  1. I am currently in the postop purée phase, and my doc said WENDYS chili is ok. So tonight was a busy night and I bought a small chili and it puréed really nice and tasted great. I could only eat a little less than a quarter cup but it was a welcome change from tuna, eggs and yogurt. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    NUT said no Greek yogurt?!?

My NUT told me to eat Greek Yogurt and to substitute it for other things like mayonnaise. She also wants me to drink low fat milk instead of almond or soy milk. Unless your NUT is going to come to your house to be kitchen monitor, I would just go with what dairy I can keep down, and then just tell her what she wants to hear. In the meantime, I would seek a 2nd opinion from a different NUT.

    NUT said no Greek yogurt?!?

Um..hello NUT? Has she ever made yogurt from scratch? It's MILK along with 1 tsp of yogurt cultures! What the heck? Actually there is a lot of research for the use of yogurt and other fermented foods in helping to repopulate the gut with friendly bacteria. When our stomachs got cut away, we lost a lot of the friendly flora in our gut. Considering 85%+ of our immune system is supposed to be in our gut, yogurt is the best thing we could do. Since ancient times, people have eaten fermented foods to aid in digestion, hence pickles, kimchee, etc. ( I sound like the History Channel I know, I just heard Morgan Freeman's voice reading you that line). Anyhow, back to the topic, i feel confident in saying that I personally would question that piece of advice and ask that it be accompanied by logic. Now if you're eating it with a lot of sugar or artificial sweetner I could understand that but as plain low fat? I don't get it.
  5. Ok. I have two separate isues.... The first being my issues with yogurt....all yogurt. I cannot get it down! It just did there making me sooooo uncomfortable. Anyone else have issues with yogurt? I have the perfect restriction....and love my band...i just wish I could have yogury for breakfast or a snack if needed.... Secondly I have been getting kidney stones like crazy! Had my third one in two months this weekend.....saw a uroligist and he said that people who lose weight can get them more often....also high protein diets can contribute to them too....the thing that stumped the dr wad that I drink a ton of water (more than 70 oz a day) and hVe no pop at all! Anyone else struggle with this? Love my band! Down 70 lbs since may
  6. Just curious to see if anyone has tried this frozen Greek Yogurt and whether or is ok for sleevers?

    protein powder

Your weight loss is on target. No you do not need to eat whey based protein powders. The numbers for the one you like sound okay. The extreme fatigue may in part be due to not meeting your protein requirements. I used FAGE 0% greek yogurt to my protein shakes for an added protein boost. A half a cup will give you 65cal 5carbs 13gms protein and 5sugar. I would add it to my morning protein shake since I worked out first thing. It was a terrific protein boost and fueled my day. You do need to watch your carbs and sugar throughout the rest of the day, but this helped get me started and kept me going without fatigue. It also made it easier to meet my protein goals by the end of the day so I had more time to focus on getting in my water.

What are you eating post op?

I am 5.5 weeks post op (every day matters!). I am back to work and can eat a little bit of anything although raw veggies like baby carrots is not good. I am still relying on a protein drink of some sort to get in easy protein but yogurt, eggs, and chicken are my mains. For breakfast I had 1 egg and half a piece of toast. Lunch and snack will be yogurt. I have had no slime incidents, but, came close with the carrots!!

What are you eating post op?

For the first week post, i was eating clear liquids; drinking rather. I was allowed to progress to semisolid foods beginning the 2nd week post op. At that time my eating consisted of refrained beans, low fat string cheese, yogurt, egg whites, sugar free pudding, 1% cottage cheese and various protein fortified desserts. I have been cleared to progress past semisolid foods at my discretion and will try fish today for dinner. Mahi mahi is one of my favorites!

    Morning tightness

It depends for me. Some mornings I can have breakfast after coffee and sometimes I cant but I can at least get in a greek yogurt or oatmeal. I have to eat something in the morning because no shake is going to keep me until lunch time.
  11. My surgery was Aug 27th. I was 350 day of surgery and now I'm at a standstill at 265. Before I could only eat 6oz. The size of a yogurt cup. Recently I increased going to the gym and am now Gibson.g myself so hungry. Today I had soup and then lunch was 3 inches of a turkey hoagie. All low fat. But not even an hour later my stomach was growling so bad and I was hungry again so I ate the other 3" of the hoagie. I'm not supposed to track calories but I am supposed to track portions. Am I eating to much??? Is there anyone else hungry like me? And how about going to the gym, is anyone really hungry afterwards?

    3 months out

You could try Beans. They will add carbs, but they are a good source of Protein. Lentils, black beans and split peas have the highest protein. You can blend them in a Soup or eat them whole. I sometimes have black beans with a sunny side up egg and a slice of avocado. Lentils I like in a soup with onions and mushrooms. Split peas I make a chunky soup and garnish with pepitas and a scoop of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Good thing about beans is they won't make you constipated Be careful of bananas - they are high in sugar. I think Apples & bananas have the highest amount of sugar, but I'd have to google to confirm. I also added raw spinach to my smoothies early on. Since they were pulverized they weren't hard to digest.
  13. I plan on having a shake on the 20 minute commute every day. Water in between clients. hard boiled eggs, egg salad, chili, yogurt, meatballs, tuna salad, chicken salad, crab dip...all great options. any other ideas? i'm SURE i'm over looking all sorts of options. i'm on softs now and doing great but trying hard to incorporate all the 'requirements' of Protein, carbs, fats, water, that my nut outlined. i only have a couple days left so no time to buy anything on internet for now, but that's an option later on. i just want to get back into a solid groove and get my eating in! thanks

    Ugh, still feel hungry!

Premier Protien shakes are also very good. 30g of protien low carbs only 160 calories and the chocolate is just like chocolate milk 2%. I was lucky with my liquids starting day 4 I was allowed anything that could fit through a straw so I thinned yogurt out with milk and ate that. It was filling. if you are looking for protien the greek plain yogurt tastes a lot like sour cream maybe you could try that in your soups instead. I use it on taco recipes instead of sour cream it honestly tastes great and punches up the protien.
  15. I was not able to really eat anything (except yogurt and over easy eggs) for almost 8 weeks- it's different for everyone, but just because you are cleared for pureed/soft foods doesn't mean they will go down easy. If it doesn't go well the first time, try again the next week. I literally woke up at 8 weeks able to eat pretty much anything and MUCH more of it- I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing
  16. Think about you too! I had to keep a timer at the table at first and time two-five minutes in between bites and 60 second chewing. It was annoying but worth it. Chew chew chew and do not reach for a drink. Also use a baby spoon/fork - it definitely helped me. If you still have problems then go back to yogurt and foods you can tolerate for a week and try again, as others have said already.
  17. We fly out tomorrow at 6! So many emotions but one us hunger. Day 3 of yogurt and water and I could hurt someone over a hamburger. Heck even a pc of fruit right about now!!
  18. When i saw the nutrtionist we talked about foods i liked, eating habits and focused on what to eat post op. I have been weighing in with my regular doctor not the nutrtionist though. There is not really a set plan that she has for me. she just told me greek yogurt or eggs for bfest Protein and veggies or salad for lunch and the same for dinner. I have been following that plan, she said she was proud that i had lost 2 lbs, but i feel like it should be more.
  19. According to my doctor's office, mush means blended up or pureed before it goes into your mouth. That way you can't accidentally swallow something too big. So yogurt, applesauce, thin oatmeal, are good choices. What I did was to put whatever I made for my family for dinner into a blender with some liquid (chicken broth, mushroom soup- depending on what I was blending up). The beginning of the mushy stage I made it the consistency of applesauce. During the second week, I made it a bit thicker. It's normal not to have any restriction at this point. (or to have very little.) You won't start to get restriction until you start to get fills.

Thanks Jen that helps. I actually have been doing the yogurt, applesauce, etc I just been wanting to do other stuff. But I guess I must stick to the rules.

    Anybody eat Fruit?

I was allowed no-sugar added peaches and pears, and banana when I started soft foods. I still try to have at least one serving of those a day in addition to the fruit in my yogurt. My NUT encourages vegetables and fruit.

  23. Well, this morning was my one week (well day 8) checkup with my surgeon. I am. Down 21 pounds in exactly 22 days. 10 pounds pre-op and 11 pounds since surgery (4/29/13). I was also cleared for purée, and that was the very first thing I did when I walked in the door. I tried a recipe I've been stewing around in my head dreaming of purée day! So here it is! What you'll need: Trader Joe's Italian flavored meatballs (2) 1/4 cup marinara sauce 1 chopped chive stock 1/2 tsp garlic A little bit (maybe 1 or 2 tablespoons Water or beef broth) food processor, I have the magic bullet. Mix these altogether, makes about 2-3 meal sized servings. Then, for a side: Trader joes frozen mashed potatoes (they are frozen in tiny pieces, makes it easy to make small dollop sized portions. 1/4 tsp butter The total nutritional info for 2-3 servings is below in my screenshot from myfitnesspal app. Serve one serving and save the rest!!! It was satisfying and tasty and so nice to have something other than yogurt or pudding. I'm a happy camper!!!

5 weeks post op. Diarrhea since surgery. HELP!

I am on some meds but I was on them before. I've been doing probiotics and fiber since I got home and I don't have a gall bladder anymore. I wish I knew what was going on! Ug! Oh and Greek yogurt goes straight through me!
