  1. @@tfarr - I never got anywhere with them, just phone calls from them asking if I wanted to try a new flavor about every 6-8 days for about 6 weeks. I finally told them just remove me off your list. they wouldn't even tell me if I qualified. Too much BS.

    Am I eating too much?

I followed up with my NUT and gave her the example of what I am eating she said any Calcium (yogurt, 1-2oz soft cheese, milk ect) does not count as a meal and I can add Protein powder to it for my daily goal but I should have 3 servings of calcium a day and as for my meals - it is normal that I can "hold" 4-5oz right now but she wants me to aim for 1-3oz instead bc my pouch is still healing. I have stopped eating as I was before & started doing only 1-3oz 1x a day and just protein shakes the rest of the time. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

    Gas smells horrible

I have horrible smelling and tasting burps. I told my bariatric clinic and they didn't seem worried. Told me to try GasX but that's not getting rid of them. Have had them for 2 weeks now (I am 1 month out) and am trying probiotics now. So far I still have them...I'm not sure how long it takes for probiotics to work, have been taking them for 4 days. I am fed up so I feel your pain! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

How was your 5:2 day today?

(HUGS) Denise. Sorry you are feeling blue. I know I said this before, but I wouldn't date while feeling depressed. I think it sends the wrong energy and you risk attracting the wrong people. I guess I have a belief system about energy or personae that we project and what that brings into our lives. When I was anxious and had inner turmoil, I was not a good relationship candidate. Ok, I am biased...I am still hurt and disappointed on some level that a year ago I fell for a guy who was essentially using dating as part of his therapy. Seriously ,I felt used and manipulated. I guess it's a good thing Scott was too messed up in the head (not saying you are, but he is nuts) to have sex so at least THAT dimension wasn't on the table. I still feel the sting when I realize that I was part of the fake life facade he was building. The way he showed me off to select people...the way he intentionally made sure his freakng THERAPIST saw us together. I guess I carry baggage, I probably used dating as some sort of self validation too, but I will never do it again now that I have been on the other side of it. It made me feel bad, it made me frightened to realize how"all in" I felt for a guy who has serious emotional problems. Ok, that rant has nothing to do with you -but it shook me up. One of the cool things about Michael is he hasn't/doesn't do the whole online profile thing. It's true we met online, but not from a dating website. There is something about online dating that makes people behave differently over time. He has a good galpal who is a heavy POF dater - and he has watched her do this for like 7-8 years and it mirrors my experiences and my impressions of about 80percent of the men I met on POF. She is very frustrated and depressed over her love life too. I cant describe it well, but it has been refreshing to get to know someone who isn't caught up in that hamster wheel - at the same time as my being fed up with it. Downside is I am becoming very enamored with him, and yet his vices make him questionable long term partner material. For now, I am content and happy and just need to watch my emotional attachment. I do like it alot that I am no longer "dating" but rather seem to have acquired a fun, caring, tall, athletic, good looking, articulate and social, great conversationalist and affectionate....dare I say "boyfriend"? Pinch me, this must be a dream. Sent from my KFJWI using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op Shopping

I'm going to check out this New whey Protein. I emailed my NUT today about Isopure & new whey liquid Proteins and she said the don't recommend Isopure bc it's a lot of calories. She didn't say anything about new whey so I guess that's ok. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Yeah BC/BS fed is what I have... and they made me do 90 day supervised with NUT... along with other specialists so it took me since Sept... my date for destiny is May 18... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using the BariatricPal App
  7. @@Miss Mac and @@silverthreads Thank you so much! I was very pleased to see that FED BCBS required 3 months of supervised plan. That's great. I was hoping I would be able to do my surgery in July if things went right. I have been morbidly obese nearly my entire life. I actually have gained 15 pounds after being with a trainer for 1 1/2 years (which isn't cheap). I was surprised when I told my trainer of my plan yesterday that he was positive and supportive. I go to law school August - May of the year, so need it in the summer and really don't want to wait until next summer. I really appreciate all of your comments.
  8. So, I recently did an online seminar for Vanderbilt University Medical Center Bariatric Surgery. I 4/16/16 for the first appointment. They said it should take about 4-5 hours, and you meet doctors, nutritionist, Gastro nurse, and insurance "specialist". My concern for me - I think BCBS Fed requires 6 months supervised diet/WL program. I do not have a PCP - I'm 28 and never really been to the dr all that often. I did about 6 months of phentermine years ago and for the last 1 1/2 years, I've had a personal trainer 2-3 times per week. What's going to happen? I have seen a dr in my new town a couple times for low blood sugar, but nothing really major. I'm about 365 BMI 51. Any thoughts? IS there a way to get around the 6 month supervised thing?
  9. Hi there, I feel like I'm unattached and not in tune with my stomach. I don't know what hungry feels like and I don't know what comfortable or full feel like. What do they feel like for you? I am on full liquids until Monday. I get all of my Protein in, but probably not enough Clear Liquids. Sometimes I drink my shakes over an almost 2-hr period of time. Sometimes I feel a twisting feeling in my stomach, but it is not usually when I am drinking. I get the hiccups, but not always when drinking. I even wake up with them, so I can't take that as a "stop eating" sign. If I only ate until comfortable, I probably wouldn't eat much. I am very compliant and am doing what I think I'm supposed to be doing, but I am confused. My stomach feels like it's going to growl sometimes, but it turns into nothing..or maybe a burp. My chest hurts when I lie down still. I take levsin but am not sure if it is helping. Oh, and randomly, a Vitamin won't go all the way down. I have to cough it up and try again. These aren't even the big Calcium caplets, but the small Bs. That's all I can think of. Looking for how things feel for you. Would love to get to know some of you. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Clean eating

I would add that you should also pay attention to your meat selections. The nutritional makeup of grass fed beef is significantly better than most of the beef that is available in the grocery store. We eat such a small amount and the Protein and other nutrients that it provides us are so vital - it is so important to get the most nutritional value out of every bite we are eating. It is also lower in calories. Free range chicken is also much better for you. It takes some time, but is worth learning about. Here is a link to a good article that explains it well: http://www.americangrassfedbeef.com/grass-fed-natural-beef.asp Carol

    Vitamins during Post Op

I think you are missing bComplex. You need all the Bs... not just B 12.
  12. SarahSleeve you should have a chat with your husband that you really don't want him telling his mom bc you know it will spread around. Tell him in a non m-argumentative way. Some people don't even realize the way the come off. A girl I know just had the sleeve and her mother told the aunts. The aunt makes a comment "I thought she would have lost more weight by now" she had already lost 35 pounds 4 weeks out. It's like seriously. Who needs that. Now she regrets telling them but you can't take back once you've told. So I'm just like you only telling those who I need to help me with my little ones while I'm recovering. If someone needs to know I'm Recovering I think I'm going to say the hiatal hernia repair. Then once I loose the weight I'll just be saying how I've been busting my hump in the gym, eating smaller portions cutting out carbs and increasing my Protein intake. all of which will be true. Don't stress and don't let anyone else get in your head. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I'm so glad this thread makes you feel better bc it has done the same for me!! And OMG I can't believe you had even a sip of a drink 2 weeks out thank god your ok tho! Don't do that again! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Let me preface this by saying 1. Yes I do measure everything - EVERY THING. 2. I am only 1wk post op 3. My Dr. Saw me on day 5 and moved me up to pureed food bc I am handling my liquids so well. Now that is out of the way - I am not feeling "fullness" or I don't think I am...I am supposed to eat 1.5oz pureed Protein and then till I'm comfortable ... I am able to eat 5oz pureed without any I'll effects....6 usually makes me feels a little tightness behind my belly button which may just be gas pains but I always stop at 4/5 oz. I'm worried because I know "numbness" can cause you not to feel full and I am worried about expanding my pouch. I am able to drink & eat with no nausea ...I get my protein in no problem. Typical day for me - 9am ---- 8oz hot tea +1 TBSP applesauce (for my potassium) 10am ----8oz fat free milk + Protein powder 11am-----8oz Water 12am-----8oz water 12:30-----4-5 oz tuna/egg/light Mayo pureed 1:30----8oz water 2:30---- 8oz water 3:30---- 8oz fat free milk 4:30-----5oz triple zero Greek yogurt with protein powder blended 5:30-----8oz water 6:00-----4/oz blended egg/tuna/light Mayo 7:00 ----- 8oz water 8:00 ----- 8oz water 8:30 (sugar free popsicle) sometimes if I feel the need to snack and I can't shake it. Avg calorie intake is 720-860, protein is 92-113 carbs are 45-60 and sugar is 15-25 per day? I feel like I am eating so much??? Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App
  15. I am 4 weeks out and I feel the same but I mostly have no desire to eat bc I can't over eat so I feel like I might as well eat to fuel myself

5 days post op - hormones?

I miss eating like i used to so much that I literally watch food videos all the time just to enjoy other people eating. I know it wasn't good for me and it made me sick but I miss it too. I'm currently angry at my husband for no real reason this morning and trying to keep it under control...and it is probably just bc of my internal feelings towards everything else. 18. Yes the liquid stage may be difficult to attend functions. However I know last year 2 different cousins had no solid food at Easter dinner bc they were doing that Isagenix stuff. They just had their shakes. So I could just stick to "its my cleanse day" no solids for me as they did. Slim shady awesome post thank you for your feedback. It's in fact the truth that our lifestyle changes this surgery is the tool to get us there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I am preop, but I hope my future answer is nothing. I have worked SO hard for 6 months (non my own) deciding if I wanted this surgery and doing research...before I ever set foot in an orientation. Scientific journals abt bougie size, results complications and regain....vlogs and blogs and forums seeing the range of woe is me to I feel f*cking fantastic!, printing out nutrition info from many diff weight loss centers to see the pattterns, Dr. Weiner entire vlog series and on and on. I also worked with my pcp to get to the bottom medically of all things in this body...really wanting to get how this body ticks. When I got to meetings with the team, I got fast tracked because I proved how mentally and lifestyle changed I already was. I have a binder with pages called dealing with constipation", "best products worth buying", "hair loss", "marriage" and so on. One big thing I keep preaching to other pre op folks about is get a therapist. You will read again and again. That successful sleevers changed their relationship with food. This takes work with a professional to identify what your unique issues are. They don't go away. And many regained show in their posts that 6mo to 18 months, when you can eat Cup to cup and half of food, all those habits come back. They work around their sleeve to still emo ti on ally eat, stress eat, feed their sugar addiction, etc. I have also had other surgeries so already have first hand info abt recovery that I will be able to separate out from sleeve. I didn't have hunger for three days after each of my surgeries (not wl surgery) Your body shuts that **** down to heal and you just focus on not dehydrating. Like childbirth, I know there is only so much you can fully prepare from info and anecdotes, but, I truly believe I am as prepared as I can possibly be and that makes all the professionals around me reinforcing how successful I really am gonna be long term based on their years of experience. The other thing is everyone is different, what is the end if the world for one person. Might be happening to someone else and they're fine. Some have complications some don't Nausea and vomitting...you never get the whole story on forums...which is why often you'll see replies that are lists of questions..did their surg not give them anti nausea meds? Is it remperature? Is it still not the right size sip or bite? We dont know. My NUT swears that the 'I can't get Water in'is BS. She told me to drink 1 to 2 oz every 15 min. That's my job the first two weeks. It's my life saving medicine. Just do it. So that is one I'll have to see on the other side. But going in. I have both expectations to help me cope...if I get it all in and it's work, my NUT prepped me for that. If no matter how hard I try I can maybe get half? Well ....many posters have prepped me to normalize that and just keep trying. I am not looking forward to and most worried abt the flooding of estrogen from my fat cells on mood and my cycle. Good luck in your pre op journey. Get out there and explore it all! There are even vegan sleevers out there. You can learn a lot about veggies from them! Birth control pills

I just found out today; BC can increase your chance of blood clots. BC increases blood thickness. That is why we are asked to go off it. I was told if I can't then I would have to do blood thinner shots before and after. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Family functions post op

As a person from an Italian family, I do not agree with any of the other people so far. I only agree with you -- liquid diet only and tell everyone you are on a full liquid diet. Your best bet is to eat NOTHING AT ALL bc those Italian food pushers are very persuasive....they will be telling you that you can have anything "soft"....cannoli filling, cheesecake, and other kinds of yummies. I was a victim of a similar situation after I had my lapband surgery and succumbed to eating something that I shouldn't have and spent 45 minutes vomiting my guts up. Then everyone speculated that I had an eating disorder :-) Yeah, 110 lbs overweight and I don't eat---THAT'S A GOOD ONE! Point is, better safe than sorry. FYI, I, too, am not telling most. Very judgmental family and friends. Have only told husband and one friend. I live in NYC in the winter and am in NJ (Long Branch) in the summer. I have my last appt with my surgeon tomorrow and then submission to my insurance so hoping to have a date in the next few weeks. Good luck!
  24. It's an hour-long IV treatment. And yes, looking back I can see lots of symptoms that I disregarded bc I had no idea I had a problem.
  25. You do them every week? They didn't want to do any more blood tests when I started treatments bc my levels were so low. Before my 2nd treatment today they are doing lab work that I believe included b12
