Any April Surgery Dates?
longhaul68 replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date was bumped from 04/17 to 04/26. I was pretty upset for about 15 minutes but the surgeon had to reschedule his day. I had just started the liquids that morning and when I got off the phone with the coordinator I made myself eggs with avocado and hot sauce. I like having the extra sets to prep myself mentally and gather my proteins and liquids. So, onward and upward for the 26th! -
I am 6 weeks out from RouxNY . I lost 30 lbs in 4 weeks. The last 2 weeks 3 lbs. Is this a stall as well. Also really struggling with getting 64ounces of fluid snd 90 grams of protein I . Will this hurt my progress?

4 Days Post Op Gastric Sleeve!
jthebutterfly posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the 3rd of April i was scheduled for my gastric sleeve. That went great. i woke up with tons of pain all in my shoulder and belly. I had a extremely hard time drinking water but day 4 and it’s been much easier for me to get down the clear liquid broth that my mum made for me. It was really hard for me the first couple of days as i felt extremely nauseous and suffer with ‘Emetophobia’ so as you can imagine this has been a very hard experience none the less. I was in hospital for 2 days and was sipping on my fluids enough to be sent home which was great as the hospital was very great, welcoming and attentive i just became really home sick the third morning i was there so glad they discharged me that day. I am currently taking laxative for number 2, paracetamol for baseline pain and acid reflux medication i forgot the name but i’ll make another post maybe later on ever medication i’m taking. My 5 incisions are feeling a little sore but nothing i can’t handle but they are getting particularly itchy. I have been taking powerade zero sugar, gatorade zero sugar and Sustagen for protein in the morning my stomach has been able to tolerate that well so i’ve been enjoying that. for lunch i had a beef that was boiled in fresh coriander and yummy potatoes. (the broth was strained) hahaha. right now just focusing to up my fluid intake as much as possible as i don’t want to be dehydrated and follow my surgeons instructions with the broth and protein milk which has been going good. 4th day has been amazing for me. I was super emotional the first 3 days but today has been great for me. I’ve lost 5KG which is great pre op i lost 3KG and post op i’ve lost 2KG. Any tips or tricks or suggestions from fellow sleevers please comment below i’d really appreciate the advice. Any post op sleevers the same time as me please leave a comment i’d love to see how you guys are coping. Stay safe xx -
Hair Shedding & Hair Loss

I’m going through the same thing. I am taking an extra hair skin and nails supplement and making sure I hit my protein goals. I’ve also started using Nioxin - a hair regrowth shampoo, conditioner, scalp treatment set. A family member of mine used it when they had hair loss from chemo. It’s hard to say whether or not it works because I wouldn’t know otherwise but I’m hoping it’s doing something! -
Hair Shedding & Hair Loss
Spinoza replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had 3 cycles of really noticeable hair loss since my sleeve 16+ months ago. It's finally (I hope!) growing back. I suspect it won't be as thick as it once was but I am totally OK with that. By the time it's falling out the new hair is already growing. I have never seen any decent evidence that any supplement makes any difference. In the same way the people talk about 'breaking' a stall by twiddling with protein and fluids and exercise and goodness knows that else, I think that people might attribute the regrowth to whatever supplement they were taking at the time whereas really it was just gonna grow back anyway. Bariatric Friendly Starbucks Coffees
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coffee and tea is allowed on my plan. I drink coffee once in a blue moon tho. Soy, almond and coconut milk are all allowed on my plan and I have unsweetened vanilla almond milk and even before surgery. It tastes great in things, but non fat has more protein. It is hard to get in the calories. But super hard to get in the fluids and protein for me too. -
Bariatric Friendly Starbucks Coffees
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a huge coffee drinker and they told me I can drink coffee and tea. I asked at my dietician appointment today. I know im not supposed to have sugary drinks and what not. That's why I'm asking what everyone's go to bariatric friendly Starbucks drinks are 🤣 to give me ideas if I want to get a Starbucks drink. I see a lot of people getting a shot of expresso. 2 packets of zero calorie sweetener, in a large cup and they fill the rest with their protein shakes. But due to the fact I can't stomach protein shakes, I wanted something that I don't have to add it in. I saw another Starbucks recipe for bariatric patients for the pink drink. -

I am a little over 3 months post-op. I have lost close to 60 pounds now. I would like to lose another 20 pounds, and am on track to do that. I sometimes worry that I will lose too much but I know I'm just being ridiculous. 😂 I feel good even though I am still having issues meeting protein and fluid goals. I think I am going to go back to having protein soups for lunch to help with that. I've been trying to up my calories but having a hard time going much over 600-700 a day. I have tried all kinds of meat and veggies at this point and have only had issues with some chicken thighs one time, when I ate too much, too fast and got the foamies. All of my rings, shoes, and clothes are too big. It is expensive to lose weight. Today, I had someone not recognize me, which was wild. -
Bariatric Friendly Starbucks Coffees
Smanky replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I imagine Starbucks iced coffees etc are absolute calorie bombs due to the fat and sugar. Honestly, I'd be taking this time post-op to wean yourself off drinking your calories, and especially in the early months drinks really need to have a protein focus. I was never given a coffee restriction (I was offered coffee the first night in hospital), so once my stomach had some time to heal, my daily treat was a small soy latte, no sugar. Soy has a good amount of protein in it, and a small soy latte is an acceptable 75 calories. -

First, you should ask your surgeon about his/her guidance on caffeine after surgery. Most surgeons don't want you to consume caffeine for a certain period. (Mine recommended a year after gastric bypass, which is when I resumed drinking coffee.) I think the only acceptable option would be black coffee, with skim milk and artificial sweetener if you like. (That's my go-to drink every morning, made at home.). You really shouldn't do anything with sugar or fat after surgery, including whole milk, syrups, whipped cream, processed sugar, etc. Any of those would be empty calories when you should be prioritizing protein. When your surgeon says you can have caffeine, you could do an iced coffee with skim milk, but I'm not sure there is any way to make a Frappucino bariatric-friendly. -

I'm one year and 2 months out from MGB. I had my surgery in Egypt (self paid) end of January 2022. Starting weight 149 kg, current weight 78.8 kg (this morning). This forum has been a huge help for me since I did the surgery without any proper research which is not something that I'd usually do but I was really frustrated and fed up with trying to lose weight and not getting any lasting results. I'm not currently following any specific diet and I eat whatever I want (in very small quantities) - please don't tell my doctor haha. I eat my protein first, followed by vegetables and salad and then carbs if I'm still not full. I take 1/2 teaspoon of sugar with my morning coffee. Of course, I had to follow the program that was given to me after the surgery. I had a long stall for the past 3 months or so but luckily I'm losing again since I started fasting (the fasting month started 14 days ago). My current target is 70 kg (I'm 170 cm tall) and I can't wait to lose the last 9 kgs. I got a mountain bike when I was 120 kg and have been riding it around my house which helped with the weight loss. The longest distance for me was 8 km. It has been raining almost every night here and I've not been able to use the bike for almost 3 months or so.Hopefully the weather will improve soon. I'm working in a remote town and there is a small gym here. I'm to check it out next month. Here is a photo of me around 2013 that I found while organizing my laptop folders vs me this morning. Needless to say, life is getting better and better overall and I can't wait to try all the things that I've not been able to do because of my weight. -
February 2023 surgery dates!
Erin18 replied to Erin18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been wanting to write down what I eat, but it's hard because sometimes I can't eat it all. I know what you mean about measuring and not measuring tho. I usually weigh my food. Sometimes it's too much, sometimes it's not enough. But I don't go back for more and I don't want to get more. Ooo I used to like cream if wheat. I had it the second time after surgery the other day, the first bite was good, then after that it tasted like how swamp water smells lol. I hate protein shakes and I can't stand yogurts anymore which sucks because I like yogurt. Broccoli tonight tasted weird. I don't like vitamin waters anymore, I don't like snapple or gatorade anymore(eventho I got grape the other day). It's funny you say you don't like coffee anymore and I'm craving coffee haha. Starbucks coffee. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I do like it once in awhile. I see the dietician tomorrow and I'm asking if it's okay to have coffee and tea. I get to move onto the soft solid diet tomorrow and I hope she can give me some meal ideas and what ounces I should be having. I'm pretty happy with my weight loss so far and ever since surgery I've been pretty happy. I've lost 27 pounds so far. -

April 6th will be exactly 3 months post op (sleeved 01/06/23). I'm down 60.6 lbs. Overall, I feel great. No food restrictions and can tolerate everything I eat. 1000 calories a day with a minimum of 80 grams of protein. -
I freeze fairlife protein drinks mixed with 2 tbsp of sugar free pudding. Then mix in lily’s chocolate chips. Turns out delicious!

I just started adding a lower calorie protein to my coffee throughout the day, just to hit a higher amount... I'm hoping that works, next step would be a week of liquids. -
BMR and my future self ???
RickM replied to LandofHopeandDreams's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First, your BMR is a bit of a guesstimate, but 2100 isn't unreasonable for a guy. Some calculators/formulas are way off because they simplify things by using body weight, while it is lean or muscle mass that is the important factor (all that extra fat we carry around does little to BMR, though whatever extra musculature we may have to carry around that extra fat does help. There are some tests that they can do (VOx, etc.) that can give a closer reading to your personal BMR, and many body composition scales give an OK estimate based upon their reading of your lean mass. The most important thing is at what caloric level is your weight stable - that gives the best clue as to where you stand metabolically. My BMR was probably around 2100 also, though my stability point by experience and tracking intake was in the 2600-2800 range (consume more consistently and I would gain, consume less overall and I would lose.) BMR represents our resting metabolism, while the extra burn if from exercise and daily activities; most calculators and tables (and ourselves) tend to over estimate the burn from exercise. After surgery, and you lose what you are going to lose, you will likely have lost some muscle mass, I lost around 10 lb) as you aren't carrying that extra 100, 200 or whatever pounds around with you 24/7, so your BMR will likely decline some, but not a lot (maybe down to 2000). This is why most programs emphasize getting in adequate protein, and doing some load bearing exercise, to minimize the loss of muscle mass, to keep our BMR up. If you can maintain a diet of 1100 calories (not at all difficult for the first year or so post op) that will yield a caloric deficit of around 1000 calories to your BMR (and likely more considering activity burn,) which will equate to an average loss of around 10 per month (more initially, and tapering off over time) - that's about what I did at 1100 calorie average, and my final few months before goal was a consistent 10lb per month loss; after goal and into maintenance, I settled into around 2100-2200 per day to maintain a stable weight. Some people, particularly the shorter ladies, may be stable at 11-1200 per day after all is done, so they will need to go much lower to lose their excess weight - this is why we see 6-800 calories as a common intake for the loss phase, and they will often lose more slowly because they have a lower caloric deficit (figure about a pound per month per 100 calories in deficit, on average.) In short, figure on 1000 calories or so while losing, and probably around 2000 or so, give or take, to maintain, as a quick guesstimate. -
You can try adding some greek plain yogurt to the beans to thin them out or broth. Not sure about the dumping. But I was advised to stay aeay from starchy veggies in pureed food since they are high in carbs and sugar, and do not provide any protein. I mainly had crab salad, soft fish, hummus, beans, soups, chicken mousse Sent from my SM-S916U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi there! I am 4 weeks post op from my VSG. I started at 195, lost 12 lbs pre surgery, and 15.4 lbs since surgery. So down 27.4 lbs total. I am now at 167.4. I am hoping to lose 10 lbs in the month of April, to get me to 158 by end of the month. I’m am just coming out of soft foods phases, and am taking it very slow— still very focused on getting fluids in. I have been drinking two protein shakes a day with several VERY small “meals” a day- but am starting to think through how i can up my protein with real food and drop to one shake a day. No real hunger driving me, just trying to get the basics down before branching out too much on the food. -
Chewable flavors & Calcium Citrate
catwoman7 replied to greekgoddess2468's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it might be the artificial sweetener they use in that chew (?). Anyway, there are lots of options for calcium citrate. Most drug stores sell one or two brands of calcium citrate tablets (vs. several brands of calcium carbonate, which we're not supposed to take since it's not well-absorbed by us). I look for the "petite" version of calcium citrate tabs (I've gotten them at Walgreens - but other stores may have them as well) since I like them better than those big horse pills. there is also a powdered form of calcium citrate, but I don't know how easy it is to find in stores. You can order it online, though. NOW makes it - and so does Upcal D. I used to buy the latter. You can mix it into food or beverages, but Upcal D, at least, doesn't really dissolve - it just suspends in liquid, so you have to shake your beverage before every swig. I ended up just mixing it in with yogurt. -
Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I am aware of the statistics about weight loss and how difficult it can be for many people. I feel grateful that I have been able to achieve some success with diet and exercise, but I also recognize that it's not the right approach for everyone. In addition to diet and exercise, I have also incorporated some meal replacement shakes into my routine, which have been helpful for me. I understand that for some people, medications, or bariatric surgery may be a better option, and I support whatever approach someone chooses to take to improve their health and well-being. The most important thing is finding a sustainable solution that works for you.

I'm getting so frustrated, 7 months out and almost 2 months stalled
qtdoll replied to SuziDavis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's so frustrating, almost everything I was going to reccomend you mentioned you already do! The only thing I'd add is focusing on upping your protein intake maybe? -
It's unfortunately a waiting game right now. The hair loss is very hard to avoid. As long as you keep up with your vitamins & protein, it will eventually stop!

Currently dealing with a stall & stuck at 141lbs. I'm changing up my workout & going back to drinking a protein shake for dinner. That has helped me break stalls before & I'm hoping that helps again!
