I don't know how much weight you have to lose, but if its a lot I doubt a lotion or cream is going to help it retract as you lose weight. It may help with the look of some of the stretch marks. It can take up to a couple of years for skin to retract as much as it is likely to, and that depends on many things - age, weight lost, history of yoyo dieting/big weight losses/gains, genetics, environment. Look to the most expensive cream/lotion you were going to buy and starting putting that money away into a savings account (maybe once or twice a month), at the end of a year or more you will have some funds for new clothes or the beginning of a savings account for skin removal (if it is needed).

I’m new to this thread. July 2011 had the sleeve, August 2011 had peg tube inserted, same month had a PE, December 2011had RNY, February 2012 had bowel rupture with complications. January 2018 had an iron infusion. I started at 5’7” 260 pounds. I was down to way under weight at 130 by June 2012. A year later I tried to start gaining weight. Needless to say I was super depressed after all my complications. I had gotten up to 190, overeating on carbs, not getting my Protein. I didn’t try to completely loose weight with a good bariatric diet, but got down to 168 just not overeating any more. Then a few months ago I was ready to get back on track. I started logging my food intake, and started back at all the beginning bariatric diet. I was super strict on carbs and protein and around 600 calories a day with skipping breakfast. I went to see my surgeon again after a six year break. That was 2 weeks ago. I weighed in at 146.6, he said a perfect weight for me. I’m still trying for 140, but have changed my diet again to protein only, and psyllium fiber, surgeon orders. I asked about all the other nutrition. He said because of all my surgeries my body is unlike any others. So a normal bariatric diet is not ok. He put me back on the correct multivitamins, and other supplements. So I’ve been following his guidelines. I am now lactose intolerant, any sugars or fats make me sick. So now I am eating only protein, drinking a gallon of water a day. Still only able to eat about 800 to 1000 calories a day. In the last 2 weeks I’ve gained 3 pounds, don’t know how. I am glad to see this thread. Long time vets to get tips and tricks from.

Is anyone using any firming cream or lotion for loose skin? If so, what is the best? They’re are so many options and some are quite expensive. Of course, money isn’t much of a concern if it’ll actually help. Thanks in advance ☺️

Hi there, I'm feeling like my band is really loose, and although I have had success with it, I feel like I'm gaining weight again because there's no restriction. I had my surgery at the slim band clinic and they are out of business. I believe I need a fill, but I can' find anyone to do it. Does anyone know of a clinic that will do a fill for me in the London, or Kitchener Waterloo area? I'd even consider Guelph if that's my choice. Thanks!

Two weeks Post Op - Losing My Mind
RickM replied to Sinema's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is likely a result of hormonal dumping, where the estrogens (yes, we guys have some of that in there, too, just as the ladies have some testosterone in their systems,) and other hormones that have been stored in the fat gets dumped into our system as the fat burns off. So, just as the ladies are subject to such variations during their time of the month, we all can be subject to it randomly, at any time. One of the guys in our support group told of being in the supermarket checkout and let loose on the person in front for some delay (the usual - waiting for everything to be scanned in and then pulling out the checkbook and pile of coupons, or some other minor indiscretion) then told himself, "wait a minute, I've never been bitchy before.... -

central venous catheter before vsg

My skin is really sensitive to anything but paper tape. It blisters up and peels off with the tape if it's on for more than an hour or two. They probably used the least "sticky" type of dressing that they had and sent me home with others to put over the site when I showered but when I moved my arm, it popped open and water got in. (Probably operator error). I was just surprised that they had so much trouble starting an IV. I've donated 7 gallons of blood and never had issues. We found out later than my veins and arteries are tiny. -

central venous catheter before vsg
S@ssen@ch replied to Selena_Sarajevo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have one, but as a nurse I can understand why a doctor would want one. If you have bad veins or difficult to access veins, there's some reassurance in having a central line. No worries about infiltrated IV's or blown veins. My day of surgery, my veins all seemed to go into hiding and they wound up putting mine in the antecubital area (the place in the crook of the elbow where they draw blood. What a pain in the a$$ it was having it there. Every time I bent my arm, my IV machine would alarm. If I got too relaxed during sleep, it would go off and wake me. Miserable. I suppose if I had it to do over again, I'd consider insisting on a different site. If they couldn't, I would have been willing to do a central line. And I'm not 100% convinced you'd have to wash with special soap. I didn't have to wash with a special soap before my VSG. The only surgery I've ever had to do a skin prep was my hip replacement. Besides, a central line is usually in a vein near your shoulder/neck area and has an occlusive dressing over it, so it wouldn't be an issue when showering. Just my 2 cents. -
I echo all the comments above. I was very angry too for awhile after surgery. I just kept reading on this site and seeing how all my feelings were normal and that it really does get better. The real page turner for me was the weight coming off. So exciting to have loose fitting clothes, then new clothes in smaller sizes. And compliments from others. Hang in there, and trust us who've been around awhile that it does get better. You've got this!

The surgeon said he can't remove the skin from my "side boob" because a lot of important vessels run through there that serve the abdominal area so once the TT is healed, he is going to numb the skin in office and cut it off in office. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. lol. -
My Plastic Surgery Thread

It will be really exciting to follow your next phase to plastics! Thank you for sharing this with us. Surgeon #1 work is amazing! He has created a truly gorgeous figure for this woman with little trace he was even there. And, with time, as she continues to heal - the thin scar lines will likely continue to dissipate into her skin. What an art and a science! It's hard to believe the other 4 surgeons could beat this masterpiece? While I cannot speak to the medical plastics profession (I did read the article posted earlier and agree with both perspectives) in my particular practice as a creative professional - I always charge a consultation fee. In our highly saturated marketplace here with an abundance of the often unqualified and low caliber - A clients ease in paying this fee establishes a trust, a value and sets a positive precedence of high quality. Invaluable information and customized, thoughtful advice about their personal project is addressed at this first meet to include my travel time, gas and milage to the site from studio. A consult fee does separate the men from the boys (tire kickers, so to speak) in seeking a mutually rewarding, respectful and successful future collaboration. I am able to give my best when I feel appreciated and well compensated for the wisdom, experience and design acumen engaged. Personally, I would visit 3 - 5 surgeons regardless of a fee or not. The $750 you might invest is a very small percentage given the overall tab to the seriousness, very personalized and long term commitment to your health, happiness and well being. I feel you are worth exploring all viable options, and the peace of mind that will evolve as you compare, ponder and ultimately - make the best decision without regret or wonder. A fee or no fee would not influence my pursuit of a private consultation; the opportunity to learn more; to meet their staff and understand their aftercare; And, to experience the overall personality of their practices. The quality of the hospitals and/or surgery centers they utilize would also be a mitigating factor. No doubt, you are about to embark on a remarkable (and, a little scary, too) endeavor that knowledge and familiar repetition will serve to empower! Continued best wishes in researching and selecting the very best surgeon for you and your needs. So happy and excited for you. ;] -

Yeah I'm just 6ft0 and my end goal is very similar to what you are 190 I think would be great. I'm curious during your weight loss when did you incorporate weights or like muscle training? I know it's important to tone up while losing weight to gain muscle but also to help with skin???

And I think you handled it well 🐭🐺, he maybe like I tended to be, that no one cares what happens to Him, Might as well drink, probably feels it is the Only thing he can rely on, a "Hi Joe, just thought I would check how You're doing" feeling like You Do Still matter is a great Mood Load-leveler, I would guess he's in the clutch of Depression Too. And that is one Nasty clinging thing to get loose of- been there, done that and like any addiction, very hard to ditch. Underneath my thin new exterior is lurking a Depressive Foodaholic , never totally gone but under control 📅 Day by Day. And it remains worth the struggle to be redesigned, renovated and remodeled but never a easy peasy thing. And that's how MsFrustr8 sees it all. -
My boobs have shrunk to a mere fraction of their former glory, so they there really isn't anything to sag, let alone perk up (but I will say that since the weight loss, I can now feel relatively comfortable going braless since my "underboob" has disappeared). Note I also had a breast reduction pre-wls, and post-child. As for the tum, I'm only showing the good part. The weight came off my middle section first and kept coming off there, so I'm lucky in that regard. What you don't see (and is covered by the top) is the very wrinkly skin above my belly button. I will give some credit to the yoga and core work I do for the stomach though. Oh, and some credit of the firmness has to go to all the sugar/carbs I've been eating on vacay...I'm totally bloated.

How important is the no drinking before?

Yeah it can push the food along so fast you can't absorb calories, especially if you are part of the general Bypass family, your digestion starts much farther down in the proximal/or/distal end of your jejunem and you are naturally now at a caloric deficiency and this only compounds the malnutrition, sad to say. As the Old Carnival Barker said " YOU pay Your 💰 money, YOU take your choice" well when we "BOOKED in" our surgeons probably told us, to guarantee good weight loss, a modicum of perfect digestion is given up. In my case I went in more than twice the BMI an 70+ woman. should carry, I needed to LOSE weight before I lost my LIFE and /or I developed all the hereditary diseases I was potential heiress to. The fact that I HADN'T was more Good Luck than Good Planning and my PCP was starting to have a conniption fit that his fancy- shamancy diets weren't working. Want the dictionary definition of conniption? A fit of hysterical excitement or anger, and YES that is exactly how Dr Carroll saw it in October 2017 when I became the ONLY PERSON in his knowledge to ever GAIN 30 pounds with one month of Phenteramine therapy. Oldest person I ever Saw have a tantrum, and like I said, I've been around "since Hector was a pup" and He now has gray on his muzzle. But many of the Things have resolved, I am now. 188 down from 365+, surgeon/ bariatric staff. was SATISFIED with anything below 200, I want to attempt to stay on track to 175, that's MY GOAL! And Doctor Tantrum- Thrower, now he's.PO.end thinks I've lost TOO Much Too Quickly, should have watched What He Said-- for I am nothing but a Compliant Soul , I follow Medical Advice when all's said and done! And although without clothes on, I have blobby stretched out skin where the blubber used to be, barbed I am a Firecracker if not a full- fledged stick of Dy-noh-mite! Honey for a 73 year broad I am looking pretty fine, never was petite, won't start NOW but I look as good as the average over-70 RockStar, and facing the facts there are a lot of 60s and 70s music icons there these days. Always was prettier than Mick Jagger, even at my Worst!😛👍🎶🎸👵 -
August 19th Happy Monday! It's 4:25 am - August challenge goal 5 pounds (maintaining my bounce weight) Starting weight 140 BMI 23 Today’s weight 136 BMI 22.6 I think I’m past the detoxing crankiness. Sunday was rest day. Heading to the gym at 5:30 am – I have a half marathon with my team on the 27th. I’ve increased my distance and today is a lifting day. Treating myself. Is it ridiculous that I hatted going to a coffee shop on my own when I was at my high weight? At noon I’m sneaking off to my favorite place for a café latte with almond milk. Its great to feel comfortable in my own skin and relax.

Regarding saggy skin: I have it everywhere. I have the neck wattle and jowls, which make me look older than I did before. I've also got loose skin on my upper arms, thighs and butt--and of course around the waist. I look pretty good in clothes, but I'm still a bit shocked when I see my body in the mirror. Maybe I'll post some close-up pictures one of these days. Regarding caloric intake: I'm not counting as scrupulously as I used to, because I haven't had any issues with re-gaining weight (so far). I was doing 500-600 in the first few months, and I'm guessing that I'm up to about 800-1,000 now. I'm seeing my surgeon again in two weeks and will be eager to hear what she has to say.
