  1. Take boiled chicken, throw it in the food processor add celery, onion, spices, then take 2tbls. Lite mayo and 1/4 cup FF Greek plain yogurt. Mix together to consistency you need or like. Delicious and better than all that mayo! This made my day since I am in the puréed week. Made larger batch to eat tomorrow or 4th of July picnic! Hope you enjoy!
  2. lol! If I had a nickel before every time I wish I said I could eat more I'd have well, not even a nickel. Now, I'd have at least enough for a cheap pedi. Really though, if you can stomach the Isopure, that does't sit as heavy in the stomach as the milk based shakes. If you can get even half of one per day that's an extra 20 grams of Protein. I was on only liquids for 3 weeks so yogurt and pudding were off limits for me. At 3 weeks I did start making spike pudding and that helped with the calories and protein. You are rocking it my friend, keep it up! Dang on the straw though, thought I was gonna get to yell at you and get all judgey. Now I gotta go find someone else to pick on.
  3. I can have skim milk, yogurt, pureed fruits, crystal light, and broth. For some reason, the sweet stuff is making me gag so I have been surviving on broth. I switched to Flinstones complete until next week when I start puree.

    Eating post op

Mine was April 25 and I've not been hungry. Forcing myself to drink protein shakes and today, I added yogurt. I was told after two weeks, I could introduce soft foods...eggs, tuna, etc.

    Post op 6 weeks...

Yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, avocado, cheese sticks, refried Beans , mashed up meatballs with some sauce and ricotta. I pretty much only drink Water. Sometimes I splash some Light cranberry juice in it. Or float some lemons, limes or cucumber for flavor.
  6. I haven't been the fastest loser but I would try to find things that make you feel your restriction better. For me steak or chicken over fish. Shrimp is good. I stay away from any carbs that don't make you feel very full. For me, if I feel hungry at the end of the day I eat half an apple and that texture makes me feel full and satisfied. I might be able eat 200 calories easily of fat free yogurt and still feel hungry later. There was a great post about how restriction works (pyloric valve) once but I couldn't find it. Most importantly don't let anyone on this board make you feel like you are failing. Everyone has a different experience. Good luck!
  7. Hello everyone! I had my surgery on sept 1st... My doc moved me to soft foods, and haven't lost any weight... in fact I gained 4 pounds... I feel like I am a failure :blushing:... well, to start with the first 2 weeks I was so swollen, I couldn't get anything down, not much Water, no Protein shakes at all. Then I started eating nonfat Dannon plain yogurt and the swelling went away 2 days later. Now I'm on soft foods and I feel like I don't have any control. I gained weight! I eat 3 meals a day, no snacking even though they say to eat 6 mini meals a day during this stage... for instance for Breakfast I would have a light babybel cheese with 4 kashi tlc crackers or have a Protein shake, lunch I have a cup of nonfat cottage cheese, and for dinner I would have 2 pieces of gefilte fish (quick and easy) yesterday I went to the renaissance faire and had a scoop of muscle milk Cookies and cream with 2 cups of nonfat milk for breakfast, and for lunch had a bread bowl of brocolli and cheese Soup minus the bread, and a bite of my husbands turkey leg, and for dinner we went to applebees for and i had a whole french onion soup and about 5 tbs of loaded mashed...i got on the scale and gained 2 extra pounds... yesterday, i had no control and didnt feel full at all... now, im depressed:frown: and don't know what to do, where to begin... I feel like Im the only one in this situation and I'm not even 3 weeks out... I see other people posting that they are losing weight, i need some motivation and some tips, help!?????

    1st Post op Visit

Today was my first visit with my surgeon post op. Good news is that I am down 14 pounds since surgery two weeks ago. Woo Hoo! Bad news, or not so good news is I dont feel very much restriction right now so the pureed food doesnt do much to satisfy me. The surgeon said my first fill will be Nov 8th! I cant wait. Then at least I will feel full when eating these small amounts. Other than that I am good. The itching is starting to subside more and more wiht my healing. I am noticing my clothes getting much looser. I tried a little tuna salad for lunch today. Just ate it from a little cup. It was good. :-) Anyone else have some good ideas for this pureed stage? Ive tried soups, refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, oatmeal, and now tuna salad. Have a great week everyone!

    Post op- puréed protein ideas

Honestly? Embrace boring. Embrace eating simply and very small. Encourage food apathy where you just barely eat to fill the small real estate you have. Get busy learning new things! Pick a hobby. Add a creative activity. This is the time when it's SUPPOSED to be boring and routine and easy. You want to ideally kinda break up with your fixation for food and for truly slap-your-mama appealing cuisine. I quit the Food Netwook, Food Channel, commercials, cooking mags, cook books, etc until I was well into my routine and new life. I went from full liquids to mushies (fork tender and chew to puree) skipping puree state but I ate: yogurt cottage cheese canned chicken and chicken gravy (low cal, low carb, low fat) roasted smashed cauli with chicken gravy (low cal, low carb, low fat) turkey lunch meat (Hillshire Farms) tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad whizzed until chopped very fine and very wet with Greek yogurt and Dijon mustard sf jello sf popsicles pumpkin puree "refried" in a tiny bit of ghee for flavor protein pudding protein drinks homemade bone broth defatted cream soups with protein added to it green smoothies made with high protein milk, protein powder, frozen spinach, frozen blueberries, greek yogurt mocha and peppermint frappacinos made with protein powder, decaff coffee, ice, sf torani peppermint and chocolate syrups And the time passed so quickly...

    Triple Zero

Looks good. I'll try them in place of my Activia Light yogurt. Too bad they come in 5 oz. portions, though. The 4 oz. Activia's are a better size for me.

    Purée Meals

Here's a day for me: Breakfast: 1/4 cup malt-o-meal or oatmeal made with skim milk mid-morning: 1/2 protein shake lunch: cottage cheese with applesauce, refried beans with cheese, cream soup (1/4 cup) mid-afternoon: 1/2 protein shake dinner: chicken and mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy, tuna and a mushy vegetable (carrots, peas) if needed: greek yogurt, SF pudding with protein powder (1/4 cup) I got a sample meal plan from my nut and have been following that---it's been plenty of food, even though it seems like such a tiny amount! The protein shake helps me hit my protein goal.

    Purée Meals

I ate a lot of -Greek yogurt - refried beans** - soup** (I bought a vitamix, and they have FABULOUS pureed soup recipes on their website) - mashed potatoes** - cottage cheese - Egg salad (w/o the celery) - Tuna salad - Pureed, cooked carrots, green beans, edamame, and other veggies! - Protein shakes, I usually had at least 1 per day. ** with added unflavored protein powder
  13. Well, my dad and my husband both regained some of the weight back (Dad gained about 60 lbs over the past few years, and husband gained back 15 lbs over the last year) because unlike me, they didn't feel the need to watch what they ate cuz they had the stomachs of hamsters for so long. And yet somehow that still manages to piss me off: "These mothafuckas get to eat whatever they want, and they still look like Sally Struthers should be raising money for them. And I am eating yogurt for lunch and LOOKING LIKE SALLY STRUTHERS!" :-P

    Liquid Preop Diet

Some programs include all kinds of gloppy things like puddings and yogurts as a "full liquid" while others go by a more classic definition (such as you can drink it through a straw....but don't use a straw!) So, it's another area where one needs to defer to one's surgical team as to what they want. It's an area where things like that never came into question on my doc's program as it never had a liquid only stage.
  15. I have what I consider to be ideal restriction, though I am not as tight as Donali, but maybe close. I take four medicines daily including one which is a large pill that has a smooth coating. I take another large pill that is an aspirin-type texture and that one I cut into three peices and cross my fingers. But so far, I haven't had a problem. Just after surgery when I was on liquid and mush, I crushed my pills. I would put the crushed pill into a tablespoon of nonfat yogurt with a sweet drink standing close by. The yogurt washed down with a small sip of drink made the pill wash down without my being able to taste it. I take chewable Vitamins. Nancy
  16. I am about a week ahead of you and am having similar struggles. Yogurt and poached eggs work, tuna is iffy. I tried ground beef and it was a BAD idea even though the Dr. included it in my diet. It feels like I'll be living on this for a while. You are not alone!
  17. Eat a lot of lower fat proteins (turkey, tuna, Greek yogurt, etc) and non-starchy vegetables and drink tons of water.

    New Lapbander

Hello Mandi Thank you for the quick response, I was banded by Dr.Cobourn a week ago today May 26th. I like the oatmeal idea, but I dont think so on the cottage cheese, not a big fan of cottage cheese. I have been having Optifast for breakfast, chicken broth for lunch followed by Jello with liquid yogurt(Yop), and the same for dinner pretty boring. Oh well I made it through 3 weeks of Optifast I will survive one more week of liquids. Maria

    Mushie Things

IMHO, no, mashed potatoes shouldn't be used. Here's my logic: Yogurt and pudding are basically just a liquid that has been "stiffened" and will become liquid just as soon as it hits your internal heat. Applesauce is mostly Water, both from the juice of the fruit and from the cooking process. There are very little actual solids and they are still mostly water. Mashed potatoes, while of a similar consistency, have more solids in them. There is simply not a way to cook potatoes long enough for them to be essentially water. The purpose of such limited solids in your diet is to keep your stomach from contracting as it has to digest them. With the stomach having been stitched over you band, you really want to avoid having your stomach contract and pull on those stitches. Now, all that being said...EVERY doctor and diet is different. My suggestion would be to ask your doctors office before doing it. Don't try it just because others have been permitted to eat them at this point. I know that it is frustrating, but one more week of sacrifice will seem like nothing at all once you have lost your first post-op 20#! Hang in there

    Recipes

Here is a link to some pureed recipes. My favorite was Ricotta Bake. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I ate a lot of Soups, fat free refried Beans, pimento cheese (southern thing if you haven't heard of it), yogurt (with Protein powder added), sugar free pudding snack (with Protein Powder added).
  21. Today I did much better, I weighed myself in the morning and I have only gained one pound. I had greek yogurt for breakfast, half a protein shake for a snack then for lunch I had tuna mashed with lite mayo. For a snack I had another half of my protein shake and for dinner I ate half a baked chicken breast. I do need to up my water intake. I am only at about 30 oz. I already have tomorrow's meals planned out so I think I have myself started back on the right track and hopefully will be able to jump start my weight loss again! Thank you everyone for your words of encouragment! I will keep you all updated as to how I make out in the coming days!
  22. Don't fret, ups and downs are part of this crazy roller coaster. Everyone has given you great advice. I would actually count the crabs you're taking in. Sadly, 2 pieces of bread...even thin bread...sounds too much. I was maxed at 1 serving per day. Look at the cheese and mayo for hidden carbs as well. Plus both milk and yogurt have lactose...a carb! If you do this, I think you'll be surprised at your carb intake and that stalls loss!
  23. *Scrambled eggs with a bit of cottage cheese mixed in to make them super moist *Refried beans with melted cheese and green chili sauce *Hummus *Guacamole *Pureed tuna fish (yes, this was good with a dab of mustard) *Plain Greek yogurt flavored with protein powder and/or Torani syrups *Any kind of soup I could find that didn't contain rice or noodles....pureed with unflavored protein powder added *I also continued with my protein drinks thoughout all stages as they are an easy way to help meet protein and fluid goals.
  24. That's unfortunate you didn't get better information. You should be concentrating on high Protein / low carb. At your stage (if you are at the puree stage) - you could eat things like hummus, creamy soups (no chunks), cottage cheese, ricotta cheese (there's a ricotta bake recipe online), Greek yogurt (watch the sugars), eggs, sugar free pudding, and of course, Protein shakes. If you follow the typical post-op diet of protein first, low carb and get all of your Water in (non caloric drinks) then you won't fail. Good luck!

    calling all December 19th sleevers

I'm still having pain and taking pain meds. I can tolerate the pain, except my blood pressure goes up significantly when I have pain and gives me the worst head ache. I'm going to have to request a refill. I'm sick of Protein shakes, but still sipping a bit each day. I prefer chicken broth with unjury protein added. Been able to get in more Water yesterday and today. Probably still not enough though. Also drinking some crystal light and G2, and having Popsicles and hello occasionally. Oh, and ate some yogurt yesterday, but I don't like yogurt much so it's hard to eat. Can't wait to eat some stage 2 foods. Thinking of making a chicken or tuna salad in my vita mix so I can eat that. Next week. My doctor said I could try a scrambled egg on day 10 and then some fish if the egg is tolerated. Looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
