Cathy, I am a type 1 diabetic and my weight loss was good at first but I've been at a stall for a while. My doctor told me that my weight loss would not be as fast because of the diabetes.

From the album: During
4 weeks after. wt 222 27 pound loss -
This was a problem for me the first several weeks. I also kept a bottle of water by the bed and drank some when I woke up. It goes away I promise. It is just hard to get as much fluids as you need the first few weeks.

Nutritionist...
Jessica.O replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like you are getting pretty anxious! I had to see my nutritionist for six monthly visits leading up to surgery and we didn't discuss grams of Protein, calories, fats, etc! The things we worked on together before surgery were how to start changing my habits on preparation for using my new pouch for example, I had to slow down my eating and take 20-25 minutes to eat each meal. I also had to make sure i was eating three meals a day with no snacking. We talked about what to buy before surgery, what Vitamins I'd need and why, what I could eat during the initial stages post op, etc. The calories and carbs and Proteins will come later. Just slow down. We ALL think we know a few things about eating right because we've done every diet under the sun, read every article, measured our food. We've lost tons of weight! But we gained it back. None of us would be seeing bariatric surgeons if we didn't need the extra help. You need to put your trust in the professionals. It's such a foreign concept to actually practice what they are teaching, believe me I know, but I'm so glad I had those visits. It really gave me good preparation and I think using my pouch is coming to me more naturally than if I hadn't had those sessions. BTW my surgery was just on July 1 and I'm down from 270 to 247!! I strongly recommend finding a surgeon and facility that are a bariatric center of excellence. This means they are held to higher standards. They have to provide comprehensive care and support for long term success. They typically have their own nutritionist with bariatric experience and host support group meetings. I attend one meeting before surgery which was really helpful to me (and my husband). I hope I've helped! -
I actually asked my dr this question and he said 2 weeks. I was surprised! Happy though to be able to relax in the water and get my bronze on.

OMG, you almost brought me to tears. I still need to see my heart doctor and the lung doctor, but I am guessing they are going to say ok. Heart doctor told me two weeks ago I have a strong heart. I am praying that I have the strength and mind set to change and give up my favorite foods and to accept the new way of life (I hate change). Please keep me updated with your courageous words.

I have wanted to explore WLS for a long long time, well after a few failed marriages in my early 20's and being a single mom.. I decided it was time to shed a little light on myself. I have general concern for my health, and of course want to be anything but "the fat girl with a pretty face." So I started a new job, and was elated to find out that my hospital has a Weight Mgt center, and its a "Center of Excellence" for bariatric surgery.. SCORE! I started my process on Feburary 1st, was approved for the program on Feburary 14th (best vday a chunky girl can get!), went thru all my intake, h&p, exercise, and nutritional evals, psych eval and am waiting on surgical consult March 23rd. We are pushing for a first week of May surgery date :-) Not bad at all! I am super exicted to join this forum, my behaviorist has asked me to lead some of our "support groups" apparently I have some good positive light to shed, so I am hoping to do the same here. I wish everyone good luck, and happy banding!

8 weeks to surgery 🥳🥳🥰🥰
Smanky replied to kylie-Anne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello fellow New South Welshman! I'm in Sydney, whereabouts are you? 8 weeks is super exciting, it'll fly by in no time. Which procedure are you getting? -
My surgeon told me for six weeks following surgery I need to take a minute walk every 15 min, always moving after 15 min. How did you all remember to do this? Set an alarm lol or did it just become habit. It is to prevent blood clots so I definitely want to follow his advice.

Yes I came three pounds one month before my surgery and I was frantic but my doctor told me not to worry I still get my surgery on March 28th

What has your doctor told you to eat? My doctor recommends whey Isolate Protein powder. Remember protein keeps you full longer than carbs. shakes like slimfast and carnation instant Breakfast do not have enough protein and won't keep you as full. I like Dymatize vanilla and Gold Standard Double chocolate. From costco Premier ready to drink protein is very good and has 30 g protein for only 160 calories. Also space out your food as much as possible. I understand if you only have one shake you will still be hungry. If however you know you can have something else in a couple hours it may help you stop snacking on unapproved food. FYI post op you will probably have 2 weeks of liquids and you can not cheat then it will be very bad for your stomach!

Surgery Less Than 36 Hours Away! Whew...nervous
Happy Camper replied to Joiebean's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Joiebean you will do great. Keep the mental focus positive, and just follow the doctors guidelines to the "T" and you will be successful. Everyone reminds us, get the fluids in -it really is most important in the first few weeks. The Protein and food will come, but you will not feel well if you get dehydrated. Please, listen to your body! Sending positive thoughts and prayers. Jkwkgrl - wow, that is a lot to think about *your dad* just as you are preparing for surgery. Someone once said to me "how many obese elderly do you see, let alone super obese?" that was my "AH HA" moment. You did the right thing for you and your family. Hope your dad is doing well, maybe he can just start by moving a little to feel better? Smiles all - keep positive, Sandy -

Call Susan, she should be able to help you 1-866-697-5338. When are you having your surgery? I'll be there on July 31, for surgery on Aug. 1st. I'm still waiting for my pre-op instructions, so that's the only information I can give you. I'm excited... it's gonna be a long 5 weeks waiting. -
Worried about the possibility of insurance denial?
raspberrylime posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have jumped through all the hoops required by my insurance company (BCBS IL) and have my last nutritionist appointment the first week in August. They'll submit to insurance that day. I'm trying to stay positive and optimistic but the closer we get to submitting the more anxiety I have about not getting approved. I'm curious to hear if anyone has gone through this whole process, did all of the requirements, and was still denied? Did you appeal? Self-pay? -
Jackson is my Schnauzer & Mabel (short for Mabelline) is my mutt. Mabel chose us last summer & showed up when she was about 6 weeks old, outside of my chicken pen screaming! She is so loveable! I'm glad she chose us! They are so bad! I couldn't get them to put the toy down for a group picture!

You can request three free samples from: www.doctorsbestweightloss.com Once you go to this site, click on the purple bar in the lower right corner that says "leave a message" or "chat now". If it's after business hours, you will have to leave your sample request as a message. Otherwise, you can chat with an online chat person. They will let you request a Protein bar, Protein shake, protein pudding or Soup in your choice of flavor. I sampled some protein pudding (Bariatric fusion chocolate) and liked it so much that I ordered a tub of it. They have great prices and service. The samples only take a few days to ship to you. Also, Bariatric Choice will give you two samples at your request. It's usually a chicken broth and chocolate pudding. JamieLogical replied to mik3sparks's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and good luck! I know that the couple of weeks before surgery can seem like eternity, but it will sneak up on you in the end! -
Hello everyone, my name is mike or some know me as big mike. I weigh 335lbs at 39 years old and I am ready to loose it! I am having the VSG in one week today and I can't wait!

Did anyone have problems sticking to their pre-op diet and cheat eating carbs or anyone with a lower BMI (35-36) that didn't have do do a week or two of protein shakes? I'm worred my liver won't be shrunk enough and my surgery will be cancelled.
