So this weekend didn't go as well as I hoped for in terms of dieting//working out. Saturday would have been day 2 for my diet & working out for my pre-op diet but I woke up with a really sore throat that morning & I couldn't really get out of bed until I had to for work. I worked late that night and then had to drive back to my parents house to start my winter break from college! Yesterday I was still not feeling the greatest so there wasn't alot of exercising on Saturday & Sunday besides work but I did pretty good with the eating part, I was definitely reasonable with the choices I made so that's a plus in all this. So today I woke up feeling much better so I started again on my diet & work out. I'm doing my 3 protein shakes a day & then a Lean Cuisine, or another meal similar, for dinner. Lynn, my nurse that is awesome, told me that I need to do 90 minutes of exercise a day to have weight loss so that's what I have been doing. On Friday, which was day 1, I did 60 minutes on one of the bike machines & then I did 30 minutes on one of the olyptical machines at my schools fitness center. Now that I am at home & don't have access to an actual fitness center I'll just be using our treadmill that we own. Today I started on the treadmill & had 45 minutes completed & I was really getting into it & I had my iPod blasting & then the machine turned off out of nowhere! Now it is not working, oh boy. My brother suggested that I use our Wii Fit games that we have cause those are work outs too I guess? So I'm going to look into that as well. I hope everyone else is doing great & is enjoying this time of year! Luck & words of encouragement are always appreciated! Until tomorrow... missKAYLA

like new me said, we have to use portion control and make good choices the band wont stop you from getting hungry but will help us eat less i find if i am hungry, i eat something with Protein or even drink me a Protein shake.. you sound like you are doing great so hang in there....

I don't know if this helps you, but I have excellent credit and when I was looking a finance options I applied to Capital One. They wanted to charge me 12.9% interest!! I have much better rates than that on my regular credit cards, so I just used those.

push the protein...it should help some. and make sure when your not eating to drink water and no calorie drinks. and chew gum that always helps if I ever get hungry. How much weight have you lost so far?

I'm sure a lot of people struggle with the pre and post-op diets because they are so restrictive. During this time, it was helpful for me to remember that the liquid diet was only temporary. I hated every type of protein shake I tried, and I haven't had another shake since a few months after surgery. The liquid protein diet is no fun, but just remember that you have to do it for a few weeks only, and then you will be able to eat many different types of foods again. People have various food intolerances, but honestly, there isn't anything I physically can't eat, even with 8cc's. There probably won't be many foods that you absolutely cannot get down after surgery, so there's no need to feel anxious about completely giving up food. The liquid protein diet is in no way representative of the diet you will be following after you have healed. Good luck with your pre-op diet and with your surgery.

It does tend to happen about 3 mo out from surgery. I too take 10,000 mg biotin- one little (size of a tic tac) capsule in the AM and one at lunch. It has helped. It will slow down, but it will be several months. It's normal. Also, make doubly sure to keep up your protein, at LEAST 60 g a day, try for 80 +. That will help. Nicki

Some hair lose is normal with rapid weight loss, the key to slowing it down is to make sure you take in enough protein, during the early months while learning to eat this is difficult so I would suggest you add some protein shakes maybe twice a day to your daily intake. Also you can goggle this because this is what I did. Goggle: hair loss after weight loss surgery, they say the lose should not be as much with lap band but it does happen. The recommended vitamin for hair and nails is Biotin. I take a chew-able one from GNC and I take 2 of them a day. After a couple of weeks of starting this I noticed a reduction in the amount of hair I was losing and I also was losing hair rapidly. Talk to your physician also they may have other suggestions.

That's great news! Congratulations and best of luck. A couple of things I thought of real quick. I'm sure others will have some good suggestions as well. - Get your Protein drinks (I personally like Pure Nutrition Protein from costco....but I drank Boost initially for the variety). Others like unjury. Try a few before your surgery so you can pick the ones that you like best - Different broths and Soups - Crystal light - sugar free Jello Gelatin - Sugar Free popsicles This will help you through the initial days of recovery until you are well enough to do some shopping for mushies. The largest variety of each of these items that you can get the better. You are stuck on a boring liquid diet for a week or two, so variety will make it a little more interesting.

Stay calm and thank them for their concern. Then tell them that you and your doctor have discussed all your options and the band is what is most likely for you to achieve long term weight loss. Tell them that it is important for you to become healthy that's it's not about fitting into a certain size of jeans. Tell them you will be exercising, that the amount/types of food you will be eating will change (like a diet) but the band is a tool to help you be successful long term. Then ask them if they have any questions. Then after all that if they can't be supportive it's their issue. Remember this is your journey. Best of luck!

Marimaru......sounds like you are doing the right thing, the safe thing for your body. I had a complete unfill last summer before I had PS.....and I still felt like I had restriction for about 3-4 weeks - that was a relief!! I could see myself gaining 20 pounds while my 'fat apron' removal was healing. But it didn't happen. I think the key may be in avoiding the white carbs.....they cause your blood sugar to bounce and make you think you're hungry when you really are not. You won't feel deprived and you'll be able to control your eating and staying on track. Be sure and track your food intake on something like fitday and keep your Protein count high to keep your metabolism going at full speed. I, too, have a slipped band and am going thru the 4 wks of liquids til we can figure out what to do. We can do this!! It's too important to not be successful in getting thru this bump in the road. Hugs, Gayle

What are you eating? You need to track your calories, fat, Fiber and Protein and see where you are. You also need to follow the band rules. Protein first, veggies and then carbs if you have room. Do not drink while eating or for at least 30 minutes after you eat. The band is a tool and if we don't follow the rules and eat healthier we won't lose weight. If you are doing all of these things and are still hungry and not losing then you probably need a fill. It is also possible that you aren't eating enough. I had to evaluate what I was doing and when I was honest with myself I know I wasn't using the band the way it was intended. After I adjusted my eating and added exercise the weight started coming off again. Remember just having the band won't make you lose weight. Come here everyday. The stories are inspirational and really help me. You can do it! Good luck!

Those are good ideas. One thing that helps me out when I have weak moments, like at grocery stores, or when looking at DH's box of honey buns (he needs a better diet) and so forth is for me to suck on a piece of sugar free gum or a ginger altoid (I love ginger) or something. Those things are sweet or strong flavored so they give me what I want in terms of instant oral satisfaction and help me remind myself that will power is in there somewhere. Pictures don't work so well for me but I'm wierd. I did find virtual model helpful though. I just love my band. I've lost about thirty pounds now (my ticker is always a bit behind these days). I think I'm starting to notice a bit of a difference. I know for sure that my clothes are bigger. That alone is great. Pre banding I could get advice from a dietician or other well meaning person. And I could know something but still it might not work for me. Mostly because I would get hungry. Sure I might know that I was supposed to eat veggies. But I would get hungry, like feed me seymour hungry and then I tell myself that I am supposed to eat veggies and myself says back "are you kidding me? I'm Hungry here. I'd like a hamburger, fries, and a milkshake. Veggies aren't going to do it." Now I look in the freezer. I think about getting in Protein and then veggies and stuff. Then I might take out a frozen meal thats apropriate. I can't even finish one. And when I do eat junk food like ice cream I can stop after one serving like I'm supposed to. (But I do have remind myself to stop) So good luck. Fill your head with those happy and healthy visions... You can do it!

congrats on taking the right step... As for your diet thusfar...you're doing fine, just watch your carbs and try to replace them with healthy Proteins as you'll stay full longer. For example, instead of the crackers, try a handful of almonds or walnuts. They provide more nutritionally and are more satisfying.

hi Susan and Bluehill, once she accesed the port with needel it didnt hurt although it was a weird feeling, yep it was my first fill ever. I was also lying down and she just did the fill no standing up or sitting?:-)I guess every doctor is different. It was my first fill ever and I guess for a long time last one, because my doc says she doesnt like filling her patients too much cause she is afraid that they will come back later on and there will be no more room for another fill and what I think is that they never fill you over 7-8 cc even if you have 10cc band. she told me to eat much less,so I gave it a try I was hungry as hell and cause I ate only 400cals till 7p.m. I was nauseous and thought that I would faint.thats not a good way for me cause I need some energy to be able to go to the gym.I think that the woman is a bit crazy, she also told me that alhough I have lost a lot of fat I also lost a lot of muscle,I dont understand it since I go to the gym and excercise plus I do some weights...hm Im just thinking that it might be that Im not eating enough...she told me to eat veggies for dinner and I said oh ok with meat right and she told me no cause it stays too long in the stomach...ok where from am I supposed to get the protein? she said yougurth but if you look at the packaging yougurth has like 3.2grams of protein in one glass (or however you call it:-)) and Im supposed to get at least 80grams of protein? Theres something wrong in her calculation, dont you think? I know shes "just" a surgeon and wants to see the results but there are some limits I cant go under or over...like eating under 800cals.I cant work or think when I dont eat... sorry about the bickering I just needed to tell it to someone:-)) thanx for listening:-)) hopefully you all are doing much much better:-))

Hey girl! How ya been doing?! Is that you in the photo?! You look great! I asked my doc on the phone when I made an appt. so she said to stick to Protein Meal Replacement bars or shakes. So I'm going to try that. I found these really nice cottage cheese and fruit combo thinggies in the yougert isle that I eat for a snack that give me some good protein.
-
Also try lentils ..they are high in protein. There different types of lentils.

I only eat fish, so that's a big part of my daily protein. I mix it up with FF refried beans, a few pine nuts tossed in my salads, and any FF version of dairy with good protein like cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt. I'm usually too full to deal with starches, so an occasional bit of potato is a treat but not something I care all that much about. I never eat bread or pasta (by choice), and I can't stand the taste of those Boca or veggie burgers. *blech* Yes, I have a very boring diet, but I like it that way.

I'm 5 weeks as well and I'm on liquids only. I am unable to do any solids at this point. Just Protein shakes Water and broths. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

:omg: I am a little worried. I was looking at the before and after picture forum. I noticed a lot of people in their signatures saying they had band removed and rebanneded for things like slippage and erosion. There was a lot of people! Is it that common? I thought you had a good chance of not needing all that if you ate the correct things and make sure to eat the prescribed diet while you heal. And I saw a discussion on hair loss! I am talking millions of people talking about major extreme hairloss- and they all were getting their Protein, taking Vitamins out the ying yang, special shampoos and conditioners, herbs, etc. A lot of them said nothing helped- they just had to wait it out and it could take up to 11 months. That really freaked me out siince my hair has already thinned over the last few years and now I know it was due to insulin resistance. And what is Biotin? Several people said they are taking that to help with hairloss. I also heard someone say Evening Primrose Oil helps too.

@@steph1514 Go back to basics. Pack a little cooler to bring to work. For a snack - you could pack a greek yogurt, cheese sticks, some almonds, a protein shake, a protein bar, etc. For your "lunch" - pack some grilled chicken, veggies, chicken salad, scrambled eggs with cheese, crustless quiche muffins. Is Subway in your Walmart? Are they open at that hour - you could get a salad with meat/protein. You can pack anything - it just takes time to prepare and make sure you have good options. I would also recommend therapy to deal with the old eating habits.

Sannah, I practice the vegie/vegan habits and I have no issues. I havent tried nuts since my doc said that is a something to be careful of. Refried beans any beans for that matter no problems as a matter of fact my doc encourages them. I love the Amy burger, Boco and Gardien Items.....they are yummy and lots of protein. Enjoy what you already eat vegie/vegan. The only thing I'm sort a missing is the bread/pasta/potato type food but I figured that is what got me her to begin with. I hope you find this helpful. Have a great day!! Tammy

Wish I knew the answer to that one. My hair is falling out too. I take everything everyone tells me to take, and I know I am getting the necessary Protein. I am not one that has trouble eating or drinking my Protein shakes. Nobody seems to have the answer to why it falls out or what makes it stop. I think it just has to run it's course.
