  1. Hi everyone, I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow and for the last 3 days I have been experiencing very bad headaches. I haven't taken anything because I'm afraid to swallow any pills and my doctor said no Advil, Morton. Etc.. Think ill give my doc a call tomorrow to ask him what I can take. I'm having about 300-400cals a day and drinking lots of Water. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

    Protein sample

You can request three free samples from: www.doctorsbestweightloss.com Once you go to this site, click on the purple bar in the lower right corner that says "leave a message" or "chat now". If it's after business hours, you will have to leave your sample request as a message. Otherwise, you can chat with an online chat person. They will let you request a Protein bar, Protein shake, protein pudding or Soup in your choice of flavor. I sampled some protein pudding (Bariatric fusion chocolate) and liked it so much that I ordered a tub of it. They have great prices and service. The samples only take a few days to ship to you. Also, Bariatric Choice will give you two samples at your request. It's usually a chicken broth and chocolate pudding. Click on the following website and fill out the online form for these samples: http://www.bariatricchoice.com/sample-request?utm_source=bariatricsamples&utm_medium=postcard&utm_content=BC3Q2015&utm_campaign=professionals

    weight loss advise?

I hope you soon find your problem solved!!! It's no fun working hard and having it not pay off. I am going to be banded 3/28/11, and have lost over 20 lbs. since Christmas with just getting really serious recently and finishing up a week of liquids. I also just meet with my nutritionist and psychologist so it's all fresh. I agree that at times you have to up your caloric intake but that is usually when you hit a plateau because you have been eating well for quiet a while and your body is used to that lifestyle. I haven't heard of it happening early on in the program so I would cautiously up those calories. Do you journal your daily intake? I use an application on my phone, that is easy to use and keeps me honest! I think writing down what you eat is a must!!! For instance I had to make a birthday cake for my grand daughter and before I even thought about it I brought the knife up to my lips to taste the frosting!!!! Yikes, I stopped but as I went through out the day I had to stop myself several times before I condition myself not to "taste test" batter, cake, icing, decorations. I could have easily consumed 300+ empty calories while I was "baking". On my visit this week it was stressed, eat protein first and don't eat 30 minutes prior or 45 minutes after a meal and make sure you exercise. We should also chew are food throughly and enjoy each bite. I would call your MD and ask for a f/u appt. with the dietician to go over your food plan, if you still have questions. Good Luck, Joleen PS I am sure there is more advice that ppl can offer!
  7. i am one week away from surgery (sept. 19th) and currently on the liquid pre op diet. however, i have horrible dry mouth. i am drinking more than 64 oz of Water a day...yet it is still really dry and I am afraid to talk to people for fear of bad breath. Anyone else having an issue with this??? Any idea why??? Thanks,

    Surgery on 05/14/2015

Welcome and good luck! I know that the couple of weeks before surgery can seem like eternity, but it will sneak up on you in the end!
  9. Hello everyone, my name is mike or some know me as big mike. I weigh 335lbs at 39 years old and I am ready to loose it! I am having the VSG in one week today and I can't wait!
  10. Did anyone have problems sticking to their pre-op diet and cheat eating carbs or anyone with a lower BMI (35-36) that didn't have do do a week or two of protein shakes? I'm worred my liver won't be shrunk enough and my surgery will be cancelled.

    Getting your energy back

I work at a desk job. I had my surgery on a Friday afternoon, released Saturday morning from the hospital. Worked from home on Wednesday. Was in the office on Thursday and Friday, but I slept right when I got home and all weekend. The next week was a bit rough with nausea in the morning, but I had a prescription for that. Otherwise, I was good. I made it!

    Getting your energy back

Welcome Shelly and congrats on your surgery date! I was sleeved April 2nd and went back to work 2 weeks later..I sit at a computer all day and did fine..I had no problems with my energy level, I guess the protein shakes help with that, not sure..but I did well..good luck to you..
  13. I'm a self pay and it was the same for me. Lots of pre-op jitters. From reading the message boards here it sounds very common. Yep, instead of driving a new car or new cabinets and granite in my kitchen .... I decided on the new body and a new healthier me instead. I'm 3-1/2 weeks post op and am VERY happy with my decision. There's risks just getting up and walking out your front door in the morning. With this journey, you get a DOCTOR to help you, so take comfort in that!! Congratulations and good luck on your future success!

My Reality check at 20 months

Just want to add that I see a lot of posts like this, so you're very much not alone. You might want to search the site for regain etc. Also - take a look in the vets forum. I think that's where there's a thread about the 5:2 method, where you eat normally for 5 days of the week and 2 days a week you eat very low calories - about 5-600 I think. Apparently it really helps jumpstart losing again.
  15. So I went to what I thought was my final pre-op appointment today. No problems on the PFT, the results were "very good". The pulmonologist :reddevil:then feels my jaw and neck and says I have a small jaw and because of that and being obese, I need a sleep study. WTF? I was thwarted by having a small jaw? Now I have to have a sleep study Sunday night. How long does it take for the results from the ss? Anyone know? I want to get this this show on the road! Oh yeah, and I sleep on my stomach (even when pregnant through 25 weeks!)...how is that going to be possible with all of those electrodes?

    Getting your energy back

I was able to move around and drive less than a week out, however my lack of energy was outrageous. I couldn't go more than 2-3 hours before I needed a nap the first 2 weeks. After that I it was a nap twice a day till 3 weeks out and then 1 nap a day between 3-5 weeks. After that I was fine, I believe that really slow recover compared to some people, I actually felt fine the whole time, not a lot of pain at all for me. I was just so tired all the time. I worked from home right afterward also and around 2 -3 weeks is when I began to feel like I could accomplish thing, slowly, lol!

    Pre-op diet vs post-op diet

For me, I can think of food but I know that I wouldn't be able to eat much so I really plan what to eat so I get the nutrition I need. I made a mental switch when I decided to do this surgery that the things I ate before were not my friends. They got me to the point I was at and things needed to change. Sure I miss some foods but I can also find a way to have a healthier option if I really want it. I would rather get healthy and lose weight than eat junk. I don't really get hungry but I am also only 5 weeks post-op so who knows what may come. Good luck!

    Stupid freak out

I am 4 weeks out of surgery and all together I have lost 68 pounds, I went to a doctors office and weighed and I had gained a pound. I looking it over I have not been getting all my protein in or drinking enough liquids. So today is a new day and I went to the pool and worked out and I will eat more protein and drink more today. My daughter baked blueberry muffins this morning and it was hard to smell them and not want just a little, Thank God she told me no, made me made mad but I got over it.lol

    A small infection

Keep soaking it several times a day and using a bandaid with antibiotic ointment. Try to see you doc early in the week, that way if it is infected you will be on antibiotics for long enough pre-op for it to probably be a non issue. Good luck, Mimi
  22. I see my doctor tomorrow for my history and physical. Then I get a surgery date! Yayy! I threw my phone a week ago cause I was fighting with my husband. Anyway.... I know have fitness pal and would love to add whomever would let me add them. Scoot over on the losers bench I am on my wayyyyyy! Thanks in advance.
  23. Well i made it through surgery and am now at home. I feel very blessed that my surgery was relatively pain free. No pain from the incisions and no gas pain at all. I have not had to take any pain medication. I'm struggling a little getting my liquid and Protein in. I'm using Isopure for that. I can only take it in small doses. I was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. I slept a little bit in my bed last night but after about three hours I got up and switched to my La-Z-Boy recliner and had a very nice sleep until 7 am this morning. I jumped on the treadmill and did about 10 minutes of slow walking. I'll repeat that process throughout the day. I gained 5 lbs from the IV solution in the hospital but have since dropped that weight and three pounds more. Best of luck to everyone that has had their surgery or is about to have surgery. Dallas
  24. Good day to all of you! I saw my surgeon for the first time FINALLY on July 3rd after having all of my pre-surgery tests in early May. Looks like my surgery will be last week in July first week in August...so I am just "weighting" (play on words, HAH!). I weigh about 224, 5'4", and am 53 years old. Two questions: Anyone about the same who wants to "buddy" through this process? Anyone wish you had chosen the gastric bypass instead of the band? My physician has suggested that maybe I want the bypass because it is so much more successful for people my age.:tt2: Thanks, in advance, for any feedback, especially from the fabulous fifities people.
  25. This is a question I have to present to my cardiologist but thought I'd ask here as well and learn of your experiences. Since most/all/many blood thinners have to be taken with food (to lessen the chance of a stomach bleed per doc) what did you do on the full liquid stages before and after surgery? I was wondering if taking the meds after a Meal Replacement will suffice? My husband was on blood thinner and had three stomach bleeds so I am very concerned about this.
