Hey hon! I'm so excited for you!! You should do some research! Studies show that after WLS plastics are very beneficial for long term success. I'm not sure if they know quantitatively "how" it works yet, but one hypothesis is that the further tightness of the muscles and skin make a "living girdle" so to speak that reinforces your restriction and it adds to ongoing satiety. Win win, right!? So consider that when making your choice. I'd ask the surgeon for proof that your muscles are very tight and need no extra firming!! And my opinion is that you should fersure do the fleur de lis. But I also think you might want or need the underlying muscle work too? Only you know...Also ask @BigViffer and @BlueCrush and @Healthy_life2 what their experience is with how tight their abdomens are from their lifting. So maybe it IS possible to get super tight toned without cutting the muscles? Sorry to butt in!!! Just thoughts to ponder!

I always peel the skin off of mine

You need to ask your fish guy to scale it for you first. Then you make small scores in the skin and cook it skin side down until crispy, then flip it and finish cooking it. It's delish, but it's also the place where most of the contaminants gather like dioxin, pcbs, heavy metals. So anymore, I eat it only once in a blue moon.

New to this thread, hi beautiful people! This is my outfit for heading out to walk my dog and run some errands. Never in a million years would I have worn a crop top in public before now! Also strategically posing to hide my arms heh heh heh I feel that clothes sizing struggle so much... I feel like I buy a new pair of pants or shorts and then by the time I get the chance to wear them they’re already loose. I’m bleeding $$!

Damn. Am I the only one that DGAF? I will wear whatever I want, whenever without care as to how my loose skin, arms, etc *might* look to others I'm super satisfied with my clothed body these days and buy a size I know I can fit. Summer is gonna get the body I give it

I'm in my upper 40's and this is my 2nd go-'round with WLS. When I had Lap-Band surgery in 2005, I was younger and more "pliable". Having lost the same amount of weight with each surgery, I feel qualified to compare 30's vs 40's. In my 30s, I didn't notice any sagging or wrinkling. I was happy. I felt good, I looked good (makes me wonder how/why I allowed myself to get right back where I started, but that's another story). Now, a little over a decade later, I'm more wrinkly and saggy. Not significantly and nothing I cannot hide under clothing, but I noticed it and it makes me self conscious. I also noticed crepey skin on my thighs. Again, easily covered with clothing. But the worst by far is the saggy, flappy upper arms. I try not to go out in public without these flappers covered (hard to do in Texas 100 degree heat by the way). I started this 2nd journey with no intention of plastic surgery, but I'm telling you...when I hit my goal, I am going to see someone about these arms and if my finances allow, I'm getting them taken care of.

It isn't just us with such a frustrating problem- the actress Cybill Shepherd was quoted as saying after her twin pregnancy she had a time when she folded up her post- pregnancy skin and tucked it into her bottom clothing, Maybe They were styles from Rodeo Drive, but even the famous. have it too!

Thanks ♥️ ...but the position of my arm is hiding my glorious batwing. And the loose skin on my stomach is much more prominent in real life. Though I'm relatively good with it for now. I mean, I did wear this outfit in PUBLIC. lol. I would never have dared do this before. I wouldn't have even walked around in something like this in the privacy of my own home.

Anyone get surgery without "needing" it?
Bianca S. replied to Ryanasaurus's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Same with me but with occasional asthma when sick or during allergy seasons. My BMI is over 35 at the age of 22 and been told by my primary doctor that I need to loose weight because unless unless I want to be pre-diabetic or want any health issue to come my way. Weight loss diets and exercise didn’t work for me and trust me I’ve done challenges at one of the gyms I live near and I would maintain but eventually gain back the weight and even more -
Don't see it!!! Still looks very good on you!!![emoji108][emoji108][emoji108] You look absolutely fit with hardly any loose skin!! Wow!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Medicare or any insurance coverage only covers skin removal. I was told the reconstructive surgeon does not tighten muscles or assure the skin is tighten completely. The insurance only covers the excess skin removal.

February 2019 weight loss buds
gabybab replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I finally started losing a little faster the last week. These stalls are stressful! I have 87 pounds STILL to go to my Dr's weight. I think if I lose that much, it will get a good weight, as I suppose I will have extra hanging skin that will weight a bit. Good luck to us all in achieving our goals. Please check in!! -
LOVELY & your clothes are now too loose 😳 what sizes are you buying these days?
-
I really appreciate your perspective. Loose skin does seem to be something a lot of us newbies spend a lot of time thinking about. I have decided to wait at least a year after I reach goal to decide if I want any kind of surgery. That will give my brain time to catch up with my body. It probably just won't matter then. Losing the weight and getting my life back is a much higher priority in the grand scheme of things.

loose skin is a very individual thing depending on so many factors. Some people have a lot of it, others don't. It's hard to tell how yours is going to be. Like the above poster said, your age is a big advantage, but you're probably going to have at least some with a 100 lb loss. For most of us, though, it's pretty easy to hide. I knew mine was there, of course, as did my husband and doctor, but no one else did. Most of mine was in my abdomen, so I just tucked the skin into my jeans or leggings and wore slightly oversized, longish tops to cover it up. Ta da! Gone. I did finally get sick of looking at it, though, and had it removed, but I highly doubt anyone who sees me can tell a difference. Naked - yes - but with clothes on - no. I just want to add that a majority of pre-ops and early post-ops seem to be really obsessed with loose skin. I've worked with pre-op groups for the past two years and that question comes up EVERY TIME. I would also say that after losing all that weight, many of us (me too!) wonder why we wasted even one brain cell worrying about it. Losing a ton of the excess weight MAJORLY offsets the loose skin thing. I would take my loose skin any day over weighing 300+ lbs again. ANY DAY!!!! btw - here is a picture of me BEFORE I had plastic surgery. I lost over 200 lbs. See all that loose skin? I don't, either...

Every person is different. Your young age is a big advantage for you. Your skin will be more elastic. If you lose more than 100 pounds, you are going to have some loose skin, no doubt. But.... there are ways to cope and your health is a lot more important than outward appearance. I am 63 and I have loose skin, but by golly, I earned every bit of it! I feel quite wrinkly and old looking, especially in my face and neck, but more than a few people have told me I look 10 year younger. Go figure. Maybe I look younger because I FEEL 10 years younger, have more zip, and am much happier and more confident. As you get thinner and feel better, I think others pick up on the positive vibes and don't even notice the wrinkles or looseness! They just see the new you!

What mind games do you play???
Born in Missouri replied to Krestel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've mentioned my body dysphoria several times and it's been over a year. I still find myself lurking in the 3x-4x plus size section even though I can easily fit into an XL (sometimes an L). I can't seem to stop searching for my next "fat uniform". I've never been a tight, form-fitting kind of gal, but the "tent look" is definitely hard to give up. I have a difficult time accepting flattery and continue to doubt those who say, "You look great." I just don't see it. It's not my batwings or lose skin as one might suppose, it's just my overall self-outlook. I'm not stupid. I know I'm different. I know I probably look different, too, but I just don't know how to deal with the new me without wondering if maybe it's just a dream and I'll eventually wake up 300lbs again. I haven't thrown away any of my fat uniforms (or given any of them away either; I don't believe in discarding perfectly good clothing that can be resold at a thrift shop to benefit some cause.) My dietitian offered to make a dog bed blanket out of my "favorite" fat uniform, but I never dropped it off for her to repurpose. -
I’m 24 and weight 335 lbs. my surgeon and nurse both told me that I wouldn’t have skin and if I did, it would be a small amount. I have an extremely hard time believing them considering how big I am. It’s not a main concern but it does bother me a little. I’m actually driving myself a little nuts with this 🙄🙄

Finally Feeling Great about Gastric Sleeve
Jobber replied to bookworm88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing about the Gastric sleeve is that it's a slow and steady drop. It's probably better for your loose skin situation to lose it more slowly anyways. This is a marathon, not a race, pace yourself and be patient. You'll get there. -
Realizing just how fat I was...and still am
jasmineinmymind replied to MikeIL's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel the same way. I feel like I'm at a decent weight now, meaning I'm not plus size anymore and I look a lot better than I did but my mind goes to the weight I still have to lose. I feel like I'm still fat and I cant just enjoy my success so far. I agree we all have some dysmorphia. Probably years of feeling like a failure. Its hard to get rid of those negative feelings. I think also, most of us lose weight and start to sag and get flabby in certain places and that makes the weight loss less positive. The loose skin is the biggest downside to weight loss for sure. One thing I can say...I gave my old clothes to a co worker who apparently was my size when I started and I CANT BELIEVE how big she looks. I had no idea I was that big. So I didnt know how fat I was in the beginning and I dont know how 'thin" I am now. I have a distorted image of myself apparently at every stage. -
Spanx do wonders for my loose skin. My mid-section is an issue. My waist measurements are very different when I wear them. From 29-inch waist to a 26. (gives you the idea of how much skin I have) My clothing fits so much better when I have shapewear on. (my last photo is spanx off)

Im sure hundreds have felt this way BUT MY BOOBS ARE GONE!
Healthy_life2 replied to BlueAngelEyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body is going through rapid to change. Be kind to yourself As women. I think we are too critical about out perceived flaws. We put a lot of value on our appearance. I hope your weight loss and new found energy will boost your self esteem. See how you feel about loose skin after goal. Decide if its livable or you can investigate plastics. It may be time to work on soothing emotions with food. We are all a work in progress.☺️
