1. BOY OH BOY!!! I am one happy girl!!! Did you know that Chobani tastes league's different than ANY other brand of Greek yogurt??? I don't hate greek yogurt anymore!!! This is great news considering I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find high Protein food (low cal of course) that didn't make me want to gag. Also.... I am almost done with my 2 week food journal and I am all so excited. I have lost 8 pounds since starting to food journal again and I haven't even started to exercise much yet. Wow I can't wait until the surgery. I am completely ready to make this a permanant life style!!! The only problem is that I have had a head ache for TWO weeks now. It is usually a dull head ache starting in my neck or right behind my right eye. Anyone have any clues as to what could be causing this? At first I thought it was dehydration but now I have no idea. I wasn't a huge caffeine drinker before but I had a Diet coke a day (sometimes 2). COuld it be a caffeine headache??? Any ideas, please let me know!!! Kim
2.

Have you found out yet? I am trying to keep busy and not think about it, but it would be nice if I could find out this week!
3. Hi guys and gals, I'm a newbie and went to my first seminar 2 weeks ago. I was told I have to do the 6 month dr supervised diet/weigh in for bc/bs of AL. How long after your last weigh in does it take to get the approval letter? Thanks to all who respond!

You could ask you doc about it. Just remember that your hormones are wacky with all the changes in your body, so your cycle is bound to change. If you're anemic, find out from you doc when you can start iron supplements. I was told week five, but every doc is different. The iron will make you feel much better!

I feel for you!! This happened to me 2 weeks out and I thought I might lose my mind for how awful I felt. a heating pad and sleep were my best friends and full sugar popsicles. You should call you doc about what to do for pain though. GOOD LUCK! ((((((hugs))))))

7. Ok guys i have been not eating breakfast as i am not a typical breakfast eater so i get up at 6am and about 10 i start getting hungry which i was an early luncher at 11am so i have been doing the meal replacement bars/ shakes from 9:30 to 10 am this holds me over until i get home at 6:30pm then i am eating a regular meal. This keeps me under the calorie intake for the day or right where i need to be if i meet it. Rarely over it . But my question is if i make myself do one for breakfast and lunch then eat supper or if i eat a normal lunch and then do the meal replacement for dinner will any of these combinations make me lose weight quicker i am in my 5th month of the dr supervised weightloss diet. So Oct 10th will be my 6th visit for that so we will start with the appts for the pysh eval and the nutritionist and the surgery consult. I know they are going to require me to do the only liquid diet for the two week prior to surgery so i am trying to get used to the protein shakes. Any tips on how to optimize the effectiveness of using these?
8. Hello everyone. My surgery date is October 31st which is Halloween, anyways I have three girls ages 6, 5, 1. Last night my oldest kids were saying how excited they were to dress up for Halloween and asked what I wanted to be on that day. Well I told them mommy won't be able to go because she has to get her tummy fixed at the hospital. They hugged me and said it's not going to be the same without me and to wait until after Halloween They then asked me what's wrong with my tummy and started to cry so I had to explain that I'm doing it so I can be the best mommy for them and be healthy so I can run around and play with them without getting tired really fast. My 5 year old then said "are they going to make you fly and jump really high too and she was a tad bit disappointed when I told her no. I feel really bad for missing out.

feeling the blues

I was just thinking this same thing driving home from the mall. I telecommute so I don't usually have to worry about work clothes, but I have a conference coming up in a week. I had to go shopping and I just wanted to cry. So tired of buying fat clothes. I wish this surgery was over yesterday. I have my consultation at the end of the month, but will have to wait until January for various reasons. I am just ready to start my new life. I have been researching and thinking for almost a year too, so I hear ya!
10. So I finally got a date the last time I met with my surgeon - October 17th. (SO CLOSE!) He asked me to lose 10 pounds before the next time we met, and to meet with the psychiatrist again for the final clearance. The first time the psych wanted me to get stable on my antidepressant before clearing me. So I lost the 10 pounds and met with the psych. All good, right? Well, the psych told me he needed to get in touch with MY psychiatrist and therapist first, and that it should only take a few days. It has literally been a MONTH since then and he hasn't managed to get in touch with the psych yet (he did call the therapist.) My psych claims they've been playing "phone tag" but I suspect that neither of them have really put in the effort. I mean, how hard is it, really? A 3-minute phone conversation? So either way tomorrow I'm starting the liquid fast, even though this might have to be postponed. They can't send everything into insurance without the clearance, so I still might get bad news. Ugh! When I told the surgeon about this last Friday, to his credit he was pissed too and told me to call him if I don't hear anything from the coordinator or psych by tomorrow. I'm so stressed and annoyed about this. It wouldn't be the end of the world to postpone a month or a couple of weeks, but it seems like such a lame reason. I've gone through so much with the tests and clearances and now this? Anyway, wish me luck! I feel pretty good about the liquid fast, at least, and have stocked up on lots of Protein Powder and Crystal Lite the list the nutritionist gave me also included Diet Snapple, strangely enough, so I got a case of that, too. Onward!

I totally freaked out!

Hi AET, I did the same thing. I went in May to see my surgeon. Everything was in place for me to get my surgery. I just couldn't get my head around all the voice in my head telling me I was smart enough to lose weight on my own and didn't need to go to such extreme measures. I cancelled everything and gave myself until my surgery date to start losing on my own, I had big plans, I really did! I don't even have to tell you the outcome. Three months later and not one pound shed, not one trip to the gym. Now, we are all concerned about having surgery. It's not something to take lightly. The question is: Do you trust your doctor? If not, then find a new one. If you do, then talk to him or his staff about your fears. You aren't the only one having them. Secondly, this proceedure is only a tool. All the other times we have had great plans to lose weight, only to fail because of hunger, or emotional eating, or whatever reason, THIS time we will have a physical barrier to keep us from overeating. We will lose weight. We will have time to adjust our behaviors while we are losing weight. This is a tool to get us over the big hump so that we have the energy to exercise. Here is the truth: someone is going to judge you harshly for having the surgery. It's probably the same person that judges you harshly for being obese. You will not win the approval war, so call a truce on pleasing other people and do this wonderful thing for yourself. Yep you will have scars. Women that have laproscopic surgeries for endometriosos or tubal ligations have them too. I have so many stretch marks on my stomach I dare anyone to find the scars from my sleeve! LOL You will eat again. If what I read is true, you will struggle to eat enough. Will you be able to go to McDonald's and eat a supersized jumbo whatever and down an extra-large soda? I sure hope not. Isn't that the road that got us to this place? The only question you really need to ask yourself, IMHO, is this: Do you desire the chance to make behavioral changes to you life style that will allow you to live a healthier life? If so, the sleeve will give you the tool to make those changes a reality when all else has failed. I have doubts. I have fears. But I have tried to lose weight for decades using every diet and exercise gizmo that comes along. Guess what? I'm still fat. It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. I'm tired of my crazy, obese life. I'm choosing sanity. I hope you do too.

I totally freaked out!

I had lots of doubts and fears, even after the day of my surgery. I hadn't ever had surgery before and the idea scared me half to death. I remember when I woke up after the surgery, in my groggy state, I still thought I could back out. I was also nervous about scars until someone showed me theirs and they were really minimal. I remember telling my brother that I would have five little scars and him telling me that the scars wouldn't matter because I was going to feel so much better (and he was totally right). You will be able to eat. The first few weeks were a bummer, but eventually you can start to eat like a normal person again, but you have to make the choice to eat like a normal person and not an obese person. That is the part that is more challenging. If you aren't ready, don't do it, but if you just have cold feet, don't let it stop you. Everybody has fears and this is a drastic step to take. It isn't a decision to take lightly. Good luck to you. I have every faith that you will make the right decision for you!
13. Rain research says it takes 7 weeks to form new habits. You can make it! 7 weeks to a better life, a better you! Get a calendar count down. Preop- postop- recovery- new you! 7 weeks away. Be encouraged

i worried about the same thing, but ended up losing 6 lbs during the 1 week preop liquid diet...you will be fine.
15. My surgery is in 2 weeks and I'm just curious about how much weight everyone lost their first week post op! I know everyone is different but I'm just trying to get an average!

Well, Change, I just have to say that VSG saved my life. I am a whole different person now than I was on August 30, 2011. I've lost over 100 pounds and I'm three days away from 9 months out. Before surgery, I could barely walk from my car to my front door and now I'm a gym rat! With a lower BMI, your results will be even more dramatic, not to mention that you'll avoid a slew of health problems caused by obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. It's always better to prevent future problems rather than treat them after they show up! Good luck! There's a search bar at the top right of the page. Use it freely. We discuss EVERYTHING here related to weight loss and quite a bit that isn't WLS related.

Ayay, This is NOT a diet. This is a lifestyle change. I don't know how far post-op you are, but I'm guessing you're in the 3-5 weeks category. If so, search here for the 3 week stall. Almost everyone goes through that stall and finds that the scale is standing still for a bit. Take your measurements now, so you have something to refer to later, pay attention to how your clothes are fitting as well. Are they looser? If you did take pre-op measurements, are you losing inches? I lost my first pants size during my 3 week stall. I put them on, zipped them up, and they fell to the ground! I'm not following any diet except: 70grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water per day. I don't track calories, carbs, or anything else. I have started adding in more "good" carbs because I've upped my exercise routine, but that's about the only time I worry about carbs. Stalls will happen, but they happen because your body needs the time to adjust to the changes. I shape-shifted in the last few months, losing a good bit of mass in my hips and thighs and developing muscle definition in my arms, tummy and thighs. In that same three months, I lost 10 pounds. Now my weight loss has started up again, but I imagine that I'll go through another shift in a month or so. The best advice I can offer you is this: Don't let the scale run your life. Weigh less often and concentrate on your protein and water goals. The weight will take care of itself. Add in some exercise, even if it's 5 minutes on the treadmill or exercise bike. Once it's part of your routine, you'll miss exercise when you don't do it. Good luck!
18. So today I picked up my support letter from my pcp! It's clear and straight to the point; She supports me, thinks that I am an excellent candidate and deemed it as a medical necessity! I had my psych evaluation last Friday she loved my positive vibes and wanted me to be a leader of a support group. LOL. Next week I meet with my nut for a final time! Then I'll meet with my sugeron to get a date. I am ready. I know I will have a love hate relationship with mu sleeve due to this whole lifestyle change. But I am ready to drop this weight. Get healthy! I have been researching WLS since 09 and the lord has finally blessed me with the chance to get it done. He (Lord) may not come when you want him but he is always on time. Amen! I pray that everyone aiming for a date this month next month or even this year gets approved and have a successful journey with their sleeve. Until next time. Xo
19. Hello everyone so today I had my psych and Nutritional evaluation and was told it was going to take two Weeks to get their reports.. Has anyone gotten it sooner? Then they would submit to the insurance company.. Now my question to the nurse was " will Medicare and medicad cover my sleeve surgery and she said "no not yet but there are talks going on" ok so I took and called medicare since its my primary and the operator stated "if the procedures that are on the list are not medically your match then the provider "surgeon" has to call and explain for approval.. Has anyone run into this cause I really am not medically compatible with any other wls other than the sleeve.. ?? Sent from my SPH-D710 using VST
20. Hi there and welcome to VST. You've found a wonderful place for support. I had surgery 8 weeks & 4 days ago and can't be happier. I started at 304 and am now down 46 pounds. Prior to surgery, my whole body hurt all the time and I had zero energy. I'm still way overweight but it is amazing what losing 46 pounds has done for me. I only have aches and pains occasionally and they aren't near as bad. My energy level and overall stamina is way up too. I think you've made a great decision to be sleeved and you will feel amazing once you heal from the surgery. I had lots of postop pain issues but others had no issues at all. It's hard to say what your experience will be. However, even with all the pain I would go through it again in a heartbeat! If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. Good luck to you in your journey!
21. Do you not have insurance because you can't get coverage? If so, I would encourage you to look into PCIP. It's the pre-existing health insurance that was put in place in 2010. I was without insurance for ten years since I work for a small company that didn't offer a plan. After a gallbladder attack, I tried to secure individual insurance but was denied because of my weight. You can get this insurance if you live in a participating state, have a pre-existing health condition or have been turned down for insurance and have been without coverage for at least six months. It's age rated. I'm 51 and pay $306 a month. You seem much younger so your premium will reflect that. The plan I chose has a $2,000 deductible and a $4,000 out of pocket maximum and yes, it covers the sleeve. I had my gallbladder removed in February so that and a couple of other procedures met my deductible. I have been able to get my septum corrected and am scheduled to be sleeved in three weeks, all at no additional cost. They do require a six month monitored diet and either a BMI of 40+ or 35 with two co-morbidities. Good luck!
22. I will be 3 weeks on mon. The 16th looking for a support group!!! I it would help me.
23. Hey all...my surgery is August 13th. It's possible I may need to fly out of state for a week-long business trip 2- 2 1/2 weeks post-op. The business trip doesn't involve any physical work or anything, but I'm nervous about leaving town so soon after surgery. I'm worried about what stage I'll be at in my diet (pureed food or mushies I'd imagine?) and how I'll work around that while out of town, and also about being uncomfortable on the flight. What do you guys think? I have no idea how I'll be feeling or the kind of energy I'll have at that stage. I have to make a decision soon so travel arrangements can be made. Do you think it's reasonable to make a trip like this so soon after surgery?

Business Trip 2 Weeks Post-Op

I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am in the same situation of needing to travel for work pretty soon after surgery. My surgeon said I should not get on a plane for 6 weeks if at all possible. Driving is ok but only if I stop every hour. You may want to ask your surgeon's office and see what they advise.
25. Hey everyone!so I start my pre-op liquid diet in 10 days and the closer and closer I get to the liquid diet the more scared I get about leaving behind a whole lifetime of food.i feel like I panicked the past week and tried to get in every last fast food restaurant I could think of because I have this fear that I'm going to miss it so much post op.ive been mentally preparing myself to let go of food since I started the journey of getting the sleeve, but the closer I get to the surgery date the more freaked out I get myself about not ever being able to have these foods again!i keep reminding myself to stay focused on the positives but and I am!but I was just wondering if anyone has felt the way I'm feeling lately!thanks for reading:)
