    need advice

No regrets whatsoever for me!!! And nothing for me was really the "worse part." I could have been released the day after surgery, but my program called for 2 nights hospital stay. If there was a "worse part" it would have been in the first 10 hours or so after surgery when rolling over and sitting up was uncomfortable. But all the walking I did after surgery really helped me with that. Everybody is different. My first week was a snap and it has been ever since. I've been really lucky! Maybe you will be too. Here's the best advice I can give... Be prepared for stalls in weight loss. They will happen soon and more times than you'd hope. Celebrate the little victories of a pound here and a pound there. You're not on the game show The Biggest Loser and your weight isn't going to melt off. Don't let the scale rule your life. I weigh in once a week, but I know some people who only weigh in at their monthly or quarterly doctor's checkup. Judge your weight loss by how loose your clothes get, how slim your face looks, and how much energy you have once you've hit your sleeve weight-loss stride. Good luck and take care.
  2. For post op people: What supplements have you been taking after your surgery? I've heard that some people have to now incorporate a hair skin and nail Vitamin, what else should i consider? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I am taking the diet mentality out of my life. I see the way I eat now as my new normal. Is it different then how I used to eat? Yes and that is a good thing, it is a lifestyle change. I understand what you meant though. We will always need to be mindful and vigilant about what and how much we are eating. I like you, will occasionally take a bite here and there of some of the foods I have decided not to eat. I think this is just healthy living and not a diet. To the op. It might be helpful for you to make a list of all the reasons you decided to have this surgery and look at them when you are feeling regret. Make a new list of the things you would like to do as you loose weight and check them off as you achieve them. I am a firm believer in having a positive attitude. Try to focus on what you are gaining and not what you have lost or perceive that you have lost.

    On the other side

Hi camper! I was also sleeved June 2nd and feeling great for the most part. My incisions are itchy but healing skin always is. My abdominal muscles are still a little sore and I am kinda over this liquid diet lol. Mushies start the 16th yay!! I've lost 25 lbs since starting two week pre-op diet!!! My pants almost fell off at my little Bro's hockey game like 6 times! I'm excited but kinda sad that I have to get rid of clothes...I freakin love clothes lol

    Hernia in belly button?

Not this type - but losing weight made me aware I have hernias at each end of my caesar scar. When they became visible, I suddenly noticed them. I pressed on one and SQUELCH - it was disgusting! they look like two golf balls under the skin, its weird. I saw my doc when i went for a pap smear (just the gp, not a gyno) and she said "oh, dont worry about it". But I think I'll follow it up becuase hernias of course can strangulate and if its squelching, its obviously bits of my guts poking out (disappears when I like on my back)! Plus it looks awful. I also notice that after I've been on my feet all day or done a lot of running they ache.

    Took A Big Step Today....

Today at my company's golf tourney, I broke the news to my best friend about Ty and me getting Lap-Band. ( We had been drinking most of the morning and she just got done telling me that the reason why we were best friends was because we were completely honest... how could I not tell her at the point?) She seems shocked at first. Then told me she didn't think that I needed, that I looked fine. I told her that I weigh more than people think I weigh and she asked how much, when I told her that I weighed 275 she was even more shocked. I've always known that I hold my weight evenly all over my body and that I am naturally a thick girl, but I know that I'm not at a healthy weight. She was very interested on how we came to this conclusion, and if I felt that I was doing it just because Ty was, and I'm not. After she had all the facts she was ok with everything. She's supportive of the things that I need in life, so it's going to be good I feel. In the seminar last week, the women that came up to talk about their success stories told us that you learn who your true friends are after Lap-Band. I told my friend this, and I can pretty much peg who is going to have a problem with me loosing weight, and it won't be her. She told me that she isn't my friend because I'm overweight, and she won't be my friend just because I'm skinny, she's my friend because she just is. That is comforting to know. Well, I need to head to bed, I just wanted to get that out on print before the week starts. I hope everyone has a productive week this week. Until next time. Shells P.S. Attached is me at the golf tourney today goofing around.... giving clear evidence on my I need Lap-Band... it's terrible.

    Starving

I am supposed to eat low fat cottage cheese and yoghurt for one week prior to the op. This is gonna work out okay because I just ate the last of the President's Choice icecream, and the high-fat cheese last night. (I am a dairy freak by the way.) They didn't give me any other instructions. Tonight, I plan to eat 2 filet mignons. I am defrosting them right now. I will also eat diced new potatoes, with their tender little skins left on, sauteed in olive oil with fresh rosemary, hot peppers, and onions. And I might have a beefsteak tomato as well. Yup, I know, I know, all of you hate me right now but the reason that I am racking up the ole food memories is because I will be living on liquids for 3 weeks, mushies following that, and after that will be a whole new way of eating solids. This is Green's good-bye tour around the food court. It's strange, you know, but along with the rebirth that the band will give me, and I know that it will, I am feeling that a little part of me is dying.:think It is for this reason, I guess, that I find that I am being super attentive to what's on my plate.:hungry: But there will be the new slender Green, and I am so anxious to say good bye to quite a few pounds of the old Green, so everything is gonna be coool. (I just hope I don't ever get the slimies.:phanvan Yuck!)

    100 lbs.!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing and for being an inspiration. I am kinda on the fence, leaning more towards doing it esp. after reading your sucess and knowing that it is possible!! I have 200 plus to loose, so the road seems really long.
  9. Today I am 45 days out. I take my vitamins daily, get my fluids in with no problem and am tolerating food very well. I almost feel like I'm doing too well...reading some of the things on here have me perplexed. I have to remind myself that everyone is different, everyone heals differently. I'm down 38 pounds. Whenever I get the thought in my mind that I am not progressing fast enough I remind myself that this is the most weight I have lost in ages. I continue to gain and lose the same five pounds, then it finally falls off. Then I plateau and gain/lose the next 5 pounds. Like I said, its frustrating me to no end, but I am trying to be realistic with myself. Slow and steady wins the race, and I am giving my skin time to adjust to the loss as well. Observations and Weird sensations: Sometimes I can barely finish a yogurt while other times I can eat quite a bit more. (For example, a bean burrito from taco bell or a 6 inch sub on flatbread from Subway) I can feel the food shift in my stomach; I've never had that sensation before. Sadly, the sleeve doesn't get rid of PMS cravings. I still have to fight myself about eating crap. The difference is now I can talk myself out of it 95% of the time whereas before I was 95% sure I would eat it anyway. Since I am not consistently on sugar/carbs like I used to be I can actually feel myself crash from eating something carb/sugar rich. It's enough to make me not want to eat them. I've found if I've eaten a few bites too much, I can get rid of that feeling much faster by walking. Walking actually helps move my food. Before surgery, walking while I was stuffed was sheer torture. If I was overly full, I would feel that way for a long time. a couple hours even, before I would get any relief, I definitely feel restriction. I eat maybe a 1/4 to an 1/8 of what I used to. I can't throw up. I've had the sensation a few times and even tried to on one occasion that I overdid it by accident. I didn't feel the restriction til it was too late. I've since learned to slow down when I eat so I have time for my body to signal to me. But the point is, I used to be able to puke almost on command. Not so much anymore. Its not really worth going out to eat at a sit down restaurant. I cant eat like the rest of the folks. While that is a exhilarating feeling, I found myself sulking because I couldn't eat my favorite meal at Chuy's. I had to laugh at myself like really, Tracy? You have wanted to be thinner for years and now that you have the chance you are crying about a chimichanga? I still have to silence my inner fat kid on the daily. I'm hoping that becomes less and less. I didn't realize just how addicted i was to food and food routines. I'm slowly re-learning how to have fun without food or booze and how to incorporate exercise into daily life again.
  10. I was just wondering how many people have changed their mind during the process. I am thinking of the sleeve but keep going back and forth. My insurance has a 3 month wait so I have time to do more research. I have lost weight on and off for over 20 years. I am 36 now. I know how to loose weight but I never keep it off. I know my eating habits are terrible lately and part of me says if I just change this I can do it on my own.... but then I remember all the times I have done that.. I see a lot of people saying the only regret was not doing it sooner. My plan right now is to give it my all during the 3 months, I mean what can I loose except weight? If I stll have trouble keep going on for surgery. I wondered if anyone had lost weight during their wait for surgery and changed their mind. Thanks

  12. HEllo everone!!! 2day is my 3rd day home! I have been well. I am still on my Clear liquids. My hubby and family/friends that come and visit have been very supportive. I am able to have homemade broth, sugar free jell-0, gatorade, and apple juice. My bowels started returning When Igot home Saturday. As expected, they were loose and dark. I swear I spent more time in the bathrooom that night! I got a call from the nurses to ask how things are going. It was good to know they were concerned and helpful. I mentioned the whole loose stools and they asked what I was drinking. after I explained I felt it was the apple juice, they told me I might have been experiencing my first "dumping syndrome" even though my apple juice is 100% fruit juice it still contains high natural sugars. I was told to try and dilute it 50/50 with Water. SO far this has helped. Pain management is going well I walk at least 5 min 3 times a day. Somedays I feel a litte more pain and other days I feel good. I have my post op tomorrow, I am anxious to know if and what I have lost since surgery and what amount was water wieght. I will then be able to move up to the full liquids. I will be able to have my yogurt again! Cream of wheat, shakes! I will do this for 3 days. Then By friday I should be able to start on my pureed! I cant wait, I have so many recipes i mind I have found on various bariatric sites! I know the food might not look so pleasant but At least it would have the taste of real foods again:) I still cant believe my waiting and surgery are now over! Let the weight lost begin DOes anyone know where I can make a weight lost tracker?????? THanks!!!!!

    Help Not Loosing Anymore

Don't feel bad. I am in the same boat. I haven't seen the scale go down in seven days. Yes, it's frustrating, but as long as you're doing what you're supposed to, then I would say just keep doing it. I have read on here that there are people who don't loose anything for awhile and then one day they wake up and BAM...they lost 10-15lbs. Everyone's body is different. Also, my husband and I were talking and I am sure our bodied feel as thought we are starving them. When you go to over 2000 calories a day to 400-600 a day I am sure our bodies think we're starving and begin holding on to the food. This will change over time. Keep you head up. I now it's hard but trust that in time the scale will move again and before long you will be at your goal weight. Best of luck to you.

    My first NSV

Just yesterday I was talking about the loose ring issue with a friend. I have dropped about 22lbs pre op and my rings have gone from very snug to pretty loose. I can only imagine how big they will be on my fingers once I start dropping serious lbs. So...I will just switch fingers until they no longer fit any of them. Then I will take and have sized once I am at a pretty steady weight. Good thing is I have rings from before I got so large that I will be able to wear in the mean time!!! LOL

    How do I know

Perfect, PERFECT! You are doing it perfectly! If you are relying on restriction then you are using the band as a crutch and not a tool. The goal is to eat until you are satisified and still loose weight! The point of the band is not to "be restricted" the point of the band is to BE SATISFIED. I think that if we are constantly and consistantly going to the Golf Ball pain stage then we are doing something wrong. Pain is a bad thing. Okay, it's a good thing too, becuase the purpose of pain is to let us know we've GONE TOO FAR. Congrats for figuring out what I have not yet learned!

    Easy to take vitamins

I bought a bariatric liquid Vitamin at GNC. Had a real strong vitamin taste and smell.....don't get it on your skin or clothes....it won't come off. I saw this earlier on another post....you might want to check it out... http://www.procarenow.com/Bariatric-Complete-Chewable-MultiVitamin-Once-Per-Day--Formulated-for-Roux-en-Y-Vertical-Sleeve-Duodenal-Switch-30-Day-Supply_p_10002.html
  18. Daisychains FYI. Proving you can loose wt can cause your insurance to deny you. The dr has write that you have failed all other attempts to lose wt. the time to prove your dr wrong is after you get the band. Remember some people have been denied because they were loosening good without the band. I went up and down during the the 6 month dr supervised time only loosing 10 lbs showing I was motivated but still needed help. they set you up you need to fail so you can get the band

Strength training to help minimize loose skin. Work major (largest) muscle groups. Don't waste time on teensy muscles. Cardio for overall endurance.

    Anyone else cold?

Me too, I've felt the cold more intensely since losing weight. The first areas I lost fat in were my arms and legs. Now the cold feels like it just cuts right through the skin on my arms. I have to wear long johns when the temp drops down into the 50's. Pre-surgery, my problem was staying cool enough, now it's almost the opposite. The upside is, I'm going to have lower utility bills since I won't need the AC as much to survive the Texas summer!
  24. Loose skin will be loose skin. The key is exercise and weight training to go along with the weight loss.Thats true. But slower weight loss doesn't hurt the skin situation. It was just a contributing factor in my decision. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App
