I'm 15 days out today and just started three week soft foods. I've been having problems getting in all of my Protein since I had surgery. Yesterday, I thought I was doing awesome but today I'm having acid reflux so much more. I'm on Previcid 30 mg which the Dr. prescribed but before the surgery I was on Prilosec 20 mg a day. I don't think the Previcid is working! Also, the last two days my left side has been hurting a lot. I thought maybe I pulled the muscle or something. It hurts really bad when I lay down. Kinda goes around from the back to the front right under the ribs on the left side. Any ideas anyone of why this is happening? I called the nurse and she is yet to call me back. I'm so surprised!! NOT! Thanks guys!

Calories to maintain post-op... Figured out maybe?
Wayne Hunt posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In a previous thread, I was bemoaning the fact (ok, whining a bit) about the fact that my nutritionist wouldn't give me a straight answer as far as how many calories (et cetera) I was supposed to be sticking to post-surgery in order to lose weight... Being the data geek that I am however, I might have been able to figure it out myself but wanted some confirmation of my thoughts. Over the past several weeks, I've been "stair stepping" my weight loss. Between 7-10 days to lose a pound or so. Fat is burned off at a typical rate of 3500 calories per pound, right? Looking over my MFP log, I seem to be consuming between 800 to 1200 calories per day, so given the idea of sitting on a 10-day plateau, running an assumed 350 calorie deficit, can I presume that my post-op "maintain weight" calorie count is somewhere between 1200 and 1300 calories? I know Protein and exercise are more important. I'm now getting my protein (between 70 to 110 grams per day) but I still have physical limitations (and mental ones too) that keep me from exercising as I should. Thoughts? Wayne -
When I was too tight, I avoided the foods that would get stuck (hard proteins) and went for the junk! I had a bit of a fill removed and now I can eat semi-normal and go for the healthier stuff. Of course, I still want and sometimes eat the junk..but not as much. Hard Proteins will give relief from the hunger pains and some of the cravings! Good luck. Shawn

Getting Your Daily Protein In - after 3-4 months Post Surgery
Jazzy1125 replied to FluffyChix's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will save this for when i am allowed to have snacks per my surgeon. For the 1st year he does not want us to have snacks at all and to get our additional protein (outside the 3 meals) from a protein supplement drink. After the 1st year, we can swap out the protein drink for protein snacks. I have been eating a lot of salmon, tuna, and ground meats. Chicken doesnt like me yet. LOL.. My issue is getting in stuff outside of protein but not too worried about that as he said to focus on water and protein, and the other stuff will come later. Thanks for the tips Fluffy! -
2 Week Post Op Full Liquid Diet Suggestions
sleeved2012 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im 8 days post op and started my full Protein diet yesterday. As of right now i can tolerate tomato Soup. I drink EAS chocolate Protein shakes to get some protein in. I have found that to get even more protein I add a scoop of chocolate Protein powder to sf chocolate carnation instant Breakfast and i cant even tell i added anything. I have been struggling to get down my liquids but not becasue i cant tolerate them but because i take in air everytime i try, even if i blow it all out first. i regret it about 2 minutes after when my chest and stomach hurt. I tried cheese soup becasue i was craving cheese badly. That didnt go over so well. After i ate it i felt gross and i had alot of gas built up. I know that everybody is different and can tolerate different things. So are there any suggestions to what else i can drink while im on my full liquids? what worked for you? what didnt work for you? -
I love the taste of this one and it says it has 60g of protein per scoop but I haven't read of anyone trying it so just wondering

Dietician gave me an assignment - almost ready to qualify
TSurran commented on TSurran's blog entry in Blog 85785
Im sorry, I dont understand this blogging and I cannot figure out how to write to you personally so my posts dont take up space on here. Yes, the one ounce cups have us a little worried - also - the non-reversible nature also has us worried. One of the reasons I chose the lapband is because it is reversible. This particular surgeon (the closest to me about two and a half hours away) is one of the first to perform this procedure and he pulls the stomach up around the band and stitches the stomach to itself. This also makes, I would guess, a tighter pocket. How in the heck, and please forgive me here, how in the heck can you fit one or one and a half cups of food into a one ounce pocket. I, myself am a vegetarian so I am going to have to eat processed protein and that makes me nervous. I will quote the doctor on this and I would like to see what you think. I would love to have your contact or a way to contact you as I said, I dont want to take up space on here for just me.....anyway the doctor said. "you will do a protein shake in the morning - 8 ounces of liquid over and hour time. You will also need once at lunch. these protein shakes cannot have milk in them. No fruit either. If you feel you are in a social setting and have to eat, you will live out of a shot glass. you fill your shot glass with protein. chicken (dark meat), beef, pork and take eraser size bites. it should take about 20 minutes to eat a one ounce cup of food" All of that made me nervous especially in social settings - I am not going to tell anyone about my surgery. I posted before asking about the one ounce portion but didnt remember it was on here. Then my dietician found this forum and thought it was a wealth of informatin from 'real' people. I just want to thank you for responding. -
Hair Loss 7 months after surgery
James Marusek replied to odanimm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein needs to be spaced out throughout the day. If you take too much protein all at once, you body will not absorb it. Here is a link to an article titled "What Kind of Deficiency Causes hair Loss?" http://www.livestrong.com/article/324565-what-kind-of-deficiency-causes-hair-loss/ A calcium deficiency is mentioned as one of the causes. It might be possible that the hair loss is due to an Iron deficiency. Calcium and iron interfere with each other and it is important to separate taking the iron 2 hours apart from taking calcium. On top of calcium supplements, one is also getting some calcium from milk products. My bloodwork showed that I was iron deficient after surgery even though I was taking the recommended iron (in Flintstone multivitamins). As a result I was required to add an iron supplement to the regiment. I decided to move all my iron to the end of the day just before I went to bed to minimize the interference. Here is another article. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/news/20060516/hair-loss-may-be-iron-deficiency Armywife79 recommended blood work to explore the cause. I agree. -
More difficult than I thought
Treadmillwalker replied to bigcdub33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At almost 8 weeks post op I'm feeling better and I have made changes to help with the head hunger. I change the TV or stand up and move during food comcommercials. Hubby doesn't eat in front of me until I've ate so that my pouch feels full. I've only had one 3 cc fill and don't feel restricted yet. I eat Protein first and track everything. It will get better. Stay strong. Had lapband surgery 10/12/16 -
Has anyone tried this protein?
_Kate_ replied to AlphaB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From what I have read and heard on the boards here from others, your body doesn't need more than 25 -30 gr of Protein at each meal. The rest is just a waste. -
It's too hot to eat soup right now in Texas. I have been making protein smoothies & Popsicles.

Protein Shakes And Fear Of Hurling
doxieville replied to billyvmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Didn't you just get out of the hospital 2 days ago? Don't worry about Protein shakes for now. Stick with Clear Liquids till you body & tummy have time to adjust. You WILL lose weight down the road. Right now your priority is to heal and adjust to your new tummy. Have you taken any stool softners? I really, really like Miralax. I just take about a teaspoon a day in 4oz of Water a day and it keeps me pretty regular. You will need to take the normal dosage of any stool softener to get going. That's IF you feel like you need to go. You may not because you haven't had much intake. Take things day by day. You really don't want to get dehydrated or you will keep being nauseous. Gentle hugs!! -

Hello, I was sleeved on Dec 5th. Congrats on your sleeve!! I am not able to down as much protein as you. I can swallow just fine, but feel like I am spending all day drinking (. Normal I know). I can now drink 4oz of water/g2 in 15 minutes. 2pz of protein in 15 minutes. I am curious if you have any pointers for getting more protein down? I had a handy post op diet log, this is helping me see what I need to consume and how frequently. Best, Sannah -
Nausea and Disgusted by Food
Jeannieob replied to VSG_lauren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found that I couldn't stomach the milk in protein shakes post sleeve. I tried 1%, non-fat, and even Lactaid (thinking I had become lactose intolerant). What worked for me was to mix my protein powder with water. Good luck with it. I think just trying different things should help. -
Nausea and Disgusted by Food
Dana825 replied to VSG_lauren's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone, I'm 2 weeks post op and I'm beginning to experience the same trouble. I'm not vomiting, but I become very nauseated with the thought of putting anything in my mouth. This started 4 days ago. I'm not able to get my meals in and over the past 5 days I've spent so much money on things that I can't consume. I am able to drink Water but that's about it. I'm feeling so disgusted and my energy is slowly fading because I'm not able to get in my Protein. I'm scheduled to see my Bariatric Coordinator on Friday and I can't wait. I'm also not able to take my Vitamins. I definitely don't know what to do. I started puree today and I could only eat 1 baby spoon of my meat. Guys my sense of smell has also intensified. The smallest odor to others seems huge to me and it makes me nauseous. I don't like the way my husband smells either OMG! He smells horrible to me and I don't even know how to tell him without hurting his feelings. This is so crazy to me right now. -

My daughter was sleeved about 7 weeks ago, first 2 weeks were not bad at all...than the nausea and came, she says she could drink liquids except for protein shakes which made her nauseous..the small amount of food that she was taking in was digesting but she had alot of musous frothy secretions that would have to come up and then basically was dry heaving, long story short this went on with several meds trying to help th enausea and reflux type symptoms and ;ast week ended up back in the hospital with her surgeon going in for a exploratoy lap and found a hiatal hernis, which he repaired, she has been home since friday and still feels nauseaous at times but the spitting constantly has subsided..she says the same as you, this is not what she wanted at all...i tell her it will get better because myse had gastric bypass in 1999 and did fine after the first month..i am just praying that her body has to heal from 2 surgeries in 7 weeks time...good luck to u hun..will pray for u as well -
Weight Loss Has Stalled WHY?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to CazzaM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone loses at different rates and stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. That said, it is critical that you get in enough Protein and Water in order to heal and for weight loss. Whether or not you use protein supplements, you still need to reach your protein target every day and get at least 64 oz. of Fluid. What does your surgeon and NUT say about your progress so far? Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
Weight Loss Has Stalled WHY?
jj7481 replied to CazzaM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much Protein do you intake a day? How much are you exercising? Protein is vital post bariatric surgery. When protein intake is not adequate the body compensates by breaking down lean body mass. As lean body mass diminishes your metabolism slows down. Everyone loses at a different rate. The more overweight you are typically the greater your loses will be for the first several months post op. Make sure to follow up with your nutritionist and/or surgeon to see what they recommend to upstart your weight loss again. -
I too will have to have my band removed--the date hasn't been scheduled but I have an appt. tomorrow to discuss my options. I also had good results in the beginning however after the 8th month started having complications. I have had several o/p tests with all of them coming back within "normal limits"-I cannot eat anything substantial so I am also now gaining weight. I wish you luck on whichever procedure you have and look forward to hearing about your outcome.

We have had a beautiful relationship for many years now. Your availablility at my local deli has been wonderful, sometimes pre-packaged and not even making me stand in line. Your ability to share the bread with lettuce & tomato is amazing. I have never met a chicken salad I loved more. Your nice big chunks of white meat, your creamy mayo dressing, that slight hint of brown sugar, the chopped onion and egg yolk .. MMMM .. there will never be another quite like you. Sadley I have just read your nutrition label and I'm afraid I will need to break things off . You just won't be accomodating to my new found lifestyle. Despite your wonderful Protein content your 420 cal. & 35 fat grams per 1/2 cup are no longer welcome in my life. We have just had our last fling .. I hope it was good for you cause MMMmm it was good for me .. I'm sure you will make some size 2 toothpick who can afford to have a relationship with you very happy. I'm afraid I'm just not her. So I'm in the market for a new chicken salad or recipie .. any suggestions???
