Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty
KikiSue🙋🏼 replied to KikiSue🙋🏼's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Yes, they're paying 90% and I pay 10%. I'm having it done at U of Chicago and it's a $10,000 (all-inclusive) procedure. My Doctor said there won't be any additional fees for anesthesia or meds or anything else as long as there aren't any complications. -
I went for my 6 week post-op on Tuesday & found out that I have bacterial (walking) pneumonia. I told my surgeon that I was having intermittent sharp pain in my right side, under the rib cage and I mistakenly believed that I had worked out too hard on Monday. He sent me for a ct-scan then an x-ray. I am shocked since I don't have a cough, cold symptoms, no fever, nothing. Post-op I used my spirometer faithfully & never had any breathing problems. Has anyone heard of this complication so far out from surgery?

I am getting surgery the 24th and I am freaking out. Wondering if I made the right decision like second guessing everything. This is my first surgery maybe that's why I am like this. Looking for support and comfort stories from people that went though this. I know once I do it I will be so happy but I'm so nerved out all I can think about is the surgery. I am scared of complications or anything like that. Help me out!!!

August 30th...I start my two week ride next Wednesday, although I start the low card diet today to get a feel for the next couple of days and get a head start on shrinking the liver...I'm a cash paying customer, so I want to make sure there are no complications (please God don't let there be any complications)

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow! I haven't had a lot of problems with my sleeve the last six months. I was very lucky to have little to no complications after surgery. I wasn't in a ton of pain afterwards and had to get creative in my ways of getting out of bed for the first few days, but I am very grateful to have had it done.

My doctor told me to wait at least 3 months. I'm almost 4 months and just barely had my first drink last night. I had vodka and diet cranberry with some water. I had no complications, but I was drinking water as well.

jlindenman replied to CT Fats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months post o.o Sleeve surgery. I was 255 and now I am 168. I am not eat I g properly because i still feel like I'm fat. Just the smell of food makes me sick. I have also been having complications like severe stomach pain and throwing up after eating the smallest amount of food. Everything tastes different to me and that is another reason why I do not want to eat. I would be very content Sri king Premire Protein shakes and bars for the rest of my life. -
It is up to the surgeon. The reason behind the pre-op liquid/low calorie diet is to shrink the liver, and minimize the solids in your bowels during the surgery (and immediate days after). A liquid/low calorie diet allows the liver to do less "work", which actually shrinks it. The longer on this diet, the more it will shrink. If you look at an anatomy diagram of the digestive system, you will see that the liver is the large organ that covers the stomach (above and around). During the surgery the surgeon has to move the liver out of the way to work on the stomach (staple and cut for sleeve, cut and seal for bypass). Surgeons are paid (progress in their careers) based off of several factors, a big part is their complication rate. So, to minimize complications surgeons, what the liver as small as possible. Some surgeons are more or less worried about the size of the liver, this is why there is a variation between pre-op diet.

Where at in Florida may I ask? I live here. I'm so jealous of you guys!! My surgery for the sleeve isn't until November. I have a lap band removal surgery for the 16th. Dr. Bass is doing mine. He's such a great surgeon. He did my Band, and I had smooth sailing. It was just too many complications with the band. So Sleeve here I come!!!

Im feeling really nervous and anxious
kem91 replied to Neens's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You and I are really close in surgery dates! I just got the news yesterday that mine is scheduled for the afternoon of the 15th. I've been having anxiety on and off since I started doing pre-op appointments, and I had a dream last night about surgery. The scariest thing to me is the possible complications, but it helps knowing that most occur in 1 in 300 to 1 in 500 patients (which is what my surgeon told me). I think it's the initial phases I'm most worried about, but I'm excited because in the long term I know this is what i need to do to get healthy. As long as you follow your post op instructions you should be okay, but never hesitate to call the surgeon or someone in their office if you think something is off. Also, I've been cranky being on my pre-op diet as well. Sometimes I handle it well, but around certain people I don't hold it in as well as I'd like. I think it's because your body is already experiencing change, and not at a rate it's easy to adjust to. -
How much time in the hospital?
Sajijoma replied to neeseemcmeesee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I spent 3 days including the day of surgery, but I had complications with anesthesia suppressing my breathing and oxygen so I couldn't even get out of bed or sit up without fainting and needing oxygen support until I weaned off the pain meds. -
No go with Dr Illan
MarinaGirl replied to Ready2enjoylife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you for going with your gut. Personally, I had a great experience with Dr Ramos Kelly and his staff in Tijuana. I've had no complications and my weight loss is going great. I booked directly with them; no middleman. The doc also visited me at my hotel daily after being released from the hospital. And his credentials are top notch. -
Weight loss AFTER removal of excess skin
freelee replied to Shrinking_Shamrock's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
2 years ago I had RNY, and at the beginning of this summer I had lost 150 lbs. I am at goal. June 30 I had my panni and he took another 3.5 lbs of skin. I am very happy with it. It does take longer to heal than I had expected. After surgery they immediately had the compression brace on and am still wearing it almost 24/7. i gained some water weight (up to 131 from 117) but am now down to 126. my biggest fear is I will continue to gain if I dont get back on my walking/jogging routine soon. i had to have a section of my incision reopened due to a tiny complication, so I am having to pack an open 3" foe a month until it heals, so the major walking is off the table and "strolls" just arent cutting it weightloss wise. Good luck on your journey. I am very happy with my results. Now I wish I could do my arms and thighs. -

BeachMommy2Girls replied to BeachMommy2Girls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't say it was complicated. I just wondered what other people were doing, if anything, to prevent it. I didn't go through all of this just to stretch it out and gain weight again. -

Follow your plan and eat what your Surgeon recommended you eat. I don't think it is that complicated, I have seen people worry they can fit more in after the healing phase, but just do not test your sleeve as I see alot of people doing. Congrats on 4 weeks. I am 5 weeks out. Keep up what you are doing -
I'm just 5 weeks out and I've had some complications which left me in the hospital for 2 weeks but now I'm healing well. I think the early stages are a rollercoaster for everyone and we all have some doubts and regrets but I just wanted to share that it gets better and fast!!. I've lost 38lbs and I can't stop smiling. Good luck on your journeys (First time posting)

Hi all! I was successfully sleeved last Wednesday with no complications. Just saw my primary doctor today and he has already taken me off two medications! I'm so excited about finally getting healthy! My questions / concerns are about how my stomach is feeling. When I eat (still on liquid diet) I don't seem to get any stop your full feeling. And when drinking, sometimes I can drink a gulp and it doesn't hurt or anything. Talking to my dad who had a gastric bypass says it's very clear that he's full and needs to stop. I guess I'm still learning the new sensations and still healing too. Was just hoping you all could tell me your experiences, and if what I am feeling (physically not emotionally) is normal, and maybe what to expect. Thanks!

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At this point you've been through all the preparation and decision-making. You know this is a better option than the health risks associated with obesity. It's a very safe surgery--very low rate of complications: That's not a guarantee, but if it were the lottery, you'd like the odds. Take a deep breath, stay calm as you can, and look to the future. It can be fantastic! Good luck. -
Any August 2017 Sleevers?
CSG1966 replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you're getting nervous. I get sleeved on Wednesday and I'm worried that I'm really not nervous. My family is more nervous than I am. Please know that there are risks with any type of procedure. Serious complications are rare and usually not life threatening, from my research. I think it's the few that you do hear from that gets us concerned. Weigh your options dear. Pros and cons and see where you come out... I did and my current medical conditions were the deciding factor. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you much luck. -

Sorry it's been so tough. Can you tell us a little more about what happened? Is it complications or just the surgery itself is difficult? -
Finally had skin removal surgery on abdomen on July 24th. Had some complications. I am 17 months out from gastric bypass surgery. Kinda wish I hadn't had the skin removal surgery. Think about it long and hard unless it is unbearable. Sent from my SM-T377V using BariatricPal mobile app
