Individual powdered shake recommendations?
Lisa XO replied to Sigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unjury sells sample packs. Their selection varies with time but they usually have some good ones. In case you are wondering, I have tried the Moonbeam Mist and it is okay, which is high praise from someone who hates protein drinks. 😎 https://unjury.com/protein/protein-powder.html -
I’m going in June 5th! Trying different protein drinks and weighing my food to prepare. What are you doing to prepare?

Vegan pre-op LRD

I used tofu as my protein. -
There are these little protein packs called P3 at the grocery stores that have some cubed lean meat and cheese plus some nuts like cashews or peanuts. Some of the nuts are covered in chocolate for a little sweet. Each one has 11g of protein. My hubby is really picky, but he loves Quest protein chips. Each little bag has 20g of protein! He says the nacho cheese ones taste better than Doritos 😊 Also love Good Culture cottage cheese cups with fruit, Oikos triple zero yogurt and hard boiled eggs, egg bites etc.

I had my surgery in November and my hair loss is really starting. I’ve been taking a hair skin and nails vitamin in addition to my regular ones but I just started using the Nioxin set. I figured it can’t hurt and it’s supposed to be pretty helpful and they have color safe options. It’s $55 for the set at Ulta/Amazon but my hairdresser sold it to me what she buys it for ~$25.

I keep my pantry and fridge full of grab and go options! Any low sugar Greek yogurt (I like siggis, two good, oikos triple zero), two good smoothies, bel gioso individual cheeses, cottage cheese cups, individual nut packs, whisps, chomps, hilo chips, egg bites, protein one bars. I always keep a pack of protein shakes in my trunk for emergencies!

I'm looking for easy protein snacks to buy or make, like greek yogurts, cheese sticks, turkey jerky... extra points if it's grab-and-go style!

Individual powdered shake recommendations?
catwoman7 replied to Sigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes - individual packets are perfect for traveling. I used to get a box or two of individual packets from Syntrax, but last time I got this at Costco. They're fine - although any fruit-flavored protein powders (including the Syntrax ones) I mix with an individual packet of Crystal Light lemonade, too. I think they taste better that way (but that may just be my personal preference) https://www.amazon.com/Protein2o-Protein-Isolate-Orange-Mango/dp/B09RY2Y261/ref=asc_df_B09RY2Y261/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=632238326555&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5540704642575492079&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1028057&hvtargid=pla-1893285882852&psc=1 -
Individual powdered shake recommendations?
Sigh posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I am looking for some assistance. I will be traveling through Europe for the month of June- and want to try to find a protein shake powder that comes in indiv. Packets. Have you found any you really like? I usually use pure protein or premier shakes to get my protein as I haven’t moved to soft food yet, but an thinking it may be good to make sure i have something I can eat if finding options proves tough. I will be four months out when we leave. Trying to keep packing light. Thanks in advance for any recommendations or other travel tips! -
They have quite a few healthier options. I alternate between here and Chick-fil-A when I’m in need of something quick. Another tip for young parents ls that chick fila you can get a kids meal too, but with grilled nuggets and fresh fruit. Also for a really special treat you can substitute frozen yogurt in place of the toy but only if your headed straight home to put in freezer cause you probably won’t be able to eat it after the other food. many people love their diet lemonade as well.

Collagen for added protein
Arabesque replied to Jmfpeterson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Collagen isn’t considered a complete protein as it doesn’t contain all the necessary amino acids. Check with your dietician to be sure. They may consider it a bonus protein but not part of your goal. (I do this with my fluids - what I drink when I take my meds, the broth in chunky soups, etc. aren’t counted to my goal just bonus.) Better to add unflavoured protein powder to soups, milk, shakes, yoghurt, etc. if you want to increase your protein intake. -
Ive had this happen twice in life— after having a baby and second time after loosing a lot of weight on low carb diets— the hair does grow back and it doesnt last forever- take extra good care of your hair in the meantime, and maybe try a thickening shampoo. Other than that, up your protein and take biotin.

Collagen for added protein
Sigh replied to Jmfpeterson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctors advised against counting as part of protein count. -
Has anyone added collagen to their clear liquid diet (add to broth) post op and had success with the added protein?
-
Ooo good to know. I wrote those down and I'll go check them out at the store next time I go. I've always thought I was weird my body had been give me more. My doctors have been persistent though just because tou can do a yogurt cup doesn't mean you should stick to 2 tbsp. I try to but dang it's Hard sometimes. So I think I might try slow and steady and increase protein intakes and if I'm not having a problem I should be ok. 3 days away from pureed phase. Woot.

It's one of my favorite soups there. I lived off it for lunches in the winter months. High in protein and super tasty!
-
I had actually never had it but tried it today and it’s quite tasty and only 200 calories for the cup with 16 grams of protein. I got the kids meal so I could get yogurt with it instead of the usual options.

Definitely increasing the water, we need 64oz at the bare minimum. Also make sure to hit your protein goal.

November 2022 surgery support!
NP_WIP replied to feisty one's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hope everyone is doing well! I finished my 1 month training program, start a 2 month one on Monday. My weight loss has been slow, I was going to say non existent but then realized I still lost almost 10 lbs this month. I knew starting weights was going to change the way I weight myself since muscle uses water to heal, but there were some weeks were I was loosing a pound. Once I upped the water, which I hit now 78-84 oz easily and my protein is on point, I started to loose again. But can't complain, really haven't had any stalls and if this can count as one, I'm grateful for it. Exercise made me hungry, like crazy hungry. There was a day where I was snacking on cookies, quest chips etc and realized I needed to stop before it became an issue, so I'm doing 3 meals and a protein shake split into 2 snacks. I'm also thinking of doing a few days of shakes only, if I see my weight not moving much this month. I want to be in onederland by 6 months. -

I use Oikos tripe zero yogurt they have 15g per small container, they also have Oikos Pro (more sugar) with 20g and Ratio yogurts have 25g of protein. If you like chocolate milk, Fairlife Core Elite protein shake taste like it (or what I recall choco milk tasted when I was little, do not care for chocolate much as an adult) and its 42g of protein. I use those if I'm low on protein but use a 14oz bottle in 3 servings since I stay at 60g now that I'm 4 months. I did not have any back pain but I still have discomfort and numbness on the left side where the stomach went out, is not by the incision but near the belly button. The RN said it was normal since nerves are cut and can be 6+ months for it to heal. Regarding fullness cues, at the beg is hard because your stomach is healing and even just eating something new or a new texture will have some sort of reaction which we confuse with fullness or damage. I will usually get hiccups at the beg and sometimes I do now too, but its usually more about me not chewing properly or eating too fast. My guidelines say to eat slow and take 30 min, so I will eat, take a break and continue if I want more within the timeline, otherwise save it for later.

I use the Protein Smart shakes as creamer in my coffee. Three cups of coffee and the shake is down without any bad taste.
