Thanks for asking to be my friend. Well, we all want to be healthy Right. I eat Not too much now, mostly plants ( cooked ones) with proteins first. This is not a diet any more. This will be a way of life your LB journey if you will. You will be able to eat anything you want if your body (band) will tolerate it! Eat slow and chew well. I wanted to lose weight with the help of my band. I make my own food and try to make better food choices. If it comes to you thru a window it is not REAL. Not good for you either RIGHT!! I got off soda of all kinds and sugar and fake sugar as well. I did have a short period of withdrawal it did not last long and I do not miss the stuff. It would always make me want more. Now Chocolate is different. I do have some now that I have lost 103 pounds in a years time. You do not have to give up anything you love forever. Remember this is a journey that you are in control of. If you make poor food choices the weight will not come off and if you follow the rules when you go to sleep the weight will melt away for some fast and for some slow. This band works weather you want to help it or not. If you have specific questions I will be glad to help. You know what you need to eat trust yourself to make better choices around the foods, eat less and make sure you get enough Protein rich foods to be healthy. If you don't you will feel tired I know it has happened to me. Get on a good food schedule and try to do the same each day until it becomes normal for you. Old habits are hardest to break for me the NO DRINKING with meals was the hardest. You will feel fuller longer if you do not drink during a meal. Oh I hope this helps. I had very nice people help me when I started out. Best wishes to you on your journey. imaluckydog

Did you have to do a preop diet? You won't want much when you come home. I'm 11 days post op. This is the diet I did for 2 week prior to surgery and am on for 4 weeks after. It's very limited and boring. I had my first checkup today and was hoping he would move me to 'mushys'. Nope. Blah! He did give me recipes on mixing the Protein shakes with coffee for a 'latte' type of drink. Also, he suggested flavoring the vanilla Protein drinks with the crystal light or sugar free tang. Good Luck with the surgery. :-)

Pain, Not feeling well, advice please
mjb123 replied to mjb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's head nurse called me this morning. I let her know I really think it was constipation, after the milk of magnesia kicked in it was pretty obvious. She let me know, skip the local er and just come there next time and if I start to feel worse to come see them. Although they can't do a scan they could evaluate me and forward me on to a hospital close that would understand what i've been through. It's only a little over an hour away but worth it for the peace of mind since I'm so scared of people hurting me. My arm is very painful today where the er nurse failed to get the iv in. Horrible, ugly bruise. I am feeling better today. The pressure I was feeling is going away a little more with every bm, just still in a little pain, probably from being so backed up but the pain I was feeling in my back is gone. Temperature is good and I have done that skin test to see if I'm dehydrated and I think I'm ok there. I'm back on liquids for awhile, which is fine for me, and she wants me to make sure I am introducing more Fiber regularly, but to make sure I'm drinking plenty because even the benefiber can constipate me if I'm drinking enough with it. I know looking back at what I did was foolish of me for leaving and I just should've let them get the scan done, but I just was so uncomfortable and really scared for some reason. I was only eating about half a piece of bread with my pb and j and had actually only done that for a couple days. I started noticing as I increased my Protein through foods, which cheese is my go to food, that I was becoming less regular. So I'm thinking too much cheese.... But I will remember that about the bread. Thank you for everyone's feedback. I really appreciate it. -

Thank you in advance for your help -
Thank you thank you. I've been afraid to add things because they were so strict on this stage being straight about protein.

when i was did puree week, i found that adding a "flavourless" (i mean, it's NOT flavourless, but it's alright) protein powder (at least 30g protein per serve) to yogurt really helped me. that and protein powder with low-fat milk and fruit blitzed to smoothie consistency. proud of you, you can get over the hill!

Good luck to all of you pre-ops! I am going in on 9/28! I keep reading about all of those who just had surgery and are drinking protein drinks. It's confusing me because my doc said I will be on clear liquids for the first two weeks after surgery. Was anyone else told this? Also, how long is the actual procedure? My husband will be sitting in the waiting room anxiously and would like to know for how long. Finally, my doc does not require a pre-op diet but I plan on sticking to liquids for the next two days. Any feedback is appreciated.

So, I use myfitnesspal.com and you can set that up pretty easily, but it does sometimes feel overwhelming because they have such a huge database so when you look up "boneless skinless chicken thigh" there might be 30 options. They're all about the same, just different brands, but if it's a single ingredient, the differences are so small it doesn't really matter. Just enter in the ingredient by weight in grams or ounces, or if it's like a banana or a cucumber, it might say "1 medium banana" or "1 8 inch cucumber". You can also enter that you eight 1/2 or .25 of the banana or cucumber. If you have a brand name ingredient, like you bought " Dannon light and fit greek yogurt" you can just type that in and up it comes! And it usually doesn't matter what flavor you chose, because almost always all the flavors have the same nutrition. However if you actually got Chobani greek yogurt, that might have twice as many calories/carbs because that's sweetened with sugar instead of artificial sugar. Hope that helps!

Vitamins for stopping hair loss. Yes or no?
qtdoll replied to happynewbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was taking 100% of the vitamins I needed to take, taking Finasteride, getting my full protein intake & I still dealt with hair loss around the 3rd month. It's nearly unavoidable. -
getting my band on the 26th of August. Wondering if I can mix up a cup or two of protein drink and store in frige and then pour from that container every hour instead of having to mix up 4 oz. each hour.....

Completely devastated and disappointed
Trayjay33 replied to greeneyes22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi sorry you had to hear that from your surgeon that was just unnecessary. MFP is pretty good and I think your diet is great overall. It's similar to what I eat actually. But we all go through what's going on moments. Sometimes our body needs more variety or it gets in a pattern of holding on to the weight. At Least that's what I'm telling myself to stay positive. ???? The Lentil soup might have a lot of Protein but I'm not sure about the carb content, might be high. Also, the same with vegetable soup high carbs. As far as fruits I had to switch up from Raspberries and Blueberries to Strawberries and small plums because my body wasn't digesting them properly after a while. I try to stay away from apples most of the time...high in sugar. Another option for fruit is kiwi and/or a 1/2 small blood orange but again in moderation. For yogurt I like the Yoplait 100 and choboni 100. For vegetables just not starchy vegetables corn or potatoes. Also if you are exercising, try getting in adequate calories if possible. It will turn around soon. -
Hey girls. I'm set for my sleeve on Nov 1. I have been on a strict liquid diet since the 18th and boy it's been tough. Proteins, broth, fruits, vegetables and sf jello. First few days sucked but a week tomorrow and ive lost 8.5 lbs already. But, did I mention it's hard? Especially since I have little to no support and my family still has to eat and I'm the one cooking for them. But..... 1 week to go. Hopefully I can make it. We all can!!! Looks like we are all in this together!!! Go us!!!!

Got the sleeve on July 20 - totally exhausted-help
Gracious_woman replied to pnt38's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is normal to feel exhausted continue getting in as much Protein and Water as you can. I know the first couple of weeks getting 30 grams of protein down seemed impossible. It gets better as time progresses. I got a burst of energy on week 3 and then lost it after doing several projects and cleaning my house. Week 5 is better I am having energy enough to make it to the gym and do a few things. Remember it takes time for your body to heal and adjust. -
Got the sleeve on July 20 - totally exhausted-help
Bufflehead replied to pnt38's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's normal to be completely exhausted for several weeks after major surgery. Give yourself a break. Keep working on getting your fluid and protein in -- that's critical for your recovery and will help in restoring your energy levels. Go for short walks several times a day and nap when you need to. -
Rny And Arthritis
TurnThePage replied to ShirleyJ84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
RNY people can not take oral NSAIDs such as Aleve, Ibuprofen, Motrin--meds many people take for arthritis--because they can cause painful ulcers. That leaves you with fewer options for managing your arthritis pain, Your doctor may prescribe Vicodin, but that can impair your thinking or make you sleepy. I have had good luck taking Cymbalta for severe arthritis, but it's not for everyone. It's something to think seriously about because arthritis only gets worse over time. I've had a hip replaced and am about to have a shoulder replaced as well. -
No Pre-Op Diet? Drain Port?
Branmuffin replied to newlife082318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience exactly! I had to do 10 days of no carb or sugar and high protein but it was no big deal cause I'd already changed my eating. I had small glued incisions (4) that were closed by the 4th day out. Loved it! -

My problems are: gas, sore sore sore!, nausea.. Esp when waking up, and getting enough Fluid in. I'm drinking my first Protein shake now, with skim milk- any tips? I'm definitely having a rougher time than anticipated. -
How do you handle the pressure?
enjoythetime replied to Deedee13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the above responses to this post are spot on. It is your decision and your life. There's no wrong decision but make sure it's what YOU want. In my situation I didn't even research any of the other surgeries, in fact I didn't even know what the sleeve was until I went in for the group consultation where all procedures were explained. I'm 5'1 and weighed 289lbs., I'm now almost 1 year post op and am down 142lbs, weighing 147lbs, so I've lost almost 100% of my weight so whatever doctor is telling you that you have too much weight to lose for the band to work is full of shit!!:-) Anyone know matter what your starting weight has just as much of a chance for success with the band as they do anyother procedure. Yes, you will have to work harder, and no it may not melt off as fast as some of the other surgeries but it's the least invasive and most flexible option. Good luck on your decision and just remember this is for YOU!! -
Hydrate! Get some water with electrolytes and add a lil liquid protein shot from gnc or the like. Also, call your doctor.
