  1. I lost 30 pounds my first 2 weeks from surgery. Now I have not lost a pound for 10 days. Is this normal? I regularly exercise and eat as my surgeon suggest. I have lost inches during this phase. I am just wondering how long will these plateaus last and what should I do while experiencing them?
  2. Tomorrow makes 2 months since my band to sleeve revision and I am down 35 lbs. I have also been going to the gym 5 days a week and I am eating very healthy. I do think that I still would lose if I were not doing the working out and eating healthy, maybe I would not have lost quite as much. The sleeve won't allow you to eat a ton of food but if you drink a milkshake then that might keep you from losing. I find the sleeve is 1,000 better than the band. I have never thrown up my food with the sleeve where as I threw up every meal with the band. It has been soooooo much easier to make the lifestyle change with the sleeve versus the band. You can also go read up on LilMissDiva on this site. She has lost 100 lbs since her band to sleeve revision which I believe was almost a year ago, and I think she is in a size 4. I also think that she works out quite a bit and eats very healthy. I suppose you can fail with the sleeve but I would think that would be very hard to do and that person might just not be ready to make the changes necessary. My doctor told me that the surgery is only 50% and that I have to put in the other 50%, and I believe that statement to be very true. Good luck to you, you are going to love your sleeve way better than the band
  3. Congratulations....that is great....hang in there....I did the two week liquid pre-op....same diet...slim fast for four days, then able to have a small green salad, with ff dressing....I lost 14 lbs on pre-op diet...that just gave me a jump start and I was so anxious to have the surgery...you will make it thru the liquid diet....just stay well hydrated...drink as much water as you can....and again, congratulations....come to the site often....you will get lots of support from everyone here...

Pain in left chest area - just left of center

The gas can be surpisingly painful . If I didn't know better I would have sworn I was having a heart attack. I was banded May 18 th and got my first fill June 16th . It feels too tight to me. I have had some pretty tuff gas pains the past week. I am almost scared to eat . I have lost 32 lbs. (counting the pre-band diet). I haven't eat any bread or other problem foods I was warned about . I am keeping Gas-X in business too ! lol. I am happy with the weight loss and very concerned about the gas pains. I have done a few searches and we are not alone with the weird gas pains. However, that doesn't make me feel any better . This is band is controlling me for sure. I tolf my doc....." This thing will talk back to you and LOUDLY ! :blushing: if abused. I hope we toughen up and learn to live with it . Right now .......I am not too happy . Reading everyones advice has been very hepful too. I am not much on posting messages but I check here everyday. I am hurting now with gas pains and ........Well , Like Bill Clinton said: " I feel your pain !" I have not had any acid reflux or even came close to throwing up either. I have been on a very bland diet too. I will experiment with what I can and can't eat and just see how it goes. Good luck and keep the Gas-X handy.
  5. I'm still pending insurance approval, but the doc's office called to give me a date because the insurance company needs a date to approve. April 16th! I had doubts about the operation up until I met with the surgeon just recently actually for the first time. Now I feel more positive about everything even though I still have just a general fear of surgery which I guess everyone has a little. Just that something will go wrong and I'm leaving behind my beautiful 14 mo old. Anyway..sorry to be morbid there for a second. Keep your fingers crossed for approval! I should probably know something early next week.
  6. Im just starting my revision process, from lap band to gastric sleeve. I'm waiting on the insurance approval. I have UHC Choice Plus. I'm really excited this change. Not that I don't like my lap band, cause it has helped me to lose some weight, but I'm just not where I want to be. I have been at the same weight for a year now and that is 218. I started at 261 three years ago. So I need some change!! I'm just hoping I get approved!!!

    so this was weird...

Very scary..... I get cramps in my legs and feet when my potassium is low. There is the Vitiman drink that has 880 mg of potassium and I try to have one of them like 2x week which helps get that extra boost of potassium
  8. I had planned on keeping it a secret but after surgery, the weight started coming off and my diet had changed. I had to take time off work for the surgery and follow-up appointments and fills so it was just easier to tell everyone. And I have no regrets there, everyone was curious at first but for the most part supportive, especially when the weight started coming off. Fear of failure is natural. We have failed at weight loss our whole lives. I was sure that I would fail too and the thought of doing something so drastic and failing horrified me. But since everyone knew, I felt as though I was being held accountable. But honestly, If you stick with the rules and maintain your fills, you will not fail. Since everyone knows, there have been no huge social issues. I've had a few instances where we had get-togethers or outings with extended family and friends or lunch meetings at work and their choice of food or restaurant did not work for me and that makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't want others to have to change their plans to suit me so I just make due. When I eat out, I order regular meals and a takeout container, I keep 1/3 of the food on my plate and take the rest home for later. Honestly, I did not have an exercise program for the first 6-7 months. I have never really been a couch potato and as the weight came off, I developed more energy and became even more active. I have a dog so have always walked. Those walks became longer and more energetic and as the energy increased I also managed to ge more accomplished in the day. Now that I am closer to goal I am seeing areas that need some toning. I am not ready for the gym scene so I chose to join Curves. I like the environment and think it is a good starting point for me. It is just a block from my work and on my way and since it is a quick 30 minute workout I think it is something that I can stick with. I've only been a member for a couple weeks though...

    Recent absess surgery

I had my sleeve surgery on March 30 and had to have an emergency Hemorrhoidectomy on April 7. I am on Lortab liquid every 4 hours and its making me sick. At this point I choose to be sick over being in pain. Hope it gets better for you soon. The thing I hate is that I have not lost a single pound in the past week. Being immobile sucks!!!
  11. I had to have a major abscess removed surgically last week. The antibiotics are causing me to dump. Has anyone had this problem and did you find one that didn't cause dumping?
  12. I am scheduled to be banded on 8/7/09. I am going to Juarez Mexico and going through Belite. Due to my very high BMI I have to start the PreOp diet three weeks prior to the surgery. Which means I have to start it right in the middle of our vacation to Colorado. Anyone have any suggestions on travel food? I'm kinda at a loss! Thanks, Patty

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet --- ARGH!!!!

I am on post-op day two of liquids. I was following the eating plan my doctor put me on. We started fluids a day early. So, it's 4 days total. I'm pretty tired and I've just been packing my hospital bag, organizing my kitchen so I'm ready to go for week 1 liquids. I'm definitely feeling an early bed-time a long struggle at the office tomorrow. My grand-father was put in the hospital this week as well, so super stressed.
  14. That's great your home. The first week was hard for me i couldn't get more than a couple oz's an hour but it was all worth it. Just remember everyday dose get easier Sent from my DROID RAZR using RNYTalk
  15. I had my surgery 4/13 and am already eating a little finely minced tuna, and was able to eat 3 ozs of broiled flounder last night. I was told that I would not feel hungry but I do, I was making my self 2 oz egg white omletts 7 days after surgery with no problem, I have lost 25 lbs in 10 days so I'm not too worried now, but I thought I would feel way more restricted. I still do two protein shakes a day and at first I had to drink it over 2 hours. Now I can finish it in less than 1/2 hr. Some people are still on liquids three weeks after surgery, and I'm justd that I'm not going to see the full benefit of this life altering procedure. Comments???
  16. My surgery was 4/21 and the first three days were a bitch but now I'm on day 5 and I'm drinking water and protein better broth is going down great I haven't weigh myself yet waiting for doctors visit. I'm just amazed how our bodies heal so quickly thank you Jesus he brought me threw this hang in there everybody we will all get through this one day at a time!!
  17. I am a week out. Chapstick!! Your lips and mouth are going to be so dry and I made my grandma leave and buy me chapstick and it felt so much better. Loose fitting clothes to go home in, and possible a robe of some sort to put over tour back cause they will probably make you walk the halls after surgery. Good luck on your journey!
  18. I'm heading in for appointment number 1 today. I've got my binder all ready to go. They are going to think I'm a nut. It has the notes I took during my information session via webinar; a calendar for the several date options I would like to consider based on my teaching schedule (April, May, July); my documentation proof of 6 months of supervised diets as required by my insurance; copies of recent blood work and EKGs from my recent gallbladder surgery; pages of stuff I've found on this site and most importantly my list of questions for today. I've been thinking about WLS since 2004 when my then 60 year old mother had her bypass. I was heavy, but not heavy enough. I can remember joking with my PCP about being more than capable of gaining a few more pounds to qualify. But at the time I was working for United Airlines and our insurance policy specifically excluded all kinds of WLS. So I never actually thought I would be walking into a surgeon's office for this discussion. I retired from United and gained 35 pounds over the 10 years- neither of which I thought would happen. I'm a life long dieter. Diet pills in high school when I weighed 140lbs; Weight Watchers in college dropping from 160 to 140; Jenny Craig, many attempts at WW, South Beach, Atkins and most recently Ideal Protein. I even took Redux in the FenFen era. I have really good BCBS insurance now. Unfortunately I pay a fortune for it because my husband lost his job and we pay cobra. But since the payment is as big as the mortgage, I figured I should take advantage of it while I have it. The requirements for approval are surprisingly few- Be 18, have a BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbid conditions; complete a psychological examination and participate in either a 6 month structured diet program or 2 three month consecutive programs. I'm 48. My BMI is 42. I did WW for 7 months in 2013 and Ideal Protein via my cardiologist for 9 weeks. I take BP medicine, a low dose aspirin, and a nitrate to reduce chest pains caused by a totally blocked small artery in my heart. So with the exception of the pysch eval- I'm already done with my requirements. It was a comment during a snow storm this winter that was really my light bulb moment. My 17 year old and husband headed out to sled one day and my daughter made a comment that broke my heart- She said "Mom, have you ever gone sledding with us? I can't remember even one time" OUCH! The truth hurts. I haven't done anything with my kids over the last 10 years and now they are all grown up. (17 & 20) I don't think my daughter ever understood because she was very heavy but never slowed down. I think she just thought I didn't want to do anything with them. Breaks my heart and I need to change that by being active with them moving forward. I want the 4 of us to do a Mud run kind of thing or ride the roller coasters at Cedar Point with them. (side note: my daughter stayed on WW and lost 65lbs in 2013 unlike the hubby and I who weigh more now) I have enjoyed lurking on these boards for the past view weeks and look forward to taking the plunge with all of you. Happy Friday!!! Amy
  19. If your surgery is July 18, you should be right around my surgery weight (232) by then. I have been low-carbing and exercising. I mean really low carb, under 30 a day. I go swimming for 45 minutes twice a week and run for 30 minutes 3 times a week. I am 56, post-menopausal, and have hypothyroidism, so you should be able to do AT LEAST as well as I have, and I expect you'd do better. I had a knee injury that restricted movement in May and the scale showed it--only 4 lbs for the month. Good luck, and Aruba is beautiful! Go diving or snorkeling!

Time to Buckle Down: Here’s How It’s the New Year! That means the parties stop, the holiday treats disappear, and the stores advertise healthy foods for weight loss. Breathe a sigh of relief as the holiday food goes away! Easier to Focus There’s a good chance you slipped up a little during the holidays and need to get back on track. Even if you were perfectly disciplined, you may appreciate going back to your regular life. It’s easier stick to your everyday routine when there aren’t as many distractions. Go with a Sensible Plan For most WLS patients, a detox or fad diet isn’t the way to go. The most effective is to go back to the basics, cliché as that sounds. Focus on lean proteins and fill up on vegetables. Drink a lot of water. Eat slowly. Plan ahead. Measure your portions and log every bite. Make a Few Resolutions Remember to make them controllable, feasible, and clear. Here are some examples of better and less good resolutions. Controllable: “I will log every bite of food and stick to my 1,200 calories a day.” Not controllable: “I will lose 2 pounds every week.” You can’t control what the scale says, but you can control what and how much you eat. Feasible: “I will work out 5 days a week, leaving myself 2 days to recharge.” Not feasible: “I will work out every day.” What happens if you get sick, need a little extra sleep, or need to take a friend to the doctor? Did you fail at your resolution? Clear: “I will have fish three times a week.” Not clear: “I will eat more fish.” How do you know if you’re following your resolution if your goal is to eat “more” fish? How much is “more?” Set the Stage for Success Regardless of your specific resolutions, you’ll make more progress in your weight loss surgery journey if you set up your environment to help you succeed. Clear out your kitchen – pumpkin pie, egg nog, and Christmas cookies should be nowhere to be found. Restock it with nutritious foods you need. It should be packed with lean proteins, such as chicken, fat-free dairy products, tuna, eggs, and beans. There should be fresh vegetables and fruit, plus frozen and canned ones to do in a pinch. Round it out with some whole grains such as oatmeal, and healthy fats such as nuts and olive oil. Get your kitchen scale and measuring cups out of storage and put them in a prominent place. Check the gym schedule, get out your workout clothes, and lace up your walking shoes so you’re ready to get out the door for some exercise. There are some extra steps you can take to make progress easier this year. For example, if you’re still gathering information on weight loss surgery and trying to choose a surgeon, make a list of surgeons’ phone numbers and questions so you’re ready at a moment’s notice to make the necessary calls. Make Those Resolutions Last All Year! This year, make it easier to keep your New Year’s Resolutions with a subscription to your weight loss products from The BariatricPal Store. Choose your favorite protein bars, shakes, and smoothies, bariatric vitamins, instant meals, and great-tasting snacks. You’ll be reminded to focus on your goals every time you receive a delicious delivery from The BariatricPal Store! Just select “Subscribe and Save” on eligible products. Receive your products every 1, 2, or 3 months (your choice). Choose the quantity you want to receive. Get an automatic 10% discount on your subscription items. When your healthy meals are delivered year-round, there’s no need to go off your meal plan. You save time and can be confident of being nourished while you lose weight. That’s what we have for this newsletter. We wish you the best in your weight loss surgery journey in 2016, and hope you’ll keep sharing your goals and progress with us on the forums. Again, Happy New Year!

    Gastric Bypass 11/15/13

You may not see any loss for a few days after surgery, because you have been pumped full of Fluid. I started losing about two days after surgery and averaged a lb per day for about three weeks. I then stalled for about a week then lost about another 5 lbs and at a complete stall now. Going to have to have nothing but Protein, no carbs to get it moving again. I'm not really one to be compared to as I only had 60 lbs to lose to start with as I was banded until I had to have it removed and had to have bypass.
  23. Does everyone get it? I'm pre op but preparing myself with all the supplies i need before my surgery in two weeks. It seems that many people suffer from severe heartburn. Is this true? What can i get just in case I end up with heartburn. Will it be for the rest of my life? Thanks!

    Is this normal?

Thanks Libra, I am hoping your right I really truly don't want another unfill at this point. My TOM's are so unpredicdable right now I guess from the weight loss that I never know when its going to happen. I am actually 3 weeks late (no way possible I am pregnant that was taken care of years ago) so I keep praying for the first time ever to get my monthy friend hahaha. What worries me most is the heartburn/indigestion thing going on. I have read alot about that being a symptom of slipage or some other kind of probloems.
  25. Hi everyone! So it's Day 2 of MediTrim and I've got some wicked headaches... Like crazy. Last night I had to wake up 3 times to get Tylanol. I normally get wicked headaches instead of getting sick and stuff, but these headaches were so bad that they actually woke me up. In the past I've had headaches wake me up, maybe once a night, but never three times. I'm going to call the office and ask her if there is anything I can do. But did anyone else ever experience this?
