  1. All foods are on the soft food list. This was the only time I ate that high. I usually range 600-800 max. I follow the 3 hour rule and the 2-4oz guideline. Fed talking to NUT. Thanks ladies!
  2. Chiming in here as a cook (we have different surgeries).....try using stock to cook meat down. Use a very high heat, sear the meat well (whether chicken, beef, etc. -- including ground meats like turkey or grass-fed beef, etc.) -- add stock (can get it in cartons at the grocery store -- I always go for the organic) and simmer it down for a long time. By now I've added garlic, spices, etc. Delicious for all, weight loss surgery peeps or just regular old gourmet eaters....enjoy! And get ready to join the league of dainty eaters. Such a beautiful thing. Way to go getting yourself prepped for everything -- you have a whole new future ahead of you and it's going to be great!
  3. I started this journey over a year ago, and I still haven't went through with it. I've started and stopped 3 times and I'm completely petrified. I don't want to go through life hating myself like I do now. I want a husband and beautiful children and to be a hot mom. Heck, I want to be a hot woman. I'm 19 and around 340 and I've actually lost like 50 pounds this year just bc I'm busy and way more active and never eat.. (College life) my dad and grandmother both went through the top surgery where they take out intestines and everything (I forget the name) but they have problems with diarrhea and my dad has awful awful gas.. Plus I don't want to tie myself down to taking so many vitamins and getting sick if I don't eat protein. I'm way overweight right now, but I'm relatively healthy. The worst thing I deal with is PCOS which is another reason losing weight is a big deal for me. My insurance has already approved, I'm just so scared and don't want to ruin my life before it starts when it comes to going out with friends and eating and I definitely don't want bad diarrhea problems or anything like that. Idk guys I'm so lost and I just found this site last night. HELP!!!

    Help

Hi Toni, The important thing is to go back to a healthy post-wls diet. For me, that is high protein and low carb. I stick to 3 ounces of lean meat and a couple ounces of green veggies for each meal. For snacks, I have things like a piece of fruit, a small handful of nuts, or a protein shake. I am sure you were fed all sorts of unhealthy crap in jail -- carb-heavy stuff like bread, noodles, and potatoes. Cut out all that and focus on lean meat and green veggies and carefully watching your portions. If you do that, you should lose weight -- but the first several days will be HARD! Your body is used to getting a bunch of carbs and it will protest with "head hunger" -- cravings for carb-heavy foods. If your body is telling you, "I am starving" -- ask yourself if you would be happy to eat a piece of lean chicken breast and some broccoli. If the answer is no, then you aren't really hungry, you are just having a craving. If the answer is yes, go ahead and have the chicken breast and broccoli. How much you "should" be down is irrelevant -- there is no such thing as "should" be down by a certain time for anyone, whether they have been incarcerated or not. That's past -- don't focus on it. You haven't destroyed your surgery. You do need to honor it by focusing on lean meats and green veggies and curbing any tendencies to over-snack, graze, or drink liquid calories (other than protein shakes). You can do this. Good luck!
  5. Hi All, I had an RNY 3 years ago. I lost all of my weight (120 Lbs) then due to complications, was forced to have my RNY reversed a year ago with the intent to sleeve me as soon as it was safe to do so. Since the reversal at the end og August last year, I have gained back 50 Lbs. I have been fighting it with every ounce and have a personal trainer and an incredibly active workout schedule, and all it has done is slow the gain. I got t he call on Friday that I am booked for the sleeve on Aug 26. I know I am a bit unique as I am going from RNY to nothing to VSG. I guess what I am looking for is some support. I am ass backwards from most revisions and I am genuinely terrified that I will not lose the weight. I felt my best about 45 lbs ago and I want to know if there is honest hope that I will make it there again. I miss my RNY and have even considered going against advice and being re-RNY'd the complication that caused them to reverse the procedure has not reversed itself either (they knew that there was at best a 50% chance it would) I feel very much like it was for nothing and I have started to fight some serious depression. I am afraid to go out and be seen by friends because so many of them looked so harsely towards my decision to have the RNY and many people said that the weight lose was the surgery and not me and I am so afraid that they will think "haha, she failed" Yes I kow these aren't true friends but they are members of our social circle and I know it strikes a cord because I feel that way now inside myself. Trust me, I know how much BS that is. I k now how hard i worked with the RNY and the long term changes I have made because of the power it gave me but that evil malicious part inside me taunts me just the same. Sorry, I got lost in my vent there.... anyways, is there ANYONE out there who has revised from RNY to Sleeve? Or is there anyone out there that can help strengthen the belief that 45 lbs is NOT a reach. I hate myself right now and wish I had never lost the weight to begin with because I never would have known what I was missing. Also, I would dearly love some bariatric friends in my fitbit world to help keep me company and on track. my fitbit email is koeheather@gmail.com.... Looking for support Heather

I didn't cheat. What was the point? As mortified as I was that I had to resort to surgery to help me lose weight, imagine how even more mortified it would have been to have found out that I didn't have surgery because my liver wasn't shrunk enough. Some tough love here coach....if you are thinking about how to cheat and you haven't even had surgery yet, you might find it difficult to have the success you must want so badly. Really dude...follow the rules. If you don't, you may be going under the knife for nothing.

  7. I'm a single mom so when I went through the pre op phase, I stocked my kitchen with foods my son could prepare himself- sandwiches, Cereal, lunchables, popcorn, etc. He survived and I wasn't tempted. Post op, my mom came down while I recovered. She fed him and fixed some things for the freezer til I am up and eating.
  8. I did two weeks of liquids after surgery and the past 4 nights pureed. 1. chicken. Corn fed organic chicken which I love!! I pureed it with home made chicken stock and it was lovely. I made 2 ounces but only ate half. I had a medium sized sprout with it but couldn't eat it, I was too full from the chicken. 2. Salmon. 2 ounces made, had about half. It was okay but might leave it out for a while. 3. Scrambled eggs. Yum Yum Yum. Ate 2 oz. Went down very easy. 4 Tuna (fresh not tinned). Had about an ounce. This was lovely and easy to eat. Was really full after an ounce. Other than that I am having 3 Protein drinks a day and lots of Water. It seems very little but that's the amount my body can take/or wants. It sounds very bland but I am really enjoying it and I haven't had an issue with any of the food. I am happy to go slow, it's not forever In a few more days I will drop a Protein Drink and hopefully eat more at meal times.
  9. I'm calling BS I read through and screen shot a few of your post, telling a 17 yr old to have surgery because it's important for finding a mate? Telling Another to gum breads after surgery? Either your full of s**t or give really shi*ty advice!

    Return To Work

My sister is an RN & took off 2 wks bc they limit the lifting, she did great no problems just tired for a few weeks, I had my sleeve & on the 3rd day post op pulled my inner stitches out & I was also out 2 wks, you will be sore I found that those Salon Pas pain patches stink but did help.
  11. Thank you so much, this has been really helpful. LoL, and what a small world that you're a forum host on BC! BTW, I see from your ticker that your surgery is scheduled for today. Good luck!! I know how it can be a little nerve wracking and so I appreciate even more that you took time on your special day to answer my question and ease my own nerves. :-)
  12. Ok from my paramedic sister-- You can do an NG tube just not a BLIND NG tube, it needs to be guided by ultrasound imaging because the stomach isn't as expected. BUT she also says there is no reason she can think of that emergency personnel would have to do an NG tube in the field. It's for feeding, feeding is rarely needed in order to stabilize a patent in an emergency situation. Also, yeah no NSAIDS long term bc it can irritate the stomach/cause ulcers/whatever, but again it's not poison or life threatening if it's given. And again, if they are giving pain relievers in the field it ain't NSAIDS, it's something a tad stronger. Sugar? Again not life threatening, in fact I have sugar by choice on occasion, yes even real refined sugar. May threaten my weight but not my life. Medic alert bracelets are to help EMERGENCY personnel in life threatening situations. In my surgeons opinion, my paramedic sisters opinion and my opinion bariatric patients don't need one. But hey, I don't think it can hurt, but it may take a few minutes of the paramedics attention away from me when I need it most to read that they can't put in a feeding tube or give me Advil. I don't wear one.

Maybe, maybe not. If it's acid you need medication from the doctor, a PPI like Omeprazole are you on one? If it's "head hunger" then you need to do the mental work--are you hungry bc you see food commercials? Because you are sad/mad/lonely/tired/frustrated? What hole does food fill for you?
  14. I was advised the total opposite thats weird. I was put to wait almost a year bc i gain a few pounds, and they said that insurance was going to denied me for not showing compliant. .

    impulse buying? sorta?

Im with you. I am 8 days post op and was looking at home gyms today at dicks and sports authority. I just don't think I would keep up with the gym bc of work, kids, etc. I feel like I would be more compliant with a home gym. I just don't want to make a costly mistake.
  16. I have anthem BCBS (my husband is a state employee). It stinks, but I survived!!!! Two more calls and I'm done. I think the program is put into place bc most people won't follow through with these lame phone calls. However I did ☺️☺️☺️

"You can't get mentally healthy until...

"You can't get mentally healthy until.. It's impossible for me to think in absolutes when it comes to my problems with weight. And before I get started.....my comments below pertain to me. I am not projecting them on anyone else. I am not trying to offend anyone or cause them to get butthurt. This is simply my take on my own experiences. I have no desire to beat around the bush and waste time. I'm here because I want results not excuses. Balls and strikes.....no bs. Okay, for me it never seems to be "all of one thing or another" in terms of problem sources or problem solutions. I will say it seems to be my best times have been when I've made slight improvements in one area and leveraged that success into efforts in other areas. My very best previous weight loss area came at time of poor mental-emotional health. It came during a very, very stressful time period. I felt intense stress on my job and unsurmountable strife in my marriage. I was struggling to meet anyone's needs, it seemed. I evaluated where I was and made the decision to GAIN CONTROL of some aspect of my life. I chose carbs & calories. I nailed this down even though things around were chaotic. Exercise began after those first few pounds of Water weight began dropping. It steamrolled into lots of weight coming off. The exercise had a therapeutic release of stress. The loose clothes led to new clothes which woke me up that things were better overall. Being smaller had the people around me acting pleased and happy. I had no idea how much this difference this would make in other's way of dealing with me. I kept after it and didn't really make any mental change or growth that was on par with the physical changes. Weight came back. It feels that this time, I'm doing small bits of both and that it's different. The structure of the bariatric program I'm in has been very beneficial. I'm not out there by myself to figure it all out. I know from experience that I can nail down the physical health but if I don't also solve the mental riddle then the surgery itself will not offer long lasting benefits. I am not overweight because of any physical issue. I am overweight because I did not control the most basic thing I have control over......what goes in my mouth. Fixing this is paramount. The physical benefits will be lifelong if I solve this mental part. If I don't.....then I've just had surgery.....spent $$$$$ that could have been used for my family.......only to wind up worse off than before.

    Stop it!

I think the real question is why are you being so hateful. Obviously you do not understand her demeanor and she didn't understand your's. She did not mean to offend you I am sure but you Did intend to be rude to her. Every single person who has responded you have had something rude or tacky to say. You need to check your character if you believe that bringing others down will make you feel better. If you need to talk to someone about the hatred you are carrying around with you, I don't mind listening, but seriously enough of the bs you will never find friends to support you on here with attitude like that.

    360 body lift

Lol. I understand. My family has been supportive but at the same time scared bc it's such a long procedure. But my mom really couldn't say much because she had a facelift 2 weeks before my surgery. ????
  20. @@PlBren Hi there - I am on my husband's BCBS Fed and was sleeved May 26th at Bluepoint (inova Fairfax). I live in Alexandria, but was willing to drive as I really liked the surgeon and practice. I also have a friend who submitted today on BCBS Fed - hoping she gets a fast answer! I was lucky and knew in 3 days.
  21. Are any of you BC/BS Federal employee folks in the DC area like me?
  22. I went to ER (2nd time I've been first time I had aspiration pneumoniafrom reflux) bc I woke up choking again and they did cat scan and he said my esophagus was open. So I made apt with my surgeon and he did scope and found hernia

    Getting Started

Yeah I called on yesterday and the nurse that handles it said with my insurance its 3 months supervised visits with the surgeon. Getting my dr to do the referral to him the psych evaluation and meeting with dietitian. I was told to gain a little weight bc my bmi was 38. So when I went to my dr it is over 40 now. N the surgeon wants me to be 40 by the time I go to him. With the bmi of 40 you are automatically qualified. With or without co morbidities. That's for everything from what she said so I guess i would be looking at surgery around December or January. I guess it will be a fast process with getting everything done. My Insurance covers it all I assume. I have two insurance.

    Anyone from Virginia?

My last NUT appt was 4/20. I think my approval was early May. My consult was 5/29 and I got my date early/mid June . You have to pick up all of your RX and have any followup scheduled (I needed sleep medicine) before they submit you to scheduling. Mine took longer bc dr cantor was in the hospital more and in the office to deal with paperwork less. Now that Dr McArthur is back, should be smoother.

    Seriously considering getting sleeved

What made you choose sleeve vs bypass RNY? I've been going back & forth. My surgeon and I have talked long & hard on this!! I've been researching like crazy and have to decide soon bc surgery should be in Oct!! I'm exactly the same size as you also!! 5'4"-5'5" approx 226 pounds!!
