    Not feeling restricted

I was banded July 22. Today seen my surgeon for the 2 week check up. He said I'd gain few pounds before my first fill an that was ok. I get my fill in 3 weeks. Would had been 2 weeks but he is gonna be out of town. E told me it take a few fills to her where I need to be. He also has a band so that helps. He understands what we go threw.

Any time my weight changes upward on the scale less than 3 pounds I just tell myself "That is just Water weight" and go on. Salt, extra exercise, time of month, sickness, all cause water retention. If you are eating 1000 calories a day it is physically impossible to gain 2.8 pounds of fat in a week, you would have to eat 9800 calories more than you burned, and you only ate 7700 calories so its mathematically impossible. Dismiss it and go on. The good news is when I gain a couple pounds of water weight, when it went away it usually took a couple of pounds with it, kind of a cell flushing thing. I hope it works like that for you too.

SO...last week, I posted that I was down 20lbs since August 1st. I was SOOO excited! I had hit a small goal of mine...and was TOTALLY pumped. I also made it back to the gym for a Zumba class, totally kept up, and felt great afterwards. On Tuesday afternoon, I ended up with a wicked sore throat.....which stayed until Thursday morning....which turned into a chest cold. I've been coughing, coughing, and coughing some more....and definitely feeling generally awful. I didn't go back to the gym....and today was feeling a little bit under the weather, but was going to brave it anyway! The class ended up being cancelled...and I didn't have my ipod, so I didn't want to go on the machine (that is my idea of torture! 30 min on the elipical with nothing to entertain me! ugh!). Anyhow...I hopped on the scale and have somehow gained 2.8lbs this week. NOW...I know I was just banded on the 10th...and these are supposed to be healing weeks...but I'm eating average calorie intake about 1075/day (that was a 6 day average). I'm eating mainly Proteins...I'm getting around 74 grams of Protein daily. I'm not sure why I'm gaining?? Is this normal???? I feel like I'm failing...just like I've done over and over again in the past. Gosh, I was on such a mental high last week....It's SO amazing how I can go from one state to another in a matter of 7 days. I just felt like I was doing everything right! Any ideas??
  5. I was released for alcohol at 3ish months. Doc warned me it's wasted calories so just don't go overboard. I drank Riesling the first time, and it hit me kinda hard and fast, but wore off pretty fast as well. I drink socially now, and have a glass of wine once maybe twice a week. I've tried margarita, and they didn't settle well. But, mixed drinks, rum/coke, and various shots work just fine. My tolerance is like it was pre-op, it doesn't hit me hard and fast, and I can maintain a decent buzz. I don't drink a lot, but when I do, the big plus is that I rarely get a hangover anymore.

    Back Pain

I have read that back pain could be a sign of a leak. My question is - What type of pain. Both the left and right sides of my back have been aching for a few weeks, It feels as though it's a muscular issue & not actual internal pain. I had my friend try to rub on each side & it was too painful - She told me she had not even rubbed my back yet, only applied light pressure with her hands. I'm thinking it could possibly be the way I'm sleeping ? anyway, did any of you have this ? (It's def not my kidneys)
  7. Just last week I turned the as people would say the Big "50".... But I decided to call it FABIOUS "50" Because I'm not big anymore!!! Loving life

    I Hurt!

I used a binder, however the pain didn't go away until my stitches were pulled. I was allergic to them. I developed some redness and two raised areas. I had them removed 11 days postoperative. And I am now 2 weeks out.

    Meds.

When I was in the hospital, the day after surgery I took a swallow test to make sure I had no leaks in my intestine and that everything could flow through. When it showed I was fine, I took all my pills with little sips of Water, one at a time. The nurses bring them to you and you just have to go slow. I didn't start any Vitamins until I was cleared to go home but it was difficult to get them in the first two weeks after surgery along with my pills, but it got easier and easier as time went by and your pouch adjusted and healed. I now take 3 Multivitamins, 1 pro biotic, thyroid med, diabetic med, anxiety med, allergy pill and a gall bladder pill, each day with no problem. My surgery was on June 30, 2014 and I am feeling great and have had no problems. I am off all diabetic meds, and gall bladder as of this week. Good luck to you - I know you can do it! Clarissa

    Advice Please

My first week is soft foods & my doc said it will be hard to get everything down the first few weeks. My psych eval doc also said I really won't need to eat for a year cuz I have so much stored. Haha! You will. Stick with it!

    Owww

1st week is the worst...It does get better...hang in there, relax, walk once an hour (its painful, but makes the pain go away faster), put the heating pad on..its hardest the first few days. I sucked on hard candy for the throat...took gas X, pain meds, walked, and applied heat to the stomach and sholder...I slept in the recliner for 1 week. Focusing on a good show took my mind off of the pain for a bit. You will make it :-)

    Pain question

In my experience, it takes three or four days for all of the anesthia to "wear off". You're body is finally coming fully aware---and it hurts. After all, you just abused it and it is now telling you just that. It's "cranky". From here on out everyday should get a wee bit better. If not-----do NOT hesitate to call your bariatric team. They know you better than anyone on here. Feel better and be kind to your body----cranky or not.

    Incisions Pulling Apart?

You know, I really did well after the surgery. I had to sleep in the recliner a couple of nights because it was a little difficult to get up and down to go to the potty. I took the pain med (liquid loritab) pretty much the whole first day I came home from the hospital, including waking up and taking a dose during the night. The second day, I used more liquid tylenol than not, buy did use the loritab at night. I have been able to get in over 60 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water from the second day. I know some have said that was difficult for them at first, but not for me. I think part of staying home is just to adust to sipping water constantly and working out when to eat and then drink. I've not been too hungry since the surgery, but have been eating my three meals. In fact, today, I was able to get all of my protein without using a Protein shake. I must admit that I was getting tired of all of the sweet Proteins, Jello, and sweet medicines. Good luck to you.
  16. Hi everyone. I was just banded on April 9. My staples were removed one week later. Most of the incisions look good, but one of them is pulling apart slightly. The opening of the incision is not very deep, but it is open. Did anyone else have this problem, and if you did, what did you do? I don't really care if the scar is a little bigger because of this, but I do worry about infection. Thanks ahead of time for any help.

    Pre-Opt Diet Question

Just started liquid 2 week pre-op myself. Today! If today is any indication of what it's going to be like, I would rather starve! I have to drink 5 HMR shakes a day - and water - that's it. They are making me gag - they are too thick and foamy. I just had fat free can of chicken broth, because I can't drink the shakes anymore. I don't know how I'm going to get through thirteen more days - seriously! I have already lost about 10lbs on my own and I would much rather continue with what I have been doing and then do clear liquids for a couple of days before surgery (11/12) but nope, not in their plan. Oh well, just bitching about it I guess. I'll have to get over it and keep my eye on the "prize" Good luck everyone
  18. All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.
  19. I had my 1st fill today, the dr. said she was going to do 1 to 1.5 ccs but ended up getting 5ccs because I needed more restriction. I thought it was Christmas, I am super happy. She also told me that there was no fill when the surgery was done, no wonder I was still so hungry. I had the band on 9/4, 1st appt was 2 weeks later (but no fill, just follow up) and had already lost 14 pounds, as of today I gained back 5 but I am in no way sad or depressed about it. I now have 5 ccs so I am sure there is alot of restriction and can't wait for the pounds to shed!

    Hate eating

At this stage you should be 5 to 6 weeks out and on a pureed diet/soft foods. You should be measuring your food and be consuming 3 - 4 ounce increments in each sitting. I had surgery 4 months ago and I can only eat 2 ounces in each sitting, but I eat 4 - 5 times a day and smaller portions. I was sick and regurgitating all the time, because I was getting to full at 3 - 4 ounces of food. And what also helps me is that I eat with a baby spoon and fork so I know I'm not consuming to much at a time. It's just a lifestyle change you will get use to it, and just try to eat slow and maybe start at 2 ounces, your body will let you know when you can consume more or need to back off. It gets better:)

    Foods!

fat free/low fat rigatta cheese with a little sauce and fat free mozerella melted in was divine when i had my band and went through this. I still have a week before these foods but its not so bad because I think I really didnt eat much with the band so my body was more used to it!
  22. Since getting sleeved 2 weeks ago I've had TERRIble bad breath. What's causing this???
  23. So this was humiliating, I know I am overweight but I have always been looking out for my mom who had always been overweight and older of course. Back track one year and she had her gastric sleeve surgery, I went with her to Mexicali and she had her sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. I went with her but at the time was not convinced this was something I needed to do. Ha! As she lost weight, got more active and looked and felt much better I started debating more and more about it. Even my husband was on board before I was, a little stubborn I am , I know. A month and a half ago I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexicali too. I had already been there once and knew this was the place I was to have my surgery done too. I am only a month and half out of surgery and have already lost 34.5 lbs. I still have a lot to go but feel great and really feel I will get to my goal of losing 140 lbs. So this weekend I am with my mom and we had to either climb 3 floors up or take the elevator. Feeling energized and motivated by my weightloss I am all for the stairs. Well, I guess I need to try them again in a month or two. Let me just say that I do walk 2-3 times a week and it is not the same to walk around the track and to climb stairs. By the 2nd flight I am out of breath and feeling dizzy, my mom??? doing great, ready to continue. I could not take the elevator at this point, a pride thing, so I sucked it up and kept climbing LOL I can't believe what my pride made me do! I was lucky I did not faint, I felt that bad. Felt really prod of her, she has lost over 100 lbs and deserves all she has accomplished but still felt pretty bad. if I look at the bright side I did make it which I am sure 34 lbs ago would not have been possible. Still have a long way to go and catching up to my mom will help me keep on track!

    Pizza...

I just made my own last week for my husband.. since we had a fresh basil plant. Mmm I used the fresh mozz. too and a little sauce. Really good and thin/crisp. I used a pillsbury pizza dough from the dairy aisle and it was okay. But I'll bet a homemade one is even better. Gonna check it out, thanks!
