  1. Hi. I am having my gastric bypass on the same day 12/22/21 in Stuart Florida. Do you realize our date is a palindrome kinda. Anyway. I wish you well. I’m struggling to get my insurance company to approve my cardiac clearance testing because they say they don’t know why I’m having it even though my primary sent the referral explaining why and the cardiologist and sent in his notes. It is there requirement that I get the clearance for surgery but won’t approve it. I’m afraid I’m going to have to pay out of pocket in order to have it done in time for surgery. I’ve called multiple times spoke to multiple people but the same outcome. Any advice
  2. Happy for you all. I had my gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repaired on the 28 of October is has been a daunting experience, still battling some old habits. Here to help in anything you all need ask ask ask. Happy Thanksgiving 🍗

    Vitamins

I don’t take any vitamins any more. Haven’t since about month 8 (hit goal at 6 months) with my surgeon’s approval. While I was losing I took a multi vitamin. Also took a vitamin D to begin but was told to drop it because I had more than enough in my body. I stopped taking multivitamins because I’m not lacking in any nutrients - my three monthly blood work always comes back really good - except protein ☹️. (My poor ability to absorb protein is a result of my gall surgery but I don’t have to take the Creon I was prescribed anymore because they didn’t help - just have to continue to be vigilant with my protein intake.) What do your blood tests show? Are you lacking in any specific vitamin or mineral? Once you stabilise your weight, it’s not as necessary for sleevers to continue to take vitamins unless you are specific lacking in something unlike bypass patients who need to continue to take them due to malabsorption challenges.

    Canadian, eh?

Hi how did your surgery experience go? I am waiting for an appointment with Dr. Hagen. I have a Lapband and hope to revise to a sleeve.
  5. If you eat a well balanced diet and take the prescribed vitamins and minerals you should have no deficiency as you age. My plan calls for 1500 mg calcium citrate which protects from bone loss. It is important to take calcium citrate, not other forms of calcium. I had my RNY 30 years ago, and while it was not entirely successful (so I'm leading up to revision at age 73), the surgery had no long term negative effects on me. Indeed, I credit it for avoiding Type II Diabetes, which many of my overweight friends now have.
  6. Hey everyone! I am 27F trying to get the Bypass mostly for my GERD but also to lose weight. It's gotten to the point where I have pain every night and some days sleep 4 hours max. The only thing keeping me away from the surgery is the fear of developing some very bad complications (like osteoporosis). If one follows the diet and vitamin intake to a tee, how likely that I will get to old age without getting them? I would really like to live my 30s and 40s relatively healthy and not be "damaged" by the operation.

    7 month PO

Does anyone have sensitivity and a weird pain near the incision area, under the skin right by the navel? I went to the emergency room and they did a cat scan and said everything looks well, and that it could be scar tissue. [emoji848] All I know is I don't like that feeling. Might I add it just started a week ago and I'm now 7 month Post Op gastric bypass. Sent from my LM-Q730 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Long period

Keep a close eye on it.....I thought I started my cycle in late Dec, 2020 (about a week before my revision, sleeve to bypass) and since I have PCOS and the flow was light, I didn't think anything of it until August when it still didn't stop. I had a endometrial biopsy----came back as cancer. I had a total hysterectomy in early October. Cancer had spread beyond the uterus to an ovary and peritoneum- Stage 3B, just had round 2 of 6 Chemo cycles and after that I have 5 weeks of radiation.......so if your cycle is not normal for you.....check it out!
  9. I finally got to see a Dietician yesterday I'm 45lbs down from Aug 23rd gastric bypass feeling great and cant wait to lose more he said it seems I doing everything ok

  11. I had my surgery yesterday November 23rd and it went well. I also had hernia repair at the same time. So far I am not in much pain just a little discomfort. The nurses were surprised at how well I was doing. I drank two bottles of water. Took me several hours but I got and keep it down. No Nausea and i have I walked every our sometimes twice an hour to help with the gas. For now the gas discomfort is completely tolerable. The worst pain was my throat from the intubation, but still tolerable. I just made my first Bariatric fusion shake today and so far so good. Just slipping on water in between. I know I will probably have some bad days, but I’m happy the start has been really good.
  12. Sleeve to RNY revision this Friday. The day after Thanksgiving. I am excited, nervous and someone else said they didn't feel prepared. That's me. I have vitamins and all that jazz, but I hate not knowing what to expect. How different is this going to be from sleeve surgery; will the reflux really go away......what do I eat to start off with. I have papers, but I still don't feel like I have a grip on what's getting ready to happen.
  13. Had sleeve surgery June 2010. Like you, I lost down to exactly 132. My husband and daughters were alarmed because I could STOP losing. My goal was 150. I started adding higher caloric foods and gained to 145, I like that 5 lb pad. I maintained at or below goal for eight years. I have arthritis in my hips and after we left the Dallas area, I don't have the big malls to go to. I used to go and walk, no power walking, just window shopping, but I did it quite a bit. We also had a 2-story house and I'd purposely go up and down the stairs more than I needed to. Here I am, severe reflux and a hiatial hernia. I have regained a little over 40 lbs. Revision surgery is this Friday. I hope surgery will fix the medical problems and hopefully I'll drop 25 lbs!! Good luck!!

    Help

Hi everyone I'm new to this so I dont really know what I'm doing ,I would like some advice please ,I had the gastric bypass 8 weeks ago ,I was 23 stone4 pound before surgery and am now 21 10 but for the last 10 days I havnt lost any weight and I am hardly eating is this normal ?
  15. On October 4 I had gastric bypass, the first few weeks on purée and liquid stage was fine. once I reach soft food, it seem as if I could eat more than I should have. I have message my team and nutrition regarding this and they have told me that as long as I’m losing then I shouldn’t worry. there has been a few times that I would blank out and binge eat, in the course of doing that I noticed that I don’t have any restriction or discomfort when eating. This already have happened three or four times. Obviously I’m aware that I am a food attic and one of the reasons of me getting the surgery was to restrict the amount of food that I could eat and while choosing healthier options which I have been doing ,but because of weak moments is that I am unable to control myself I end up purging on food that I shouldn’t have. Just really has been a mental challenge for me and I feel as if my restriction is not there and mentally have to remind myself not to over eat have this happen to anyone? I am posting this because I want advice or any other alternative or things that I could do to improve this I already go to therapy and trying to understand my relationship with food. Sometimes I feel like I made the mistake of having the surgery.

    RNY to RNY revision.

Wishing you both every success. I know it is easy to get down about a revision not working as well as the original but I dug into a bunch of scientific articles and most say the average person loses 10-15% less than the original weight loss surgery. I know when I had my gastric sleeve in 2012, I lost too much weight so I am hoping my revision to RNY just gets me within10 lbs of goal and helps my acid reflux. II'm having my revision 12/2/21 and keep you both in my thoughts.

    RNY to RNY revision.

I also will be having RNY revision very soon, but my original RNY was done 30 years ago. Over 10 years I regained all I had lost. Both my pouch and anastomasis stretched. We won't lose as much following revision, but It will get us closer to "normal" BMI. There has been much progress in the technique and protocol since even 2010 so I'm optimistic.
  18. I had my original RNY in 2010. Lost 120 lbs. In the past 12 years I have had a baby, my parents moved in with me and my weak ankle and flat foot got progressively worse until I was limited to swimming and yoga for exercise. I gained 60 lbs back and my gastric reflex was getting bad. I had an upper GI and found 1. Hiatal hernia (rare for RNY) and my pouch was 3x the size my surgeon would like and my stomach 2x. He said that it is partially due to stretching and partially that my original surgeon made it bigger than he would have in the first place. Revision in 3 weeks. I’m a little nervous because last time I was able to lay around on the couch for 3 weeks post op and “eat” all my “meals” alone. Now I have a very active 7 year old and a family that likes to have family dinners together. Any other RNY to RNY revisions?
  19. Dec. 2nd here! - although mine is a revision. The revision board seems to be kinda dead so thought I'd pipe in here. I hope everyone is uber successful!

    November 2021 surgeries

I had gastric bypass on 11/4.
  21. 3 days out from bypass and am painfully bloated most of the time. Even get pain of my upper left shoulder. What over the counter drugs are permissible to eliminate or reduce it?
  22. Nervous about Mexico but financially ,my only option. Can someone recommend a doctor that actually does a virtual consult? I have called several places with no luck. I do not want surgery without at least a virtual consult first. Someone safe with a zero death record? Please help
  23. Since my bypass surgery Friday I have had an intense sore throat. May be swollen even. Hard and painful to swallow and very dry, very horse but that is subsiding. When does this Improve? Actually my throat is more painful and tough to deal with than the urgency itself and aftermath. Serious thick phlegm too…. Anyth8ng to relieve this pain and irritation?

    New benginnings…

Fellow Mini Gastric Bypasser/Omega Looper here! Congrats on getting yours! My main focus is getting in my protein and water, which I double-up on with protein water twice a day (28g protein each), and protein-fortified soy milk (10g per 250ml). Then my supplement vitamins just before bed so I don't risk accidentally washing them through my system with water. My routine is protein water as soon as I get up, and another in the afternoon. I have regular water and protein-fortified soy unsweetened matcha lattes (maximum of 2) throughout the rest of the day, leaving spaces for solid food. Since you've just come out of hospital, you're still on liquids, so you've likely been told to have protein shakes. If you can tolerate them (I tried my best, but after six weeks, I just couldn't do the shakes anymore so switched to just protein water), then you'll skate through, but if you can't then keep protein water in mind.
