  1. I had surgery on 2/15/23 and I'm in the liquids phase. These yogurts are helping me with my protein goal along with Fairlife Elite shakes (42g protein). The yogurt flavors I've seen at Target and Stop & Shop include blueberry, strawberry, key lime and coconut. They're about $1.70 ea i think.

    Confused with diet plan

I saw this after a search for "confused about meal planning". I started off strong and enjoyed the self-care and empowerment of meal planning, but... my husband does most of the grocery shopping and cooking for the family (don't ask he just prefers it. i pick my battles. ) And I was doing making grocery lists informed by my meal planning and trying to make the meals work for the family and my FINICKY six-year-old. It was really ambitious and confusing. So then I just ate whatever my husband cooked. Then the plateau struck after losing 30lbs in a 1.5 months. I just hit 3 months and have been nibbling red meats including pork for half that time- and i don't really like the taste of meat since the surgery. (It's hard to evolve when your support system isn't) Back to empowerment--I've recently started eating "Real Good" frozen meals. They break down to about 3 portions a meal for me. Nutrition = as high as Protein 40g with Carbs 4g (6 net). They're really heavy though and I've actually just had a hard time eating since surgery. I'm also, turning to popsicles and protein bars.

    Timing, meals, postop

I'm constantly sipping something all day long to meet my goals. By the time I can finish a protein shake, then have some water, it's now time for a snack, so I'll have a bit of yogurt, more water, now it's lunch time so I warm up some soup and so on throught the day. I'm worried about developing a bad habit of constantly "eating/swollowing" something. I'm able to meet my protein/water goals barely by working at it all day.

The Vanilla Oikos Greek yogurt is amazing with 2 tbsp of PB2 powder. It tastes like peanut butter fluff! Those help keep me full when I'm tired of protein shakes! Congrats ont he 18 lbs down so far!
  5. Hi Krasavitza, Im on day 13 of 14 on a liquid diet. I went with the milk and yogurt diet. I had also the option of 2 shakes and 300cal meal with extra veg. But the first was easier to go with. Day 3 is hardest, but after that it gets so much easier. Spoke to my bariatric nurse on friday and she said as Id lost 20lb in 10 days to swap out some of my yogurts and add a 300cal dinner. So if after a week you are still struggling speak to your nurse to see what options you have or swap outs you can do. Good luck, you’ve got this [emoji1303] Sent from my SM-A528B using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. What I learned, is it wasn't about how much I was eating, but what and when I was eating. I think I eat more often now than I ever did before. I used to eat late at night when I finally had free time, and now I eat through the day, like a normal person. I ate very little protein before, which was a big problem. You'll see.

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hope everyone is doing well. I’m officially 3 months and almost a week out of surgery and 60 pound down since first thinking about WLS and that puts me at 50% weight loss from what I put as my goal weight. Had my 3month appointment last week. We went over calorie goals, macro distribution, any issues we are having and learning curves. We went over goal weight and the RN said that most of the patients say they have 20-30lbs to go on the 6-month appointment and during that appointment is when we go over the goal weight we should be aiming for and what we need to change to reach that. I should be able to get back on track with protein, fluids and exercise this week. I’m going to start with having protein shakes again at least daily (some days I was trying to meet it only with food) and carrying my 48oz water bottle with me every where and go back to weighing myself weekly. Wishing everyone good and positive energy in your journey!

  9. Hey guys, I am thinking about having an endoscopic gastric bypass revision. Has anyone completed this? Wondering about weight loss and if there was any complications? Would you recommend for others? I want a revision but the down time for surgical is tricky, so hoping this could be a good options.

    Timing, meals, postop

My progress has been almost entirely built on routine; if I'm going to change my life I have to build a life that can be successful. I told my husband once I know Future Me is lazy; Current Me has to prepare for that so Future Me has no excuses. So for instance, if I've already got veggies and things cut up for salads or dipping, Lazy Me isn't going to go for the less-healthy option that needs prep work!

I had surgery 2 days before you. nothing (literally, lol) makes me sick. I take the barimelts. Theyre... okay. initial taste is fine but have a terrible aftertaste/burp. lol im on all solid foods (soft/chewed really well). about the only thing i havent tried yet are raw veg/salad. I figure ill give that a bit longer just because I know its a bit harder to digest. I am getting all of my protein from food at this point, 60 grams and am eating around 7/800 calories a day. losing around 3 pounds a week (lower BMI), which I am good with. Slower rate of loss means more muscle kept and less loose skin

My surgery was 2/13/23 and I still can’t meet my liquid and protein goals. I feel hungry but I can’t drink enough, is that normal?
  13. Have you discussed your desire to lose weight & your interest in bariatric surgery with your endocrinologist? Are they aware of how little you eat now which must be a concern with your malabsorption issues. Unfortunately, the surgery won’t stop the weight gain side effect of the meds you have to take. Medications are one of the causes behind weight regain after surgery. Are there alternative meds you could take that don’t cause an increase of appetite/weight gain? Malabsorption issues are a possible side effect of weight loss surgery which would only add to your existing situation. Being aware of your nutrient intake & meeting protein goals is a lifelong consideration for everyone after weight loss surgery. Many will always need to take vitamins to supplement their intake via food. Just some things to consider.

    Binge Eating Before Surgery

What do you mean by you didn’t do so great? You ate foods you shouldn’t have or you didn’t drink enough water/get enough protein? I’m on day 3 and I just couldn’t drink 4 shakes today and I barely got enough water. On top of that I had 2 spoonfuls of hummus which obviously isn’t allowed and I’m stressing now over all this. I don’t even know if I have a fatty liver. I’m 5 foot 8 258 lbs, bmi 39 and a size 16

Surgery 2/10. First 24 hours was pretty rough with the gas but lots of laps in the hospital helped. During the two week postop diet, I was struggling with fluids and protein because I was just so over it. I’m not stressing about it. I just do what I can. I’m now 16 days postop and it’s easier to get my fluids in but I’m still so sick of protein shakes. I found Oikos Greek yogurt with 15 grams of protein. The vanilla flavor is amazing…. Yum! I’m on puréed diet for the past three days, threw up twice just eating too fast because I was starving. But now I have adjusted to eating more slowly so I don’t throw up. The only issue I have is the bariatric vitamins. I’ve been taking the chewable ones and they are absolutely awful and they make me vomit. I’ve taken them on a full stomach too, and they still make me sick. I’m trying to find a good vitamin to take that doesn’t upset my stomach. I just ordered the Barimelts which I know are not recommended by my doctor, but they are known to be gentler on the stomach, so something is better than nothing. I have the calcium chews and those are fine. Does anyone have a good vitamin that they like it doesn’t make them sick? Also, I’m down 18 pounds and I’m fine with that as I am a lower BMI.
  16. Thanks everyone! I really can't wait until pureed foods. I definitely know things would be easier. I have things planned already and I just can't wait. I didn't have problems with the protein shakes before surgery either, but they're just tasting a lot more sweeter now 😳 I'm gonna have a chocolate on tomorrow. Maybe I need a different flavor instead of caramel and creamy cinnamon. I could also make a protein smoothie too. Which that sounds really good. My mom made homemade macaroni soup a few days ago, it was great and we had left overs tonight and it was even better. Homemade soups are better. Glad to know that each day gets better! Do you guys know if applesauce is considered something allowed on the full liquid diet? I didn't see anything in my directions.

    7 Months Out, Need Motivation

If you know the plan and can't stick to it just a few months after taking the big big step to have surgery then I would seriously advocate finding a therapist who specialises in bariatric surgery patients. I say this only with support and sympathy - I do not do 'holier than thou' ever. So many people have travelled the same road. It is SO SO hard not to eat when our hunger comes back. What we need to ensure is that the prospect of eating healthy food is preferable to the option to eat crap. If you can re-frame your relationship with food now you still have plenty of time to make the most of your chance. I do wish you the very best of luck.

    October 2022 surgery support

Hey y'all! Glad to see some updates around here. It's been 4 months and some change, and I've lost 70 lbs since surgery! Almost 125 since my highest weight. I feel better than I have in years. I started off as a 5XL and now can wear 3XL and even some 2XL! Went from a 30 in jeans to 24 (which are loose on me, so I think I may be 22 or lower now - I still need to update wardrobe) I had a stall in mid-December and just recently had another that lasted 10 days where my weight only went up and down or stayed the same! Finally started trending downwards again a few days ago. My pouch tolerates everything I've given it. No problems there. I eat whatever I want at this point but still do 1 protein shake/day. I'm hovering around 800-1000 calories per day. Pros: I used to get horrible pains in my lower back and hips and now I have a ton of stamina and can actually walk around a grocery store to go shopping! Sex is a lot more fun! ☺️😆 I can feel my bones. Especially when I sleep on my side at night, my kneecaps actually touch each other (can also be a con lol) I can cross my legs! I can sit on the floor and not feel like I'm going to fall over backwards! It's fun to jiggle parts of my body 🤣 Physical hunger still gone and full cues still intact. I know to stop when the hiccups start. Food bills are so much cheaper!!! I'm content with a happy meal. No heartburn (yet)! Cons: My mood is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Hormones from fat loss make me up and down all the time. I never know what kind of day it's going to be when I wake up. I also have a mood disorder to begin with, so that doesn't help either. Loose skin everywhere!! If I'm too "active" it will make a clapping noise. Like it's cheering me on. 😂 I'm a bit self-conscious about the skin under my neck The rest of it I can deal with, lol. My boobs and butt are leaving. Mental hunger is rude! I have to carefully watch myself from grazing. Some days are harder than others. I think my food addiction has turned into a shopping one. I'm still lazy and don't really work out. I do a lot more than I used to though, so it balances out I think. 😅 Food isn't fun anymore. But that's also a good thing... I can say it has been way easier than I expected it to be though. I thought I'd be more upset about it. Here's some before/after pics! They're from last month, but I don't think I've lost much more 10 lbs since then anyway due to the stall I had. This one was right before the liquid diet and the after is the end of January, so about 75 lbs difference. This was on my way to my first appointment in early 2022 and then last month. I've lost 105 lbs between those 2. This is a fun graph of my weight loss since the beginning of the liquid diet. I weigh myself everyday using this app (Libra) so I can see the trends. Then I only record my actual weight every week in MyFitnessPal. It's worked well for me so far. My current goal is to hit 100 lbs lost before my 6-month surgiversary! 30 lbs to go!
  19. The dietitian shared that I could mix my protein drink as a creamer for decaf coffee in the morning and mix to thin out my Greek yogurt. This helped me. I was okay with the shakes occasionally before having the surgery. Now I am tired of them. They do offer the unflavored protein powder to mix in soups. It'll be better once you move into the pureed stage. You're half way there!

    February 2023 surgery dates!

I am 13 days post op and I can tell you it does get easier! I didn't make my fluids or protein goals at all until about 4 days ago and I've been able to make both (barely!) If i concentrate on it. This is also with me going back to work last week as well so hang in there!
  21. I ❤️ home made soup so I stockpiled a bunch before my surgery in the freezer. All some variation of a roasted vegetable, bone broth, 1 can of coconut milk and seasoning. I’ve got carrot ginger, sweet potato, butternut, cauliflower, and white bean with artichoke and spinach. I love them all regularly, just blended them more and a little more watery consistency. Today is the first day I can have them and I’m really excited. I may not feel the same way after a month 🤣. A little harder to calculate the protein content. I plan to make a roasted red pepper, black bean, and celery bisque when I’m feeling a little better.

    Nausea

I’m exactly 1 month Post Op! Regular water makes me nauseous, the thought of drinking a protein shake makes me nauseous. Sugar free popsicles are the only things the quench my thirst. Now those make me nauseous as well! I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday. I don’t know what to do!
  23. I'm getting sick of the protein shakes, they're definitely too sweet 😭 I could get unflavored protein powder to put in broths, but im not sure yet. Ahh I'm craving cheese
  24. I'm 5 days post op now and I also felt really weak and light headed. I think cause I slept in too long. I felt much better after taking some deep breaths. It's really hard to get all of my requirements in and I'm kind of worried about what would happen if I can't get it figured out. I need at least 64 ounces of fluids, 60 to 80 grams of protein and up to 1200 calories. Ahhh! I have bariatric fusion complete chewable vitamins and for bypass I need to get 4 or those in a day. I only got one today (I know if I got up earlier I'd have met that goal). Tomorrow is a new day and my son goes back to school so I'll be getting up earlier and hopefully I'll be able to get everything in. I'm gonna try to track things again. How does everyone get things in for the day? It seems hard.
  25. Surgery was 2/23, and I was feeling pretty good and getting my specialty water in, even 4 oz each day of home made bone broth. I somehow missed the clear protein options however and today I’ve been super weak and light headed. Managed 3 oz of yogurt and protein drink with 42 grams. Finally got in a shower and now I’m exhausted. It’s a beautiful day today and I was hoping to take a little walk, but I’m not going to get far at all! How is everyone else the first week post op?
