  1. Yes I get bored easily so most of the locations I travel to have 5K run/walks each week on Saturdays so I would spend the hour doing the 5K then find something to do the rest of the day. I walk about a mile each day so a 5K (3mile) is not hard.

    New Girl

Welcome to the site! I'm in the middle of my six month diet program. It's been good so far. I've met with the NUT three times and I'm now switching over to my PCP to finish it out. (My NUT is leaving to have a baby.) My PCP got sleeved last year so he's a big advocate of it and will fill out the form dating back to my physical in January, so it's basically cutting two months off the process! I'm glad my insurance requires this program. It gives me time to adapt and adjust to what my new lifestyle will be so I don't get hit with everything at once. I'm working on not drinking during meals, trying different Protein powders/drinks and adding exercise. It will be over before you know it and you'll be on the loser's bench! Good luck.

Really- best decision ever to have this surgery! It is hard sometimes, especially in the beginning. But all worth it. I'm 5 weeks post RNY and it's getting easier timing my water and meals, which was hard in the beginning. Good luck!! You will do great!!

    No pre op diet

My surgeon told me the exact same thing. Clear liquids the day before and nothing at all after midnight. I'm going to do all liquids for one week, though. I'd rather get used to it before all of the trauma on my body happens. Yay for you, though. That is definitely a huge plus!

    Pre Pre-Op Diet!?

My insurance wants us to lose 10% of our weight. So for me that is about 37 pounds. I’ve lost about 20. I should be getting a call to meet with the surgeon sometime this week.

    Pre-op

I start my preop diet next week but I went in for an EGD & my allergies was already kinda acting up. Anyway the EGD went great but now I'm coughing, sinus drainage & blowing my nose. Has this happened to anyone else?
  9. Hello Bandsters, I was banded on December 6th, and had to have it removed on Valentine's Day due to slippage. Very disheartening, to say the least. However, I am not giving up! I need to heal from this weeks' surgery, but now I am looking into the sleeve (which is probably the route I should have taken to begin with - who knew?) My body just did not gel well with the band. Any advice on the sleeve? The last few weeks have been very painful with eating due to the slippage, and food was always getting stuck. Do you get stuck with the sleeve? What does eating feel like? I know it's the same premise (small bites, small meals, no eating/drinking at the same time) but I'm wondering what the differences are. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! d

    Gastric Emptying Study

03/02/2014l 03/02/2014 Hi, I was curious why the Doctor decided to do the study for you? Have you been having re-flux problem's? I had never heard of this procedure until a few weeks ago when the doctor asked me if I would want to have one as I keep getting sick and the asthma doc thinks its a combination of re-flux and asthma making me cough all the time. Hope you are doing well. Have you heard whether this condition would stop you from having the surgery? Sincerely, Searching
  12. Hello: I had an EGD a couple of weeks ago and the doctor recommended a gastric emptying study because even though I hadn't eaten for more than 12 hours there was some food in my stomach. So, yesterday I had the gastric emptying study. The EGD also showed mild gastritis, mild esophagitis, and small hiatal hernia. I've had GERD for 20+ years. Has anybody else had this study done? Does anyone know if this study showed slow moving food out of my stomach will that squash my hopes of being sleeved? I appreciate anything you can share on this subject. Thanks. Sue
  13. Well I only have a few more days - I just found out my surgery time and when I have to be there - But I have a question - My diet says 1 week Clear liquids? Does this mean I can't have any Protein shakes that week?

Thanks for asking! I'm 2 weeks post/op today. I'm sore still due to hiatal hernia surgery at same time (I didn't know I even had one-discovered I have 3 hernias, actually! The other 2 will be fixed after I lose 100 lbs.-fun!) I returned to work last Mon. 10/22- too soon! Came home in tears, back to dr. on Tuesday and he said I was fine, I didn't tear anything (thought I did!), but I went to work too soon. He recommends 2 weeks off work and I tried to do only one. My bad! My empire BC BS is NY state employee (NYSHIP)-I'm civil service, secretary at elementary school. This surgery not only saved my life I believe-it is giving me a life! How I was living before last August was not living-it was a slow, pound by pound suicide! good luck! I am here for you!
  16. Hi, my name is Theresa Bailey. I live in Magnolia, DE. I had my surgery in Aug. 21, 2015..My SW was 250 CW 217. I only average 1.5 a week. A lot people claim it is because of my age. I am 5'4, and 64 yrs young. I have two major stokes and unfortunate for me they had me a lot of steroids and other meds that assisted my weight gain, (of course the rest of my own doing. Can someone help with the best ways to help boost my lost..I have registered to join the gym..any thing would be helpful..

    Oh sh*t!

Just ate my last supper before preop diet tomorrow. Makes it so real, it's freaking me out. Surgery day is thurs 10/3. I have 4 days of nothing but clear liquids. I'm scared of messing it up and ruining my surgery so I will be strong. My hubby is doing it with me believe it or not! Isn't he the best! Well see how long it lasts before we kill each other lol. So I just have to cook for my 5 year old. I've noticed a lot of us our going this week so good luck to us all and best wishes for speedy recoveries!
  18. Been lucking around and finally got the courage to post my story and ask my questions So i finally decided to take control of my life I'm hopping this surgery all works out for me I've been on the yo yo diet since jr high at my most I was 5'5 330 lbs 1.5yrs ago but finally opened my eyes when I could not fit in the Disney rocket ride with my 1 yr old and I knew I had to do something about my weight or I would not be around for my family, that same week i was passed on a promotion at work and found out from co workers that our boss didnt think i would be able to "fit" in the sewers ( i work in sewer rehab construction ) as of today I'm 232lbs Ok so I have my surgery scheduled for 3/18 with Dr Ortiz and Dr Lopez, any way I have to go on a pre op diet of Protein Shake for Bfast small fruit for snack, Protein shake for lunch and for dinner chicken breast grilled, then 3 days b4 the 18th I need to do an all clear liquid diet along with a cleanseing. So my question is did you guys have a last hurrah and if so what did you have? I so want to have a last hurrah but I just don't know if I should since that's really what got me here in the first place. All comments are welcome, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section

  21. Just got approved for VSG last week and am scheduled for next Monday--4/25. Have gained weight since process started in 12/10 and was chastised by surgeon. Will start liquids tomorrow. Has anybody else had weight gain and then gone thru surgery? I'm less than 300 lbs and am nervous now.

    Time

I had to wait until insurance came back with the approval to get on the surgeon's schedule. My turn around was a week. I very sweetly called insurance daily.

    Foods

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. My thoughts, cereal, bread, crackers, pizza, cookies, cake, have no place in my home, 3 years since surgery. If it were here, I might slip. No, I would slip. After the sleeve you really can eat all the cereal you want, you can eat pizza every day of the week. You can eat it and never lose weight. I dearly love homemade biscuits, gravy, and chicken and dumplings like my Mother taught me. I really miss them but I could not wear my new clothes if I eat them. It is a choice. Make sure you are ready to change your life. Good luck girl!

    Apps

I use myfitness pal. I don't track any food on MFP, I'm too lazy for that, but I weigh every week and when i tracked my inches I put them in there. I don't think it stores pictures though. Maybe SparkPeople does?

    What happens after surgery

Hey! First off, don’t worry, you will be fine I promise.. I have serious anxiety as well but I’ve been able to remain calm through all this. I am 1 week post op as of today. I’m gonna be honest, my stay in the hospital was pretty bad. I have a high pain tolerance but this hurt me like hell. I felt crappy for the first maybe 3 days. I feel great now, I have no limitation besides not lifting over 30 pounds. I think you will struggle with having energy though. I have no energy right now. I would say 2 maybe 3 weeks you’ll be back at work. Good luck with surgery!
