  1. I used to have difficult veins to find for blood draws. Now my doc didn't even have to do the pressy pressy thing, he could see the vein right through the skin. Skinny arms FTW

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

B question: Does your complexion look clearer/better post surgery? Not sure. I think coz there is less fat, all the bumps and wrinkles are more noticable. Also a few months back there I was naughty with carbs and my forehead got really bumpy (like those doodads are called - acne underneath the skin). I think it's more related to carbs than weightloss itself.

    INCISION INFECTION

They sound perfectly normal. Drain sites close from the inside upwards. If the skin healed first then the hole underneath would end up being a pocket called a sinus which would fester and become infected. A couple of steri strips and small dressing over them should be fine. Don't touch or pick them. They don't sound infected. It is normal for wound sites to be hot pink and tender and ooze. An infection would be very red, hot and very painful and the redness would be growing in diameter each day. Nothing to be scared or angry about, all perfectly normal
  4. My best friend had the surgery in Feb. We visited in July and she literally looks half her size! I was shocked when she said she had only lost 45 pounds!!! That is only 9 pounds a MONTH, so just a bit over 2 a week. The scale is NOT the only measure! You are only 2 weeks out of surgery. I can only hope to be half as active as you 2 weeks after mine! Toss your scale out the window! Besides, if you lose it all too fast, look at the other side of that coin... your skin won't even have a hope of keeping up, and then you will have that issue to deal with!
  5. I only went down a half size after losing about 30 pounds but a lot of flats and even a pair of flip flops were too big. I guess loosing that fat pad on the top of my foot or around my ankle was enough that I had to donate a few pairs. I also had to adjust the strap on sandals to a notch tighter.
  6. 1.To wear regular underwear with my dresses. 2. Learn how to wear High Heels and not worry if my legs are gonna give out on me 3. Stop being considered the “fat friend” 4. Shave my legs without loosing breath 5. See my down there 6. Wear regular bathing suits 7.Learn how to ride a bike
  7. I just reached 100lbs weight loss and I went from a 9.5 4E to 9 2E, all my shoes are now loose.

    Skin folds!

Once I was very heavy (260). My skin looked young and firm stretched around my fat. Now I am very thin. My skin flows down my body like heavy drapes. I am healthy. I am happy. I am loved. I look fantastic in clothes! I’m not willing to undergo all of the procedures it would take to correct all of the areas that could use intervention. Life is a series of compromises.🤷🏼‍♀️🙂

    my personal little official thread

FOUR DAYS! Until I get that pesky under-armpit "sideflap" of skin removed! I already have scars along there from my breast reduction so... that's a plus (?) I am so nervous to be awake, though. Barf.
  10. 22 days post-op! Eating soft solids has been fine, but I still struggle with fluids. The feeling of the liquid hitting my stomach pouch and very unpleasant and causes a feeling of uncomfortable fullness and nausea. I'm averaging 48oz/day though, so I'm only a little dehydrated. Trying to get to 64oz is challenging. I do great with the sugar-free popsicles, but I can't eat 16 of those per day. Also, the area around my large incision where they took out the stomach is starting to sting again, sometimes intensely if I twist or bend a certain way. It feels like it's just the skin and muscle, so I'm not worried. It's just annoying because I had like a week with no pain and now it's back!

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

Checking in 1. Posting your personal goal - Stay below 130, and walk 1+ miles a majority of days 2. Add your surgery type, status (pre/post op, losing/maintenance) - 18 months post VSG, in maintenance 3. Weight and BMI (not necessary but encouraged) - 130ish (not near a scale) last weigh in was 128.8, but have spent the last week binge-ing. BMI 23 4. Choose between the easy or advance squat routine - easy 5. Tell us your favorite flaw - I have an incredibly flexible palate. I can happily eat a gas station hot dog for lunch and then dinner at a 5 star restaurant B-sides - I loathe exercise, but love walking. My skin is no better or worse post WLS
  12. Hello! So I’m a female who did/does a lot of weight lifting (did powerlifting for a while but stopped in order to lose weight). Did you feel that it helped with the extra skin after surgery? Do you struggle now getting enough protein to continue lifting and building muscle? How long did it take you to get back to it after surgery? Do you find your weaker now? Thanks so much!

    Skin folds!

I think men have easier chance of skin bouncing back due to our muscle mass. I remember 2012 I lost like 90lbs and had minimal loose skin. Of course I'm older this time but I'll be looking into exercises soon enough to help.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Actually the phone consult Doc was the most unintentionally brutal to date. "Oh, all that excess skin must be so uncomfortable." "Your skin just drapes and hangs there" "I can get rid of those bannan rolls over your hips" "Your butt has no shape left at all" I'm hoping my luck holds. I have had no medical issues in my life, and my VSG recovery was extremely easy. Also, with local traffic, most (all?) qualified surgeons are over an hour away. It took me nearly 3 hrs to get home after my second consult, which was about 30 miles away. I can definitely see how that can happen. None of my consults were pushy. But if I was less certain about what I want and what I don't want, it would be easy to get swayed by the possibilities. Honestly, I could use a complete overhaul. But I know that I want at most 1 major, and one minor surgery. I also don't want extensive scarring. Finally, I can't afford a whole body procedure, even if I wanted one. So even though I don't love my arms, or my knees, I can deal with those problem areas, because I'd rather fix my tummy, thighs, boobs and butt. My first out of state consult addressed this concern without me even asking. He said he had local associates he trained, or he trained under, that would do follow ups and treat any complications.

    💜 SEP 2019 CHALLENGE 💜

Side questions: I don’t totally hate exercise. For example my I LOVE Pilates classes, but HATE going to the gym. I have a nice treadmill at home that I bought over 3 years ago when I was struggling yet again to find an exercise groove and I walk/run/incline train on it 1-2 times weekly. I need to get in a better pattern of being consistent with that TM 2. I’ve always been a big water drinker, but I have noticed an improvement in my skin in spite of the fact that my jowels are more pronounced and is obvious I’m going to need some kind of facelift to avoid looking 5-10 years older than I am. I was the lady that would get acne breakouts in her late 40’s and I’ve only had 1-2 breakouts since surgery so there’s a vast improvement there. Of course it could also be bc I’m truly post-menopausal now so who knows if it’s the water or not. 🤷‍♀️

    Skin folds!

I agree, I don't like the excess skin and have it everywhere but I would rather have it then be 300+ lbs again any day of the week.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Had my first phone consult the other night. This surgeon also specializes in post bariatrics, and uses some different techniques, such as a flankplasty vs a LBL. He publishes about these techniques extensively as well. I loved what he told me he could do to my body. He talked a lot about body contouring, narrowing my waist, creating a shelf booty, etc. Hr then sent me the quote, and it was on the lower end. I was excited.... Then I went back and took a good look at his photos. Everything he talked about did not show in his pics. He actually had a lot of outcomes that I wasn't impressed with at all. I'm feeling a little like Goldilocks right now. I think there are several surgeon out there who can give me a flat stomach and improved thighs. But finding surgeons who excel at body contouring in addition to skin removal, are few and far between. I don't want to make this investment of money, time and pain, and then be unhappy with a boxy figure and flat butt Here's where I'm at on consults Dr. NB - The only surgeon so far I'm confident can give me the figure I want, but pricing was astronomical. Benefit of being local Dr. B - Local, probably the front runner so far. He wasn't enthused about doing any butt contouring/fat augmentation. Need a revised quote, but more reasonable then the other local surgeon Dr. P - Not at all impressed with his result pics, out of the running Dr. N - Phone consult later this week. I'm very impressed by how lean and taunt his results are, but all results have a flat butt Dr. B2 - Local consult next week. Need to look at photos more closely Still need to look at and potentially schedule consults with a few of the other surgeons mentioned on this thread.

@kerrik54304 have you tried keeping your band a little loose?

    Skin folds!

I had a lot of loose skin after my weight loss using the Lap-Band so I had surgery. Well the surgery almost killed me, I threw 3 blood clots and they ended up in my lungs. I have permanent sensation loss. Would I do it again...Never. But everyone has to make their own decisions.

    Skin folds!

I think it depends on your age and how long you have been obese. I am 60 and have been obese for over 30 years, and I have loose skin everywhere--neck, upper arms, stomach (the worst area), butt and thighs. I'm going to start weight training in the near future, as I've been told that can help. If not, I'd much prefer sagging skin than go back to my old body!

How many calories do you eat a day?

How many calories I eat between 370to 800 depends on the day but my exercises are put on half until after I have a scope because I am so dizzy but I'm still loosing. Sent from my RCT6A03W13 using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. With sleeve surgery you loose about 60-70% 0f your EXCESS weight. Meaning if you weigh 200 lbs and you need to loose 80lbs to get to a healthy BMI, you will loose 60-70% of that. That means on average you’ll loose around 50 of your 80 lbs (this is just an example, most people weigh more than 200lbs). You will not become too skinny unless you really are determined to do so. I think we all wish we could get down to super model measurements, but the truth is, it just doesn’t work that way. People who have reached the super skinny weights ha e done so because they worked hard at it and wanted it. It doesn’t just miraculously happen. You have full control. This is an unwarranted fear and perhaps just your head playing tricks on you to try to talk you out of doing the surgery. Don’t let it. You've got this.
  24. Also, my dermatologist doc recommended pure lanolin cream, called Elon. I dot it on each nail twice a day, when they got thin, tearing, super dry, etc. and it firmed them up and smoothed our the ridges within days! I also use a OTC cuticle cream for the super dry skin around each nail, tip of fingers. Good luck!

    Skin folds!

The only way to fix loose skin is plastics. Weightlifting will fill in some of it with muscle.
