    How Much Did You Lose?

I was on a 7 day required full liquid pre op diet to shrink the liver before surgery. I lost 8lbs in that week prior to surgery.
  3. My process went faster than normal. I attended orientation March 1 and had surgery April 23. During those few weeks, I squeezed in the mental health appointments (2), NUT appointment, and pre-op diet. It helped that I was already at "goal weight" when I met with the surgeon! I used that info to get in earlier to see MH and NUT. They all worked to get me in FAST!
  4. Hi, Anyone out there at the 6 month mark??? I have alot of questions. I have 4.5 ccs in my 10 cc band. My weight loss has slowed down drastically. I went to the doctor and I only lost a half a pound in 5 weeks. I have noticed my food intake has gotten to be a lot more. I am not sure if I Stretched out my top pouch. how do you know if you do stretch it. will you feel it? And if it is stretched can it go back to normal. I know they said that the weight loss will slow down, but I didnt think this slow. Anyone having the same issue? Angie

When To Get Serious About This Post-Op?

Guys: I think take it easy means slow down and begin the process of learning. This is not a quick fix nor a short journey. You didnt develop the old habits overninght and youo are not going to get new ones in just a few weeks. 2 years post banding and I am still just beginning to learn about myself and what it takes to make such radical changes. I very much agree with Jack. I was not filled for the first time until about 6 months in. I still have never felt the restriction a lot of people talk about but I HAVE lost 130 + Lbs. The band is a tool. You will hear that over and over and its SOOO very true. Learning to use it to the best advantage takes time and dedication. Take it easy and good luck :-)

    Previous blood clot

Not necessarily. I had a DVT about 8 years ago, I was sleeved 3 weeks ago. They put you on blood thinners before during and after surgery. I received heparin shots for 2 days after surgery. VSG date: 11/22/16 HW: 225. SW:222. CW: 206
  7. Hi I was banded by Dr Ren.... she spent a lot of time with me in the beginning consult, and came in to see me before and after the surgery. After the surgery - I thought I made an appt with her for the 1 week post op but apparently not - I saw Frank; then I DID make my first fill appt w/ her (there is usually a wait so you can't get any of the surgeons on a week's notice)... but then I screwed up and got the date wrong so they were great and squeezed me in w/ Gaspar, but then i was too tight so Frank unfilled me. AFTER this I had questions for the Dr and I called the office and spoke to Christina the nurse and she did go and ask Dr Ren my questions and came back to me. The office told me dr ren likes to do the first fill..... I'll see her for the second fill. In any case I find the staff very accessible via emails - nurses, nilsa who schedules the surgeries, nutritionists etc. My internist recommended NYU and Dr Ren - they are known for their excellent aftercare. And I have to say everything knock wood went without a hitch - my recovery was quick, i had little pain - I was back to work in 4 days, the day of surgery i was alert and walking fine, no nausea, it was a great process for me and I have to think part of this has to do with the skill of the surgeon and the surgical team. And I do mean team - my friend who came with me was impressed she said I had a whole team assigned to me and they were all outside my door talking about me. I must have met 10 people the day of the surgery each had a role  Also if you do the surgery there and they are still doing the anti nausea med research for the surgery I recommend it (aloxi OR aloxi w/ dexamethasone - not sure which i got). I had zero nausea whatsover from the anesthesia and never was dizzy or anything I think it had to do w/ this trial drug they gave me. I had a HORRIBLE experience w/ broken nose surgery from the anesthesia so i jumped on the trial anything to not relive that. I am happy with the practice.... it IS very busy though.

    new bandster

Unlike you, I had no fear progressing in my diet! I was literally starving on liquids only. However, I had to stay on liquids for 4 weeks. Those first bites of mashed potatoes were heaven. And the refried Beans? Like they were waiting for me their entire life! And the yogurt....need I go on? Part of being banded is trying new things to see what you can tolerate. This is one of those times you have to be open minded and move on from what you're comfortable in. Start really slowly, with maybe 6 little bites, then stop. Next meal, add another bite. 1 can of tomato Soup lasted me 5 meals a day. And a cup of mashed potatoes lasted about 4 meals also. Are you scared it will hurt or that you'll gain what you've lost back? Marci

    I love my band!

There seems to be more and more evidence that obese people have a defective "switch" that lets us know when we've had enough food -- kind of like a faulty thermostat. Some of us have inherited it and some of ours may have gone haywire for a variety of reasons. With obesity becoming more and more of a problem, medical researchers are now finally looking for a cause instead of blaming the victims. I've had the same feeling as you, that NOW my switch is working. It feels wonderful to stop eating and notice that I'm often the first one finished! I had lunch today with a petite, normal-weight friend of mine at our favorite Chinese restaurant. I had Kung-Pao chicken with no rice and a small eggroll. She had pepper steak with steamed rice and an eggroll. I ate about three-fourths of my entree, no more than a cup of food. She ate every bit on her plate, as I would have before my band. But I didn't feel deprived and hours later, I'm still quite satisfied. Thanks for starting this thread and giving us a chance to share our joy!
  10. You've lost 40 pounds in four weeks and improved your eating habits. Take some deep breaths and ENJOY the journey.

    Living with gas

If they fill your body cavity with gas, how does it get into your intestinal tract? I'm just curious how that actually works. It's not like they fill your stomach and intestines with gas, right? My understanding of things, is this...you have a shortened length from food entering and exiting. Hence the extra gas coming much sooner after eating a meal. In my case, I have an even shorter distance for it to travel, since I'm missing a foot of colon as well, from a previous colon resection. So, when I eat...20 - 30 minutes later, I'm heading to the bathroom. If it doesn't improve, they want me to see a G.I. Dr. soon. I've had diarrhea ever since the surgery (6 weeks ago). Negative for C Diff. They tested me for that. I think it's best if you are having issues, and it's bad, let your bariatric team know. It might be a food allergy you didn't have, or an intolerance to something you didn't have before. Or they might be able to prescribe something to help.
  12. Seasoned sleevers, what was your weight loss like? I have read several posts where people have talked about slow weight loss after revision. I know our metabolisms are slower already since we had the band, but I haven't really lost any weight in the last week or so, just 3 was post op. Just curious as to others experiences.... Also, I noticed a bump under one portion of my incision where they removed my port. Last week, the entire incision was a little hard, now it is just at one end. Did anyone experience this? How long until it went away?

3 wks post op - very low energy

I would work on increasing your Protein a little. Are you getting plenty of fluids? By about day 4 I was able to drink 3 protein drinks and get all my fluids in, and really felt the difference. I think it just affects us all differently. The lingering tiredness is common... get plenty of rest, your body is still recovering and telling you it needs that restorative sleep time. I think 2-3 weeks seems common until the energy levels come back.
  14. Thanks Monica for you reply and well wishes. My niece sells Avocare products and gets them at a 40% discount. That is what my doctor recommended so I went ahead and bought some. It is the only thing I have tasted and it really taste pretty good blended with ice so its really cold. Can I ask why you are in doubt about having the surgery? Today I have read to much I think! Im freaking out now because of some of the horror stories some folks have posted. lol My anxiety is high enough on it own with out reading some of the stuff. Sometime I think to much information is bad! I go see my doctor next week for pre op. I have a list of questions for him now. Thanks again for your reply.

    Protein Frustration

I am not sure how to you could get protein in during the liquid phase without using Protein Shakes. You really need to try one that you can handle for a few weeks.

    OMG The stomach pain!

I had stomach spasms the first few days when drinking - it hurt like a beast. I'm 2 weeks out and it's pretty much stopped, but when I do feel it, it's nowhere near as bad. Playing around with the temperature of your liquids might help - room temperature was all I could handle the first few days. Someone on here mentioned being put on something for it, but I don't remember who or what. Def. follow up with your surgeon, if that's really all it is they might be able to help! Hope you're feeling better soon!

    Your Opinions/Advice/

If you're trying to decide between weight loss surgeries, I'd suggest going to a seminar (or two, or three!) and getting some info that way. It may just lead to more questions, but is a good start. They want you to exercise, to be healthy, WLS or no. That's not something unique to the lap band.

    congrat's for having big mouth

Better to be blabby than flabby.... Me? I'm crabby. Five days til surgery. Yikes! Now I think I have PMS. Husband driving me crazy, and my mother, and the dogs, and my work. Oh dear. I don't want my period next week.

    My weight loss journey

20 lbs over 3 months is 1.6 pounds a week. That's pretty good weight loss. If you weren't losing anything or gaining weight you could be concerned. My suggestion is to track everything you put in your mouth... Use the App MyFitnessPal and make sure you're around the calorie intake that your nutritionist has set for you. Otherwise, 20 pounds in 3 months is decent weight loss for someone. Lastly, as I've found, there's time when you will slow down and not lose for a week or two at at time. With the sleeve, this is exactly the way things go and are expected as your body adjusts to the new stomach you have. Gary

  22. Yes and yes. At day 4 the surgical pain in my case subsided 50%. At week 3 the BM thing is still a mistery. I go for days without one. But at day 3 would would suggest to never trust a fart. You just dont know what might happen.
  23. Three days post op unable to find a good position to sit or sleep in. haven't passed stool yet @@ssbills i had the same issues with sleeping/sitting (i think many/most of us do ) i always sleep on my side - can't sleep on my back i placed a pillow or two in a "safe/careful" spot on my side, and got SOME sleep the first few nights at home within a 2 week period it sllllllowly got better each night, til i was back to "NORMAL" gotta work thru the pain/discomfort as with everything else in sleeveland, this issue will pass so will your BM situation/problem!!! sorry, couldn't resist!!! bowel movements, constipation, diarrhea are a common/frequent problem here on the board as with everything else "we are all different" - i was very lucky, no problems give it a week, hopefully things will "move along" since you didn't mention otherwise, hopefully other things are ok wishing you continued speedy recovery sweet dreams kathy
  24. Three weeks out and sleeping back to normal. I slept on my side with a pillow and hated it. Hate sleeping on my back and side. Am so happy to be sleeping on my tummy again. So comfy. Was surprised how quickly pain changed turning over. Am grateful to be at this stage already
