  1. So here I am 7 weeks post op, Im loosing steady, excerising regulary, working, have a new baby at home, no pain, havent thrown up even once, feeling good. But, I have absoultly no appitite at all. If I dont set my phone to remind me to eat and snack I never get hungry, I do get dizzy and can feel my blood sugar drop, but even then I have no desire to ea I drink and force myself to eat 3 times a day plus 3 snacks but have a tough time chocking it down. Is this common and if so when does it end. I see my doctor on the 12th of nov next. I guess this really aint a problem since I spent the prior 47 years being hungry.
  2. Hi there, just after some help! Im on day 5 post Sleeve and had the worst 3 days vomiting blood. Only today have i been able to keep anything down. Ive managed approx 1&1/2 litres max. What would you say? Need advice.

Great comments above I will ad She is upset, but why, because she is concerned? If you tell her, she might tell the rest of your family. Is is a lot to deal with yourself, if you are only 21. I have told, perhaps too many - but it is easier for me to manage. I was surprised, that people were supportive. You could also make up a bulletproof story. That you were thinking about it, but decided to go on weight watchers or something. Or one of your friends had the operation, and you needed to know, what it was about. You can not tell her who it is . it is a secret. But what about the scarring? And can you avoid her for the first period, so she doesn't se you drink protein-drinks :-) You must write your own manuscript for this altered story. So yo9u can answer everything, when you start to loose weight. For me it was easier just to tell - but if I knew people would not support me, I would rather tell white lie. I do not want to deal with all the negative stuff, from people who doesnt have the problem. By the way - the only reason, that I have a photo on here, is that I am from Denmark, and no one knows about the sleeve operation. So very few danes, will ever visit this site.. I would never use my pic in my own country
  4. I was banded on Nov 12th and am scheduled for my first fill on the 2nd of January. I had been thinking that I would tell my doctor that I didn't want the fill, because I really haven't been hungry and have not had any problems sticking to the diet. I've been loosing fairly well, so I figured I wouldn't mess with success. That was before Xmas dinner. Whoops! I had about 1900 calories yesterday - with probably 1300 coming between 7:30 and 8:30 pm. Wow, I had prime rib, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and salad. Not as much as other people, mind you, but it still blew my 900 to 1000-calorie daily average right out the window. As a one-time slip, I am not too worried; but, since I didn't feel any restriction at all during the whole episode of piggery, I started worrying for the future. So, I think I am going to get that fill on January 2. Even if my Xmas dinner was a isolated incident, it will probably be good to know that I have some sort of internal "limit". Until now, I figured I did and just hadn't ever tested it. Now that my devious mind knows I don't, I am sure it will be whispering in my ear "just eat a few more bites." Better safe than sorry, I guess.

    Not successful in weight loss

Bella, I have thought of weighing myself only once a month, but if I were to weigh-in only once a month, and as Doddie said, it was a gain of a pound, it would plunge me into a couple of miserable days. Sad but true. And as I am tracking only once a week, I am seeing a pattern and getting used to it and not getting myself quite so upset when I gain after what I consider to have been a really good week. I'm really seeing a difference in my upper body definition now due to the weight training and my legs are getting thinner. My weight is really concentrated in my belly. However, last week I was trying on some clothes in my closet and I was shocked at how my leather coat was hanging off of me. I just did not feel that much smaller. So, it made me feel a whole lot better that something is going on inside that I can't necessarily see on the scale. Michee, that sounds just like me. I don't know how accurate my BMI indicator on my scale is, but sometimes when the weight stays the same, but BMI does go down. So I cheer myself up with all the great muscles I'm building! Girls, you know what they say, slow and steady wins the race! So we will get there eventually and perhaps will be rewarded with less skin hang, and it staying off easier! And Doddie, I see your numbers go down slowly but surely too. I for one think there has to be some benefit to this! Mary p.s. One good thing that I thought of last night was, no one will be gossiping that I had WLS! It would have come off a heck of a lot quicker!
  6. Aetna required me to be on the medically supervised diet for 3 months and I had to lose 10 lbs. When I started the diet, my BMI was 40.7. I asked the nurses in the office what happens if my BMI went below 40 since that is the threshold. They said as long as my BMI was 35+, not to worry. Well, I lost 14 lbs and Aetna said I no longer qualified since I didn't have any co-morbidities. When I talked to the nurse at Aetna, I told her I was having this surgery so I didn't develop high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, heart disease, etc. She told me they were only following the guidelines set for WLS. My doctor's office appealed the surgical denial stating I had followed their rules by loosing weight on the mandatory diet. They reversed their decision and I am now scheduled for surgery on 1/27.

    Did anyone keep a book?

I started an excel workbook. Tab 1: 1) track weight loss per month versus my forecasted goal 2) track weight loss per week versus my forecasted goal 3) track BMI and current BMI ratings 4) track chest, arm and waist measurements per month versus my forecated goals 5) I chart via a contol charts to see if I'm loosing to much or gaining weight, so I can change what I eat to prevent any additional shifts. I'm a 6-sigma Black Belt geek. Tab 2: 1) track my clothing size per month versus my forecasted goals Whatever method you use, make sure you like tracking via that method or you might stop tracking.

    Tummy

Depending on your starting weight, age, and over all skin elasticity you may find yourself needing plastic surgery to remove all the excess skin someday. I just had over 12 pounds of skin removed from my tummy this past spring. I immediately dropped two pant sizes.
  10. I have a lot of loose skin already! The best thing that you can do is to work out, and to keep up with the fluids to push the fluids along! Be sure to talk to your surgeon about your fears too!
  11. Your friends situation is what I'm afraid of. I've gained about 60 pounds since having kids. My skin wasn't really loose considering but I got a ton of stretch marks from pregnancy. Luckily I haven't gotten anymore from this weight gain. So I'm worried about if everything else will bounce back. Getting extra plastic surgery for those would take a while to save up for. I hope I end up like you!
  12. I've been very busy this last few weeks, and haven't been able to visit here, and now it's taking me hours to catch back up with you all! My daughter and son-in-law just gave birth to my first grandson, Dylan Riley on Tuesday November 30th. He was 7 pounds, 20 inches, and beautiful. :Bunny His skin is gorgeous, warm peaches and cream. From the moment he was born he's been calm. As soon as his head was born he opened his eyes and started looking around. He's been alert and observant ever since. He's only cried when he's hungry. If we can call the sweet little mew's he makes a cry. We've been busy painting and carpeting and preparing for the baby at the new house they bought, trying to get it all done before he got here... we were finishing up while they were in the hospital, but we got it done! Now we're going to follow Penni's tradition and have a tree trimming shower My SOL bless his hard working heart, fell off a roof a month ago while working, and crushed both his heels. He'll be off work for a couple of months, and has lots of pain, but he's being SUCH a trooper. He wouldn't leave my daughter's side, slept in a hard old chair for two nights... even though his feet were killing him and he really needed to be in a bed with them propped up. He's realizing now what a blessing that fall is. He gets to be with his wife and new son 24/7 for a while. Before the fall, he worked all day, then worked on their house or a side job til bedtime trying to get ready for his new baby. Now they can relax and enjoy the baby and each other... Unless I steal him... with the SOL gimped out, and the Dtr too sore to run, they couldn't catch me... unless the SOL happens to be in his wheelchair.... Then it will be "grandma got run over by a wheelchair, running home from our house christmas eve" :bandit

    BCBS of Tennessee PPO

Thanks for your responses and I'm so glad to hearth at people have been satisfied with b BCBSTN, because I've heard otherwise. I'm not in TN, I work in DC, but my company is a TN based one, so it's been difficult because there not much in network choices here. Luckily, the hospital that is in network is good and a center of excellence. My requirements are 10% weight loss from high lest weight, BMI 40, Nut appointment, Psyh eval (must include a eating disorder inventory and MMPI personality inventory), 5 years documented weight loss. I'm 13 pounds away from my 10% and it's just frustrating because its been really hard to loose it. It's good to see others with this insurance because its taken me a while to find some ppl with it, so thanks for replying.
  14. Have no idea. Dr. told me the diet is to shrink my liver, but didn't say that I had to loose weight or demonstrate committment. I know one other person who just had surgery with same Dr. and her diet was same as mine, but we also had same BMI - so it could be with higher BMI the diet becomes more restrictive. Today has been a better day so far. It helped that I was able to sleep in today so I wasn't hungry this morning. It also helped to be able to blend the shake with ice and a little fruit or 2T of almond butter. Got on the scale this morning and already lost 13lbs. I'm sure it's mostly Water weight though. Anyway, I'm a little more hopefull and less irritated today.

    frustrating

I know this is a common topic, but I have stop losing weight. I had my surgery Dec 1st, and I was doing well with the weight loss. I lost close to 66 pounds. Then about a month ago I stopped loosing weight. I have been staying within a 3 pound range. It's frustrating and kind of heart breaking. I was steadily losing weight, then boom nothing. I feel like all the hard work i have been doing is for nothing. I am trying to stay positive. I know stalls happen. I just didn't know they would last this long.
  16. My name is Candice and I live in west Texas. I've been BIG all my life. I had surgery March of last year and I've lost around 100 lbs and then just stopped. I have another 100 lbs I want to loose and skin that needs to be taken off.. I have recently become lost and unbearably depressed. I know I should be happy, I should be working as hard as I can to get out of this stall, but instead I wallow... I cry.. I've gotten so bad that I now know it's true, you can be so depressed that it actually hurts. I live in an area that doesn't have therapists or places for help with things like this. I don't have friends, they've all turned their backs on me... I'm lost and don't know what to do.

    help...non healing port incision

Ask your doctor before doing it, but you can buy "Pure Vitamin E" cream from anywhere really (any store that sells cosmetics.. like walgreens, walmart, etc).. whenever I have a wound, that stuff is like miracle for getting your skin to heal. But make sure your doctor says it's ok to put it in there!

    help...non healing port incision

Mine got infected about..well close to the month after surgery. And I had a feeling it would get infected from the moment I got out of surgery. Just that "ouch that doesn't look good" He opened mine up to look it it and said it wasn't deep just a skin infection. Then gave me meds and in about 2 weeks I was fine. Although that area seems to get dried and I have to use cream. I had a back operation when I was 14 and I had one then that didnt heal. I had to have months of visiting nurses to come and "pack me in" with stuff. Now that was a bitch.

  20. This drove me CRAZY. I started at 292 and was in a 26/28 but they must have been pretty snug. After I lost about 60 pounds I was in a pair of jeans that were 26, but they got really loose, and I didn't even realize it. I actually had a few friends tell me to get some new clothes. Even though I had lost 70 pounds when I finally went shopping last month, I was still in a 18/20 on the bottom. What I realized though, is that I could wear a regular XL top (started at a 26/28). It took me a few trips to the store to realize what size I really wore. I think in our head we may still think we're bigger. You may want to try some new types of clothes. I know how unbelievably frustrating it is. It took me 70 pounds for everyone to really notice my weight loss, but now i can just lose a few pounds and people notice. You are almost to that point. It will happen soon, just be patient!
  21. Yep- just like Star Jones- she didnt say she had the surgery for a while- but thats what I think too-= that everyone is upset about the sagging skin- but what about the fat rolls that were hanging off of you before- were they better looking than what you are now- I don't know- but love your posts!
  22. At 3 weeks I was allowed fresh fruit with no skin so mainly bananas, strawberry’s, blackberries and raspberries. No melons or citrus. And he said no salad for 3-6 months, because it will fill you up but just go thru you to quick. I am counting down the days until I can have a salad.

    Struggling

I am unable to comment on the binge eating, others can help you there. Prior to my surgery, I did stay home. I was so embarrassed to go out because of my size and how it disgusted me. I had made myself disabled, it was so hard to do anything and doing the smallest home chores would leave me panting. I didn't want to be in the spotlight and have people talking about me being fat, so I remained at home. I was happier that way or so I thought. Now I know I was depressed. I have always been thrifty and seek out clothes on Ebay. I will go into a store [ or order online and return the item ] try on their range and then stalk the same clothes on Ebay. Now that I am loosing weight I am selling. I dont buy much because I will hopefully need a size smaller very soon. If you have to buy some more clothes - tell yourself they will be the last fat suits ever. Keep a set to remind yourself in your near future. Try them on occasionally and laugh and cry at how far you have come since you bought them. As River Moon said, Hang in there, not long now.

    2 questions: Laughing and Steri-strips

I haven't noticed pain when laughing. But early this morning I woke up and was laying on my stomach, then raised up my right side a bit(where the port is) and coughed. That made my scar hurt more than it has since the first week. And it continued to hurt for a while, esp when I was getting out of bed a few hours later. It's back to normal now, thank goodness. I still have a bit of the synthetic scab on some of the scars and my surgeon removed the steristrips from my port scar last Friday. Those steristrips are tenancious little buggers! The skin under them is now pretty red and itchy. The itchiest though is right around the margins of where the strips were. But nothing like it was about 5 days after surgery. Oi! I read this hint about removing left-over adhesive...use a pencil eraser, very gently over the adhesive. Works great!
