I prefer FAGE, and add a shot of sf torani hazelnut and a few slivered almonds for crunch... also ground flax seed is nice. You can also flavor the plain yogurt with sf pudding mix. You'll want to avoid the yogurts with sugar, of course. You can also add a spoon of no sugar added all fruit preserves, I think. Enjoy!

Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..
timetobefree replied to steelergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, All! Sleeved 11/9, so I am 11 days out. Or 12. Whatever. I've been on purees/mushies for four days now. Well-blended chicken salad, egg salad, scrambled eggs, soft cheese, yogurt. Everything goes down just fine. My frustration is I am still really hungry all the time. Keep hoping it'll go away soon! I would love to eat tomato soup and/or spaghetti sauce, but I was told no acidic foods until 3 weeks out, so 10 more days. -

June 2012 Sleevers Post Op Check In
MinaT replied to robin33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like things are going well. Good for you. I hope everyone else is doing well. I got okayed to get in the pool and walk around, which I have been doing. Getting in no problem being in no problem getting out - I do feel a bit of tugging and pulling on my tummy and that's due to that silly thing we call gravity. While inside the pool your body is compressed by the water, the 1/2 way in with the belly and 1/2 way out is not that comfy. My incisions are healed, but I have a few annoying white stitches (suppose to be dissolvable sticking out that will need to be trimmed which irritate me a bit. I'm still on full liquids, though I have gotten in some watery instant mashed with added unjury unflavored protein, I did try watery scrambled eggs (less than 1/2 egg (eggbeaters) and a few teaspoons of 1% cottage cheese (these are considered Pureed - but the protein shakes were gagging me and I had to try something). I live mostly on seriously pureed and watered down bean and bacon soup I can get in less than 1/4 cup of soup for dinner. I had Cream of asparagus last night, which was pureed first before adding skim and cooking. I can only get in 1/4 of a cup of soup a day, plus 1/2 small container of yogurt or 1/2 a sugar free pudding. I'm still hitting on 450-489 calories a day. I'm doing better on my protein. I bought the nectar, which I had yesterday but though I decided to try my frosty chocolate this morning to see if I am doing better than Monday, each sip is still hit or miss, but I'm getting it down better today than Monday. I try to get in 6-8 isopure a day too. I have had a lot of personal tragedies in my personal life which has been painful lost a friend and a beloved pet last week, but I'm trying to stay positive, though I admit I am getting cranky. 5 week post-op check up and meeting with nutritionist is Monday. I better....be allowed pureeds...I would like to try pureed tuna and I have had the stupid pouches in the fridge for 2 weeks hoping for the day I get to move along. Sometimes I worry that I will never be able to get down more than a 3 teaspoons of anything down at a sitting and I will always be abnormal. It's not really about the food, it's about the fact that I take a few sips of soup or 2 teaspoons of cottage cheese and I felt like I had a 16 ounce steak and baked potato. Poop talk below - beware! BM's are hard to come by. For those suffering liquid in liquid out, I miss those moments. I miss the gas and water. I am taking a prescription of amitiza (like colace) and resorted to suppositories for now and am waiting to see if I can start metamucil or something else soon, because ....I know I'm a girl, but I miss farting and I miss pooping. I have had severe issues with intestines in the past with adhesions around them, and I have had diverticulitis and I get polyps and I just know that going potty is good for you, not going potty is not good for you and that's playing with my head a bit. The weather is humid and hitting a 100 and nobody in my family really wants to go walking with me at night. I almost went this morning but it was already miserable out. I am going to attempt the gazelle again, but it pulled a bit too much on my tummy a few days ago when I tried. Unfortunately, I had a hernia repair and of course some pretty good complications so I have to take it light, but I would really like to get more exercise in. Weight loss has slowed to a crawl, I have weighed the same basically for almost a week (i've gotten on the scale in the afternoon to enjoy a 3+ on the scale just to be down the next day) and it's probably due to the heat and I'm going to cut myself some slack though it gets on my nerves a bit. Everyone says I look like I lost a lot more weight, so maybe it's inches though my tummy is still nice and swollen. I would think after 5 weeks it would have dropped by now. I have nice curves on my sides but 2 inches above my belly button is jetted out still. Obviously I'm healing slow, maybe my age and Lupus is causing me to be a slower healer. I'm still happy I had the surgery. I had a goal of 199 by July 18th, the way I was losing I was certain I would make it, but this up & down thing has me crawling. I hope everyone else if feeling well and every day is a little better than the day before. Good luck healing and enjoying the loser's bench. -
FRUSTRATED Grocery shopper..
LindafromFlorida replied to Lifechange>40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look for the yogurt that has 13 grams or less sugar. I buy one that has 9 grams of sugar per my NUT. Walmart has EAS protein powder that was allowed, in vanilla only. I add Torani sugar free flavored syrups or Crystal Light powder to change it up. Torani syrups come in chocolate, hazelnut, salted caramel, raspberry, gingerbread, etc. and are sold at World Market, Amazon or the coffee section of the grocery store. We found Premier shakes at Sam's Club, but 3 months post op were told to stop the shakes. Now I have 3 cases of shakes sitting here. I learned not to stock up. Use this time of healing to experience new things at the grocery store, walking slow and reading labels. Make sure you always eat before you go to the store, it will keep you from spending extra money I have learned. -
Any May 26th Sleevers out there?
linzdiane replied to scoutmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Feeling good now, got a little brave this morning and tried some scrambled eggs and cottage cheese, maybe a tbsp of each. Ouch.... Food is going to take time! Not drinking with the food is also a huge challenge. Only takes about 2 tbsp of yogurt to fill me up as well. Thought I was feeling good enough to skip pain meds today but starting to get a little more pain and soreness, may have to get a small dose. -
Any May 26th Sleevers out there?
scoutmom replied to scoutmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there - I am feeling really good, a bit sore on the belly and still some shoulder pain from the gas. My doctor pumped tons of liquid through my IV so the discharge nurse suggested not weighing until tomorrow morning to give the Water weight time to dissipate. Getting the water in will forever be my challenge. Unfortunately, my doc has me on full liquids for another week. I'm dying for yogurt or something substantial. Head hunger has me a bit cranky.....but I knew that this would be my challenge. food is a major source of entertainment for our family - so re-training my brain is the focus! Glad everyone is doing well! -
Hey ladies. I also love greek yogurt. Can't wait for mushies phase, I'm all over it. There are also some seriously yummy and HIGH Protein brands that I buy here in Vegas: Products | FAGE Total Authentic Greek Yogurt Voskos Greek Yogurt - Products The Voskos also has some good recipes on their page for the yogurt. The Fage non-fat is 20 grams of protein per serving, and the non-fat Voskos is 24 grams of protein PER serving. Craziness! YUM!:smile::smile::smile:

So the idea of eating liquids and things without texture or grain is that they don't want to stimulate the gut to start "churning" and scrunching like it does when solid or semi-solid foods are introduced. When I was on full liquids I was allowed: clear fluids without sugar or caffeine, protein drinks, and yogurt that was low carb/low sugar and free of any fruit that was thinned down to pourable consistency (think soup texture). I was also allowed ice pops (sf) and sf jello. The problem with eating pureed soups thinned down at this stage is that even pureeing chicken will leave a sludgish texture that has grit or grain to it. And it will cause your stomach to grind too much. So don't try to game the system. If it doesn't appear on your plan, don't do it. LOL. You CAN make up cream soups with Fairlife FF Milk. Strain it and slowly add in a scoop of unflavored protein in order to up your protein content of the meal. That would add smooth consistency, absence of texture and should help satiety by upping your protein. And FYI, 1 pint should take you about 8 hours or more to consume at your stage. Each meal 2 hours apart and 4oz per meal approximately.

*waves* Hi, y'all. Long time no see Let me share my current experience with this. On Tuesday, I got a fill - from 1.75 to 2.5. I felt immediate restriction - all good - happy happy. Tuesday night I had Soup for dinner, slept like a baby. Wednesday, I had my Protein bar for Breakfast (not my brightest moment), yogurt for lunch and instant potatoes for dinner. I was still a little hungry after dinner, so I had a graham cracker, and my Water. I was up off and on Wednesday night with horrible reflux. Thursday, I had a Protein shake for breakfast, yogurt for lunch and really really runny instant potatoes for dinner. Had my water. Had a snackwell's chocolate cookie (ugh). Up most of the night with reflux. Still have it this morning. Now, I came to the board to read a bit because I'm thinking - this is too tight, not good. Then I realized...my period is due tomorrow. And when I have good restriction, I am always tighter a few days before and a few days into my cycle. And it's not just my stomach, I can feel it all over in my midsection, which says to me - you're bloated, Jill, get over it~ So I'm not panicing (thank you), but I am back on straight liquids, and I'll go get some Prilosec before I go home tonight. If this hasn't cleared up by mid week, I'll go get a partial unfill. Til then, I'm babying the band.

I’m sorry it has been rescheduled. I guess that’s another reason to go to Mexico. I am an RN and work for a major hospital group…in home health. If I worked for the hospital, they would cover 100%. Since I do home health….they have no bariatric rider so I have to pay cash. I never thought that I would get this far with it. I realize I’ve been on my high protein low carb diet just 24 hours, but not once did I stop and get a Pepsi or food. I took PB and celery, ate tuna and yogurt throughout the day. The hardest part will be spaghetti and potatoes. I love my pasta but that’s what has me at 254 pounds. We can all do this. Best of luck to you and keep me updated!

I mix FAGE Total 2% plain yogurt with 20g of Protein with Bio Chem unflavored whey protein 20g. I don't taste the protein powder. There's no gritty texture. In fact, it's richer and creamier now. If I hadn't been the sneaky culprit who spiked my own yogurt, I'd never notice the protein powder in there. After my post-op protein struggles, I'm finally getting some protein. Still not the recommended amount, but a whole lot more than before.

I felt the same way. I had surgery on the 17th and I am hungry. On the full liquid phase, you have more to chose from. I have been buying any kind of campbells soups and putting them in the blender to liquify and drinking that. soo good. I also have sugar-free chocolate pudding, yogurt, popsicles, sugar-free fudgesicles. Try some new stuff and maybe you won't feel deprived. I also wasn't getting enough protein and water and I think that is why I was feeling so hungry.

My favorite yogurt in the world is Fage 0%. Fage is a plain greek yogurt so you've got to be a fan of that, but with a little liquid splenda and some flavoring it's so much higher in protein and you get to control what's in it.

PUREE STAGE? THROWING UP- NOT HUNGRY !
ISleevedIt replied to dat_sweetmami's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Did you take your Vitamins on an empty stomach because that could cause nausea making you throw up? I've advance to solid foods and I still use my baby spoon. I eat no more than half a spoon at a time now and I make sure I chew he food to death or I'll feel discomfort. I remember throwing up with greek yogurt because I was thinking and ate too big a spoonful. I know what you mean about not feeling hungry, but you need to get your Proteins and fluids in. You'll get the hang of this eating thing. Good luck! -
Discouraged with "planning" meals
Kindle replied to SlowlybutSurely's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't plan meals. I'm single, live alone, hate cooking and I've always been a deli take out kind of gal. Postop I'm pretty much the same. I try to keep a lot of Protein staples in the house...eggs, cheese, tuna fish, deli sliced meats, canned Soups (that I add unjury protein to), Greek yogurt, milk, avacodos, refried Beans, Syntrax nectar powders, Premier Protein, etc. One of my best finds was Tyson frozen grilled chicken. Comes in a resealable bag and I can just grab a couple pieces and throw them in the microwave. The only real "prepping" I do is make mini burger patties (I get 8 out of a pound of ground beef) and freeze them individually. I also keep frozen veggies around and drink V8 and 100% no sugar added juice everyday. I usually have a big Protein shake for Breakfast and I travel all day for work, so I keep Protein Bars, string cheese, mixed nuts and Jerky handy to snack on all day. When I go home at the end of the day, if nothing at home seems appealing, I swing by the store and pick up whatever looks yummy. Whatever it is usually lasts several days before I'm over it and give the rest to the dogs. I really haven't stressed about food prep or planning....just eat what I'm in the mood for, protein first, then veggies, carbs last and rarely. -
Any Sleevers Who Are 5 - 10 Years Out?
Valentina replied to Lyle S. Tucker's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hell on earth? Basically.. some people's sleeves (mine included at least right now) cannot tolerate certain foods and when they eat those foods it causes immediate and severe diaherria, nausea, (and at least in my case vomitting). I'm talking where you're in front of the toilet and it's coming out both ends for several hours - at least that's my experience with it. However, you can avoid it by avoiding the foods that cause it if you ever experience it. For instance, Right now that means I can't have any ice cream (which is very sad as I love ice cream). I dislike yogurt but I found out that I do like frozen yogurt so I've been eating that to fulfill my ice cream craving (once in a while only!) and it's made it bearable lol. Sometimes dumping syndrome and the foods you can't eat fade over time post surgery for those who have it and sometimes they do not, but it's less common in sleeve patients than in gastric bypass patients. Foods that are likely to cause dumping syndrome include: any sugary foods or drinks, pastas, breads, rice etc. Wow. That sounds horrible. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App It's not pleasant, but I have grown to accept it as another "tool". Dumping keeps me honest and on track. Believe me, once you've experienced dumping you will try VERY hard not to have it again. Sooo, I don't eat Pasta, rice, bread, anything overly sweet, rich, or spicy. sounds like good bariatric thinking, right? That's why I don't regret that I am one of the 17%! -

I am going to go to the store tomorrow and get appropriate foods for weeks 1-4. I am going to try and make the best of it. I love jello, milk and yogurt so it shouldnt be that bad. I found Premier protein shakes on Amazon. Anyone have any thoughts on Premier Protein drinks?

1 week post-op...
bringingsexyback1 replied to CharmedRyan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had Gastric sleeve done on 05/06. The first day was miserable.. Even the smallest of sips hurt. By day three that was much improved, as I was able to eat a 5 oz yogurt and drink 5 oz at a time. No pain meds needed after day three either. The hardest thing by far is the liquid diet. I feel starved. It's taking great mental strength to follow but I am doing it. I didn't think I would feel this hungry with such a small stomach. It's pure hell, but this too shall pass. -
I'm also on the 6 month insurance required supervised diet. I'm at the end of month 4 and have lost 48.2lbs so far. The diet my surgeon / nutritionist gave me is similar to described by ojibway above. I wasn't given a calorie goal, but rather a list of things to give up (carbonation, caffeine, sweetened drinks) and a list of foods that I need to eat daily, across 6 meals a day focusing on portion control. I usually end up between 1600-1800 calories per day with this plan. Typical day looks like: Breakfast = oikos triple zero Greek yogurt and 1 cup of oatmeal Snack = sargento "balanced break" pack Lunch = healthy choice Cafe steamers meal ( the nutritionist gave me a list of approved frozen meals) Snack = 2 pieces of low fat string cheese and a piece of fruit Dinner = 4-6oz of meat or fish, a healthy carb such as brown rice or sweet potato, and a veggie Snack = usually a repeat of either snack 1 or snack 2, or sometimes 1 serving of special K strawberry with 1cup of fairlife skim milk
