C'mon Wheezy, do it too! Loriely, maybe after your fill, you won't even need it. I just had my chicken breast, and boy, was I ever excited! I figured Frank's Red Hot sauce would be ok, so I added some to spice it up.... and did it ever! Good though. Since eating is quite troublesome for me in the morning, I had about 1/2 cup of yogurt at lunch, and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, then at 4:30, 1/2 cup more of cottage cheese, and 1/4 of yogurt. Now my chicken breast, and I'm hoping to be able to get in some Jello before I have to quit eating for the day! Maybe some milk too. I loooove milk. I weighed myself this morning so I will know how it goes. I've got that party on Friday night, but I will try to get right back on track the next morning(afternoon!)... and hopefully not ruin things too much. Do you think that ANY kind of boring Protein would be ok? Like, say... instead of chicken on night at the gym, how about a piece of salmon? (good luck to you too, Rosi!)

My recommendation is to buy very little food because I bought a lot of stuff like sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, sugar free popsicles that I didn't like or couldn't tolerate post-op. If you have others in the house who will eat the stuff, I'd get it. Otherwise, try to buy just one of each thing that you can get from the store and then you can send someone to buy more if it turns out you like it and it sits well. My sleeve was very touchy at first and the one thing it tolerated well was the unjury chicken Protein powder. I recommend buying one canister so you have it ready. Or at least getting the sample size packets to see if you like it. I'm not nuts about the flavor, but when everything else bothered me, I was grateful to find it. I also liked Sleepy Time Tea and greek yogurt. But I think everyone's tastes/sensitivity is different. For non-food items, I bought or had ready: Food scale liquid measuring cup: I used this like a pitcher to get my fluids in without having to hop up and down. I filled it then poured 1 ounce into a medicine cup and worked on drinking one ounce every 15 minutes while I was awake. Small spoon and bowl: Those little food prep bowls are a great size. And I used a demitasse spoon to eat with. 2 nightgowns: Normally I sleep in PJs, but I couldn't tolerate anything around my waist for the first few weeks after surgery. Nice hand lotion and lip balm: Cheered me up. Lots of pillows: I used these to prop myself up in bed the first few days, a few under my back and a couple under my knees. Flushable wipes: I got diarrhea a couple of days out that slowly tapered off after a couple of weeks. Lynda -

My recommendation is to buy an item, try it and if your sleeve likes it then your good. After surgery I went and bought a lot of items that I had to return. I can no longer tolerate many things such as Protein drinks, yogurt or natural applesauce which I consider to be all to sweet. Everything has completely changed taste wise since preop. My focus everyday is fluids and then protein. So, to answer your question preop was Protein Drinks, sugar free popsicles, and broth and fresh vegs. Post op, sugar free choc milk, light cheese, bean Soup, refried Beans, eggbeaters and baby food vegs. -

I like Sargento light string cheese. They have 6g of protein and only 50 calories! i get the 24 count at Sam's for $5. In the regular grocery store, they can be pricey at $4 for 12 most of the time. I like activia yogurt but not the greek kind. It is too thick and gets stuck in my throat. I will add unflavored protein powder to the activia to boost the protein. I also bought a big bag of frozen fruit at Sam's and use it for snacking and smoothies. The frozen mango is soo creamy and tastes like eating a ball of sorbet right out of the bag. I also buy a big bag of Tyson's grilled and ready chicken since it comes in strips and microwaveable. I count out 5-6 strips and frozen veggies to take to work with me in the morning and put some salsa, spaghetti sauce or kikkoman sauces in a plastic baggie to pour over it. This makes a fast lunch! -
I want to know honest calorie intake
SerendipityHappens replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four weeks out and I am averaging 700-900 calories per day. Yesterday I had 849 calories, 64 carbs, 33 fat and 75 Protein. I'm not even trying hard to be low calorie right now.. If I wanted to work at it.. I could get 70-80 grams of protein with just 600 calories but I want to see what my body can do in the 700-900 calorie range. If you want to consume fewer calories you definitely can do that and still hit your protein goals.. Here's an example of my breakfast 1/2 cup cottage cheese 80 calories 13 grams of protein -vs- your honey yogurt 190 calories 12 grams of protein. Or take my dinner 1/4 cup chicken and 1/4 cup green beans- 67 calories and 12 grams of protein. -vs- two spring rolls with 173 calories and 8 grams of protein. -
What was your first soft food?
*Lexie* replied to JCP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 5 days post op but some things are on my full liquids that are probably more like soft foods. This morning i had oatmeal for the first time. I used 1 T of oatmeal and made it watery. I feel like I ate a whole pie, very full. I think I'm going to try a yogurt for lunch. Was never a fan of it but I'm hoping my taste has changed. -

I had my dr. switch me to the tablets to crush. The pharmacist said this was fine for the short term. I plan to crush and mix into a small bite of yogurt or protein shake. -
I tried cereal last night with milk and it was very uncomfortable. I'm thinking maybe because of the liquid with solid food. I'll have to try it with Greek yogurt. Thanks!

I'm still having pain and taking pain meds. I can tolerate the pain, except my blood pressure goes up significantly when I have pain and gives me the worst head ache. I'm going to have to request a refill. I'm sick of Protein shakes, but still sipping a bit each day. I prefer chicken broth with unjury protein added. Been able to get in more Water yesterday and today. Probably still not enough though. Also drinking some crystal light and G2, and having Popsicles and hello occasionally. Oh, and ate some yogurt yesterday, but I don't like yogurt much so it's hard to eat. Can't wait to eat some stage 2 foods. Thinking of making a chicken or tuna salad in my vita mix so I can eat that. Next week. My doctor said I could try a scrambled egg on day 10 and then some fish if the egg is tolerated. Looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My daily menu is nothing exciting. I usually have a protein shake and a half, and then something of the soup variety for dinner. I've been digging light creamy soups, because they have a lot of flavor. I don't think I've been doing 64 g and 64 ounces, but I've been doing about 50. That's what my doctor suggested. I have my 10 day postop tomorrow, and I'm probably going to be cleared for soft foods. I can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App When you have soup how much do you usually have? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App I can drink 8oz of broth now. Been primarily living on Premier Protein shakes, broth with protein added, G2 drink, crystal light. I've had yogurt once, still not something I actually like, and I've had cottage cheese and refried Beans with plain greek yogurt mixed in. On christmas I did have two spoons of mashed potatoes drenched in turkey juice and a shred of turkey that I chewed to death. I also have chewed some string cheese into mush too. I know these things aren't on my current list, but I'm careful to not swallow anything until it's mush. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg with cheese on day 10! whoohoo.. and if that goes well I could also try some fish. She seems to be less strict on the stages than I see in other programs. My doctor seems to be a little less strict too, and I'm pretty excited about it. Supposed to get the OK tomorrow to move onto soft foods. I'm glad you didn't have any problems with those foods, makes me excited for tomorrow! Enjoy your scrambled egg! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So nervous I feel nauseous! LOL

Just had my first few teaspoons of custard. Went down smoothly and tasted good. Full after 4 tablespoons! My surgeon says eat anything liquid that you can get though a straw that is really runny, e.g. Custard, broth, runny yogurts, the higher in protein like Dairy is the better. -
Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I am 5 days post-op. I had to do a 7 day full liquid diet which was hell for me. Full liquid consist of the following: *broth Soups *Cream Based Soups *Protein Powder/Shakes (muscle milk, carnation, slimfast, etc) My surgeon and dietitian required the shakes to be at least 20 grams of protien and 180 calories or less. *sugar-free Yogurt/Pudding * 100% fruit juice *Water *Crystal light juice Good luck!

I made a can of tomato soup with milk and threw in some basil. It was the BEST tomato soup ever!!! lol Other than that I am sticking to yogurt and protein drinks. Looking for other suggestions too

How Many People Eat How Their Nutritionists Want?
Newfoundlove replied to pandabear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with gmanbat - I've never heard of a NUT that is against Protein shakes! That being said, pre-op, she didn't want me doing Protein shakes, instead I was on a very low-carb diet (no more than 40 grams a day). So, I didn't eat yogurt or fruit because of the carb content. My NUT didn't care about calories, only carbs. But, I did eat lots of salads, meats, and cheeses. Stayed away from rice, potatoes, etc. My pre-op diet was for two weeks, but I did three and I lost 14 pounds during that three weeks. Now, post-op, I do eat fruit. In fact, once I was cleared for it, I added apples, etc., because I was having constipation which was no fun. I also added in some oatmeal occasionally for breakfast as that helped the stopped up problem as well. -
Fat my entire life, will it work?
ParrotheadCathy replied to nlawlor341's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NLawlor, you're in bandster hell. It's a rotten time. You have pretty much no restriction from just the band, you're healed, you're feeling pretty normal .... and you can eat a lot of food. And you're scared. Let me assure you, as others have, that it gets better. Your first fill isn't going to put you in the green zone, but it's going to start you in that direction. How much fill it takes varies from person to person. As an example, 5.8ccs is perfect for me; 6.8ccs is "close" for my best friend. What worked best for me until I hit the green zone was to not count calories but to make sure I got at least 60 grams of Protein per day and eat three meals a day. Breakfast, I often had a Protein shake but now have a soft boiled egg and a littel greek yogurt. My other meals were (and usually still are) 3 oz of lean protein. a vegetable serving, and a serving of whole grain carb (about 15 grams or so of carbs). I was told that the goal was to be able to go at least 4 hours between meals before I got hungry and that until I reached that point I should have a protein snack to hold me over. Something like a boiled egg, an ounce of low fat cheese or some low fat cottage cheese. That got me to where I am now. I still have that snack before I leave work at 5:30 because that's already 5 hours since my lunch and another hour and a half before I even get home to be able to cook dinner. It's a comfortable habit now. I can eyeball protein servings, don't worry too much about getting the vegetable serving to an exact size, and I know what carbs I can have and how much. And with 80 pounds down, I am now losing about a pound a week. Bear in mind that how much you have to lose has a lot of control over when the weight loss slows down. AND, I'll tell you I had a spell a while back where if it were not for my band, I would have gone back to my old habits and gained it all back. But that little bit of plastic and silicone stopped me short. You eat too much, your stomach hurts. Don't want to do that again, LOL. So if you work your band, it will work for you faithfully. -
Today is day 1 for my full liquid stage in my post op diet. I only remember that my Doctor said cream of wheat and yogurt and I think he said cream Soup. What else can I have on full liquid stage. I tried yogurt today and I just took Greek yogurt and mix it with Protein powder ( Cookies and cream) it was like ice cream but I wasn't able to eat more then 3 tea spoon. later on I remember my favorite lassi and add the Water to it and blend and I was able to finish this drink. what other choices I can have on full liquid stage of post op diet. THANK YOU.

Everyone's losing weight faster than me

I stick to high Protein for the most part: eggs, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, and some veggies. On a not so good say I might add some rice or Pasta. I also have a drink from time to time. How bad do u think that affects weight loss? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App I'd say that the "drink from time to time" is as wide ranging in impact to your weight loss as rice and pasta. Rice and pasta have zero value to you now and will certainly keep you from achieving ketosis (if that's a state you hope to get in). drinks, on the other hand, may not keep you out of ketosis for long. Depends on the type of liquor and the macro content of the mixer. I've got out for an evening and had vodka or tequila with a low calorie mixer in a 2-4 drinks......and used ketone strips the very next morning and found that I was still in ketosis and chugging along. You have to find what works for you and you have to establish priorities. For me.....my overall priority is to lose the weight that has been a burden to me. I am doing this to be healthy and enjoy my life. I can go out and have fun without losing sight of those priorities. I've learned that if I have the skinny margaritas or vodka and diet mixer.....then that is done in absence of any type of eating. Since the alcohol is empty calories....then I have to ensure I've chosen carefully earlier in the day and met my protein goals and also made some room in my calorie budget by burning some off in the gym. No longer do I go out....pound down beer and then order something horrible to eat later. My actions have to align with my priorities and have some fun times within reason. You have to find what works for you and figure out what you value. For me....it's to let pasta and rice go. I haven't missed them at all. I found spaghetti squash makes a great substitute. Great advice! Thanks Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -

I eat 3-4oz of lean protien, 1/2 cup of veggies and 1 serving of starch if I still have room which typically I don't. If I do it's typically like a 1/2 slice of toasted wheat bread or 1/4 c brown rice etc. If I'm hungry in between meals which some times I am I eat a healthy snack like a greek yogurt or 1-2 oz of cheese or something around 100 calories. Hope this helps! You're doing a great job! Congrats on your success!

I find that sometimes it's easier to eat veggies as a snack instead of a meal. I like to make a dip out of plain 0% Greek yogurt--add dill dip mix (low-sugar type) or a Penzey's spice mix. then cut up red pepper, cucumber, zucchini strips etc. to dip it in. about 100 calories and really filling. You can do this with PB2, Greek yogurt and apple slices too. When I'm eating a meal, if I have any carbs (which is rare--like a spoon of baked sweet potato), I put that on the bottom of the wide-mouthed mug that I eat out of, then veggies (like zucchini, spinach, sauteed peppers, etc.), then Protein. Then I eat in layers, so protein first, then veggies, then carb last--and a lot of times I won't have room for the carb. I like red pepper strips and a laughing cow babybel lite cheese as a snack too, or cucumbers with the soft low-fat laughing cow cheese on it. I like those mini cucumbers that look like pickling cucumbers. They are nice and tender and digestible. I can also eat about a cup of romaine lettuce with a few cut up veggies on it (carrots, peppers, cucumbers), and some protein on top. I've seen a few people post what they've eaten for the day and sometimes there are zero veggies and then there are things like processed carbs. I say everyone should do what works best for him or her, but I can't imagine a food plan, for me, that doesn't include veggies.
