    June 27 surgery date

Congrats on the new date!!! I just have a week of two shakes and some food like a lean cuisine or smart one. My pre-op is Thursday and my surgery is June 25th. Good luck with your surgery and recovery.
  2. So over the weekend I started to feel awful, developed abdominal pain, kind of like being kicked in the stomach every time I moved and food was worse when I ate or drunk something. I'm 8wks post RNY bypass and have been eating solid food for a couple of weeks now. I went into hospital on tuesday, after trying antibiotics for a couple of days, and had a CT scan which showed thickening of my jejunum. Slight raising of my inflammatory markers but no white cells or temperature, so not an infection. After three days in hospital the conclusion is that I had been too ambitious with my solid food and my new anatomy wasn't coping that well... Anyway I wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience or learning?
  3. 8 weeks post op? What where you eating? and where you chewing it up really well? I thought 8 weeks was fine to start eating

Reasons to be/not to be banded?

First of all, I never thought to myself, I may want it out before I ever got it. I did have some fears of course, I think that is natural. I know you are asking the people who wanted it or got it out but I wanted to tell you how I feel now that I am a couple months post op. I have absolutely no regrets at this point and I am thrilled I had the surgery. I was a person who for the last three years couldn't even yo yo diet. I was just heading up the scale period. Oral steriods for a skin condition and thyroid disease made it totally impossible to lose weight or even maintain weight. I am on my way down the scale and wouldn't change my experience so far for anything. Not saying I haven't worked hard for it because I have but at least now I have results which I couldn't get before. I think it is ok to be nervous and have fears but I also believe you have to want it bad enough and be willing to take whatever conseqences come with it (bad or good) and deal with it when it happens. If I have problems down the road then I will handle them when I get there. I hope you find the answers you are looking for and can decide once and for all if the band is right for you. Good Luck!
  5. Everything went really well today. I feel great! I hope the next few weeks go just as smoothly.
  6. I get sleeved on 9-20-2012. I get moments of anxiety where I question whether I've made the right decision or not. I know that I have. I guess I'm faced with this same anxiety when it comes to any big decision in my life. I start my liquid diet this Thursday the 6th for two weeks. Friday is Pre-Op. Friday the 14th is my EGD and then the 20th is D-Day! I went through a whole month of waiting for the appointments to get here and now they are here and the anxiety is sneaking in! I guess I'm excited AND scared at the same time . I am looking forward to being healthy. It's not a size or a look that is my goal. It is to be off medications and living healthy. I want to have the ability to go for a walk with my husband and not worry about passing out 1/2 way through the adventure. I want to go to the zoo without passing out or having to sit every 5 minutes because of back and knee pain. I want to fly without infringing upon my neighbor's space. It's been too long coming for me. Early on when I made my decision to get sleeved, I went out and purchased some protein powder and a few other things 'just to see' how horrific it was going to be. Honestly, it isn't going to be that bad for me. Since I HATE chocolate and sweets for the most part, it's going to be hard for that reason. I don't think the protein shakes are that horrible especially since I'll be using Vanilla flavored and you can add just about anything to that to make it palatable and versatile. My husband and grown sons are amazing with their support. Only one other person knows and he is a co-worker. The only reason I told him is because he's getting sleeved on 10-23-2012. We'll be sleeve partners at work. I'm lucky in that respect. The only thing that I worry about is when the pounds start dropping off that I don't sabotage myself. I see a bit of success and then I have to go and ruin it by overeating to celebrate. Crazy, I know. I can do this. I will succeed. This forum has really been a source of comfort and knowledge. I thank you all!
  7. I am down exactly 40lbs! This is including my 1 week pre op diet! So excited for the future! 60 more to go!

    Plantar Fasciitis ?

Oh. bless you! It hurts so bad! I had a bout with it less than a year ago. It took time to heal with lots of stretching every morning and night. My doctor had me get special inserts and wear tennis shoes for weeks. I was lucky to not have to wear the boot, use crutches or have surgery. Of course the first remedy was lose weight! This happened during my 6 months supervised diet, so I was limited in how much I could lose without getting denied for my band. I hope with the weight coming off, that I never have to have an issue with my foot again. I wish you all the best!

    Sleeved Aug 29th

I was also on diluted and ali given a script for percocet. I was not given a stool softener script but taking OTC coach stool softener on my own . I have not yet gone number 2 as of yet. I guess percocet does help but it is all just so tender and sore and honestly I am not walking as much as I should. Sleeved Aug 29th

Hi! I was sleeved on 8/8. I went into the hosp at 9 am and was on the way home by 3 pm. The first week was hard but now 3 weeks out I am able to tolerate pretty much anything as long as I take small bites and go slow. I am down 13 pounds and have started back into yoga. Meds To Prevent Gallstones

I just talked to my GI doc today and he wants me to take it starting 1 week prior to surgery. He says the pills can be crushed and mixed as a slurry or added to whatever I am drinking. I know stones can form pretty fast. I looked at my gallbladder after 36 days on the HCG diet and it was bright white with sludge. I decided to stop there instead of going to 40 days. Ate steak and contracted it pretty good, but took one more fatty meal to return it to normal. I don't think my GB will make it too long without help. I really want to keep it. Hope this medicine works.

    Bariatric Advantage ?

One of the reps was at a support group I went to this past week. She didn't say much about Protein stuff, but we did sample some of their Vitamins. They were not too bad - the calcium chew thing was outstanding! I did want to mention that she talked about a pre-op Vitamin that they make that helps get your levels evened out and gets you used to taking a supplement. I am not sure how it tastes because we did not sample that one, but it might be worth looking into. Good luck!

  14. Greetings Gastric Sleevers! My name is Jay. I am 45 years old and I have been Morbidly Obese my entire Life. Here is my story. I had a Work Physical in December 2006. When I stepped on the scale I weighed 326lbs. That was the most Obese I had ever been, and enough was enough. I had had it. I needed to do something drastic to stop the weight gain. I decided to have a Lab Band. At the time I didnt want to have any physical changes to my body, and people were having very good weight loss success on the Band. In February of 2007, I had my surgery. From February 2007 to September 2007 the band worked great!!! I weighed in at 207lbs. I was extremely happy!!! But sometime in September the tubing to the band developed a kink and then the tubing cracked and the band was worthless. March of 2008 I underwent my second surgery, this time it was a port and tubing replacement. Everything seemed fine until I went in for my first fill. When they tried to fill the band they werent able to. The tubing was kinked again!!! Are you F'ing kidding me? I had enough and was just going to do my best on what the surgeon had put in the band ( I think it was 9cc's). It wasnt enough, I started to gradually put on weight. In 2012 I had enough again. I went in to have the band filled under X-Ray Fluroscopy. For whatever reason the band took in 15 cc's The band I had was only supposed to hold 12. Needless to say the band was closed off, and I couldnt eat or drink anything. Two days later I had emergency surgery to release the band. The surgery went well, but the Surgeon didnt replace the band. When I went in for a fill they put in the Max CC's of 12. Guess what? No restriction. Yup in was stretched out so much it was ineffective again! I had had enough with the Lap Band, it was nothing but a big giant headache for me. I decided to have a Gastric Sleeve in 2015. I had my surgery on June 24th 2015. The day of the surgery I weighed in at 275lbs. Today is September 11th and I am down to 240lbs. I am very happy with my Sleeve, but the adjustment to the new diet was very hard for me. I am doing 3 Protein shakes a day and I added 1 KETO OS drink a day to my diet. It has made a huge difference. My energy levels are through the roof and I feel absolutely Fantastic!!! The weight is coming off twice as fast for me ( from 2 pounds a week to 4) I took the time to research this product and it is the best decision I have made in a long time. Check it out for yourself: http://C7W6R4.pruvitnow.com
  15. I was six days out from a RNY revision surgery, a few weeks ago. I did so well preparing for the surgery that I decided to postpone it. The procedure I was going to have is one where the Roux arm is lengthened and the stoma reduced in size. The modification of the bypass has a 15% chance of complications. My surgeon was confident in his ability because he has only 1% complications with this procedure. If they are just working on your pouch and stoma I would not worry. That is low risk. I am losing weight again, slowly. I have learned so, so much from this forum. I have been reading the books and watching videos that are helping me understand why I am hungry. It was 2000 when I had my bypass. There is so much more information and tools available now. I am relearning how to eat properly and how important vitamins are. I will wait six months before I decide if I need the revision surgery. My suggestion is, study up and copy what the new RNY patients are doing. I feel I am a born again bypass patient. Best of luck!
  16. Hi: Just had my slipped band replaced on 7/20. A little bit simpler surgery because they didn't have to mess with my port. However, the fatigue is hitting just as bad as with the first time. First band I took two weeks vacation. This time I went back to work full time 6 days post op. My butt's been dragging all week, but getting better each day. I hope to feel well enough to start exercising next week (just walking & swimming). I gained 7 pounds post surgery because of Fluid retention. So far I've lost that plus 7 more since last week! Happy to have my "Belly Cop" back again! Sue
  17. I too am a food-aholic. I've always enjoyed eating. Large portions were my down fall for sure. Since being banded a week ago, I still have my food cravings, my mouth waters like crazy when the family is eating and I'm either drinking a protien shake or eating extremely tiny amounts of yogurt. Right now, I'd say it would be a 10 for me to break my food addiction.
  18. So I am almost into my second week of the liver shirking diet. I have felt vary nausea today and last night. It's common with me and I normally have a some type of bread (pita or toast) with butter or peppermint candy to help settle my tummy down. But on the liver shrinking diet there is no bread allowed (or candy for that matter). What are some other things I can try.

Keep a Food Diary, Lose Twice as Much Weight

Well I went for surger on the 30th of May. I had some complications, ended up having to be an open surgery. I have been on a liquid diet, clear fluids for a month, and then mushies for a week. Now that I am back on full foods I have changed my lifestyle. It is really crazy, we are being so much more concious of what we eat and what we cook and what we keep in our house. It has been a great transformation for me and I see this working for me in the long term. So to keep me accountable I started a food diary!!! That was so great to read, because it helps me so much, and keeps me accountable for what I eat. I actually enjoy writing down what I eat because it isn't crap anymore. And I am so exctied to look back day to day what I ate. Also because I am a nurse and work night shifts and day shifts it was really important to me to be able to see what I eat during these days. I mean nights at work, I used to binge eat because I was bored and thought I was hungry. Now seeing how little I eat or the healthy things I choose make me so happy. It also works as a great incentive. I am going away in September and will be on a beach if only for a few days, but I am gonna enjoy some tasty sea food and maybe dessert! Best thing I ever did. Thanks for posting about it. PS mine is a self made scrap paper pieces stapled togther. It looks ratehr sad but does the job! And I always right down right after I eat! Thanks again!!
  20. I was SOOO so ready for some purees! I wasn't worried about gaining... I think moving from liquids to purees changed my calories from 500 daily to 600 daily, nothing dramatic. I dropped my lunch Protein drink in exchange for 2 oz of chicken salad and a mid-day 2 oz snack of cottage cheese... it almost equals out. Same thing with dinner. It would be hard to gain on the amounts you will be able to consume! Just follow your plan... it works. What actually caused my loss to stall was consuming too few calories. Six weeks post-op I stalled until got my calories up to 700-800....then started losing again.
  21. Hey all, I've had my band now for 3 1/2 yrs and have been very successful. Lost 104 lbs in 2 yrs and was 9 lbs from my goal of 135 last year. Then 10 mths ago, I had a minor slip. One that an unfill relieved my severe reflux, but also leaving me with less (much less) restriction. I still have 6cc in my 14 cc band. 1 more cc and it causes reflux. So my drs leaving me alone since I no longer have reflux. I've been going back and forth with: 1. I live with the less-than-optimal restriction, watch calories, diet (which I swore I'd never do after getting the lapband) and do it the old fashioned way. Leaving it alone. Living with a contraption inside of me that works about 75%. 2. Demand my dr fix it. I can either have it replaced, replaced with plication, or convert to a sleeve My ?: Medicare paid for my surgery, as my BMI was 42 and I had hypertension. Do they cover a 2nd surgery because of a complication even tho my BMI is now 27.5. Do they go by what my original BMI was or current? Will they cover adding the plication or just go for what it originally was? Not sure that I want to start fresh again, with surgery, 4 weeks of liquids, and many trips (6 hr roundtrip) to get my adjustments until they are good. So, does Medicare cover revision of my band only or can I add plication too? Thanks! Marci
  22. Hey ppl!! I just wanted to share my before and during pics with all of you... I hadn't seen my old pics in a while and wow did I look bad back then... So started this whole process at 233 pounds (my highest ever) and was around 215 by my surgery date... I've been loosing slowly since the second week and the scale hasn't moved a lot in a few weeks which is somewhat discouraging but seeing this I get that I'm still loosing inches even though the scale shows almost no weight loss for a month now... I weigh around 189 and I'm 2 months out... I admit I haven't really dieted lately cause of the holidays but I have been more conscious about what I eat and of course my portions are very small... I struggle with getting all my Protein in and also with learning when to stop eating so almost every meal I get this full, really uncomfortable feeling but well I'm still learning... But oh well... Here are my pics (or at least I hope they got attached) ... The first 3 are from a few months ago when I was at my heaviest (holy horrible pics) then there's one with my friends around a week before surgery and the last are all from last week at home and from my trip to disneyworld last week...
  23. Hi Robyn, I had RNY May 5. Like the other poster said, don't sweat the first couple weeks. Just try to stay hydrated, sip by small sip. I HATED protein drinks myself. After the 2 week visit with the doc, he said it was ok, as long as I recorded what I ate, and I had the amount of protein I needed. Hence, I have survived on soft eggs, tuna pouches, and soft canned meat. I cook a lot of meat in the crockpot because it is more tender. Also, 90 percent ground beef was easy for me. Be patient, you will figure it out!
  24. Onehotmomma, I guess the only thing different between you and me is your female and I am male. My journey started at 273, I was 268 on day of surg. and I was banded on 12/29/08. I have already had 1 fill of 2cc's and I go back tomorrow for what will probably be another 1cc. I realize it is a slow process and according to my doctor, they only expect 1 lb per week. I am down 30 so far to date, I have had to change my belt size, and am down a size in my pants. I think I'm losing my butt first. LOL. I just get frustrated with myself when I have to eat more than they tell me I should be able to handle. At this point post op, my meals should only be 4 to 6 oz. Thats a joke. Granted, I dont eat as much as I use to but sometimes I feel it is awfully close. We'll just keep on keepin on and hopefully everything will come together.
