Hi everyone! My name is Mikki and I am a year into my journey. I had gastric bypass surgery last year in September. Over this year I lost 90 pounds and ideally would like to lose another 90 but over time the weight loss greatly tapers off and I've become lazy and complacent. It's time to get back on track and shed these last pounds but I know I can't go it alone, so I come seeing kindred spirits and support. It's a pleasure to meet all of you very courageous ladies. I look forward to being a part of this group!! Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

Weight loss has stalled, what should I do?
WendyO replied to WendyO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am a bypass patient, not a sleeve patient. I am sure I need to be more active and have a plan in place for exercise. I am also unemployed and need to find a job so maybe that will make a difference if I manage to find a job. I try not to miss meals because I know how that effects the body. You could be right, my body could just be going through a difficult time. Thank you for your comment 😀 -
Weight loss has stalled, what should I do?
Jacks133 replied to WendyO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
One thing I got early on was a set of body composition scales - like Tanita. There are lots on Amazon. This tells you a lot more about yourself that just your weight. As you’re small like me (I’m 5ft 1 inches) we need a lot less ‘maintenance’ calories than the average for a woman. It’s not hard with an unmeasured calorie intake to be having too much. Equally, if you deprive your body of maintenance calories too long your body will try to conserve rather than spend your fat reserves. Starving yourself is not a good option. It may be that some of the foods you’re eating are too high calorie for you. Because you’re a sleeve patient rather than bypass you won’t have the same issue with malabsorption and it is possible a year out from surgery that you’re simply eating too many calories. The gas and nausea doesn’t sound nice though and I would not have expected this a year out, so good to have a talk to your physician about this. Maybe you’re just going through a difficult period - you’ve lost over a third of your body weight from your start date, which is amazing! I wish you every success getting to your goal. -
Any 45+ year old women on here with gastric bypass experience?
kathyann1234 replied to timmytommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 63 scheduled November 8 for gastric bypass. Been thru the classes. Won’t say I’m not a little worried. Doing this for my healthcare. Anyone my age doing this -
Had my bypass on 21st so 2 days post op and I went out shopping today! This is sooo different than my sleeve 8 years ago. I think I was in the bed for at least a week with pain. I think getting up more and my doctor prescribing me some topical pain relief as well. So far no hunger so I am just trying to keep ice and water in the little medicine cups. It helps me not be too overwhelmed. Nauseous for sure, And gas! I will try the heating pad. I TOO was up 4 lbs do to all the iv fluids and gas they pump in you. But hoping to see that drop soon! Good luck to all!

Worried...No Constriction It Seems
devotion replied to devotion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you @Kriss77! I hope I am able to distinguish between head hunger and real hunger as time goes on. Good luck to you as well! Are there any gastric bypass patients out there who can talk about when I should start to feel restriction? -

Hey! I didn’t have bypass. I was sleeved. But I wouldn’t try to chug anything ever. Small sips/regular sip is what I always do. I’m not sure if bypass pt feel restriction. But I will tell you head hunger is a real thing. I’d turn the channel when you see something that temps you or distract yourself with some type of activity, book, go for a walk etc Learning how to do that is important I think. At least it was for me. Figuring out whether I just want something as opposed to actually hungry for it. Good luck to you! This app/forum I’ve found to be super helpful since my sleeve 3 years ago. -
Worried...No Constriction It Seems
devotion posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I am 12 days post-op and everything went well with my surgery. I had a gastric bypass (lapband to gastric bypass revision to be precise). I am now on full liquids, but am not experiencing ANY feeling of constriction. I am so worried. Is this normal during the food stage I'm in? Now, I haven't tried chugging water or anything like that, but when drinking broth or smoothies, etc., I feel no constriction. On another note, I am experiencing what I think is "head hunger". I see advertisements for food and think that I want the food. However, I am pretty sure I do not feel any real hunger. How can I tell the difference? Thanks in advance for any advice! -
I was excited/nervous about the bypass on 10/5/21. Initially I was ok. Surgery was good, sent home on track. Walking and working the discharge orders successfully. 10/10/21 back in the hospital with a bowel blockage after taking the suggested Metamucil. It gels and potentially can cause blockages. Another surgery, NG tube, and 6 days in the icu I was terrified. I am a mom, I was doing this to be better for myself and my family but I suddenly feared the choice I made could possibly have taken me from them. After coming home I have had challenges with intake, collapsed lung, incision infection, and the loss of control in bm’s . I researched this for 10 years and ignored my fear because I would read so very many success stories and think I was being over dramatic or paranoid. Although I will say my last 3 days have been better, infection seems to be doing better, lung better, fever gone and increased intake on fluids. This is definitely a life decision that can not just effect you but your family, and your mental state. Be sure, talk with your loved ones and your doctor. The most emotional moments have been during my struggles in the hospital, pain, missing my family, fear the wonderful, caring nurses that really supported me so that I could get back home to them.

New feeling. Not hungry. Update.
Tomo replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Unfortunately, yes. I never had reflux before that. That is why my surgeon told me I had to get a revision. Not everyone gets reflux from sleeve but I don't know the percentage who does. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -

How many of you had diarrhea post bypass? How long did it last?
EmKat posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Warning: TMI. Hi all. I had my gastric bypass on 10/6 so I am 16 days post op. I am having diarrhea to the point of incontinence and have resorted to wearing a pad to prevent any accidents. I’m so mortified. My diet has advanced to soft foods like scrambled eggs, yogurts cottage cheeses, etc. My surgeon is very liberal on advancing the post op diet. I don’t have dumping because it happens at random times. This is completely new for me. Before the surgery I had just the opposite issue and dealt with constipation occasionally. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. Thanks in advance. -
New feeling. Not hungry. Update.
Pricilla replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Was the reflux due to the sleeve? Or did you have reflux before the sleeve? Is this why most people that end up having a revision, because of the onset of reflux? Should we just jump to the RNY instead of the sleeve? -
I guess I am just alittle confused with the beginnings of pursuing a gastric sleeve..... For the past 2 yrs or so I have had my PCP make referrals on my behalf for weight loss management whether I wanted it or not. I went for a colonoscopy and only saw that Dr one time which was the day of my colonoscopy. Next thing I know after the colonoscopy Im getting phone messages from the weight loss management section of the hospital telling me I have several referrals and to contact them. To say I was pissed is mild lol. I guess I wanted to make the move myself and not be thrust into it. Of course Im way over weight, of course my health is suffering not to mention my mobility is next to none. Im just a procrastinator. I have been on several weight loss journeys within that 2 yr period. I did have a medically supervised diet for 5 months that I did. I lost weight but quickly started gaining it back after I fell last Christmas and injured my knee. Fast forward to July of this year and I had a gall bladder attack and made a trip to the local ER and yep you guessed it....by Monday morning I had another weight management referral......blah lol plus a referral to a general surgeon regarding the gall bladder. This lady was a real trooper lol she got to hear me complaining about all these referrals and my weight loss struggles; ironically the more I talked about it with her the more infuriated I got for getting all these referrals for a gastric bypass that I didnt want. Luckily I suppose she listened so Im going for a gastric sleeve appointment next week Thursday. She told me she wouldnt require a supervised diet and that I could just move on to the surgery itself. I guess Ill find out next week if she remembers telling me that or not. As far as I am aware I am going for a preop educational appt but from what Ive read in here there seems to be alot more to it. I see ppl say their surgery dates are in the far future and not anything soon. What are some of the timelines any of you are experiencing? I think I may have a rude awakening come next week Thursday lol

No Restriction - VSG to RNY
Sunnyway replied to 2badogs's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
With RNY gastric bypass, "not hungry" is "full". Getting a chest pain, hick-ups, or "the foamies" is a sign that your pouch is overfull or something is stuck. You can up-chuck to remove it. Regurgitation is not the same a vomiting. -
1990 RNY revision at age 73
Sunnyway replied to Sunnyway's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Update: My surgeon asked for an abdominal CT (I assume to see what mess, if any, my prior WLS surgeries caused), which has been completed. Because my last two EKGs had some irregularities and because I have a pacemaker, he also wanted a cardiology evaluation. The cardiologies wants me to have a chemical stress test and an updated echocardiogram. Office visited completed, and I have to go to the hospital 90 miles away for the tests, perhaps in the next week or so. I am very happy with how thorough the surgeon and cardiologist are being, in stark contrast with my prior WLS surgeons. If the cardiologist approves the surgery, the paperwork will go to Medicare. When Medicare approves the revision (apparently a slam-dunk with my comorbidities), I will finally get a surgery date. I've been stalled, going up and down the same 2-4 lbs for since early September, reinforcing why I need this surgery. Also, I finally got a call-back from the local psychologist-dietitian on whose waiting list I've been on since July. I'll hopefully get an appointment shortly. I did have an evaluation by the clinic's psychiatrist and a tele-visit consultation with another psychologist (who didn't think I needed therapy), but this one is local and I hope can help me develop coping strategies when the cravings appear. They have been an issue for the past few months and will be again after the surgery honeymoon period ends. I know from experience that I am going to need help to avoid regaining. -
Vomiting (with bile) is very rare after gastric bypass because the content of your pouch doesn't contain bile. However, you can up-chuck, which is not the same as vomiting. It is merely regurgitating what you have masticated and swallowed along with some fluid. You can make yourself do it if something gets stuck or you get the chest pain signal that you ate too much too fast. I can do it by gently putting a spoon handle in the back of my throat and coughing as I lean over the sink or toilet. Genuine vomiting would be medically concerning. Dry heaves would not.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Natalie_Rene replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey everyone! I’ve been stalking these forums for months as I’ve been preparing for my surgery. This is my first time actually posting. I had my gastric bypass done 10/13. I’m down 13lbs in 8 days. It’s been rough to say the least! Even drinking water makes my belly feel so gurgly and sick. But I’ve not had any issues keeping fluids down, so I know I’m better off than so many who get actually sick. -
17 months post op. Yes I still get sick. I have figured out somethings that will get me but like you said one time for something is okay and then the next time its not oaky. I ended up losing down to 142 from 180 after revision. I pretty much sit at 148. I dont worry about regain anymore which is good. I dont mind the trade off really, it keeps me in check. It does get better the farther out you get just listen to your body. Over eating makes me sick too and in the beginning I could not feel a thing until it was too late and I was already sick. I really have to be careful.

Looking for Surgery People 60 and UP
Lily1 replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My husband is 71 and had gastric bypass surgery last Fri. No complications and he is doing really well. Sipping and following puréed food diet. -
Hi! I was just wondering how you were feeling these days? Have you found the regret and depression have lessened? I am 2.5 weeks out from a lapband to bypass conversion and still having quite a bit of regret. Hoping it will just go away in time
-
I wouldn't either necessarily, particularly with a bypass that can be more prone to dumping, but some plans do permit it, usually in dilute form. I had a juice box in the hospital (but our diet was somewhat more "advanced" than most, being on soft and puree foods as well at that time.) There are many foods that may not be the greatest thing for weight loss intermediate to longer term that can be useful in small amounts in the shorter term transitional period - mashed potatoes are another common soft food item that has value at this time that we may rather stay away from later on (or maybe not - lots of potassium in there...) It's a big YMMV thing, and there is no definitive right or wrong answer, and sometimes specific problems, such as the OP's can have solutions that seem counterintuitive to some.

October surgery friends??
QueenB_Jean replied to LyricalWarfare's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon switched me to RNY gastric bypass last minute so I'm no longer part of the sleeve crew. I'm 6 days out and the first couple of days were tough because Tylenol just wasn't doing it. Luckily, I remembered I had a few stronger painkillers from a previous procedure and that helped so much. I've started craving solid food just a bit because I've been on a liquid diet for two weeks now. I keep finding things to do to distract myself from those thoughts.
