Heartburn 8 months post op bypass surgery
catwoman7 replied to Kpolar's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
that's odd - normally bypass improves it (if you had it before) if not totally cures it. It's not that it couldn't happen but....certainly not a common thing. I wonder if it's something like a hernia (??). It's good they're doing the endoscopy - then you'll know for sure. Sorry you're going through this! -
Hi all I had my bypass in February and all the sudden i have been dealing with horrible burning in my throat and chest. I've been taking Omeprazole 20mg twice a day and even tried adding in a pepcid complete but I'm still suffering. I also sleep elevated. I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this. I need to have a endoscopy done.

Complex trauma/ developmental trauma
Smanky replied to Gen71's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Depending on what food you mean, and what procedure you're having, a lot of food that got us all obese in the first place isn't on the post-op plan (for good reason). Some people who are in maintenance are able to pretty much eat normally (though still a balanced diet), but bypass and SADI folks especially need to be mindful of making nutritious choices due to the malabsorption factor. High carb, high sugar and high fat foods can also bring on dumping syndrome. Thankfully the surgery really helps a lot of folks with reigning in cravings, and bad food loses most of its allure. As for coffee, I was offered it in the hospital along with my water and broth, whereas others are told never-ever. So it seems to depend on your surgeon's team. Hopefully someone with experience with emotional eating issues can help you out there, and I'm sorry for your trauma. That's rough. -

Any December 2021 bypass people?
ShannonCorbin replied to mrsjo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am having a RNY revision on Dec 13. I had my first RNY in 2010, lost about 130 lbs. I’ve gained about 40 back and have developed a hiatal hernia, so I’m getting the hernia repair and he will be further reducing my pouch and tightening my stoma. -
I’m 5 weeks post op from lap band conversion to gastric bypass and my hunger has already returned. I wish it hadn’t. I can eat without problems. I haven’t had any dumping problems. Is it weird that I wished I had dumping so it might deter me from eating. I’m good with my portions but I feel like I get hungry too soon. I get my water, protein and vitamins like I’m supposed to. Just thought I’d have more problems with eating. Maybe because my stomach wasn’t a virgin stomach. I had the lap band for 11 years. Who knows.

December 2021 Friends?

Me! I’m having surgery Dec 3 in Atlanta. I had lapband in 2010, lost 90 lbs. It slipped and almost killed me in 2014. Had revision to VSG in 2014 and now revision to bypass bc of severe GERD. Have Grade D esophagitis and been on protonix for years. Can’t wait to not have GERD anymore. Have gained about 10 lbs since 2014 and my weight right now is 154. Hoping to get down to 130’s. We will see if that happens! -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
LuckyCat replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey there! I’m scheduled for bypass on Dec. 1. (Originally set for September 15, but the hospital cancelled all elective surgeries because of Covid-related capacity issues, but they’re back on track now.) I toggle between being excited, impatient, anxious, and downright terrified. 😬 Starting pre-op diet next Monday (right in time for Thanksgiving, wooooo), so right now I’m kind of in a “farewell to food” spell. Today’s farewell involved pad thai. Alas. -
Vegans and Bypass surgery (Surgery date 10/8)
huskymama replied to curvygal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am actually a certified vegan nutritionist - was vegan all my life until I met my hubby! He’s a meat and potatoes guy part of my now weight issues. I found a lady on YouTube who had gastric bypass several years ago and she is vegan. She has great stuff on there - I don’t remember her channel but found her when searching bypass sleeve blogs and she popped up. She is older. If I find her I’ll post it But Warrior brand Protein Powder is Vegan and I love it. I’ve used it for years. I get my sleeve in December so I haven’t tried anything post op but there are a lot of choices for you! Oh just wanted to add - hummus! -
I had a gastric bypass in February of 2020. Since then, I have lost 150 pounds. I received notification about 2 weeks ago that my insurance approved my request for an abdominoplasty. I thought if I was approved, that it would only be approved for a panniculectomy and that I would need to pay the difference but because of some issues, they approved the full tummy tuck!! My surgeon initially scheduled me for February of next year but then called me last week with an opening for this Thursday! In just 2 days! I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. I think I have everything I need but I wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations or suggestions for me before I do this. I would really appreciate it!

Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
You Are My Sunshine replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@shopgirl Maybe.. I was there so I figured might as well. Fears? Complications. For sure. Fear of getting VSG and having to revise to RNY. Fear of something so permanent and not being able to go back. Like, if something does go wrong, I can't have a "re do." I was panicking thinking of them sucking my stomach out through my belly. I asked in my pre-op if I could pre-medicate and was told no, that they'd give me something in my IV. I told them I might not make it to the hospital. I wasn't joking. My husband was concerned that they wouldn't even operate on me considering I was in a huge panic. -
I know every surgeon is different, but I to- went in to speak with my original surgeon about a resleeve procedure and he advised that is was a bit of a tricky procedure and heavily weighed on whether there was dilation of the pouch and/or scar tissue. We decided against it and I'm currently in pre-op for revision to RNY (GERD, weight gain) Of course, do what you feel is appropriate for you, but make sure to ask a lot of questions because I didn't take a lot of things into consideration when bringing the idea forward. Good luck!!!

Support - Post and Pre Op
Smanky replied to EsojLabina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a large (unexpected) hiatal hernia repair with my bypass (dunno if the size of it mad a difference), and felt like I'd been hit by a bus during recovery. Took me a good two weeks to completely recover from it. Breathing in deep hurt. I'm glad it's fixed, but wow did I feel like a well-used punching bag for a while! -
Vegans and Bypass surgery (Surgery date 10/8)
Smanky replied to curvygal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello, vegan bypasser reporting! The struggle to eat solid food is real, and so I haven't been able to explore food like I might have. I get my 60+ grams of protein currently via my morning shake and afternoon protein water (I loathe both, but have to do it). I make sure I bump that protein up with Vitasoy Protein Plus soy milk, which is 10g of protein per 250ml. So I use that in my shake, and also in my daily unsweetened matcha latte. That covers my protein so I don't have to worry about it - all other protein via food is a bonus. I relied on soups and blended stews in the liquid phase, and in the soft food stage I've been eating scrambled tofu with vegan bacon and scallions (added nutritional yeast), eggplant shakshuka (our fave vegan cafe does a delectable one), hummus and fresh veg, tvp bolognaise without the pasta, and vegan sausages and seitans. My dietician supplied a nice vegan plan that included high protein vegan burger patties, curries, vegan yoghurt ( which I cannot eat because they're too sweet for me now), kiwi fruit, homemade baked beans, vegan cheese, teriyaki tofu etc. I can barely eat a 1/4 cup at a time, and at most 3 times a day, so I often times will just eat what I crave - a slice of fresh tomato, or a bean, or just a spoonful of whatever I've prepared. And honestly for non-vegans: vegans have no trouble finding enough protein. The only thing we struggle to get enough of is vitamin B, plants have us covered on everything else! -
Psych Meds after Gastric Bypass
EsojLabina replied to EsojLabina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@lizonaplane congratulations on ur weight loss, extended release medication would be a problem for people like me that did the bypass because of the anatomical changes down. You should not have any issues. I would still suggest to speak with your surgeon. -
Vegans and Bypass surgery (Surgery date 10/8)
curvygal posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi All - yes, its me again and I am reaching out about food ideas during the first two months post op. I am running out of food ideas for vegans and its getting quite boring and to be honest I would rather not eat. Food these days just doesn't look appealing anymore and its more of a chore to eat now. Any food suggestions or combinations to share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😃 -
Hi Everyone - I wanted to reach out and ask if anyone have headaches after the bypass. I have these headaches that last for 3 days at a time and not sure if it is due to the amount of food we are supposed to eat or the water we are supposed to drink. What can you take besides tylenol because that doesn't always help. Thanks, Lisa

Sleeve to Bypass worried about losing hair
newsam1154 replied to Tomo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I took biotin months before my first procedure with VSG to prevent hair loss and found that my hair loss was extremely minimal compared to others in the community. I still continue to take biotin to this day yet I'm still worried about hair loss with revision surgery coming up, haha! I hope it has helped you!!! -
It has been 4yrs since my (initial) WLS. Within that time I made great new friends, found love, had a revision, lost a parent, witnessed a pandemic from one of it’s epicenters, had plastics, had new additions to my extended family, relocated, had one child graduate from high school and more. Almost none of these things were weight related but somehow everything else in my life seemed easier to focus on without worrying about weight. My weight has been stable since I hit goal a few years ago with only minor fluctuations. I’m proud to say I will always identify as a WLS patient. I thought I wouldn’t feel like one years out but I find I am consciously honoring this lifestyle in the majority of my choices. I’m grateful we have this forum and I’m especially grateful to everyone in the WLS community that make it a positive and supportive environment to thrive in.

Sleeve vs Bypass concerns
You Are My Sunshine replied to ht1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started wanting the sleeve, then went to bypass, and am back to the sleeve (my doctor thinks that is the best option for me). At this point, I'm actually kind of terrified of bypass -- I just don't want it. I don't want a revision or anything, I want to steer clear of it. I'm not saying it isn't fantastic for others, not at all. So I worry (maybe weirdly) that having sleeve is opening me up to that possibility in the future.
