On Tuesday I got a tiny fill of .2 cc's. I stayed on liquids and then mushies and then on Friday I tried real food. I had no problems. Yesterday I ate real food and even ate out at supper with no problems. This morning I drank my coffee and took my meds- 9 pills total- no problem. Then at noon I tried to eat some Greek Yogurt. I ate it slowly. It took almost 40 minutes to finish it and it got stuck. I threw it up. Now when I drink I can feel my liquids trickling down and If I take a big drink rather than a sip it feels like it's going to come back up. I burp a lot and then it will finally go down. What's the deal? I swallowed my pills this morning with no issues so what's going on now? Is it possible I irritated my band by swallowing the pills? They were all small except for 2 and those 2 were gelcaps.

Liquid Diet Before Lap Band Surgery?
katyana replied to Tulip16's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was a 2 week "full liquid" diet, 1000 calories per day. I was allowed juices, soups, protein shakes, yogurts, sugar-free jello and puddings, that sort of thing. And then for the last 48 hours before surgery, we had to switch to clear liquid only - we were allowed anything you could see through, so it was mostly juice (apple, cranberry, grape, that sort of stuff, nothing like orange), broth (chicken, beef or vegetable), and only clear protein drinks (I got some from Isopure, at my local GNC). The point was to shrink the liver, to make the surgery go better. My surgeon said I did great, that my liver looked really good and that surgery was a breeze (mine was last Thursday). -

Picky eater need some ideas for after surgery food
FlowerGirl44 replied to Gigi G's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can be picky at times, so I get it. I have been writing down things I will be able to eat after surgery at different phases. I will share what I have: First couple of days will be clear liquids such as water, Gatorade/Powerade, sugar free popsicles, decaf tea and coffee, broth or bullion, protein water. After that will come the pureed stage, where you can enjoy things like skim milk/almost milk to make a protein shake with, strained creamy soups, sugar free puddings, Greek yogurt (no chunks), mashed potatoes (soupy consistency), sugar free fudge & fruit bars, cream of wheat (soupy), sugar free ice cream, applesauce with no sugar added, and anything you can puree like baby food such as fruits (non-citrus) and veggies. You can make protein pudding with sugar free pudding and protein shakes. You can make something called Ricotta Bake. I found the recipe on Pinterest. Sugar free whipped cream with sugar free pudding mixed. You can also get unflavored protein powder to add to these foods to get your protein in for the day. Cottage cheese blended smooth. After a couple of weeks, you can graduate to a little more texture like runny scrambled eggs, egg and tuna salad, soft cheeses, refried beans, mashed bananas, etc. I find a lot of useful recipes on Pinterest. This is the guidance from my nutritionist so yours could be a little different. -
2nd Stage Diet (Puree): What do you eat?
cranialmalady replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did this protein mousse with 8 oz light soy milk, small package of sugar free pudding, 2 servings of protein powder and some fat free whip cream. Blend the heck out of it and refrigerate it. It makes 4 servings and really helps me get my protein in. Other than that I've been doing lots of refried beans, soups, Greek yogurt....my doctor doesn't do a puréed stage. We just have to chew really well so I've been doing some fish and soft meats. I have a couple of reduced fat chicken Vienna sausages for breakfast. They are easy to mush up and so far so good with them. -
2nd Stage Diet (Puree): What do you eat?
Rena1979 replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No appearing to have any difficulty eating any certain foods, just had egg substitutes,1/4 cup with ff cheese and cottage cheese blended with peaches for breakfast. Pretty good. Don't get hungry just know I need to eat, so doing well over here. My mother is here to help which is nice, going to try yogurt for lunch and maybe some tuna. Good luck everyone! Hope the day is treating you well. -

Protein powder taste?
SandyinFL replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback. I'll try a little of the Isopure powder I have (a small bag) and see how it goes. At least now I know I won't be ruining a whole cup of yogurt or pudding. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone using this protein? Feedback please...
AB2B replied to AB2B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for your response. I've read here lots of people use the Isopure and love it. I generally enjoy most protein shakes, but opted to buy unflavored for after surgery. Thinking I could mix it into broths, yogurt and creamy soups. Luckily, GNC gives 30 days to decide if you don't like it to return. -
June 21 2017 new beginnings
Sc882012 replied to Sc882012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im doing better now that I'm in week two. I get a few gas bubbles because I forget I can't gulp water or whatever I'm drinking at the time. I haven't had nausea at all during this whole new life change which is surprising. Hopefully yours will stop soon it gets easier, I think when day 7 came everything seemed to be a lot better! I figured I needed more protein because my body was so week, my friend and I both got some protein shakes so we did that one day and felt soooo much better. And getting to have a few bites of yogurt was a nice change! Things are finally starting to get better! -
I went for my one week postop visit today. I am acting exactly like a sleeve patient being miserable the first week or so. He wasn't happy at how weak I was and told me to drink fruit juice or yogurt smoothie to get sugar into me. He was surprised I was able to drink a protein drink. He said I looked a lot better compared to the hospital. The reason for not being able to take deep breaths is because he had to cut the muscle a little bit deeper where the port was to get the band out, very little scar tissue and bruised like you know what! He said I could start blended food for a week then try soft foods and see how it goes. I really liked him. I gave him hell and he laughed. Plus another week off of work! Good. I've had a hard time with this. Ask me anything.

Not an expert on this, but from what I've read and heard on here you should be on clear liquids and not yogurt. I think that is the second stage about 2 weeks down the road. I would stick with protein drinks, popsicles, hot broth, water, koolaid (unsugared) and not go to yogurt yet. If I'm wrong please someone who is banded jump right in. I just think she is trying yogurt much too soon.

I'm Back and Banded but sooo hungry
gadgetlady replied to IrishAnna's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The first 3-4 days I was so swollen I had trouble with even drinks, too. I wouldn't have dared try yogurt. Protein shakes were difficult but I could get them down. Also try diluted cream of wheat or rice or diluted baby Cereal. For some reason that slid down prety well, while I absolutely could NOT get Jello down! Drink, drink, drink. And teeny-tiny sips. I'm one week out now and still had trouble with jello last night. The worst part is when there's a traffic jam -- something trying to go down and a burp trying to come up. I realized it was mostly with the Protein Shakes, I think because I blend them up and they get a lot of air in them, which then has to be burped up. So keep it SLOW. The faster you drink, the more air you swallow. -
The dreaded "in-between" stage in clothing sizes - HELP!
nursmate2 replied to Christina T.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Eclectick I could not drink the shakes post-op but my NUT kept after me to do so. I have tried and returned several in the past 3 months. I have finally found PE Science Snickerdoodle..OMG...so good, I could eat it by the scoop. I mix it with 12 OZ of fair life milk for a glorious 44 grams of Protein. I eat lunch that consist of a lean protein and a veggies...a nectar shake-fuzzy naval at the gym and then a small dinner usually cottage cheese, protein and veggie or yogurt. I usually end up at about 90 grams of protein and 500-600 calories. Put you Vitamins in a med box and carry them in your bag..set an alarm on your phone and take them. Always have a bottle or glass of Water with you and drink...This is the hardest thing I have every done and I have struggled but it's your life and your future. Take care of yourself. Be well! -

Can 1 Cc Really Make That Much Of A Difference?
gonnabethin replied to nancyginnm's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes- 24 hour to 48 hour liquid only!! GO SLOW!! I'm 6yrs out, felt like a little fill would help me lose last 15#--- wrong 0.3cc made me overfilled!!! I have had horrific reflux, can't sleep even sitting up, choking, burning, coughing, PB'ing, sliming, very few solids, too tight for yogurt, takes an hr to drink protein-- going for unfill. I tried to allow swelling to go down- I've waited a month, I'm too tight for liquids even. Less than 1cc can make a HUGE difference!! -
Help!! Cant find low carb mushy foods
terril replied to hazeleyedstef's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seems like every Dr has their own protocol. I was banded on 11/16/10 and I am currently on mushies. I have been eating low fat small curd cottage cheese, fat free yogurt, instant mash potatoes, Soup, eggs….plus Protein shakes and I have been feeling great and losing weight! Maybe check with the nutritionist and ask for specific examples of products >5 carbs. My nutritionist never mentioned that restriction. I was just told to keep I low fat/low cal, make sure sugar is listed as one of the first 3 ingredients on the nutrition label and the other standard list of “no-no’s” Good luck with your surgery!! -
ok to me they all have a yogurt after taste the cranberry taste like strawberry yogurt the orange like orangey strawberry yogurt and not done the lemon yet but i assume its the same. not sure if thats my funky taste buds other people sipped it to try and said its yogurty tasting but it is alot easier to get down than the shakes and is nice over ice feels cooling.

Looking for friendly advice
izzy13 replied to jecca109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 months out and didn't do the sugar free thing, I don't mind stevia it doesn't bother my stomach so I like oikos triple zero yogurt and Water flavor drops at target that list stevia and fruit juice as ingredients. It's hard but I don't necessarily think sugar free is all that great, Whole Foods are much better you just have to watch portions and make sure you don't over do it and sabotage your weight loss. Healthy is where it's at, not chemicals. Oh and I forgot to add, hot chocolate really helped me with water I have 1 packet of Swiss miss milk chocolate and add a little fair life milk. Also Popsicles!!!! Omg I ate them all the time after surgery when I was in full liquids. -

sesargent replied to jecca109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure no expert at only 6 days out myself but my Dr said be careful not to gulp water, very small sips or you would get chest/ back pain. It could also be acid reflux. I heard this surgery is notorious for that. My Dr allows you during this phase to have tomato juice (heaven!!) or V8. Can you do yogurt? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Food intake after surgery
GreenEyedMamma replied to chrismta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every doctor has a different requirement. I was just sleeved last Thursday. My doc kept me on clear/very thin liquids for one week. This included Protein drinks, broth, Jell-O, crystal light, etc. I progressed to mushy foods Thursday evening and had mashed sweet potatoes (about 1/2 a cup and it took me 45 minutes to eat). I ate a scrambled egg with a very little amount of mozzarella cheese yesterday for Breakfast and again, it took me about 45 minutes to eat. I am able to eat about 1/2 cup of pretty much anything mushy and be fine including cottage cheese, fat-free greek yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I will stay on mushy foods until next Friday and will be able to progress to canned tuna, shredded chicken, etc. at that time IF my stomach can handle it. I haven't had any problem with nausea and foods yet but I do get "bubbly" if I eat to fast. I haven't had a problem with hunger pangs but I do get head hunger if I am watching cooking shows or my husband brings home fast food for himself. My doc doesn't recommend any carbonated beverages ever because the carbonated gas can expand the stomach. I have found that if I am not thinking about food, I just don't get the urge to eat. I have to remind myself to eat something every couple of hours. I am only able to get in around 650 calories a day but I do make sure I get in at least 90 grams of protein per day and try to keep the carbs below 40. Like I said, every doctor will have a different requirement. Your body will also tell you when it is ready to advance. Best of luck to you and I hope your surgery goes well. Dawn -
At your stage my surgeon had me drinking milk only for a snack. Food i was eating cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, cream of wheat, I was also allowed pureed meats and eggs but they did not agree with me at that stage so i live on yogurt, cottage cheese and protein shakes until i hit the soft food stage.

Eating too much post op???!
imhoffivannia replied to ashleyrenee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Ash!!! congrats on your band!! yayyyy! but listen!!! do not over do it. Do eat more than your 4-6 oz please. I was banded in 2009. from 215 came down to 168 in about 10 months. It was great.... but holidays came around and i stopped meassuring. Now i'm back on Protein shakes and soft foods. (yogurts, sweet baby food, etc.) because i gained some weight back and started to have really bad heart burn, nassua and stated to want to throw up! But most of all i couldn't swallow anything!! it felt like a had rocks in my thourht or asophagus!!! i started to research here on the site and found out by pouch has probably sretched and in danger of slippage. So on Monday i started with my Protein Shakes, and all of that kind of stuff. it was soooooooo darn scary to even think of having my (baby) band removed or having any kind of issues like slippage or erosion!! so please, please, please. do not over eat or over drink. Don't get comfortable with your weight once you start to hit or get closer to your ideal weight!!!! i thought i was in really deep s****! but thankfully i'm smart enough to had noticed that something wasn't right. and i made the changes i should have NEVER gotten away from. remember, this is a tool. I would even eat a drunkstick from Popeyes here and there..... not good at all and very stupid of me!!! just please be careful. we invest a lot!!!!! puting our bodies, bank accounts, etc through this to have it taken away. love always, iva
