for the first few weeks after surgery due to not having much food intake and it was great to have a eating/drinking schedule established before returning to the work place. Good luck and congrats on your surgery!
  18. I'm going to say not getting enough Water in. I'm at 4 weeks out today and my appt yesterday registered at an 8 pounds weight gain. There is no way partial way I could do that. I really dropped in my water intake so I'm hoping my numbers go down real soon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  19. Make sure you spend a lot of time before your surgery reading the Post-Op forum, if you haven't already! Some questions get asked every single day so you'll be well-prepared if you read in advance. Things like: --omg it's three weeks after my surgery and I haven't lost any weight for the past week, is my surgery a failure? --omg I can drink liquids easily, what is wrong with me? Did my surgery even happen? --omg I'm eating puree and I can eat more than two teaspoonfuls, am I doomed to fail? --my stomach is making weird rumbly noises like a dying moose, is it about to explode? --I had surgery two days ago and don't feel up to running a 10K yet, what is wrong with me? --I had major surgery three days ago where a big part of a vital organ was removed, muscles and nerves were cut and I have incisions all over the front of my body. I am in pain. Is this normal? Should I actually be taking the painkillers that were prescribed for me? --what should I take to the hospital with me? etc etc (as you can see I'm feeling kind of grumpy about endlessly repeated questions this morning, lol -- it is nothing personal, I promise) Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Check in when you can and let us know how everything went

    Liquid Diet

I was required to do two weeks of shakes and then clear liquids my last day. For my shakes I did Bariatric Advantage as recommended by the surgeon's office. That was a rough two weeks. The last day I just went to GNC and loaded up on one of everything they had. I think I ended up living on tea, broth, and that gawd awful Isopure with 40g of carbs in the bottle for the last 24 hours.

    Banded 11/02/07

Hi Jill, I think my doctor had me on the pretty standard diet. It was all Clear Liquids for the first week. The second week I could add creamy Soups, sugar free Jello pudding, and cream of wheat. The third I was able to add soft scrambled eggs, liverswurst, string cheese, oatmeal, fish as long as it was soft and moist. He also said that I could eat meats as long as they were pureed. I skipped that offer. As a meat lover I found that it offended my senses. The fourth week I added vegetarian sausages to my diet just so that I could have the taste of meat without actually having the calories or fat that go along with it. Morning Star Breakfast patties are great, they have 10 grams of Protein each and they are only 80 calories each. But now I'm back up to regular foods and everything seems to be going fine.
  22. Had mine and it was a breeze ... yes the prep sucked... but on a side note they did remove three benign polyps. TMI? Probably - but we are talking colonoscopies here... :-)
  23. It's normal to stall around that time. Your body is just playing catch up. It's so normal actually, I'm kind of surprised nobody warned you about it. Either search here or Google "The Dreaded Three Week Stall" and you will see it happens to 98% of us. You're doing just fine. As a matter of fact, you're even a little ahead of the game with what you've lost so far. Keep doing what you're doing and the stall will pass.

    Sleeved Monday October 20

It really does get better. I know quite a few people have mentioned more extreme nausea and an extra night in the hospital. From what I can remember, 3 sips of G2, chicken broth, and Jello seems like a huge meal to me. For the first week, I had to drink broth throughout the day because I could only manage to get about 3 or 4 sips down at once, but by week two, I was doing fine and switched to purees (mostly pre packaged organic baby food). That went well and I upgraded to mashed regular foods...black bean burger with cheese, cheese omelet, I even had Perkins southern chicken and biscuits platter (without the biscuits) with scrambled eggs. That lasted me 5 meals. Bought a little hand operated blender and took it everywhere with me for 2 or 3 weeks. Now I'm eight weeks out as of today and feeling great. Can eat anything I want, but don't. I don't crave anything either, which is really nice. You're only on day 2.5 after MAJOR surgery. You just had a portion of a vital organ removed. Everyone handles surgery and the sleeve differently. Just stick to what your doctor prescribes as your food protocol and you'll be amazed at how fast you feel like you never even had surgery. Good luck!
