    Arm flab

I'm almost 73, so now I have grown to live with my body. I'm married for 48 years, so the only one I have to impress is me. Too bad it took so long to figure this out. BTW I had skin removal after the band and almost died. I threw 3 blood clots. Now I am what I am.
  2. I waited until I was 19 months post to have anything done. I still have weight to lose and I'm not completely happy with the results, I definitely needed the excess skin removed and it's helped me be able to move more. I know I'll never be 100% happy as body dysmorphia is a real thing. I'm just happy I'm not where I was 2.5 yrs ago. If you're interested start looking at realself and asking around. Hugs

lol.. thanks, but I don't have any. If you click on that photo it will show the un-cropped image which has the granddaughter in question standing with me when she was 6- 7. So I have aged some. The reason I chose that photo is because that is how I saw myself in my head before my weight gain started. I was always the tall skinny girl. I could eat anything and never worried about my weight. Fast forward a few years and my immune system started silently attacking my thyroid and all hell broke loose. I gained 100lbs from the 145-150 I probably weighed in that photo. The metabolic dysfunction that took over ruined my health. So that photo was my inspiration post-op. It was from the last time I remembered feeling truly healthy and great. I should update it.

Sarah Singh and BadWolfGirl, your tummy’s might surprise you, as mine has with rejecting all fats. A few years ago I did an intensive bariatric weightloss program through NYU and learned that my body was insulin resistant. I did the weightloss program because I had done a Whole Foods diet for six months and even though I felt fantastic and my skin was glowing, hair was shiny and beautiful and allergies completely cleared up, I DEVELOPED HIGH CHOLESTEROL and only lost 6 pounds in six months, despite also doing 1 hour of intensive cardiovascular exercise five days per week. I was overweight but at every physical my pcp said my numbers were healthier than healthy (her words). The bariatric doctor put me on a low carb diet and I lost 50 pounds in five months and my cholesterol dropped to normal. I put the weight back on in the last two years because I stopped eating low carb and menopause and I stopped working so no more daily commuting on the NYC subway which is walking blocks and climbing stairs daily. At any rate, not sure what I’ll do if my tummy doesn’t want any fat so hoping it will get better for me. Today my husband felt so bad that I haven’t been able to eat anything but snow crab that he came home from work (on the crowded subway) and drove me to Stop & Shop in rush hour traffic to buy me snow crab. And yay!! I was able to eat it!! And I didn’t overeat, even though I felt like I was starving.
  6. Had a great day seeing my surgeon and checking in for my 3 months post op RNY. My blood results were great all my vitamin levels are good just my healthy cholesterol a little low so he said to start eating a little more food more fish and olive oil etc. He said I've done amazingly to get from 322lbs(146kg) to 186lbs(84.4kg) in just 5 & 1/2 months. I've shed 90% of my EBW; I'm about like 3lbs from "healthy bmi" Surgeon said now to stop worrying about the numbers as much & to just concentrate on more variety in my diet and thinking long term. if I stay at this weight it's perfectly fine if I lose a few more lbs that's great but to stop stressing so much about the lbs as I've done so well. He said I'm in like the top 5% of all his patients results to lose 90% EBW it was great to see his receptionists were shocked as was the surgeon when they saw me. It felt good to get such great praise 😀 So that's my new philosophy to try more variety in my diet; I'll still check my weight each day but I won't stress so much about it I've dropped 136lbs and dropped like 18 BMI points and multiple dress sizes all in just 5.5 months. his other main point was to start building some kind of muscle tone coz I am looking kinda skin and bones at the moment Lol. first world problems 😀 I feel amazing like so much more energy everyday. I love seeing old friends for the first time in months and their reactions are great! Now hopefully when I'm ready I'll be able to meet a nice young lady and start a beautiful family; that is my long term goal Thanks to everyone on here for all your support!!

I loved sonic ice and I would put a little lime salt in it or I would spray a little liquid juice like mio on itinerary was a life saver the first week. For the injections hold the fatty area inject (do not remove needle yet) hold skin for about 2 second then Let the skin go and remove needle at the same time and that will help stop bruising. Also inject fast not slow kind of like a little stab. Can u have strained soups on ur liquid diet? Egg drop soup is yummy and wonton soup to switch things up. Keep your head up you are doing great and these tough stages will be over very soon!!!
  8. Thanks for the response Aj. I kinda figured this is how it would be. Im the same way. If i want i can load up on junk, but obviously want the good proteins. And theyre much more filling. Thank you about the weight lose. its been a ride for sure. As far as skin, well here is a picture. im good in my arms and everywhere but im lower stomach. its bad there. But hopefully i can save for surgery.
  9. Jake - Just went thru the same thing 3 weeks ago and my answer is NO. I have tried but fall short almost every day, Plus I am cheating, For example this morning after Crossfit i took two pieces of toast. Butter and Homemade peanut butter (Honey Roasted) - That is about 500 calories but it took me nearly two hours at my desk to get it down. No its 11 and lunch is coming and not hugry at all. My Nutra girl have me hitting a few hershey kisses thru the day to get calories and energy. The meal powders add some calories but nothing for energy. It is hard to get the calories in without the carbs and sugar. Not sure how much you can eat but i can not eat that much at all. Unless its junk food for calories it is very hard to do. I stopped and stalled at 850 Calories so as long as i hit that I do not loose any more. By the way you Rocked this weight lose, we both had surgerys within 10 days - I actually am finding this to be harder then losing weight- Quick question you skin getting tighter from Working out? Mine is not or very little

I wish I could tell you it will all be okay, but chances are it will not. That being said, I would still choose this 100 out of 100 times. I’m saving for face plastics and will follow through on that at least. At the end of the day I can wear longer shorts and tops that cover the shar-pei skin on my butt, thighs, and abs (not sure how my arms escaped looking drapey, but they look okay for my age) , but my face is pretty much out there for anyone to see and it’s looking older by the month. I don’t want anything radical like a nose job, or cheek implants.... I just wanna get the loose skin tidied up and to have a jawline again.
  11. Has anyone either feel or have felt that you have to re find yourself again after loosing so much weight? Re learn how to love yourself? Or any troubles mentally?

    🎈 Pity Party🎈

@Sheribear68 - I worry about this even more than loose stomach skin. At least I can hide that. I carry so much weight in my face/neck that I am pretty sure I will be joining the turkey neck club soon enough.
  13. I agree with you here. The artificial sweeteners also caused me to have problems appreciating natural sweetness as well. The best side effect from dropping them from my diet was my face clearing up. I have no idea why this happened but it does. Every time I went cold turkey on diet drinks, my skin started getting better. Maybe a very slight allergic reaction, I dont know.

Some exercises will work to strengthen muscles and fill in the loose area but if its truly just a lot of skin surgery is the best bet.
  15. Day 15 post op My second official long warm shower with compression garments off! Only I ran out of hot water. Maybe I should qualify that as a very long, long, long, long shower! Haha. It felt so good. A definite team effort. While Sophie takes her shower - the boys zealously wash and then, dry garments in the closet with a blow dryer for a fast turn around. Pretty exciting stuff for Bobby, the wire fox terrier. It did not hurt to re-armor this time as last. The breasts felt tight and the tummy is flattening. Again, I share these as clinical not personal. I see the surgeon tomorrow for my 16th day check up and I think the tape comes off over the stitches with new garment instructions? I feel so much better after the constipation subsided around day 12. Hopefully, that system is regaining normalcy. This is certainly not a surgical procedure for the faint hearted. I am still very pleased with the decision to have had removed the 5 pounds of excess stretched skin. Still a long road ahead... physically and emotionally. Last night was a great comic relief! And, battling that big bad hair dryer was simply exhausting notes the pouch.

I'm 65 and have world-class granny flaps. Seriously, I could kill someone if I whacked him upside the head with them. I never go sleeveless. If you are young enough your skin could tone up, but like kristieshannon said, sometimes surgery is the only solution.
  17. My sense of smell is so out of whack. My mom was eating Cheerios the other day and I thought it smelled like dog food. I'm 60 pounds down from my highest (40 since surgery) and I'm already seeing loose skin on my arms and thighs. I'm dreading what they'll look like after more weight loss. Now, I'm grateful that I'm finally under 300 for the first time in years. It's just shocking that I'm already seeing that. I don't feel much different in my stomach or face despite my body measurements telling me otherwise; my clothes mostly fit the same.

You can lift weights to tone your arm muscles, and after you hit goal you may see some slight forming up over time. However, surgery is the only way to get rid of the extra skin post massive weight loss.

Okay so I’ll join in. I never, ever realized that losing this much weight would make me look like half my face melted into my neck. The one thing I had going for me pre WLS, was my tight skin around my jawline and i actually enjoyed having a round face. Now I see this very long face with hanging jowels that slides into a turkey neck. Not a good look and it makes me look waaaaaasy older than my husband who is 7 yrs older than me.

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Wow #1: your skin on your tummy is FLAWLESS. It looks like a Barbie Doll tummy (in a GOOD WAY). Wow #2: the filler results is quite dramatic!! Even your lips look plumped up, and the right side of your mouth raised to be even with the left side. Was that on purpose, or a happy accident? Either way, WOW. *considers filler*
  21. What I wish I knew before I had surgery five years ago. When vets told me you will be able to eat more as you progress was so true. Working on the mental battles of weight loss was not easy. Overcoming my behaviors was one of the best gifts out of surgery. They are not 100% gone. I manage them much better. I'm older 45 day of surgery - 51 now. All the stress over vanity was a bit ridiculous for me. Honestly, I look better not obese. My loose skin is livable and I have gained muscle weight lifting. It has filled out the skin a bit. I looked into plastics twice. I backed out both times. I am happy with my body and rock my old fart self. Transitioning to maintenance was not what I had expected.
  22. Find a bra with side support to hold in the loose side boob. Stretch pants with a snug high waist will help hold in the loose skin muffin top. I saved one pair of jean shirts from prior to surgery for the days I look it my hanging belly and dream of a tummy tuck, to remind myself of how far I’ve come.

    OOTD

Love it Angie! Okay, so here is my OOTD- workout style for Tuesday. Love this top that I got off of ETSY, and today I will be hating on that magic circle. Also, I’m thinking my 51yo old lady arms are looking fairly toned in spite of the extra skin hanging around.

I agree! You look very young, I dont thin k you will have a problem. Give your skin some time to adjust.
  25. Just to be clear - collagen is a junk protein for anyone, not just bariatric patients. As long as one eats sufficiently our bodies makes it's own collagen. And lots of it! All of the marketing hype and celebrity endorsements for the wonders of ingesting collagen to smooth skin and repair bones are lies passed under the loophole of supplements not being reviewed by the FDA. However, collagen itself has been studied and review and was deemed to be an insignificant protein (i.e. incomplete). If anyone really wants to use collagen, I'll save you $20. Buy a box of jell-o. Or eat pork rinds. It's literally the same darn thing.
