    Fatigue

Yes, I’m almost at 4 weeks and I’m tired too. Just less energy which I’m trying to make it look like I’m cool and low key at work. I have increased my protein intake, but I put on pajamas when I get home. I think it’s normal because we’re still healing. I feel like I’m 80% there and getting better. I’m enjoying the weight loss and no hunger!
  2. Excited to be here. I have, off-and-on, read many posts from this site. My only concern is my slow weight loss; I have lost only 26 pounds in 1 month and 3 weeks; which I lost most of it on diet protein drinks. My first fill was last month and the surgeon put in 5cc; never told me if any was in, like some have had during surgery. Basically, I count all my calories and have staye at 900 approximately daily....except for like two days of going off the diet. Because I am self pay....it feels like I could have just gone on protein drinks and more liquids to lose what I have so far. Consequently, I am not convinced that this was the right decision. Any ideas for scar help???....my main one is ugly, three inches and spread out a little....still reddish looking. However, I FEEL blesse to be on a better path in life AND look forward to my future with Hope and happiness that I can finally run after my new grandkids! Love to all of you from Arizona!

    So exhausted

Hello? You had surgery four weeks ago, and again one week ago...why the blazes WOULDN'T you be exhausted?? It's your body's way of taking care of itself and garnering it's strength for healing. Let it do it's job. Consume all your Protein, take your Vitamins, get some liquid Iron (seriously works - i'm anemic too!) and take walks, but really--REST! That's my two cents worth anyway. I think we figure we should be all healed up when we get released from the hospital, but it does take time. You'll get there. Absolutely!

    Stall again!

I feel like I'm stalled more often than not. I'm 6 weeks post op and down 23 lbs from day of surgery, which by most people's standards would be great! But I had such a huge weight loss my first two weeks that now I'm like "Well, this is my life now, I'm stuck here forever". I've been trying to be really active this week and everything that has gone in my mouth has been some form of protein so we'll see what the scale says when I weigh in with my doctor tomorrow!

    Unjury protein shakes

I love the unjury shakes - for me they are the best option for quality and taste. I would caution you from over-purchasing prior to surgery - for some, their tastes change and they can't tolerate a shake that they liked prior to surgery. The chicken soup was absolutely a savior when I grew tired of the sweet shakes. I didn't use the unflavored other than out of the sample pack.
  7. I've been stuck at 260-265 for several months now, and it's getting very discouraging. I think I know what the problem is, but I'm not sure how to address it. I eat a good Breakfast of protein-boosted oatmeal, a mid-morning snack of fruit and low-fat cheese, and a late lunch of boiled eggs and raw unsalted vegetables. By this point I'm at about 1000 calories for the day and 70g of Protein. dinner is where I run into issues. First, I'm usually dog-tired by the time I get off work and often don't feel motivated to prepare something suitable, and second, my wife will have not eaten much all day, and is ready for a "real" dinner. I cook, she does not, to clarify. I've been so discouraged that too often I just say "eff it" and get some tacos on the way home or something else equally terrible, or I cook something quick but unsatisfying and relatively unhealthy, so I wind up cruising the cupboards for Snacks later on. And, unfortunately, the longer I go without progress, the more I start saying "eff it", which has been creeping into my days at work, as well, in the form of inappropriate snacks from the cafeteria. I try to rein myself in and eat healthier for a time, but my mood yoyos and I make no real progress. I don't think that my healthy eating is lacking in any way, I can eat properly and be satisfied, it's not a hunger issue (I think). It's a motivation thing, saying "eff it", and getting that damned cinnamon roll in the cafeteria or the easy sack of tacos, because...I don't know why. I think I'm rambling at this point. Procedure was August 2015, 7 months ago.
  8. How much oatmeal are you eating in the morning? I aim for 1000 calories per day, and well over 100 grams of Protein in that 1000 calories. Seems like even your healthy food choices are a bit high on the carb side. What about boiled eggs for breakfast and a Protein Drink for a snack mid am. Try for some sort of meat for lunch like leftover chicken from the night before (hint hint). I know how it is to be tired after work, and the thought of cooking can be overwehlming. I used to make most of my dinners on Sunday night. I would buy everything (meats) on Sunday afternoon and grill it up that night. I would make ground turkey Chilie and that would last for a few days. You can get some pretty good frozen or fresh veggies that you can nuke pretty quickly to go with the protein. You know you have to give up the junk food to move on. So need to lecture you on that. I would really try upping your protein intake at all of your meals and Snacks. Also how much Water are you getting. More water may help with your hunger. Are you getting any exercise? Just trying to work that in a couple of days a week could get you somewhat motivated. I used to go every day at 5 am before work. It was hard getting up for about a month, but then it just became a routine. If you get re-motivated and start following the rules again you should loose weight. Hopefully that would be enough motivation to continue. Did you see your Surgeon for a 6 mos check-up? Maybe s/he can give you some ideas to get back on track as well.

Not losing yet and still hungry

I understand the frustration you are feeling...I was banded Sept. 18th and have only lost 30lbs. I know for me, in the beginning after surgery, you can pretty much eat whatever you want because you have nothing in your band yet. But after you get a fill, you will feel more restricted. I didn't actually start to feel 'restricted' until after my 2nd fill, but they do it slowly so your body has time to adjust to your new way of eating. I've got 6cc's in my band (it's a 10cc band) and I've had 3 fills. The advice I was given was to up your protein (you should have 60-80 grams a day) and always eat your protein first so you'll get fuller quicker...then eat your veggies if you still feel hungry. And also keep a journal on what you are eating. I started one today so that I can track my water, calories and protein. I've also upped my exercising (which I really just started here recently). Good luck to you and try not to feel too down about it...after all at least you lost 2 lbs and not gained 2 lbs. That's the way I've had to look at my weight loss...had I not had the surgery, I'm sure I would still be as big as I was if not bigger. But now, I even lost weight thru the holidays which I've never done before. Keep it up girl, I know you can do it...Heck, we both can!!!
  10. I have 4 boys ... a 6yo, a 4yo, and 2yo identical twins. They aren't really worried about the surgery. I have had a couple surgeries in the past few years. We told them that daddy is having surgery to help him lose weight and be more healthy so that I can go on bike rides with them and get down on the floor and play with them. It didn't hurt that I also told them that I was taking them to Disney World next summer after I had my surgery and lose a bunch of weight. This has actually been a good thing, because they are already holding me accountable. My 6yo and 4yo are constantly watching what I eat. If I take a bite of a non-Protein item before my protein is gone, they are quick to point it out. It is pretty funny. Honesty is the best policy. Don't try to sugar coat it or hide it from them, they can sense it and it makes things worse. -Pete

    2 weeks post op

Everything was too sweet to me,too. Couldn't do my chewable Vitamins. Had to switch to capsules. I was diluting my Protein drinks with extra milk or Water. Had to dilute any crystal-light or Lifewater type drinks 1/2 and 1/2. Added unflavored Protein powder to every broth and diluted/strained cream Soup I could find. Drank a lot of decaf herbal teas. Taste buds returned to normal about 3-4 months out.
  12. Is it possible that I'm stretching my pouch? I accidentally sipped around 27-30 oz in about a two hour time period... I'm 7 days out post opp... Today I've had 2 protein drinks (20oz water total) 37 ounces of water 1/2 cup Greek oikos. I'm trying to eat a 1/4 cup soup but Its not happening. It's 4:49. I drank the water between 2-4

    Puree foods

Too late, but it was suggested to me to buy your favorite frozen food meal from grocery store, add unflavored Protein mix and puree it. I bought deli spaghetti (caused insufferable heartburn), meatloaf, clam chowder Soup and others. I borrowed my mother's stick blender immersion thingy. Added unflavored Protein mix to all of it. And Pudding! Add protein mix to it! Awesome! Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

5 months in and only 33lbs

You get really bad heart burn and you feel sick and nauseous and the only relieve is throwing up. When I eat certain protein I get heartburn but I know I need that sometimes it is a challenge though
  15. I'm 7 days post op and what I would give to be able to drink water the way I want to. I'm so full on my water, I find it hard to have my 3 meals and being there only 1/4 to 1/2cup meals. I work more on my protein shakes (4oz) one in am & pm. Yesterday I was able to eat 1/4 c watered down grits and it was good. Just thinking of mash potatoes makes me full.lol Best to you all and yes, follow your given diets!

    Spring Is Almost Here

Suzanne, Thanks for sharing. You inspire me! At just .1 lb to goal, maintenance and avoiding weight regain is on my mind. I have been snacking some, but slowly still losing, so I hope to be able continue with about the same amount/types of foods in maintenance. I do exercise 5-6 days per week, get in my Protein and fluids and include healthy dairy, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains in my diet. And I follow the Vitamin regimen recommended by Kaiser Fremont. I hope I am as successful as you in maintenance! Lynda
  17. I am almost 2 weeks post op doing ok but the odor of protien is everywhere.... the food, my pee, my breath...everything. I use unjury and I cannot really taste it but oh can I smell it.... Do you every get used to it? It is kind of nauseating? thanks, Zima

    Maintenance

It's ok to have a freak out moment. Maintaining and eating more calories is a whole new mind set. Your surgery restriction is still good at 6/7 months out. Your restriction may feel less after your first year. Check with your dietician and see if they would approve liquid sources. I drink liquid carbs to increase my intake for distance running. look into body building weight gain/muscle mass protein shakes. The macros are much different than bariatric shakes. (Read the nutrition fact labels)
  19. Met my surgeon this morning and followed it up with a day of pre-op work, blood, EKG & x-rays. I was there ALL day. Tomorrow is cardio clearance and Dietician meeting. Getting so close... Got my liver shrink info to, it doesn't seem to bad: Protein drinks breakfast and lunch, 3 snacks (small fruit) and 3oz of lean meat with veggies and a carb. It all begins February 25th.

    Sugar free ice cream?

I think I never saw ice cream in the store with more than 1-2 grams of protein, but there's a chance you will not be craving sweet treats that much post op. I know I don't. Some foods I eat now don't have high count of protein, like cracker I have with tuna or piece of melon for dessert. I think main problem with ice cream is the consistency, you don't feel full after having it but your body still consumes the calories from carbs
  21. caymanbandit

    Well here goes.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. My problem is I live in the Cayman Islands so there is no up the street option. No matter where I go the flight cost is going to be high so it is kind of tough.

    Greek Yogurt

Every Greek yogurt I found is loaded with sugars. Even the light ones. How or where can I find any with low sugar and high protein?

    Losing the weight

There are a lot of things to consider when you ask why? You have to remember your body is in the healing stage and needs and that can take time. Are you getting out and exercising? How much water are you drinking? How much protein are you getting? How many calories are you getting in a day? Your tom will also effect weight loss. I could go on but I am sure you get the idea. Don't be hard on yourself it will happen
