Anyone with actual diagnosed slippage, Help!
LargeMediumSmall posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there is anyone out there that has actual diagnosed band slippage I could use some help. About a week and a half ago I had pain in my upper right side almost immediately after eating. BTW, been banded about 16 months now. The pain seemed so symptomatic of gallbladder. Well, not that I've ever really had gallbladder problems but from what I read it sounded like gallbladder. So I waited a few days, tried some natural remedies & then saw my doc (actually his. P.A.). She knows I have a lap band but apparently she knows nothing about the procedure or apparatus. She ordered an ultrasound. I suffered for a few days until my ultrasound. That was on Wed so I didn't expect to hear back until next week and of course I havn't. Meanwhile, the pain sort of came and went and then I started getting reflux, day and night. So I went to my doc to have a bit of an unfill, Thursday. Since the pain was pretty much gone I didn't say much to him about it. I never thought it could be related to my band considering how far over to the right it was. Anyway, even after my unfill I am having reflux, pain which worses when I am laying down. Worsens when I eat or drink, even in small sips (I've pretty much been on liquids for over a week now). When I roll over to my left side I can hear the Fluid slosh and then go down but the pain sort of worsens on my right. It's so odd. It's not like one thing immediately triggers pain and one thing makes it stop. But drinking (and I'm sure eating) really makes the pain worse. Liquids are going down but not well. I have a 10cc band with 5cc in it. I'm going to call on Monday to have them check it out, even before I hear from my family doc about the gall bladder. I looked up the symptoms of slippage and NOW I seem to fit perfectly. I've lost 87 pounds and Im 20 pounds from my goal. I'd be ok if they had to remove it. I've worked hard on overcoming my food issues. But this pain is really getting annoying. It's tolerable, I don't need to go to the ER, but I was just wondering if anyone out there had actual diagnosed slippage and what your symptoms were. Why do these things always happen on the weekends??? -

Anyone starting over?
bandedbob replied to Shandy79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My oh my - this is such a wonderful forum and folks are so open - the only advice I can offer which may be helpful - is that of my nutritionest. Consume liquids 45 mins before or after a meal Make the liquids something like crystal lite, or power aid zero (no calories) Eat ONLY 3 oz of lean Protein (actually 7 grams per oz) If your still hungry after eating the protein - eat up to 1.5 cups of cooked veggies per meal Substitute a Protein shake 2-4 times a week Shakes: http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=WP-1070 That simple advice took me down 35 lbs - don't eat till your full - eat the perscribed plan. I know its not easy, I am a comfort food eater, a grazer, and eat out of boredom. Fortunatly the surgery made me loose my appetite - I wish you the very best ! -
Hi, I had my surgery 2 months ago and until I had my 2nd fill last week, I was doing great. I've been reading some of the posts from others, and it's glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing some of these things. I could feel the restriction right after my surgery. My surgeon told me he had put 3 cc in my band. I got to where I could eat almost anything without any problems, just not as much as before. At my first fill, he added another 1cc. I cut back to soft and liquids for a few days after my fill and then I could eat almost anything again (except bread), just less than before. I had my 2nd fill about a week ago, and have noticed a definite restriction. I again went back to soft foods and liquids for several days but haven't noticed any improvement. I tried to eat some eggs, but they got stuck which was a horrible feeling and persisted for a while. I wasn't able to get it to come up. So, I had to suffer through it. I've been very careful since, but everything seems to cause what I can only describe as a spasm like feeling as soon as it hits the bottom of my esophagus. I've tried increasing my fluids, but it doesn't matter what I eat or drink, I get the same feeling. Which is quite uncomfortable. So, I've been drinking/eating hot liquids, thick Soups plus my Protein shakes. I plan to go my surgeon on Monday and have him remove at least part of that last fill. I'm glad I found this site. I have only told a couple of people about my surgery, as this was a very private decision for me. Any other suggestions I should try until I can see my surgeon?

Mom 22 years my senior is in better shape than I am !
Angel720 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track! -
I'm looking at everyone's before and after pics and how great everyone looks. I'm scared I'm never gonna get there. Is it possible that you won't lose weight after surgery? I'm 12 days post op and in a stall... At least I hope it's a stall.

a lot of people's hormones get screwed up the first few weeks or months after surgery. The reason according to a lot of folks is that estrogen is stored in fat cells, and when you're losing weight rapidly, they get released and flood your system. It'll all balance out again eventually. Probably soon for you since it's already been six months.

Im already struggling

Do the best you can.... I would say for myself that if I could have lost all that pre-op weight, why in the world would I want to go through surgery? So yes, it was very hard to do...but I kept telling myself that this surgery is the most important step I can take and I was not going to do anything to jeopardize it... Now, all Dr.'s are different...My Dr. did not care what I ate or drank, ONLY thing he wanted to see was that I had to loose X # of lbs within 2 weeks of the surgery or he would postpone it...didn't care how I did it, as long as I did....having said that, Protein shakes was the easiest way to do it...but I did cheat, eating regular food, but keeping a close eye on the scale so as not to have my surgery postponed.... But that was Me and my Dr...if you want this surgery you need to do what your Dr. wants you to do... -

Scared and overthinking it?
Sunnybaby replied to babish's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I keep thinking that every pound I lose is going to be my last and that I am going to be the ONE person who fails at this. I have lost 20 pounds in 5 weeks and I have to keep reminding myself that it'll happen. Just gotta take things one day at a time. -
Long Term Weightloss For The Sleeve Vs Bypass
gatacous replied to READY TO LOSE IT's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved 2 yrs ago and one of my best friends was bypassed 2 yrs too we have kept our weight offwe do work out 3times. A week. In my mind I have set a weight that I will nerver never go over an has worked for me I stay at 118 to 121 I haven't had any trouble she has been scoped twice. Well once I am taking her tomorrow to be be careful of junk food it goes down easier than some meats I try an stay away. I drink hot tea or coffee after meals seem to help. Hope this helps -
Have you discussed this with your nutritionist or surgeon? It is critical that you address this right away as the lack of Protein alone can be devastating to your body. At 8 weeks out, based upon my plan, you would be transitioning to 3 oz of food per meal. Obviously you're not anywhere near that. Good luck and keep us posted!

My Doctor does his 5-6 weeks out and approx. every 6 weeks after or as needed
-
You still can; I did. But that was soon after surgery.....like you. I'm now 5 weeks out, and haven't had a problem. But I will say that if you drink a protein shake or milk.....something other than water soon before you go to sleep, that will cause the stomach acid to backup into your throat. My problem has improved a great deal, but if I eat something too close to bedtime, I'll have reflux. And now with the band, I'll have other unpleasant happenings if I have anything in my stomach too close to bedtime.

Has it been 6 months already?!?
fern replied to Rev Me Up!'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Woohoo!! I'm about a week ahead of you. Congrats on being so close to goal and on your engagement!!! -
Yep SLOW down!! My mom made the observation the other day that one problem with laprascopic surgery is that we forget we have had MAJOR SURGERY!! Also any other major surgery they would be encouraging us to eat good healthy foods for our body to heal, instead we have restricted our calories big time. It takes time. I went back to work after 2 weeks (but I only work 1 full day a week) had to take a nap at lunch, and it was 5 weeks before I returned to all my activities. But I also had complications during surgery, and I'm 53. I also felt like I should be more based on those posts you mentioned.

Hey, I'm almost at my 4 week post op but just now I was sleeping and all of a sudden I started coughing like I was choking, I then started dry heaving so I go to the bathroom to see if I needed to throw up and this NASTY tasting yellow mucous came up... After spitting it out, my chest started to burn like crazy and would get worse when I coughed. It felt like I had something in my lungs that I was trying to get out. Any idea as to what this is or has anyone else experienced that? Like I said, I was simply just sleeping... It's 3AM now and it's not like I just ate and went to lie down. Ugh. All of this bad stuff is making me regret the surgery

decent weight loss?
Jess55 replied to Dreamalways07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't see it right away either. I had my surgery in December and I did a week pre op lost 9.8#, a week post op lost 9.2, so a total of 19#. A few days after I came back someone said to me I look like I lost weight. It felt weird. That person had no idea I had surgery (I mean any surgery). I didn't see it. Weird thing is when I started at my current job 1.5 years prior to that I weighed about, 285 or so, when I started my pre op diet I weighed 247 and no one had said anything previous about any weight loss. Maybe it's where you lose it idk. But 30# is a great accomplishment, be proud! -
Penni remember a few weeks back you posted when you could we would meet, just let me know when your available!!! The pictures look like you were having so much fun!!
