  1. I just had revision surgery on 1/30, band to sleeve! I had it all in one surgery as well as a hiatal hernia repair! I was under for about 3 hours! All went well! When I asked my Dr why Drs sometimes do it in separate surgeries he had 2 answers, first of all it depends on the pt and comorbities, how long can someone tolerate anesthesia ? Since just having sleeve surgery you are under for about 1 1/2 hrs! The second answer was interesting he said if he did in 2 surgeries he would make more $$$ which is so true ! Also in addition the pt has to take 2 separate LOAs if working! So in the end I would look for a surgeon who did it all in one surgery! good luck

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Katy - I had the same trouble with my ticker. Alex had to help me get it into my signature block. I was following all the directions, using the correct "BB" code, but kept getting an "invalid file" response. Once he fixed it for me I've been able to revise it and bring it back in with no trouble. For pictures in your note - I clicked on the "go advanced" button in the quick reply screen. It gave me the option to attach files (under "additional options"), "manage attachments" - then it allows you to browse your pictures and select one, then upload to the note. I hope that works for you. The picture I have uploaded is of me holding my brand new grandson - 23 months ago today. DD is in the background wanting him back... (I sure hope this worked! When I previewed the post I had to click on the link to see the pic...)

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi there, Thanks for trying to find it for me. I looked at all the pictures at those sites and none of them looked like the one that I have. It's hard to tell from a picture though. The sides are made out of this really light weight material that is really comfortable. It seems like Warner's must have come out with a new "Friday Bra" As far as revision goes, I am doing great. I am going back to work tomorrow. I feel fine. I am a little bit hungry some of the time. I am not supposed to feel hunger, but being on Clear liquids for 10 days is going to be harder than I thought. My stomach just aches sometimes because it just feels so empty. I just called the doctor's office to ask if I could move to Protein shakes.

    All of my December sleevers...

I had to share...I hit 100 pounds today from my pre-band weight. I'm down 78 from my sleeve on 12/17/13. For those of you whose doctors say revisions don't do as well as "virgin" sleevers...I say, heck NO! I still have a ways to go, but I'm still losing it!

Mini, Well if I still had Kaiser it would have covered the revision to sleeve or fix my band, But We found out on Sept 23rd that it has slipped up my esphogus (sp) and On Oct 1st my husbnads compnay switched insurance providers and no longer even offers Kaiser. So I now have Aetna, and have just gotten an Appt to see a primary Dr so that I can get a referal to a bariatric surgeon hopefully. the paperwork I recieved and when I call CS they all say it depends on the circumstance if they will cover it.... So its a wait and see game right now...... WOW for your Dr to tell you you have to regain to be covered is just plain crazy, Sheesh dont they relize what we go thru and then to tell us to regain, Phhhhfft.
  10. Thanks so much for all your replies. I did try the phentermine but that didn’t work because I mainly snack at night and it wears off before then. And unfortunately with my other meds that’s the only one I was able to try so now she has me trying sleeping pills thinking if I can sleep through the night I won’t get up and snack but I think I need a stronger MG cause they don’t work. Another dr told me I can try taking like one and a half but I haven’t tried it yet cause I also read that it’s not good to take this medicine every night so I want to talk to her about that. I talked to a surgeon and he was very surprised that I am able to eat a whole 6 inch sandwich now at only two years out. That was his way of knowing how much my stomach can hold I guess was to ask how many inches of that I could eat if we went to a sandwich shop. I told him that I have been able to eat more than expected at every given stage from day one but when the hunger was gone I was able to eat what I was expected to. But after hunger returned it’s like I had no help without the restriction. I definitely couldn’t get my moneys worth at an all you can eat buffet anymore after surgery BUT, I could eat a normal serving pretty early out if I chose to. He said that I definitely need a smaller pouch which they can do with the bypass so that sounded promising that maybe it could be different?? I just wonder if like others have mentioned if all or part of the work needs to be done in my head. I am by no means opposed to trying therapy. I keep trying to find a therapist and even put a call in to see if the surgeon has any pull with one because in my area they are just not accepting new patients other than for the evaluations for surgery. He’s hasn’t called back yet but I am getting another opinion about whether going with bypass will be okay with my psyc meds since they advised against it the first time around so I will also ask him if he knows anyone that he can get me into. i have read on here that the revision weight loss is slower. I forgot about that. I hope it will still be as much though if I’m patient. I guess I am wondering if my hunger will go away the second time?? I just don’t want to yo yo down then right back up again like I did this time. I already know I sorta let everyone else down along with myself that was rooting me on and it has been very embarrassing to publicly fail at this. I almost think it would be easier to stay heavy than to fail at this again.

Manatee---I'm not a May 2007 bandster, but I chased you down here. Have you made any posts about your slippage ? I'm interested in reading about your experience--like how you knew it had happened and the process you went through that led you to a revision. If you have a link to any threads, I would love to read about it. By the way....you really look awesome. I just can't believe you want to lose another 10--where will it come from????

    All of my December sleevers...

Sleeved 12/17, and was a lap band revision. Down from 261.5 to 220. Bought a pair of size 18 pants today! First new clothes, but my best friend threatened to rip my baggy butt pants off me in public. Was a nice fight to have! Does anyone else get shaky after their first calories of the day? It's like my heart is pounding really hard. No gas or diarrhea, just the shakes. Doesn't seem to matter what I eat first (tuna, protein shake, cream of wheat, etc.). Any advice?

    October sleevers?

You can do this! I'm on day 10 of my pre op diet and if I can get through this without a "cheat", you sure can! I also a revision patient.Just keep reminding yourself that it's not worth it. You want to set yourself up for success and you don't succeed if you start out by finding ways to sneak around the rules. It hasn't been easy, but when my stomach is growling, I remember why I am doing it. Drinking lots of extra fluids help fool an empty stomach too. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App thank you @! Yes, that's what I'm focusing on...the end result. I've already awakened once "sleeveless" because the surgeon felt my scar tissue was too excessive to get around. He told me to wait a year or two for new techniques to become available. I was beyond devastated! So, this go round will be by the "book" to the best of my ability... Thanks for the good wishes. Heading to get my Protein Shake now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Agreed! I have GERD and was told stay away from the sleeve. Look into this site lots of people get their sleeve revised to bypass due to acid reflux. I left my first surgeon’s office because of this. He only does sleeves and I quickly left lol

    Headache after eating fried food

    Did you get a revision?
  16. Good afternoon, everyone. I'm new here. I was looking for some kind of forum where I could interact with others like me. I think I may have found it. I live in South Texas, and I had a sleeve gastrectomy in Mexico in 2009 when I was 35. I initially weighed 340 lbs and lost 149 lbs. and went from a size 32 to a size 14. My goal was a 12, but I was really happy. I was exercising 5x a week on the elliptical for a whole hour nonstop! I kept the weight off for approximately 6 years. Unfortunately, all kinds of tragic events started changing my life. In 2014 my father passed away, and I took it really, really hard. I ended up on Xanax and Ambien. In 2015, I got divorced. In 2016, my mother passed away. In 2017, I was transferred from a job I really enjoyed to a brand new location with all different people to work with. Then the COVID Pandemic kept me teaching from home for a year and a half. It was literally one heartbreak after another. Rather than looking for actual help, I helped myself... to pills, alcohol, and crap food. Over the past 9 years, I regained all my weight. Even though I still felt restriction in eating (i.e. only half a burger or 1.5 slices of pizza, with no sides or drinks and I was done). I was 10 lbs away from my original weight before my sleeve. Last year, though, my school district sent out an email stating that WLS was now covered by our insurance. I was so excited! I looked into it, made many calls, and thought coverage was out of the question because I had already had a surgery. Our insurance covers "one surgery per life." However, since my first surgery was private pay, they went ahead and accepted covering my revision to a bypass. Today is my 18th day post op. I've lost 42 lbs altogether since May 11, but only 10 of those lbs since the surgery. I feel a little blue because I was hoping for more than a 10lb loss in 3 weeks. I lost more weight at the beginning when I started a semi-liquid diet to prepare for surgery. I was doing 3 shakes and one solid, no-carb meal. I know that revisions are slower than virgin surgeries. I am doing as much reading and research as I can. I just can't help it, I guess. After my sleeve, the weight loss was phenomenal. Right now I am consuming 450 cals, 60 g protein, and keeping my carbs under 40g. I am walking around my house (not outside because South Texas) 4x a day and was told I could start on the treadmill this coming Monday. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'm also trying to find ways to consume fiber without a lot of carbs. I've eaten 1/2 cup of pinto beans twice but, man, that's a lot of carbs. I wanted to try raspberries, but I'm afraid of the little seeds getting stuck in my sutures. Any advice, thoughts, suggestions?
  17. I also has the sleeve done 3/2015, lost 155 and gained back 40. I went back to my Dr because of gerd and no restrictions when eating since 3 months post op. I have cigna, they approved and I am now waiting on the dr office to schedule the surgery. I would love to find out what the average weight loss is for sleeve to bypass revision....

    No weight loss

I'm 10 wks out from a band revision. I lost 18 lbs (I started at 174 so I knew Id lose slower) 5he first 6 wks. Haven't lost a lb in 4 wks. I'm traveling now visiting family in a different state. Guess I'm using that as an excuse to eat crap. Not very much crap, but crap nonetheless. My sleeve tolerates everything but ice cream (including burgers, fries, corndogs {went to the fair} and Cookies. Haven't tried pizza yet bbut I'm sure it'll go down just fine). I wish my sleeve would reject all of these things and make the right choices for me but alas, I've figured out I have to make the decisions for my sleeve, not the other way around. I'm happy I can only eat 1/3 of an In and Out Burger, maybe 6 fries, maybe 1/3 of a corndog. Otherwise Id be gaining all I lost back. Hopefully when I get back home and all becomes normal again I will make better choices. At least I'm hoping...
  19. Before surgery, I felt like dieting was the equivalent of holding my breath. I could do it for a while, I could see super success, but eventually I had to breathe! I couldn't hold up the massive amount of will power necessary to continue on a path to a healthy life. It was like contending with an insatiable monster in my tummy who was always hungry and always in control of my thoughts and actions. I felt like I could not win no matter how hard I tried, and each attempt I made to over throw the monster left me weaker and fatter and sicker until I weighed 474 lbs and suffered from diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. It's been a little over a year and I weigh 265 now and I lose about 10 lbs a month still. I've lost the percentage that is normal, but I plan to continue losing. Sure, my dream is to make it all the way to 160, but this surgery was enormously successful already! Even if don't lose another pound. My diabetes is in remission, my hypertension is gone, my cholesterol is low, I don't take any meds, but the most amazing part is--THE MONSTER IS DEAD! When I eat, it feels like a choice I make for myself and that feeling is soo good, so incredible to me. I know if I'm careless, I could let the monster back in. That's a scary prospect that pops in my mind from time to time, but presently, the surgery helped me to overcome something I just could not do on my own. As you think about your own decision to proceed with surgery, consider not only what it can do for you right now, but what it may help you prevent for your future self. Sure, it's possible you might not get to your goal weight and/or maintain it for life, but you may never see yourself get bigger than you are now. You may prevent future health problems, and it will absolutely give you a stronger shot at success that you might not be able to achieve on your own volition. This is a big, big decision and goodness knows, I had major problems with my sleeve that resulted in terrible stent experience and ultimately a revision which I just had done, but I would do it all again knowing all that I know now. Very worth it! Consider that the the average weight loss for "most" is with little effort and happens in the first 6 months after surgery. If you are willing to risk the surgery and put in effort through diet change and exercise, you WILL reach your goals and be happy. Cheers!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi all...I'd like to find a link to enter my weight loss into...such as a graph I've seen on other posts. Can't seem to come up with my own in Excel since I'm not a wiz at it. Anyone know where to find a good template? Hit a 3-month pleateau over the winter, but weights moving again...(signature has not been revised...down 47 lbs as of this morning...kept track of everything on fitday.com for a couple of weeks. Really seemed to help discuss the slump with Dr. Snacking was up on carbs..no bread, but other...one more fill to make 16, now 3.3 in my band. We'll see if this makes all the difference! I swear in the cold months our bodies hold on to every ounce of fat like chipmunks! Thanks!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

HI, I used Dr. Alexandro Cardenas in Monterrey. You can get in contact with him through Ready4Achange.com. I had a full face and neck lift with tweaks on my lips and ears. I had brachioplasty also. I paid around 7000 or so for all of it, it was a bit more but I can't remember exactly how much. I do know that his office staff will negotiate prices with you and he told me himself that the ears can be done as a part of the facelift without extra charge but the office staff charged me extra. We had a discussion about that and he ended up giving me a price break on the fat in my lips and face. So make sure you negotiate what ever before you go down there then if their are additional proceedures you want you will be sitting on your lowest price for the main work and negotiate the add ons. They take very good care of you. They have a driver that will get you back and forth to apts. but i think that he charges extra when he can. The nursing staff there is very welll trained. I met one who spoke perfect english as does the office manager. Dr Cardenas speaks excellent english and Dr Lozano who is the anesthesiologist went to high school in Houston and speaks perfect english with a southern accent to boot. The required stay for face lift is 10 days post. I stayed in the clinic one night and the hotel the rest. I hired a sitter through them named Angela who will act as your driver if you hire her. She is also a great nurse and tour guide. She charges $100 for 24 hours and $50 for a 12 hour shift. She does not speak much english but understands it quiet well. She is working on speaking it. She does not have a degree in nursing but gives excellent care for plastic surgery. I cannot say enough good things about Angela, she is skilled, smart and funny. So we had a lot in common. I have included her pics and the staffs pics in my plastic surgery album. You will want her services for the first couple of days unless you have someone who is a nurse accompany you. Just caring family is not sufficient support for a couple of days after plastic surgery. If you know anyone who needs banding the have a wonderful bariatric surgeon in Monterrey, Dr. Miguel Zapata. He did my rebanding. That was why I was in Mexico and had plastics there rather than in states. Although plastics are cheaper there, the cost of transportation, room and board and meals have to be factored in. I guess it just depends entirely on how it all stacks up in comparison to what you would pay in the states. I am not 100% satisfied with the work on my forehead. He was a bit conservative there and I am not crazy about the results, but he explained why he did it and we are talking about the possibility of him doing some revision next summer, but it is too early to say for sure that I will need it. Overall I love the outcome. I don't know that I would have liked the results if he had done a more drastic proceedure on my forhead. The difference in where I was and where I am now overall is amazing! I would defianately go back if I had it to do over again. Feel free to pm me if you want more specific information. If you contact ready for a change , tell Judy I reffered you. Good luck, Corliss

Does Your Band Stop Your Hunger

No with the sleeve food does not get stuck. You can eat anything you want, just not very much of it. You do get full pretty fast. I am kind of a grazer though. I get full pretty fast, but then maybe a couple hours later, I might have a healthy snack. There are some days I just don't feel like messing with food or cooking or dishes and I will have 3 Protein shakes per day and be perfectly satisfied. I didn't start having band problems until after I had the band for a couple of years. I could just see more problems coming, so I revised to the sleeve before that started happening. I am really glad I did.

    yo yo diets

Your amazing Jachut. Good for you! I can't get over your tight body! We're about the same age & I've had tt/lower body lift/revisions & 2 boob lifts & I still wobble like a huge bag of jello! It's horrible to see me run. I have to for hockey & it's not easy. I'm the same re: good or bad eating...scales stay the same. :w00t:
  25. I'm currently waiting for a phone call to schedule my surgery date. I'll be getting a revision from sleeve to bypass for severe GERD at Kaiser Richmond. Look me up on Instagram if you all want to keep in touch there. I have a personal and a WLS account, here's both: bubbz333 (personal) & vsgbubbz (WLS). I'm much more nervous about the surgery this time around so it would help to have some people to talk to that are going through the same thing.
