If you are hungry all the time you must not be getting all the Protein you need for the day. Have you had any luck with the Protein shakes, try unjury.com? Protein and Water I think is the key to staying full. If you get creative with the shakes you can have something nutritious and feel like it is dessert. The bars on dietdirect.com are also delicious. There are lots of protein added meals as well.

It's completely doable, but it's a shock to your eating habits. Protein shakes, sugar-free jello, sugar-free pudding, sugar-free popsicles, chicken broth, beef broth.

What are you eating?
katonaboat replied to PrettyGal27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on regular foods, surgery was June 12th. I'm still eating mostly protein, because once I get my protein in I don't have room for much else. For example, I made a low-carb meatloaf the other night and was able to eat 2.5 oz of meatloaf and less than a tablespoon of greenbeans. My husband had a couple of friends over to work on his boat last night (men's garage party) and I ordered pizzas. I pulled the toppings off 2 slices, but couldn't finish. My weight loss has slowed to 2-3lbs a week. It seems like those who were under orders to stay on liquids longer lose weight more quickly. I kind of wish I had been in that group, but once on solid food, I don't want to go back to full liquids! My favorite snack is a babybel cheese. I still have trouble getting my water in, but I have always struggled with fluid intake. I think I'm just not as thirsty as normal people! -
I am having a hard time with proteins....
*susan* replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Paulax, sorry, I have not been experiencing any problems with protein. I know many people suggest drinking something warm before eating. They say that seems to help. Have you tried that? -
And in some ways I feel that I am not tight enough. I haven't tried bread, but a bit of rice and a few bites of zuchinni bread hasn't bother me like I think it should. But the Proteins..... salmon or tuna with mayo - hard time............. steamed or broiled fish, salmon and halibut - hard time chicken - hard time.............. certainly beef (which I expected) - hard time................ meatloaf - hard time In fact, I might consider moving to Mexico, chili is the only thing that doesn't seem to bother me. Either that or embrace my inner vegetarian and eat tofu......... Yes, I might be taking too big of bites, and yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees I might not be chewing enough. So will watch that. Anyone else experience this?

Any issues with sustained exercise on lap band diet?
MacMadame replied to susan1961's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I don't have a band but my average calories is about 700 a day and I'm training for a triathlon. I didn't start out in wonderful shape ... I was in okay shape though ... so I am seeing dramatic improvements in my cardio workouts. I'm sure that will level off as I get to a more fit level. Anyway, make sure you get lots of Protein so you have the energy you need throughout the day and then time any carbs you ingest so they are right before and/or after your workout. Plus take your vitamins! That's the advice I'm following and it works for me. ETA I was on 500 calories at day at first and I would do cardio at the gym just fine. I was only doing 30 min about 3x a week back then though. Now I do 45 min. and 4-5 times a week. -
I think you're doing fine. Personally, I fall off the wagon about once a month (most people call it PMS) and I have an overwhelming desire to devour everything I see. Ah, thank you Lap Band for the limitations you put on my insatiable appetite! For me, the fix is to make sure I don’t surround myself by trigger foods. I buy candy, but not candy that I like enough to sit and eat an entire bag worth. I avoid carbs because for me, one carb = two carbs = three carbs and so on. I buy a lot of healthy veggies and fruits and make it a point to veg out on those as opposed to more fatty alternatives. In regards to the emotional eating, that’s more complicated. I think a big part of resolving that issue is discovering why you are eating- which emotion are you ‘overcoming’ by indulging? For me, it’s boredom. As long as I can avoid boredom, I can avoid emotional eating. What causes you to emotionally eat? Are you stressed out? Depressed? Anxious? Angry? Bored? There are other ways to address these emotions besides eating. Google has quite a few options for addressing emotional eating. Some of them have been very successful for me. Best of luck to you- keep up the excellent work J

I work out 4-5 times a week and as a result I have had to increase my calories from 1000 -1200 or 1300 on workout days and make sure before a workout I have a protein shake or omelette with salmon before breakfast, an hour before a workout. Or after a workout, sometimes a shake, banana with natural yoghurt, almonds or cottage cheese on a cracker. I can burn around 400-600 calories just from running and boy my body does need those extra calories, if not I suffer rom headaches and just too week to exercise.

Pre-op Preparation
gixxergirl replied to gixxergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so glad I didn't have to get a colonoscopy. I have sugar free jello, crystal lite, broth, instant mashed potatoes, Beneprotein, and various sugar free protein shakes in addition to the food I puréed. -
So I'm 16 days post op and onto puréed foods. Not feeling like I'm starving and believe me there's cravings for some of my "old favorites" but I've avoided them. i usually have a protein shake for bkfst, yesterday had some blended homemade cream of chicken soup for lunch and 1/3 cup egg beaters with about half a fat free cheese stick mixed in for dinner. That's it. Only about 35 oz water though so not starving but don't feel like I'm losing like I thought I would (since preop diet down bout 34 lbs which is awesome though) just don't want to do this wrong.....
-
I eat about 2.5-2.8 oz of dense protein and maybe 1/4 cup of vegetable. I don't eat corn very often. I mostly eat fresh tomatoes, squash, spinach, cauliflower. I think that comes out pretty close to what you're having.
-
i noticed that you can only have clear liquids, which would probably mean that most of the protein shakes are out. my doctor tells his patients not to worry about protein the first few days, as you likely will not have much intake anyways. once we began full liquids, then we had to start focusing on protein more. full liquids for me was 3 days post op. call you doctor for guidance, especially if you are feeling weak and lethargic, which could be an effect from the anesthesia or low blood sugar, but i would call just to be sure and see what he/she recommends.

Vickielynn--You're doing great! Think about it--That is WAY more than 1-2 lbs a week. But I do kind of understand. Do you feel more in shape and stronger though? Think about what you could do when you first started with your trainer and what you can do now. Maybe that will help you thru till you start losing again. The scale is stuck for me too and I started working out (couch to 5k program) last week to kick things up a notch. When I went in for my third fill I was telling them about it and the nurse/advisor (who is AWESOME) let me know that I may experience a plateau while my body re-adjusts to the working out but then all of the sudden start losing. She also told me to incorporate some good carbs in my diet on the days that I work out (like a piece of whole grain toast with an egg for breakfast vs just eggs) because it metabolizes faster than protein and will help me have energy etc. Do you maybe need a few more calories--like 1200 on the days you work out? As far as getting stuck--I haven't had any issues yet but I know that I have to consistantly weigh everything into a 4oz portion and then take a full 30 minutes to eat it so I have to cut REALLY small pieces to FORCE myself to eat really slow and chew alot. Otherwise I feel like I am going to puke. Especially since my 3rd fill.

I'm so HANGRY! Please help!
Apple203 replied to gkhtoys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You aren't in the last 2-week pre-op, just preparing for it, right? I am doing the same, but using my dietitian's recommendations: 1200 kcal, 20/40/40 macros. So 60 g carbs, 120 g protein. Here is how it pans out: Breakfast -- protein shake with 1 c mixed berries Snack -- 2 celery stalks, 2 T peanut butter Lunch -- 4-6 oz lean protein, salad w/ 2 T dressing Snack -- Oikos triple zero vanilla, fruit Dinner -- 4-6 oz lean protein, 1-2 c vegetables -
May 12th Surgery Stories - Terrific Tuesday!
Kellster replied to Kellster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey everyone, just wanted to give an update. I was able to walk around the block yesterday without much of a slowdown (yay!), and again - the walking makes me feel so much better and gives me energy. Some friends came over and it was great to chat and have normal conversation. And it was fun to show them my incisions and have them be grossed out, bwahahahaha. I tried to stay up as late as possible so I could sleep well, finally went to bed around 11. I got into my deliciously comfy bed with my clean soft sheets and multiple (6) pillows, lay down on my right side (port is on the left), and fell fast asleep. And I didn't wake up til this morning sometime, when I awoke laying on my back, surprised that I had slept so long. I lay there for a moment thinking, "Do I have any pain? How do I feel? How are my incisions?" I was surprised at how little pain I felt. So I rolled over on my right side again (left side is still questionable) and went back to sleep. When I woke up, I felt great! Incisions themselves are a tiny bit sore, the hematoma below my port incision is still swollen, ugly, and pretty darn tender. But my energy feels good, I can take a big deep breath (still using my incentive spirometer) without pain, and I've had some Water and Protein shake. Gonna pop in some Vitamins, since I've had some muscle cramping, etc., and go for a walk around the block. Also, I'm going to get out of the house and get a pedicure today, woohoo! I honestly think my surgeon is a miracle worker, because I feel so great and have so little gas pain and soreness. Now time to schedule a follow-up appt. -
I can't believe this really works.......

That is fantastic. I almost wanted to cry hearing your story. I remember when I could eat a big mac and everything else. Our stomachs can only hold a couple oz of protein now. Isn't it fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I hope you lose all your excess weight and feel wonderful. Good for you! Congrats. -
I'm also being banded at St. Agnes Hospital in Maryland on 2/6. I am trying my best to stick to the pre-op diet. My pre-op in low carb, high Protein until 2/5 and then Clear liquids until 48 hours post op. I have been stocking up on Atkins shakes, liquid Vitamins, liquid tylenol, and trying to narrow down my Protein Drink selection. Isopure seems to be the best option so far, but still open for new ideas. :w00t:

I will email you a bunch of recipes to get you started. I'm not sure of your cooking experience level, but most of these are easy to intermediate recipes. Some have a few ingredients you may not keep on hand, and you may not like some of the ingredients anyway. But it's a starting point. I would post them here but the post would be so long it's ridiculous! Also consider crustless quiche as a meal - I don't have a recipe on hand but I'm sure you can find one. You can add some cheese, some of that bacon or sausage you like, some easy to chew veggies and that would be a nice meal. Many of these include Beans, because that's how we got the majority of our Protein. We also treated ourselves to Quorn cutlets occasionally when we wanted to feel like we were eating meat. We also used the Morningstar products, particularly the breakfast sausage crumbles. MS products are very high in protein, so if you're lacking in that department you might try them out. I did not write any of these recipes though I did modify almost all of them to suit me. They are scavenged from a number of places. If you do make any of them, use own dietary restrictions to modify the meals (for example, you wouldn't use a hamburger bun for the black bean burgers, or a tortilla for the burritos if you were having trouble with bread/carbs). Do check Nava Atlas out - she is (in my opinion) the very best veg cookbook author out there if looking for simple and easy recipes. I hope this helps. Maybe you'll have more folks chime in soon! ~Cheri

Great job! You deserve.....a protein shake! Seriously, you have a lot to be proud of, good luck to you on your journey!

Were you sleeved in August 2013 or 2014? My main tip is to go back to basics. Weigh, measure and log food. Water load between meals. Eat Protein FIRST. Every meal, every time. Look for ways to increase activity. I have observed that when I "eat right" I have less emotional attachment to food. I sincerely believe that overeating is a combination of a physical AND emotional triggers. Sometimes - I can't quickly solve the emotional stress, but i CAN solve the way i eat which just makes everything better. When I start eating and/or drinking junky carby food my cravings go way up.

I need help with a horrible stall! Any advice to kick start things?
megansmommy123 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 7 months post op, and have lost 98 pounds. I want so badly to hit that 100 pound mark, but I just cant seem to get there. I've been bouncing the same 2 pounds back and forth since early December. I know most of it was Christmas. I ate more than I should, and ate things I shouldn't have. But for the last 2 weeks I have really been back on track, and still nothing! I got down to 1 tenth away from my goal, then will gain a pound again. I went back to the basics, and started tracking all my food intake. I am staying between 900-1100 calories per day, drinking lots of Water, at least 80 grams of Protein per day, staying under my limits for carbs and sugar. I just don't know what I am doing wrong? I know my exercise specialist said this was to be expected at this stage, and it happens to everyone. He said you wont see a loss for awhile, but you are still losing inches. And it will cycle back and forth every month. He said to only worry if I don't see a loss for 2 months in a row. But I'm getting close to that 2 month mark, and still no loss. Any ideas on how to break a massive stall? Here's my food for the last 2 days, any advice? Breakfast: 2 envelopes sugar free hot cocoa 1 dannon light and fit greek yogurt Lunch: 1/2 cup raw carrots 1/4 cup raw snap peas 1/4 cup hummus Snack: Isopure Protein shake Dinner: 4 ritz crackers 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter 1/4 cup cottage cheese Totals: Calories: 927 Carbs 32 Fat 32 Protein 93 Sugar 30 Breakfast: Sugar free Cappuccino Tomato juice Dannon light and fit greek yogurt Snack: Isopure protein shake Lunch: Grilled shrimp greek olives and feta Dinner: Grilled Mahi Mahi cooked carrots and snow peas Calories: 959 Carbs 66 Fat 23 Protein 120 Sugar 40 -

Thanks Amy. That is what is so frustrating! I really feel my food is on track. I don't normally eat crackers, it's a once in awhile treat. The only thing I can see is to cut the sugars? I am over on my sugars, but most of it comes from the 1% milk I mix in with my Protein powder. I could do better about drinking more Water. I am usually on track, but could use more. And I know I need to increase my exercise. I have a 3xweek aerobics class that starts Monday, so I've slacked the last month on exercise, knowing that class is coming up. It was just so easy the first 6 months, and now its so much more work. And nothing I do seems to make a difference. -
I like them too. I will usually put one in a bottle of Water. The CL idea is great! I will have to try that! I always have a hard time with Protein, so this is a great option for me too!

Anyone tried or heard of ZOIC protein drink?
sghatl replied to colorado.girl80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist said they were a good protein source especially after exercising and they taste pretty good too. I have picked them up in the grocery store and at Walmart.
