Surgery Day! and beyond: Part 2
SorryNameTaken replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Girl, yay! I am so excited for you. I'm glad your pain is so well managed. I had a drain after my revision to bypass and I hated every second of it, so more power to you for dealing with four of them. Can't wait to see the end result, especially the dragon tattoo! -
My revision date is tentatively set for 12/5

I go for my revision next Tuesday. I’m also having lap band issues and excited but nervous too. Look forward to hearing how are after surgery. Best of luck to us all! -
I'm thankful that my spirit lead me to give you some words of encouragement. You do know that you've got this, if you don't know consider yourself informed. Your task now is to calm down because it's a hard task for the body to heal while under a lot of stress. We need you to heal for your son and husband, they need you around. Don't be mad at yourself or hard on yourself for making this decision to have wls. Cry, get it out and then breathe, repeat until it gets easier. My friend had revision surgery in July with complications that scared me from almost not having my surgery this upcoming January. She has recovered nicely, we've attended the Obesity Help Conference and I have met wonderful people like you. We deserve a second chance at an amazing healthy life. Bariatric Pal has been my mental and emotional support, because I'm private and less than a handful of ppl know I'm having this surgery. Emma, anything you want to talk about this is a great platform.

I am having a revision by robotic surgery on Friday. I am wondering if that one shot per day that you speak of may be blood thinners? If so, many people have to do that post op to avoid blood clots. No matter if surgery was robotic or not. This is the only kind of injection that I could think of that you have to do yourself at home.

Hi nomorefattypatty! (Love the name) Hoping u r doing well .... Im scheduled to have the sleeve on Dec 4th. I have some reservations and when I read ur post I was wondering if I could ask how soon after ur sleeve surgery did ur reflux start and if you have had any prior to surgery. I’m concerned about having to have a revision which I’m definitely not on board for. Regards, Thanks! -
I am revising from sleeve to bypass on Friday. I really never researched the ds surgery until recently. The fact that people that have had it are still able to take nsaids would be a big plus in my case. I am riddled with arthritis. However I have read that it is a much more complicated procedure. Bigger concern of vitamin/mineral deficiency as well. But the chances of not only losing the weight but also maintaining are outstanding. I kind of wish that I had researched it before now. good luck with whatever you decide!

Dr. Michel - Summerville SC
Losingit2018 replied to NewBodySameME's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am having revision surgery with Dr Michel next week. I could not agree more about everything that you have said about him. I am certain that I am in very good hands. -
Like the others have already mentioned. Warm drinks and broth. Jello and popsicles. I used to freeze my protein shakes so that I could eat them with a spoon like ice cream. Just keep reminding ding yourself that this will only last a short time. You can do this! I am on a 2 week preop diet right now for a revision from sleeve to bypass so I do feel your pain. Hang in there and good luck.

Do your liquids include protein shakes? I had my revision the same as yours on the 13th - having 2 shakes per day plus soft foods. Oatmeal for breakfast, creamed potato soup for lunch, and fat free refried beans - all 2 ounces. I am keeping full with this little bit of food.

I had a revision from Lapband to gastric bypass on Nov 11. I’m on liquids for two weeks but I’m so hungry and advice?

Lap band to gastric bypass
SorryNameTaken replied to angievasser42@gmail.com's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I just had my revision on October 24 and honestly, it was no more difficult than the band surgery. My surgery even ended up being more complicated than they thought it would be and it was still pretty easy. I was able to manage my pain with Tylenol and the pain completely resolved pretty quickly. I still have one incision that is being hateful, but that's been the worst of it for me. I work a desk job and went back 6 days after surgery, but probably could have gone back sooner. I have been having complications from anesthesia, so that's been a pain in the butt. All that said, I handle pain very, very well, so your mileage may vary. -
So I’m a month out from my revision today! Losing very slowwwwly... I’m looking for some advice, so I’m on purée foods and I got asked on a date for tomorrow! I really like this guy but he has no idea of my revision, I do want to go on this date and I asked him to send me the name of the restaurant so I could scope out the menu... besides soup there was only one other thing that I think would be ok for me to eat, it’s Tilapia in coconut sauce with white rice... I’m thinking of skipping the sauce and asking for mashed potatoes in replacement for the rice. Any thoughts? I’m nervous and kinda want to cancel... I asked to just go to the movies lol but he is not having it...

Sleeve or bypass? help or hurt GERD
GreenTealael replied to boymom860's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That's going to be super individualized and no one can predict what it will be like until after.(But I personally don't dump often because I'm careful- sidenote I was revised from VSG to RNY for GERD) Ask about the statistics on GERD remission/recurrence after VSG from your Surgeon or research it yourself But really It will all come down to what the surgeon (and you) determine is the best course of action Good Luck 💙 -
Choosing between SIPS and traditional DS
Strivingforbetter replied to onmyway11's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@onmyway11I had the exact same experience with the band. Then I was revised to the traditional DS two years ago. No regain at this point. The doctor who did my DS is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. -
DS for lower BMI revision
Strivingforbetter replied to HP62442's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
@HP62442I can't speak of the differences between the recovery of the MGD and the DS because I've only had the DS after a revision from a band. However, recovery wasn't bad at all for me. My BMI was about 39 when I received my DS. You might not be heavy enough for the DS with a BMI of 36, but your surgeon would know. Not many surgeons have been trained to do the DS, so that might be a factor for your doctor too. -
I had the band to sleeve revision this week. Once my stomach healed I never felt full / satisfied from the band. The full-o-meter never worked like it was supposed to. I am hoping for better from the sleeve - I can’t keep gaining because I am taking years off my life.
-
Your stats seem similar to mine. My band is out, gained, and now revising to sleeve in 2 weeks. How’ve you been feeling since the sleeve?

Hi. 👋 I’m 11/29 revision to sleeve.

Protein powders
nomorefattypatty replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think the bypass was easier than the sleeve. With the sleeve I didn't even want to drink and I didn't let myself get to worried about the surgery because I think that makes you think it's gonna be worse than it really is. I'm able to sip slowly and the broth and Jell-O help ! I'm so farveru happy I did the revision hopefully my acid reflux never comes back. That's the only reason I revised. Praying it helps. Sent from my SM-J337P using BariatricPal mobile app -
A revision is when the change you from one type of weight loss procedure to a Gastric Bypass. A VBG is a Vertical banded gastroplasty, that isn't very popular.
