You should focus more on the protein, for the liquid phase you can use Isopure drinks at GNC, try to find them on sale, they can be expensive. And for the mushy phase, I was instructed you can take pretty much anything and put it in a processor, so you can do tuna salad, chicken salad, and shrimp salad. The chicken salad was my favorite personally. They should give you some guidelines to follow to know what to eat. The baby food may be okay here and there, but good luck with it, I tried some myself and it was horrible . I gave it away to a lady at work with a baby because I just could not do it.

Baby Food After Surgery?
wildrose1966 replied to Pebbagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not a baby, you don't need baby food. (I stole this from someone on here) Liquid (full liquid) drink smoothies w protein, protein shakes, greek yogurt, pudding, jello, soup (add blended cottage cheese for more protein in your soup)............ Mushy, get out your blender and throw in some chicken w a bit of low fat gravy, tuna salad........ it is mushy, but tastes like chicken/tuna and a tonne of protein, if you want fruit, throw it in the blender, same with veggies. You don't need baby food and besides carbs, there is nothing good in it for you. -
Baby Food After Surgery?
Jean McMillan replied to Pebbagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to ask your dietitian about that. Mine says baby food is OK in the puree/mushy phase, but you're going to have to find a way to get some protein in, and I doubt that any fruit or veggy baby food product will have enough protein to help you heal and meet your nutritional needs. As for a long term food choice, absolutely not. Pureed food is OK when you're healing post-op, but for the rest of your life, you'll need to emphasize solid food, because that's what gives you the early and prolonged satiety you'll need to lose weight and maintain your weight. -
6 months since surgery
CarolinaGurl replied to mrs sandy r's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats!! You look amazing! I was sleeved exactly a month after you on 10/26. My starting weight was 206 and I am at 151 now. I haven't lost hardly anything the past couple months :-(. My personal goal is 120. Your weight loss has been very successful. Do you mind sharing what your specific plan was/is as far as intake (carbs, calories, protein) and exercise? How did u break a stall if/when u encountered one? -
Hi all. I'm entering my 6th day of my pre op diet. I was doing great. All of a sudden today, I started getting severe diarrhea. UGH!! I have absolutely no appetite now and am forcing myself to meet my diet. I'm in misery from my esophagus to my rectum. I'm on 2 slim fast shakes , 2 premiere Protein shakes, and 3 ounces of chicken turkey or fish. Did anyone out there have this problem or possible explanations for this. I'm contacting my NUT in the morning to get her take on this. Thanks all for your great posts!

Hey everyone. I had my gastric sleeve appt with my surgeon today and was under the impression that I could do payment plans since my insurance will not under any circumstances cover the surgery. So now I'm forced to do self pay. I have no idea where I'm gonna get $15,000. I can't even get a loan because I'm still working on my credit. My only option was to ask my grandparents because they have a lot of money and I'm praying my grandpa says yes. My grandma said she would in a heartbeat but she needs his blessing.... I'm just feeling really down. My parents can't help me because they are financially struggling as well. And I'm going to have to get a second job to pay back my grandparents if they say yes. My parents seem to think I can lose it without surgery but I have struggled with my weight since I was a kid. And no matter how much I workout or how much I diet, nothing sticks. I KNOW this will work for me. I just need some positive vibes or advice. Feeling really depressed today. I thought my appt would go better than it did. The surgeon was great, but obviously they can't move forward until I have the money. But he did say that once I pay, I only have to see their nutritionist one time, included in the price of surgery, and I could have my surgery in up to a week from now.

Try the Pouch Reset/Test. You have to go back to basics. Protein and Water - track everything. No pasta, bread or rice. Good luck - you can get back on track!

So, this month I will be at 2.5 years post-op. I had a regular appointment with my PCP and since I've felt fatigued lately I thought my Iron or B12 values may be low, so we ran a full CBC, B12, Nutrition Panel and Thyroid panel. Except for my TSH being a little higher than it was last time, but still well within the normal range, every single other value is almost exactly at the middle of the normal range. I am happy about this because, well, I've been quantitatively proven to be healthy, but also because I don't follow the diet plan of the sleeve at all, so I am happy that my body seems to compensate well for not always getting what it is in theory supposed to be getting. I go months of forgetting to take my B12 and iron, I never get the Protein I'm supposed to have everyday, and I eat a lot of crackers, minimal vegetables, no fruit, and pretty much only chicken from Chik Fil A in the form of grilled nuggets. So, thankfully, my values last year were also pretty much the same as this year, so I have had consistently good indicators that at least this far out from surgery for someone who doesn't really adhere to the nutritional suggestions, my 20% of a stomach has not contributed to harming my health. If anything, given that I started at 237, I hit goal of 129 last April, and in 15 days I will have maintained at goal, the sleeve has substantially improved upon my health, especially when my blood work values are also considered.

mixed some solids in with the protein and so i was in a lot of discomfort taking that first step this 5th day after surgery. Not a good afternoon, but one last dose of meds saved for just this day . I can do this can't wait for the scale reading on Wednesday. Will post the change!

Protein powder
BypassKrista replied to jenn2752781's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm an organic girl and i try not to take things with aspartame or other harmful chemicals in it. I would strongly suggest raw protein unflavored for weight loss . It has 45 grams of protein in one scoup. Plus after sugery, the major key to your weight loss is protein, vitamins , and water for the first two weeks so why not have the best? Comes with a green top and can be found at vitamin shop or whole foods. -

Week 3 a bust? What the heck is going on?
pinkie1 replied to nuzzlebear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose anything for two weeks post up, I was doing everything right and could not figure it out. Then I had a thought when I first got home I was on a clear broth diet and I lost weight the day I went on shakes and pureed diet I stalled. so I thought I will do the broth thing and you know what, in 5 days I lost 11 pounds. As I am a diabetic, all carbs and little sugar I was putting in my mouth with the shakes was putting my weight loss in jeopardy. so I am sticking to broth and seafood high in Protein and I feel great. -
Am I losing enough?
JanetteH replied to sneakerfr3ak's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
29 lbs in 5 weeks is amazing!! - that's about 6 lbs a week - when did you ever lose weight that quickly before? I'm only averaging around 4 lbs a week and I'm delighted with that. Think positive - this surgery is a tool, not a magic bullet. Depending on your starting weight and goals, it may take close to a year to lose all the weight. Don't get down on yourself - counting calories is not my main goal anymore. If I eat the correct quantity (no more than 1 cup at my stage) of the right foods (protein, fruits and veggies), then the calories take care of themselves. I use a tracking app called MyFitnessPal which I love. You might want to start using that - it has an amazing data base of lots of foods so it can tell you how much protein, fat, carbs etc you've consumed. What phase are you in? (pureed food, soft foods?) I also got tired of the Protein Shakes but found I love scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and fish (all mashed in the puree phase). Talk to your nutritionist about ideas and recipes etc Good luck! -
Protein and calorie deficits after surgery

Protein and calorie deficits after surgery
yarnismyantidrug replied to yarnismyantidrug's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks, guys. I did go to a center of excellence. I'm not sure what the difference is between my surgeon and the asmbs suggestions, but I have upped my Protein and feel a ton better. I track my food every day and when I start getting more nutrients from food, I'll start tapering the supplements. I think listening to my body is the right choice, here. -
The Bariatric store
Daisee68 replied to 1cutiejulie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@1cutiejulie - if you're referring to the BariatricPal Store, I have bought from them twice. I like quite a few of their products (especially the Protein Hot chocolate Amaretto flavor). Fast shipping. Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App -
I just went to the doctor on Thursday and he told me I should start trying out some shakes to see which I like best. What has worked best for you? I'm looking at 6 months until my surgery but hopefully I can get it sooner!!!

I have to agree with Irene and StLouisGal. If that is all you are getting in, that isn't nearly enough. How are you getting in all of your protein? Maybe if you just can't get in more food you could add some protein shakes for more calories and protein. I won't lose if I go under about 700-800 calories.

to ever get this far, and then have second thoughts. I've done my seminar, first doc's visit, seen the nutruitionist (love the Protein shakes). My doc said I had to lose 10 percent of my body weight, which for me is 33 pounds. By the end of the first 3 1/2 weeks, I've lost 21 pounds. I've never been on a high protein diet before, and I seem to be thriving on it. I'm not hungry, and, so far, no uncontrollable cravings. I'm so confused. I had myself prepared and ready to have this surgery, and now I find myself wanting to back out and keep on dieting. I didn't know that he would put me on a diet like this. I only knew about the very strict diet I would be on, a couple of weeks before the surgery. The office will be getting me qualified with my insurance after I go in, in another month. I only need to lose 9 more pounds. I don't have much time to change my mind if I really don't want to do this. Any thoughts or opinion--no matter what they are--would be appreciated.

Now I've been told that so long as we maintain our protein intake we shouldn't lose muscle mass. This is rather puzzling to me as I am currently at 45% bodyfat. All told this means I have approximately 240lb of lean body mass. I know this includes bones, organs and muscle tissue. This makes sense to me as it does take some heft to haul 400+lb around. What I am trying to wrap my mind around is losing the fat and sitting there with 240lb of lbm and say 40lb of bodyfat. I'd be healthy but I never imagined being 280lb and ok. I'm just gonna be a big guy I guess. No wonder my surgeon said 210lb is not in my cards.... Does any of this make sense to anyone? I wanted to be slim.. Source: Lean Body Mass

So I'm feeling super great and have finally got into the workout mode, had my surgery July 18. Than......I get my six month test results back (had them done a little late) my cholesterol is super high. I had an appointment with my primary doctor who tested me on August 20 th and than last week. All cholesterol good and bad numbers were bad, no problem in August. I told him that I'm eating mostly Protein to lose weight. Of course he said that is the problem and put me on meds. Does anyone else have high cholesterol since surgery? Never had this problem when I was fat, Lol. Now go figure with 101 lbs down since surgery! Help any suggestions?

I can't offer much, I'm only 10 days post op but originally that is what I wanted. After research I decided against the band due to complications, always getting fills, and having a foreign object. The first doctor I went to was opposite as yours. I wanted sleeve by that point he suggested band but was willing, I found a new surgeon as the only reason was band was that surgeon's specialty. I researched alot on here and after my initial thoughts band was never an option. Keep reading and be sure to ask the people who had band to sleeve revision Also to had there are success stories with the band for me though sleeve was the better option.

Post Great Grains Protein Blend Cinnamon/Hazelnut 8grams protein per serving 230 calories for a full cup but I can only eat half a cup. Special K Protein 120 calories for 3/4 cup and 10 grams of protein. Again I can only eat half a cup. They both taste really good too.
