HELP! Pre-op, Almost at Finish Line... Thoughts of Bailing

This does make sense. I'm now on my last day of the pre-op. Tomorrow I drink some sugary drinks and clear liquid. The sugary drinks are supposed to kick you out of ketosis. It's weird now today I was just trying to enjoy my protein drinks as a "last meal" since tomorrow it's changing again. I'm still pretty nervous. Re-reading this post. Trying to focus on the good stuff. Still wondering what I'm thinking with the stomach removal, though. Worries are mostly about my new insides and that I don't want to end up with a revision. I don't have to worry about a revision if I don't have the surgery.

    Majorly high B12 levels?

There’s a lot going on here. I agree with the posters above. I would also talk with a dietitian and knowledgeable pharmacist. They would know more about medication/vitamin interactions and the brain. I had bypass so our vitamin requirements have us separate the daily vitamin and extra sublingual B vitamins (all B’s together) and calcium citrate w/D chews. I would talk with professional med/vitamin/food people and explain your depression as a symptom. I would also bring this up with whoever prescribed your depression medication because they should also be updated on blood/brain barrier interactions with vitamins. Many people on this forum and on YouTube have difficulty finding their balance emotionally after loosing significant weight. You are not alone, this is a known side affect. There is an emotional effect, but also a brain chemical effect. Please keep us updated on your progress. I love how you are curious and fighting for your health by asking good questions.

    Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass

I take a generic ritalin but i had to be switched from extended release to immediate release so now i take 3 20mgs a day. Most extended release medications dont work on me. I had my gastric bypass in 2005. Not sure if any of this info helps
  5. Hello all, I had my Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y, Laparoscopic) August 17th 2005. I had my gall bladder taken out in May of 2007. I can't say I remember when this started but I know I had talked to a doctor before about it. Sometimes I'll have a very bad onset of pain in my stomach. It will feel like I need to poop badly, instead nothing will move. I usually deal with this pain between 15-30 minutes. Then Suddenly I will hear this loud deep gargle from around my left side, the sounds sorta sound like something releasing pressure or steam. The feeling that goes with it i can not describe at all. I wanna say it feels like an inner burp. Then all the pain goes away like nothing ever happened. Like I said I asked my doctor about it, thinking maybe I have a leak or something like that in my pouch, but when I was checked everything had healed fine. I have tried to see what causes this but it can happen at weird times where I haven't eaten anything at all since I was in a deep sleep, to drinking water to eating a banana. It has happened at home, at work and when I was attending, at college. The worse is when it happens at work, sometimes I'll get a warning gargle so I can rush to the bathroom to be in pain in peace ( we have a nice family bathroom in the back where I can be for the time period) I just want to know if anyone else has had this or something like it? I admit I haven't see my surgeon in over 10 years since my current insurance doesn't cover visits to him. I lost my parents insurance, after the insurance fully paid for my surgery, a month after my surgery, since I was no longer a full time student in college, since ya know I JUSST HAD MAJOR SURGERY lol

    After surgery diabetes

I'm one of the sad exceptions. I was borderline pre-diabetic and chose bypass hoping to stave off diabetes. For the first three months post-op, my fasting BG was around 70-80. But after the three month mark, it shot back up into the 90's, and today, two years out, it's right back to where it was originally -- typically 95-104 fasting. My A1C went from 4.9 right after surgery to 5.2, so I'm still reasonably okay, but the surgery did not change my situation at all.

    Bariatric Abdominal Binder

I had bypass on November 3 and it's very uncomfortable to sit down and stand up. Or to get up from laying down. I only have Tylenol which hasn't helped me much. I do have a binder but I didn't think it helped much. Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sandwiches and chips

Don’t be scared to drink. Just let your stomach settle for a little while. It sounds like you had no room for the water, and it simply tried to expand your stomach further. Well done for sorting it out - it doesn’t sound like dumping syndrome however, which is the effect of the food being processed in your gut. It sounds like you’d eaten something too indigestible or got a block from the food - maybe not chewed enough, or something clogging together. This is why when you vomited it felt better immediately. After my daughter had her bypass she had a number of times when she ate the wrong thing and it ‘clogged’ and the pain was awful, she said. It put me right off doing that when I had my operation. I have always remembered to stop eating before you feel full, and leave it for a bit to see how well your stomach deals with the food before eating more. Never eat to feel full… Feeling full after bypass or sleeve surgery is NOT a nice feeling at all.
  9. yes - I've been hanging out this and other boards for about seven years - and I've read several posts from revision patients saying the weight loss is slower after a revision.
  10. I had a sleeve to bypass due to gerd. It feels exactly like the sleeve but I get full on a couple of ounces. I can eat spicy foods and can tolerate anything up to date. Fruit skins were tough for the first two months.

Regrets for a Food & Wine Lover?

This post really made me think about my relationship with food and drink again. I’m three months out with my bypass tool. I did graze one weekend on Greek style pizza and wine. I really enjoyed the company, could enjoy the wine with only two ounces. I did pack away 4 slices over 2 hours though. I had to really work hard a solid week to get back to my weight before that gathering. Looking back, the free laughter outside with friends was what I enjoyed. It felt like the openness pre-Covid. Keeping the feelings and why needs to be in front all the time. I am reminded that surgery is just a tool. Being social with friends safely is precious, and my physical health doesn’t need to take a toll. I’m going to track on an online app next time and plan ahead better. But you won’t have to stop socializing either, because I equate socializing with positive mental health. Like me you will have to evaluate your food and drink pitfalls and navigate through your strengths and weaknesses. For me, each gathering, each person, each situation is different. I have go into the next one with a better plan, but I promise I will still enjoy the socializing!
  12. I’m a sleeve to bypass over 2 yrs out. My sugar tolerance is lower than with the sleeve so now I really look closely at the amount of sugar in items. Otherwise nothing else has change for me when it comes to tolerance.
  13. Hi I’m a sleeve➡️bypass I’m almost 3 weeks out, I wasn’t the model patient but I have to say 💯 that this surgery was so much easier than the first, I have tolerated everything so far very well (almost too well it worried me bc I had almost no constriction) feeling hopeful! My post-op appointment is on 11/9/21. The weight loss has Been much slower then when I had the sleeve, but again, feeling hopeful! Has anyone heard that with this conversation, you lose weight much slower, then it all falls off? Thank you in advance!
  14. Hi all. Just looking for some input from anyone who has had a revision from sleeve to bypass and if their tolerances have changed/unchanged.

    Revision

Hi! I just had a revision and hernia repair on the 2nd. The scale is showing I gained 6 pounds from the morning of surgery. How long does it take for all the fluid to get out of you?

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I’m two weeks from sleeve to Bypass and I have only lost 4lbs since surgery. My doc said I need to eat more calories and hit my protein. I just don’t have a desire for soups, hate milk so protein drinks I just can’t stomach anymore and everything so sweet. I been only getting 200 cals or less. I have one more week before I get to chew on food lol. Has anyone else had an unquenchable thirst? No matter what I drink or how much I am always dry mouth. Only thing that helps is popsicles.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I'm 4 weeks after my bypass. Mine stalled last week but back on track I'm losing around a kilo/2.2 pounds a week. I was so obsessed with it I put in my head as long as I lose or stay the same I'm doing fine. Body is learning. Good luck Xxx
  18. The rate of your loss isn’t important but looking after your health is. Lacking in energy & being unable to undertake physical activity before your main meal of the day likely is because of your diet & not taking your vitamins. I wasn’t eating that many more calories by goal at 6 months & I’m about your height. I struggled with lack of energy for a few months too but it was complicated by low blood pressure & random hypoglycaemic episodes (pre-existing). What helped was eating nutrient dense food - low carbs, low fat: protein, vegetables, fruit & dairy. It wasn’t so much the number of calories but the quality of the calories I consumed. The importance of taking vitamins post bypass should have been stressed to you before your surgery. Have you had any blood tests to check you are not lacking in essential vitamins & nutrients & your body is absorbing what you need effectively? Malabsorption issues is a concern with bypass. Best advice is to stick to your plan. Meet your protein goals. Add water to your total fluid intake & meet that goal too. Do you still see your dietician? Have you reflected on your dietary choices & made any changes to what you ate before surgery to what you eat now? And why you ate & made those food choices? And I’m not talking just portion size because you can physically eat more as time progresses & you can eventually stretch your tummy out again if you ignore portion considerations. Many find a therapist helpful when coming to terms with what drives them to eat. Ultimately, the extent of your success is up to you & your choices. Nothing will change in the long term if you don’t make the changes.
  19. you really do need to take your vitamins. Gastric bypass involves malabsorption of nutrients, so you could develop deficiencies over time. Some deficiencies you can recover from, and others not. Taking vitamins for life is part of the deal. on your other topic, if you stick to your plan, you'll eventually get to your goal. The closer you get to it, the slower the weight loss will be. The last few months I lost like 2 lbs (about a kilo) a month, but I kept at it and the weight loss didn't stop until I was 20 months out.

    November 2021 surgeries

I had my Bypass on November 3, the date changed on me several times. I'm finally made it to the losers club. They only give Tylenol at my hospital for pain. Sitting and standing up is the painful part. My blood sugar levels are already in the normal range. I'll be discharged tomorrow morning at 7:00 am Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Gummy Vitamins/ibuprofen

Gummies supposedly have fewer vitamins in them other forms of multis. Most surgeons tell you not to take them. ibuprofen (and all NSAIDs) have been "banned" for gastric bypass patients for years because they can cause ulcers. But more and more surgeons are now telling their sleeve patients not to take them, either. I take Tylenol instead now.

    Revision; VSG to RNY

I'm in the process of getting insurance to approve revision. They do not cover WLS but this is medical, severe reflux. I've been on a PPI for 2 years, and I'm back to 'eating' Tums every day as well. Just out of curiosity, what foods cause you to dump? My doctor considers it a plus because it keeps most people to be more disciplined with what we eat! If/when I do get a sleeve to RNY revision, I HOPE I experience dumping. Limiting sweets and fried foods would be a good thing!

Support - Post and Pre Op

@lizonaplane it can truly be a dilemma. I have not yet been in your position, however I can share that planning ahead has help me when I follow thru. But I am stubborn at times lol 😂. I have a huge support system, I do Over Eaters Anonymous they have a lots of meetings online, I love this forum. Besides my wife who did her’s gastric bypass 2 years ago. I am feeling happy with the decision I made, I though to meet must of the requirements with liquids since I do not feel hungry I found the dumping syndrome way of being to full though.
