Hi guys. Tomorrow will be three weeks post op and I’m sad to say, I’ve only lost 10 lbs. I don’t understand it. I hardly eat anything. I’m averaging 500-600 calories a day and getting all of my protein in. What am I doing wrong? I feel I should be loosing more. Ive been stuck at 220 for almost a week and I’m at my wits end. I’m not even eating solid foods. I’m worried that I won’t get to my goal weight by the time my stomach starts to stretch out. Any advice?

Pre-op essentials purchases
Panda333 replied to Ruxa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore sugar free popsicles benefiber biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me. carmex lip balm 5 oz anchor measuring cup water bottle with measurements on it. Torini sugar free syrups...for decaf coffee ice cube tray - for freezing broth popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the protein shakes Make sure you have extra protein like genepro to blend in to help you meet your protein goals Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes Loose panties subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and proteins and everything I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers Things I bought that I didn't use. I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups 100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my fluid intake this way...ummm..no.. almond creamer, just don't like it Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go" -
B-sided reply it's a tie between cauliflower which seems easier on my cranky Precious Pouch than the Rest of the Cabbage family and, brace yourself- Collard and other greens except Turnip ones- never could abide the veggie or its greens - YUCKY POO to the MAX! Used to ❤fresh baby green peas, but the skins of it and sweet corn, a moment on the lips but FOREVER in my diverticular pockets, ate sweet corn once and passed little reminders for 4 days straight. Yeah, TMI but just my testimony today!

re: plastics, if you just have excess skin, you won't lose as much as you think. Skin doesn't weigh very much. I think I lost about three pounds. For people starting out with a lot more fat who need lipo, that might be a different story. (btw - I lost over 200 lbs, so I had quite a bit of excess skin)

my personal little official thread
SorryNameTaken replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I completely understand. Work can be tough when it comes to time off. I hope you only need 2.5 weeks!! I feel like if you're tough enough to let them chop off skin awake in the office, you'll probably be doing great after 2.5 weeks. I'm only taking a handful of days off for my revision, which should be fine, but I am fully confident if I need more days or end up having plastics, I'll be fired, which could be a blessing after all. Also, sorry to hijack your thread but Dr. Oviedo is going to be my surgeon too! Do you like him? I literally have not met him. Dr. Glembot was going to be my surgeon, but he's booked out into late November and my insurance will no longer cover bariatric surgery come November 1, so they went into scramble mode to get me on the schedule in October. I won't even meet him until the day before surgery, so I'm a bit nervous about that. I'm just going to trust that he is competent and hope our personalities mesh well. 😃 P.S. I don't know if you know who Trogdor is, but if your dragon tattoo ends up just being a head and a tail, you could potentially turn it into Trogdor! -
I have finally gotten the weight loss to slow down. I think eating purposefully around the clock helped. I also purposely eat higher calorie carbs that get calories in and don't make me feel as full for as long. The crazy thing is it's the exact opposite of what we should do during the weight loss phase. The carbs I have are 1/3 cup of granola cereal over yogurt or mixed with 1/3 cup milk. It gives me around 150 calories and then I can eat yogurt, an egg or 1-2 oz. of meat 45 minutes later. If i only eat meat and veggies I am too full to get in other foods and only get 1000 calories max. I was loosing on that and wanted to slow it down. Granted I am not eating ice cream and cookies but still high calories and carbs and it does worry me that this could cause issues but mentally i still feel like eating is a chore and if I could I wouldn't eat a fraction of what i am now . I am hoping as I can tolerate more volume i can make healthier choices. I also can eat a 230 calorie packet of Bevita breakfast bars in under 10 minutes and eat again 45 minutes later. I have managed to get in 1400 calories the past 2 weeks. I also drink 2% milk and cook my spinach and egg in olive oil, and eat a Tbs of peanut butter, and have a RX bar during the day just to get extra calories.

Never thought I'd say this but... I am losing too much weight. I lost 7lbs in the past 2 weeks alone. I just bought a shirt in a Size 1. Yes, I know I am in the "healthy BMI range", but with my build, I am starting to look sickly and freakish. I haven't been to the gym in over 3 weeks and have my account suspended until January 1 because I have a herniated disc and then am having skin removal. So, I haven't been burning a ton of calories (purposely). I am having skin removal on November 19th which will surely take off several pounds and make me look even more rail-thin. I guess I could add an additional protein shake in during the day? It's just crazy! When does it end. lol. I have an appointment with my dietitian on the 14th. I have lost 153lbs in 11 months....

HIIT is great and blows away any steady state cardio. What type of HIIT is up to you as there are many. Personal opinion is that you absolutely should incorporate weights into your training. Building muscle is key as we loose body fat. Good luck!

How has your loose skin changed over time?
Panda333 replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Following this thread. I am a 48 year old female just starting my journey. High weight of 307. I've been overweight for 20 years.... I know I will have loose skin...trying to save money for plastics but it's reassuring hearing that it has firmed up, even for those in their 60s. so much goes into this. -
Thanks. I didn’t have any kind of surgery done (TT plastics), I’ve lost 111 so far and always had great elasticity! No extra skin at all. I am however, working out to build muscles and get more toned. Wheb did you have your surgery?

1 year 4 months out 49 years old. The loose skin on my belly did not bounce back. Not super happy with the bags under my eyes, but even though my neck is a bit wrinkly it is not the worst. I never thought plastics was going to be an option due to finances. I was okay with that. Then I found out that it is covered. I just moved out of my resistance classes and into actual strength training, so the important thing is how much better I feel and how much more I can do now. My plastics is scheduled for December 11th, I am kinda worried about the recovery time, but I am hoping that getting stronger each day prior to the surgery will help. Plus I am excited to get the added liposuction on those stubborn fat areas. -

How has your loose skin changed over time?
waterwoman replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 years out from surgery and 2 years since my weight stabilized. I am now 67 and my skin has improved significantly - especially the neck, arms and face. My stomach is OK, my butt is awful and the girls are dragging - but Spanx takes care of all of those. -

I am 18 months post op and been at a stable weight for over 6 months. My skin has not firmed up seemingly at all. The last 20 or so lbs were actually the worst as far as exacerbating the laxity and sagginess. YMMV, but in my early 40's, with over 100 lbs lost, plastics are the only realistic option for my excess skin. -
I’m feeling so strong 💪 I’ll be 1-year post-op on the 30th and hoping to reach my goal by then. I’m 7lbs away but feel pretty good about where I’m at now. I’m working out in getting toned and building muscles to avoid having excess skin and so far so good! Lost 111 lbs so far 🙌

How has your loose skin changed over time?
AZhiker replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 63, so just assumed all the sags were here to stay - turkey neck, belly, arms, inner thighs. But...... the skin actually has tightened up in all those areas, I am very happy to say, even being older. My idea is to maintain at goal weight for at least a year before making any decisions about plastics. It's only fair to give the old bod a fighting chance to firm things up. Right now, I would not even consider plastics - I was thinking about my arms and belly a few months ago, but they look better now. However, the old girls will never be the same. Nuthin gonna firm those babies up! -
No because even thinned out they would have been fairly dense and possibly with bean skins.

i am at 8 mts. post RNY. I went lower than goal at 127 now and am trying to maintain despite knowing I will probably drop another 5 since it is hard to get higher than 1400 calories in now. I feel good where I am at, I have a muscular build and don't want to drop too low since it wouldn't look good on me. I feel like i had a saggy neck the first few months but that seems to either improved or I am used to it. My belly was saggy 15 -20 lbs. ago but now seems tighter. My legs have gotten much smaller and now I noticed wrinkles above my knees 10 lbs. ago but it seems to have stayed the same the past few weeks. My bum is horrendous and looks like a 90 year old and arms too. Ugh, i am hoping as things stabilize maybe it will improve some. I also feel like the first few months my cheeks were sunken in and now despite losing more weight i feel like it has gotten better. It's weird how your body adjusts. Did your weight shift around and settle in different areas? did your loose skin firm up even with loosing more weight? -
Brachioplasty (arm lift) - are you happy with the results?
Scamp replied to rs's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I am veryyyyyyyyyyyy Happy - If you check out my profile - activity - I have put pictures on previous replies (I will try to link them here but they might not show) Yes I have scars - LOTS of scars. But - To be honest almost ten years on of Op1 next year - The emotional scars I had before were ten times worse than a few pale scars that I never think about much any more. I feel thatthe scars from the surgeries are part of the journey to find me.... Under the skin I was in there - The skin made me feel like an alien. After all the weight loss I was still an alien - Just a different type of one. I am not 100% because I have larger lower legs than I would like..... But - I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much happier than I have been in so long. I am very grateful to my surgeon (I am in UK) and he gave me a gift that is worth more than money - It is an amazing gift - The surgeon even said to me that I had changed from the person whom he met at that first consultation. I am different - I can wear clothes that do not have to have extra space to hide in. I guess it is all about whether you can accept the scars - Which are a trade off for getting rid of the skin. Before - After 1 - After 2 - After 3 - I can't remember where I put the latest one on my computer - LOL Found this one - My scars are not so good as I could not massage as well as you might be able to as I have Dystonia in one hand so I cannot use the fingers etc - And if I did it again now I would wear the compression garments for longer - 12 weeks in all! Sounds a long tme but it supports the skin during the healing and the scars I have whre I wore micropore tape and compression garments for 3mths are much finer and better than the first Ops scars.... This was a few years from the Op and now I am at 9.5yrs from the Op. But you would have to be looking to see them now and the doctors try to hide them behind the arm. I hope that helps a little. -
Compression Tights and Loose Skin
PlanetHopper replied to Fitby40icandoit's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't think you are being a downer. I appreciate your honesty. I truly believe that it is near impossible to completely prevent loose skin after having weight loss surgery because the body does not have time to adjust. -
I can eat tomatoes already, and cucumbers (easier without the skins). Haven't tried the harder veggies yet. I am 1 month post op (4 1/2 weeks)
